"the station only has lifts to get out or a spiral staircase which apparently apparently has enough steps its the equivalent of 15 floors, i know thanks to a youtuber i watch that this is untrue, however it is ONLY stairs and lifts here, and when i went, 1 of the lifts was broken, so be warned, in busy times queues for the lifts can be a problem, a 1 way system is employed for the lifts and ticket hall but can still cause issues, use leicester sqaure 260 yards down the road if its too busy at covent garden station, however its your typical piccadilly line tube station, no real excitement, its in good proximity to covent garden and the exit comes out into the square, its also got it's original leslie green building which is lovely to see, the square it serves is lovely, and the market building is brilliant with lots of shops and cafes, there are markets here sometimes, however if you want the official covent garden market, its not here anymore(the building is, but not the market), go to nine elms instead"
"While not perfect, nor fully accessible, this station does a decent job of taking people to and from Covent Garden area"

While not perfect, nor fully accessible, this station does a decent job of taking people to and from Covent Garden area. From the Piccadilly line platforms there are 20 steps up to the bottom landing for the lifts. There are four lifts which hold around 30 people each. Travel time is about 30 seconds. Unfortunately the spiral staircase is before the lifts and too many people use them. It is over 130 steps up and only truly fit people should attempt it. Even when busy the lifts are fastest. The station is under 100 metres from the piazza. The ticket hall is step free. It has a separate way in and out. There are several ticket machines near the way in, and staff to assist. One thing to be aware of, is that on weekends, at certain times the station is exit only. Holborn and Leicester Square stations are short walks away and will provide a more comfortable experience when it's busy.
This review is only about the station. If you are thinking about changing at Leicester square using Piccadilly line to come to Covent Garden, think twice. It is not quicker because you need to walk quite a lot to change trains, also at Covent Garden station, to get out, you need to use a lift which tends to have a long queue, or required to go up over 190 steps to go up to the ground if you do not wish to queue. Many people I saw was breathless in the middle of the long steps. I just put up a brave face and just managed to go up without stopping. It was a fun experience itself going up long narrow circling steps but it is not time saving or easier than walking from Leicester square station, which only takes like 5 mins. That is the reason I normally do not bother to use this station. Much easier to walk from Charing Cross or Leicester square, and nicer to look at shops!!!
Long wait for lifts, 192 steps of stairs This just about sums up this tiny station. There is barely any space for you to squeeze into the entrance hall, the exit part is just as tiny. There are no escalators here, it's too tiny! You reach the platforms only by lifts and if you dare, the stairs. Handily located next to the touristy area and shopping and tons of food and drink places as well as theatres, you will never be bored here. Picadilly line available to take you anywhere, but if you hate crowds, do get off at Leicester Square instead and walk. It really is not that far, 5 min if you're a brisk walker.
Take the tube to Leicester Square. When this place is busy, You will wish you had. It’s ridiculously overcrowded and can barely support the flow of passengers. 3 lifts are available to you in order to leave, which end up having you crushed against a wall. The only option to get out if you can’t be bothered to wait for the lifts is a staircase of 15 floors, Which is horrendous to climb up. This station is long overdue for an extension. Perhaps they could purchase a building nearby to convert into extra lifts.
Easily accessible from the Covent Garden Market with ticket stations wrapped around the station. My primary criticism is the fact that you have to use the lift in order to access the platform but then you still have to go down a couple flights of stairs in order to reach the actual platform. This is obviously a difficult experience when you are travelling with a toddler. I know the tube lines were built a very long time ago but I find it very frustrating that the lifts don't go directly to the platform.
Great well maintained tube station. Lifts are available for those who don’t wish to take the stairs. The Covent Garden area is especially breathtaking around Christmas time. The shops are beautifully decorated and the whole area is buzzing with energy. The lights are stunning, even in the winter one would want to sit outside as it is festive and magical. The street performers were fantastic and always brought a smile on everyone’s faces. There really is something for everyone at Covent garden!
A crowded, hot and sweaty station in the West end of London. What's not to love? Beware of the facilities when exiting the station, as this station gets rather crammed in the peak hours typical of any station within zone one, however the only way of exiting the station is through the lifts; Exacerbating the aforementioned overcrowding. You can take the stairs but keep in mind it is equivalent to climbing a 15 storey building!(Not really, but still a decent climb)
Covent Garden is great for those experiencing London for the first time or someone on a city weekend. It’s crazy and crowded with tourists, yes, but there’s something fun about making it through the mob to wander all of the great shops. Both Punch & Judys and SushiSamba have great roof decks to enjoy any time of year. This New Yorker loves Shake Shack so much and cant recommend it enough. For pre-theater dinner, I love RedFarm and Balthazar.
I like this station I love lifts so this station has lift access unless you want to climb or go down the equivalent of an approximately 15 story building taking the lift is the best option. I like the set up where people exit the lifts and whilst exiting the lift the next lot of people follow in from the back ready to go. I like the tile design on the platform walls with the old ticket office window design directing to the exit.
Covent garden at Christmas is breathtaking. The shops are beautifully decorated and the whole area is buzzing with energy. The lights are stunning, even in the cold I wanted to sit outside as it is festive and magical. The street performers were fantastic and always being a smile to even the biggest scrooge. There really is something for everyone at Covent garden and when ever I visit, it is never the same as the last!
Very trendy place to meet up with friends or family. Many tourists are generally in this area because of the stores, the scenery, and the pubs. The atmosphere is very welcoming, a mixture of locals and foreigners. Many people just transit through this area as well onto various destinations. If ever you're looking to meet with friends or family from different areas of London, this could be an ideal destination.
I remember my visit here very well. On arrival to the station I noticed the only way up was the lift I'm slightly nervous of them so my mum and I decided to use the stairs to exit the station . . . 3 hours and a bit later we reached daylight. We've never been so tired before. 139+ steps. If I or my family decide to visit this location again we will be using a different station
Prob one of the better Tube stations, but why make it so difficult to pay?If I want to pay for me and my wife to travel using contactless, I have to wait 2/3 minutes per transaction, what rubbish. I could get an oyster card as long as I don't mind a £5rip offfee. If London transport want to control the way you pay, they're going to lose out on my money and I'll get fitter
Beautiful Station both inside and out. Classic Leslie Green Designed Station and nice tiles As for what is in the station, It Has Lifts taking you from the entrance to the underground, before stairs take you to the platforms and the trains Station serves an amazing area full of shops, the London Transport Museum and Covent Garden Market
Covent Garden is a beautiful place to visit, unfortunately we were just whizzing through, so didn't get much of a appreciation for it. There are lovely food courts around Covent Garden, and some lovely high end shops. The tube at Covent Garden now has a lift going down to the trains, which is much better that those thousands of stairs
Covent garden bis a Covent Garden. !! Simple as that.!! This is a lovely place to spend a day. There are a lot of shops, cafes and in house market. The market is with a lot of little market stalls. Also always something is going on such a little street shows to see. Always Covent Garden is full of life. This is a never sleep place.
Its a classically styled station and very nice to look at but the lifts are a pain and its often closed, avoid on a busy shopping day because you'll be here forever, just don't ever use the stairs because they're a challenge you don't want to undertake. I'd recommend getting to a nearby station and walking in if you're unsure.
Covent Garden is a must-see destination when you are in London. It is located in West End. There are many restaurants, shops and a theatre. This is a very atmospheric place. While walking you will see a lot of street artists, actors and live statues in the streets. Also you will find a lot of nice photo spots here …
Lovely exterior of this station. Shame about the lifts being so slow- not good in peak hour. A shame that women with their prams decide to block the lift, a few times there was plenty of room for me to get on but the women had other ideas. Sometimes have to take the 200 step stairs to get up/down when its really busy.
If you're claustrophobic then this station might not be for you. It is densely packed and frequently closed due to overcrowding. Not only that, getting in or out involves being cattle herded into an elevator so not one for those who like personal space. If you're particularly fit (or foolish) have a go on the stairs!
I always enjoy walking around Covent Garden. For me, this is the most cosmopolitan place in London. Surrounded by lovely and cozy restaurants, nice cafes and bars, and shops. I like the whole architecture around with the pretty church. When I'm in london I always make arrangements with my friends to meet first here.
Very old station that makes you feel like you have stepped into a timewarp. The 193 stair descent to the platforms is a bit of a trek. They advise you to use the lifts but there is often a queue for them. Stairs should only be used in the event of an emergency but you'll find many people use the stairs at all times.
I love this area and have traveled to this station many times. It is worth noting that this station is physically very small and as such, most customers will need to use the lifts / elevators. The only exception to this is a massive amount of steps. Covent Garden is only a very short walk from this station.
Almost like a Mecca where tourists flock to. All around the market in summer flowers are everywhere. Hanging baskets, on barrows, boxed, laying around walls. But tourists be aware they are NOT for you to pick. Head Gardener, Kenny, will be after you. The Tower of London is not far to incarcerate offerers.
Lifts to the platform. Can be a long queue to get down, may be faster to walk to Leicester Square and get on there. If you're going to Leicester Square anyway don't even bother taking the tube as it's a very short train trip and it's faster to walk.
This station can get overcrowded most of the time. The lifts are always in use and the stairs are 192 steps (about 15 flight of stairs). If you're planning to use this station, I suggest you go to Leicester Square station, which is a 10-minute walk.
Covent garden is perfect for a walk as it offers some vibrant spots , shopping venues and nice brunch places You could grab an avocado toast with some wine Or… do you prefer a nice food and much more like burger ! …
Really enjoyed this station, lots of people have complained about the stairs but i found them a very interesting experience you do need to be quite fit to attempt them but take your time and stop now and again a you will be glad of the experience.
If going to Covent Garden by Tube, my advice is get off at Leicester Square then walk the short distance from there. Covent Garden station only has lifts, so getting out can take longer than walking from Leicester Square, especially on a weekend.
This is a very old station and has a lot of stairs. If you are travelling with kids I would recommend using Leicester Square Station and walking. There is a lift but this can be so busy sometimes as people don't want to take the crowded stairs.
Sign said stairs were the same as a 13 story building. Lies! The art block at my school is only 1 story and the stairs are well longer and tiringer than the ones here, one kid went into cardiac arrest after walking up just one step …
Terribly crowded station during rush hour and before the theatre. There are no escalators so your choice is over 100 stairs or a deadly wait for the elevator. Avoid if you can. A better choice is the get off at Leicester square and walk.
Try to avoid. Too small and lifts cause bottle necks at really busy times such as just after a west end show. Be careful at these times if you have young children. My daughter had to hold my had tight as the crowss swarmed to the lifts.
A lovely little place with something for everyone. It has good restaurants, buskers and antique sellers, and nice surrounding shops. It's also very close to Strand St., Leister Square, and Trafalgar Square. Definitely worth the visit.
Do not take the spiral stairs unless you are very fit & have strong legs!! They even put out a sign advising ppl to take the lifts, unless it’s emergency. No escalator to exit the station, so join the line & wait for the lifts. …
Great station and supper architecture, location it's excellent,Covent Garden is a London Underground station in Covent Garden, West End of London. It is on the Piccadilly line between Leicester Square and Holborn stations and is in
I was genuinely terrified.. 3 lifts working, queues back on to both platforms - totally trapped - the only way out was the 15 story equivalent stair case - I really do not recommend using this station someone will die due to panic.
193 steps in fact... but there are brand new lifts now ...but you can always walk a short distance to Leicester Square...four minute walk maximum...unless window shopping slows you down...London inner city is worth walking in...
Station lovely and clean only 1 lift working we were in rush to get to theatre so decided to take stairs little did we know there were 193 steep steps to get up to exit even fit looking people walking up with us were struggling
A lot of moangie one star reviews. It is an old station DEAL WITH IT if you can't then don't it gets very busy but Leicester Square isn't that far, if you don't like busy places... Why are you in Central London for a start?
This tube station is on the Picadilly Line and serves Covent Garden. Access from the platform to the ticket hall is by lift, although there are stairs, this is a deep tube line, so this option involves lots of stairs.
Received some amazing service from a lady at the station, helped us with our tickets and different ways of purchasing them in the future. Was super friendly and made our travel home so much easier. Great service
Super busy tourist hot spot with plenty to see and do. LOTS street entertainers to pass the time watching. Also please ty of places.to shop, eat and drink. You can spend alot of time here just taking it all in.
Nice lively place. Lots and lots of food places and plenty of bars. Expensive city prices though. Beautifully lit up scenic buildings and streets. We went on a weekday and it was full of people.
Good station surrounding Covent Garden. You can either go to this station, or you can walk for another few minutes to to Leicester Square tube station, as it located on the same road/network.
I've loved this place since the 1980s when I worked nearby. Unlike other places, Covent Garden has kept its charm and is a brilliant place to shop, dine, drink and generally have a good time.
A nice little station but they do make you aware that the area is very busy during peak times. Don't take the stairs however to get outside, if you are unfit they may exhaust you.
On the Piccadilly line This station is not fully step free and has 20 steps leading from the platform to the lifts. Once in the lifts there are no more stairs to street level.
Great place in the heart of London. Small shops and large chain stores nicely placed next to each other as well as cafes for a drink or eat. Live music may be around as well.
I love walking up the stairs at Covent Garden tube station. My wife however has a different opinion to me of all the steps. Does the photo give it away …
Great place to visit. Lots of shops, restaurants, street performance. Close to Soho and Oxford Street. If you like walking it is the place to be. :) Amazing atmosphere.
Last i visited this station both lifts were out of order and I had to hike up 15 stories to get back to ground level. Should have just gotten off at Leicester Square
Good station, just the stairs are just so long and tiring to walk up, feels as if you’re walking up a mountain! Lifts are quite fast though but can be very crowded
It's a gorgeous place for visiting and spending time around, plenty of shops and of course the Museum of the Transport located steps away from the Station
Theatre Land as it is known as, nice bubbly live atmosphere. Some Super brand shops: perfumes, watches, trainers, body shop etc. There is a market area.
Interesting place for adults and kids, performers around the outside and lots of boutique shops & market stalls. Nice clean area and feels safe.
Full of buzz. Very busy. Lots going on. Live music. Watch what shoes you wear though as there are quite a few cobblestones. Well worth a visit.
Great for food, shopping - theatre. Huge choice of restaurants, bars & traditional London pubs. Great atmosphere and mostly pedestrian only.
Always vibrant, with a lot of eateries and places for drinks around. Love the small boutiques, brands or independent. Perfect for hipsters.
You must use a lift to get to trains so expect a slow process when it’s busy. Other than that you can use the long stairway.
Lovely for those who visit for the first time. Nice cafes, restaurants a unique market, and most time you find street shows.
I like the tube and the different styles at the various stations. I don't know what style Covent Garden is, but I like it.
Close to the tourist spots, so can get very busy. If you're feeling fit take stairs instead of the lift to street level.
Really convenient but be sure to take the lift as there are 193 stairs! The lifts move really quick most of the time
Fun atmosphere, great vegetarian options. Our server Robins was really helpful too. Highly recommend :)
Such a fun place lots of places to eat and shop, great markets with street performers along the way
As usual, good vibes in Coven Garden. Lots of eating out and shopping option. Good all year long.
Great place we'll looked after .It was just too busy when we went. we couldn't wait to get away.
Old style station very bz ,service for local businesses customers and travelers!2023/11/1
GREAT PLACE !! A lot of restaurants, shops, hand made items and music all Over the place.
Fully open and easily accessible. Clean station with frequent tubes.
Quaint and cultural. Ideal for shopping and dining.
Great place, so much going on.
