"Very disappointed as a new rider"
"I can't say enough good things about Conte's Bike Shop in Charlotte and specifically their professional bike fitter, Andrew Lerner"
"One year I have stayed in Charlotte and Conte's Bike Shop surprised me consistently with outstanding support and service at fair prices"
"New bike assembly (a year ago, bike wasn't rideable): 1) Missing crank bolt and cap 2) Chain tension was too soft and derailleur wasn't adjusted Annual service on the bike (recent, bike wasn't rideable): 1) Tires were replaced and put on backwards 2) Derailleur cable was replaced and chain tension was too soft (derailleur wasn't adjusted) 3) Replaced brake pads have a loud rattle sound while riding and pad bolt is stripped (cant remove the pads at the moment) 4) Rear shock was very low on PSI and required adjustment for sag (+100PSI)"
"This was my first experience with with Conte Bike Shop since they took over the storefront from the old NC Velo"
Very disappointed as a new rider. Had always owned cheap bikes but decided to get my first well built one recently. Got a cannondale quick cx 4 at Conte’s. The bike is great, but the service was annoying at best, and dangerous at worst. Within days of receiving the bike, my handlebars came loose. This was after being specifically told that the bike was ready to ride ASAP and all the maintenance I really needed to do was keep the chained greased. Luckily it wasn’t anywhere dangerous, but could have caused a serious fall of I were going faster. I ended up going to a different bike shop nearby where the accident happened, they taught me how to tighten the bolts back up, and conte’s one mistake should have been over and done with. However, it was not. The other bike shop noticed many other discrepancies (which I also noticed some of but brushed off as how “nice” bikes were meant to feel) and said it would probably be back to take it back to conte’s for them to take a look. Back at contes’s I was greeted by the same person, who took a good two minutes looking at it and doing *something* to the breaks and then saying it was all good. My trust was so low at this point, and I had such a better experience at the other shop, that I decided I should get another opinion after this “safety tuneup” that should have already been done when I bought the bike. Lo and behold the bike was “really bad” as put by the mechanics at the other shop. So bad that they felt it was necessary to call conte’s and tell them that I was sold an unsafely prepared bicycle. I am extremely disappointed, and will not be returning to conte’s. Looking at other reviews, it is obvious I probably just had bad luck, but it is still bad luck enough to keep a sour taste in my mouth. I hope you make some internal improvements to make conte’s a safer and better place for cyclist beginners.
I can't say enough good things about Conte's Bike Shop in Charlotte and specifically their professional bike fitter, Andrew Lerner. I bought a Trek Domane several months earlier from a Trek store in Greenville, SC and got a 10 minute complimentary bike fit as part of the purchase. I experienced finger numbness and neck pain on relatively short rides and went to see Andrew for a professional bike fit. After a detailed interview, Andrew spent a lot of time watching me ride my bike and ultimately determined the reach was a little long. Andrew made adjustments, all the while explaining the adjustments being made and how these adjustments would shorten the reach. We ultimately changed the saddle, stem and handlebars and the bike handles perfectly now. No more numb fingers or neck pain!! Thank you Andrew and Conte's!!
One year I have stayed in Charlotte and Conte's Bike Shop surprised me consistently with outstanding support and service at fair prices. The team consists of cycling experts, always prepared to give their advice and taking every issue as personal challenge and get the issues solved. Once I got informed that a service was discounted by 40% after I have already decided to take it. The service is best in class and the communication over the app works really well and ensures transparency all the way. Thanks again to all employees for your great commitment to customer service and to all reader my full recommendation to visit the shop for great cycling equipment and even more for remarkable service to enjoy your bike independently where you bought your equipment!
New bike assembly (a year ago, bike wasn't rideable): 1) Missing crank bolt and cap 2) Chain tension was too soft and derailleur wasn't adjusted Annual service on the bike (recent, bike wasn't rideable): 1) Tires were replaced and put on backwards 2) Derailleur cable was replaced and chain tension was too soft (derailleur wasn't adjusted) 3) Replaced brake pads have a loud rattle sound while riding and pad bolt is stripped (cant remove the pads at the moment) 4) Rear shock was very low on PSI and required adjustment for sag (+100PSI). Only reason I went back for the annual service was to see if the experience was the same (and write this review).
This was my first experience with with Conte Bike Shop since they took over the storefront from the old NC Velo. I was extreme!y pleased with the help and support on a critically timed problem with my crank derailleur. Needed some maintenance on my crank derailleur before riding the Tour de Turns the very next day. James and the guys in the store went out of their way to help me while i waited to get my bike back in back on the road in great shape once again. This store location is very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. I will be bringing my bike back here for all of my maintenance and upgrades in the future.
I'm so happy with my bike fit from Andrew at Conte's in Charlotte. He's a true expert. He patiently listened to my concerns and made precise adjustments to my bike during the fitting. I was struggling with hand numbness and sore knees, and Andrew's knowledge resolved both and transformed my riding experience. I no longer need to keep my rides to 60-90 minutes because my hands are tingling. I've already recommended him to my cycling friends, and I plan to book a fitting for my mountain bike to address lower back soreness. If you want a more comfortable and efficient cycling experience, I highly recommend Andrew!
My daughter bought a new $700 Specialized bike from this shop. Apparently like all bikes, it came with a free tuneup within 1 year. Due to being out of town most of the year on travel nursing assignments, I brought the bike in for the free tuneup for her just before the 1 year expired. She was only able to ride the bike for about 30 miles since buying it. When I went to pick up the bike after the service was done, I was charged $45 for a new chain due to “wear”. Either the shop sold my daughter a new $700 bike with a defective chain or they sold us a new chain to cover the cost of the “free” tuneup.
Customer service like this is hard to find and worth the trip. Found them through Google Maps. Mike was extremely kind, polite and helpful. Even though they didn't have the part we needed, he helped us find the cheapest and fastest way to get the right one. Even though it wasn't through them. He checked over the bike we were assembling to make sure everything else was right. Then helped us check our bike rack on our hitch because it didn't feel right. We found the best solution and bought a better locking mechanism. We will definitely be bringing our bikes to them for service from now on.
I highly recommend these guys. I recently dropped off two bikes for service & purchased an e-bike for my wife while I was there. One of the bikes being serviced had an unusual brake set up that required more work than a standard brake swap. Long story short, the two techs put their heads together and came up with a solution. The communication through their text messaging system is nice and you can pay your invoice with a click of a button. All around good experience from service techs and sales. Hats off to the two techs that solved the brake issue though. Thank you.
After riding many years, I was fitted on my bike by Andrew, and it was quite simply a life changer. I'm a larger cyclist, thought being large just meant cycling created pain and you lived with it - Proven wrong after being professionally fitted to my bike. My enjoyment of cycling has increased so much! The fitting is worth every penny, and this is the place to get it done. I've also asked them for various free repair advice, as I try to repair my bike myself. They are always willing to help. They have earned my business, this is my bike shop of choice.
Thank you to Andrew Lerner and Conte's Bike Shop of Charlotte for supporting the North Carolina Interscholastic Cycling League's first ever preseason Adventure Event at the Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC. Andrew offered bike fittings for our coaches and student athletes so they can be prepared for the upcoming season. He was also able to diagnose some bike issues for our riders so they could continue riding for the day. Excellent support and we would love to work with Conte's again.
I scheduled a bike fit with Andrew and he did a GREAT job! He took some extra time to understand my goals and riding style. I am now riding more comfortably and with more power! The shop also has a large inventory and was able to get some parts that were not available at the shop I had been using (and sold-out on-line). Andrew and some of the shop guys also helped make a cassette change after the fit. Everyone was super helpful and customer focused. This will be my new LBS!
Andrew fitted me to my current gravel bike a month or so ago and it has made all the difference in the world! I am riding farther and stronger with much less fatigue. He suggested a new saddle (love, love it!) and wider shoes ( yup) and then adjusted the bike to me and my riding style. It was worth every penny. I am a 65 year old female who has been riding for years….and with this fit, I will be riding for many more! Thank you, Andrew. Highly, highly recommend.
The team at Conte's Bike Shop in Ballantyne is the ABSOLUTEBEST! I took my bike to other bike shops in the area for tuneup and other minor work and every time, they just couldn't get it right. However, at Conte's, the team got it right the first time and every time thereafter. They paid attention to every detail and provides the best advices. Plus, their customer service at the Ballantyne location in Charlotte, NC is second to none. Bobby Dean
This is a great bike shop. I have made major purchases from bike shops all over the Charlotte area and beyond. This is by far one of the best. Andrew and James are friendly, knowledgeable and most of all, they know cycling and will be able to lead you in the right direction. They will make sure you're educated and satisfied with your bike. Do not hesitate to make a major purchase here. I will do alot of business there in the future.
It is great to have Conte’s Bike shop in Charlotte. Went in for a bike fit in search for a new bike. The team was awesome. James, the manager, Andrew, sales and Chris, director of purchasing and pro fitter. These guys made this an awesome experience - setting me up with all the gear, a new bike, and answered any questions. If you are in search of anything about bikes - this the the place- 10 stars for this shop!!
Fantastic place, people and service! I am so happy that I got this place recommended for my cycling needs. I had a very specific and not common bike fitting requirement, which was handled so amazingly by the team. I just finished my 1st Ironman 70.3 and I cannot be happier with my bike fitting. Thank you Conte team for handling the service of my bike and special thank you to Andrew for bike fitting expertise!
Stopped in twice, looking at bikes and wasn't really sure on what I wanted (because I'm new to mountain biking). Talked to 2 different guys in store, James and Andrew, I think were their names and they were excellent! I didn't buy a bike from here, but the customer service and overall feel of the store was great and I would recommend anyone to check them out.
I worked with Zach purchasing a new bike he was extremely knowledgeable and patient, allowed me to take it for a test ride around the neighborhood. Explained the electronic shifting. The way they are able to pull inventory from other stores quite a bit which they did not charge for I will also certainly be using them for all our service news on our bikes
I went to a couple of places before ending up at Contes. Ordered a Cannondale Trail 8 last week and it was delivered yesterday (Wednesday), they told me it would be built by the weekend. I asked if there was anyway to have it built before EOD Thursday and they had it completed in less than 24 hours. Really appreciate these guys going above and beyond.
Just moved to the area and it is clear to see why all these ratings are five stars. These guys are the best. Busted a wheel and they got me back on the road in a day. Everyone there is happy, helpful and honest. I've worked with quite a few bike shops in my travels and this place doesn't feel like a chain store. It is a welcoming, local crew for sure.
Great bike shop. I was just passing through and needed a quick tune up, on my Trek Madone. While they aren't a Trek dealer, they nonetheless handled quickly and with quality. Was shifting smoothly once more and abke to hit the local group ride the next morning. The staff provided incredible service. Would highly recommend.
Love this bike shop! Axle is an incredible person to work with. He went ABOVE AND BEYOND!! After a terrible experience with Trek Lake Norman, I found this shop and couldn’t have been more thrilled with the personal service! Thank you so much!!! My daughter loves her new ride! Thanks again Axle!
Had a great experience so far purchasing two bikes from this Conte’s location. Had a lot of questions and the team was happy to answer all of them and steer us in the right direction. Will definitely come back for service and repair needs. Shout out to Zach and Andrew who were very helpful
I called Conte’s to see if they were able to provide the services that I needed for my 2 bikes, they told me that they were able to take care it with no problem. Brought my bikes in, they were very helpful and offered a quick turnaround. Thank you so much for your help today!
Came in with a very minor repair that I just couldn’t figure out at home. These guys offered to take a quick look at it, and although it was not quite as minor as I thought it was, they knew what they were doing and had it repaired in about 15 mins. A+ customer service!
I went to Conte for a bike fit with Andrew Lerner. He was extremely professional, knowledgeable, efficient and easy to talk to. He was very thorough and took a lot of time to ensure the fit was just right. I would highly recommend him and Conte’s bike fit services.
Love this bike shop. Always helpful, even when I’m asking them for help with something that is so simple they don’t charge for it. Knowledgeable and offer good guidance. Affordable prices. I go out of my way to visit Conte when my bike needs a trip to the doctor.
These folks helped me out with a project wherein I needed to source parts quickly and accurately. They checked their stock and dug through countless areas looking for a special part to help me with my project. These are the people you want to do business with.
Best experience I’ve had at any bike shop in the Charlotte area. James spent over an hour making sure I got the proper shoes while also teaching me a lot of things I didn’t know about cycling. I’m excited to come back and bring my friends here.
Great Customer Service and Inventory! I looked around for months to find the bike I wanted. Conte's had it! I worked with Andrew L to size and fit me. He is great at his craft and took his time with me. It's very much appreciated. Thank you!!
I was a long time customer on NC Velo and went in to get some riding gloves. I talked to the manager about options for a new stem for my bike. He set me up. He is knowledgeable, friendly and I got the sense, this is going to be a great shop!
This is by far one of the best Bike Shops in America. The staff is second to none and genuinely care about you and what you need. I am a professional triathlete and worked with a lot of bike fitters and Andrew at this store is phenomenal. I
These guys are great. Friendly, knowledgeable, and they fixed my bike while I waited! Wonderful to have a shop like this right around the corner, but I’d drive across town for a good bike shop! So glad I gave ‘em a try. Found my new shop.
Brought a used bike in for some maintenance, new pedal, and new shoes. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The store has many options at different price points for everyone’s needs whether you are a beginner or an expert.
Extremely accommodating, helpful, and understanding when taking delivery of a new mountain bike as a beginner. They even improved my bike for free due to a misunderstanding between me, the bike shop, and the manufacturer.
Had a tri bike fitting with Andrew at the Charlotte location and would highly recommend. Andrew is a very experienced triathlete, fitter and offered a wealth of information. 10/10!!
What a great find! These guys are fantastic, had an awesome experience with them today. Cannot say enough good things. Give them a shot I don't think you will be disappointed.
very happy with the customer service here, these guys are awesome helped me with my issues in under an hour. definitely my go to place if I ever have a problem with my bike
Might be one of the best LBS I've been in a while. I look fwd to doing some business with them in the future based on the interaction and knowledge that was shared.
Great repair fix on an older bike part. Good sign of bike mechanic knowledge and techniques. Cordial, helpful and welcoming for all types of cyclists.
Great service, very fast. Changed my tires to tubeless in like 20mins while I was in the shop looking around. Not very expensive either, $38/tire.
Amazing customer service. staff very knowledgeable and do quality work when it comes to bike service and repair. Highly recommend.
By far the best bike shop in the area. They took extra care to fix a parts issue. They will get all of my business from now on.
Great experience with Patrick - He made sure I left beyond satisfied! He is the real MVP …
Always great service! Pleasant staff! Dropped my bike off for service and it was ready the next day!
