DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND HIRE HIM I cannot say enough good things about this firm, but I don’t want this to simply be a flowery review telling you how great they are — I need you to truly understand that you have found the right firm, STOP SEARCHING. If you were waiting on a sign from the universe, this is it. I feel guilty letting some of you know that Mr. Marcus Sixta exists since I know not everyone’s case can be accepted by him, but I feel a moral obligation to make you aware that representation like this exists —so that at least the people who are in as dire a situation as I was and who are meant to find him can find him. My divorce case was entering its 5th year, and had been successively fumbled by numerous lawyers before him. And yet even in the condition it was in, he was able to swoop in and course-correct so much of what was happening ––mistakes that were about to cost me my whole case. I cannot tell you the amount of times he and his team would spend their weekends labouring over documents, discoveries, affidavits ––whatever legal term, you name it, they were on it. I would get emails from them all weekend asking about this or that as they were actively working on the file. After a whole day or trial/mediation/arbitration – for which they are present and ready to go at 8am, and which doesn’t until almost 9pm – by early next morning their team has already drafted and sent another legal documentation to follow-up on the proceedings from the day before and already onto the next step. Mr. Sixta turns up the heat then persistently strikes while the iron is hot. He is always thinking of the next best step and always strategizing. The things he comes up with are brilliant, truly a thing to marvel at – you feel like you are watching a game of chess. They take their job not only seriously, but PERSONALLY. They have a heart after justice, and it shows ––and thank god they have the intellect to match. Ms. Daniella Marchand works alongside Mr. Sixta and under his mentorship. She is phenomenal. Daniela is methodical and detail-oriented —she does not miss a thing. More notable than this, which is hard to beat, is her heart. She is a pleasure to know and reinforces your faith in humanity. If you cannot have Mr. Sixta directly represent you, it is better to get with those who work under his general leadership at the firm & where he is in-house, rather than not at all; however, he has the final say in whether your case is taken by the firm. You would be lucky to have Mr. Sixta and Ms. Marchand working on your case.

Looking for a Family Lawyer is inherently stressful. Let me take away some of your stress by recommending in the strongest possible terms, the amazing Sheri Ferguson. Right from the start, when I was still in shock following the sudden announcement from my ex-wife, Sheri demonstrated exceptional emotional intelligence. She moved me along with compliance to the required legal responses. At her recommendation, we proactively attempted to settle by making reasonable global offers. After two (ignored) attempts, we moved to Mediation. Despite our best efforts, my divorce moved into Arbitration. At every stage, Sheri has been excellent. She has been prompt with all time-sensitive matters. Her billings were clear and very accurate...if not somewhat lower than expected in terms of her billable time. Sheri found ways to keep costs lower without cutting corners. After haggling with my ex for more than three years over a separation agreement and failing to persuade her even to attend mediation, I approached Melissa Salfi at Crossroads for help. Since I live in BC and my ex had moved with our daughter from BC to Alberta, I needed lawyers I could easily access and who could bring an action in an Alberta court if necessary. Since Crossroads has offices and great lawyers in both BC and Alberta, they were the right fit for me. Melissa Salfi helped me in Vancouver and referred me to Camille Boyer, who is based in Calgary, when I needed to start a court action in Alberta. On my first meeting with Camille on Zoom, I found her to be clear-minded, sharp and receptive. She immediately gave me my legal options, all of which I found to be sound, and I had no problem making up my mind. After only a few days, she filed a Notice to Attend Docket Court in the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta and we served it on my ex. Because of Camille's strategizing, the filing alone was enough to bring my ex back to the negotiating table and I had my previously intractable issues solved without going to court. I have nothing but praise for both lawyers I worked with at Crossroads.

My lawyer was Mat Wirove. Incredible lawyer to say the least. He listened to what I wanted and was realistic with what I would be able to get. He walked me through every step and ensured I was educated and informed the entire process. He made sure all the items I wanted were properly conveyed in the judicial world. Not only was he professional and incredible in his work, but he took the time to offer me resources in a personal manner beyond his role as my lawyer (recommendations on books to help with the personal and emotional aspect of co-parenting, being a single parent, calling after court dates to discuss the content of thr hearings and my feelings on it, etc). Even after no longer retaining his services, his assistant gave me information on court documents I lost during a move saving me from missing work to go to the courthouse and additional assistance with legal proceedings when an order needed to be amended. Overall, the best attributes of my experience with Mat Wirove was his professionalism, realistic and effective approach, his skills within his profession and genuine care for his client. I have recommended him to others.

You just happened to have stumbled upon the right lawyer for the job… now let’s just hope he accepts your case. Mr. Sixta and Ms. Marchand worked on my case, and they are both heavy hitters. It is a privilege seeing Mr. Sixta work in a hearing. He does a lot of preparation, yet intuitively navigates the line of questioning. He knows just when to go in a different direction and how to lead everyone to a central point. Most importantly he knows when to leave it *on that note* , to have his final point reverberate throughout the room and wait for it to burn into the foremost awareness of everyone present. I have witnessed him lead things to such a strong end that the lawyer on the side burst out crying outside the room when on break because she was so moved herself. She was supposed to come back in and question his witness but gave up that right as she couldn’t follow-up with anything. I don’t blame her, he is a tough act to follow. He follows low-blows from the other side with stern tact. I don’t think anything can sting worse than when someone can respectfully put you in your place. Law is an art and he is an artist.

I have no hesitation in recommending the team at Crossroads Law for any Family Law case. There is a reason why Marcus Sixta is rated as one of Calgary’s top Family Law lawyers. He certainly represented us well in our case, and that was clearly evident in court proceedings and at discovery. Marcus was my third lawyer in an extremely difficult drawn out divorce with an abusive narcissistic partner teamed with a highly unethical lawyer. Many errors had already been made that were to my detriment before Marcus and his team took my case. I believe my results would have been much better, the process shorter and less costly had Marcus been my lawyer from the beginning. He did his best in a broken system. He is very knowledgeable, personable and works extremely hard. I did find that he saw cost/benefit from a lawyer's lens rather than client's perspective (resources are not unlimited). I also believe he (like most lawyers/arbitrators) receive inadequate training and experience dealing with highly manipulative and frankly dishonest opposing teams. The tools in the legal system are limited. Marcus has stuck with my case which I believe has enhanced his professional skills. His team are very kind and empathetic.
