"Dear Mr"
No windows, bars and barbed wire. Incredibly limited and small book selection, very limited resources. Computers for public use are all clustered together in one tiny area, not separate like all other libraries. There are no work stations for those that bring their own laptops like other libraries. The patrons leave a lot to be desired - loud cell phone conversations chalked full of "colorful" language, using the shared computers in a study area to watch movies or YouTube loudly without headphones or loud inappropriate conversations with each other. Was once "entertained" by a couple making loud slurpy kissing noises as they made out in the library. Pretty good example of social disparities and inequality to visit this library and then others in close proximity. This place is just depressing.
This is supposedly a library, but when you walk in it sounds like a playground. There are kids yelling at each other playing games and running around to play. If you try to talk to Candice (who says she's the manager and overseer of 2 branches) she says they are kids and they are allowed to do what they want. If we do not teach children the rules of a library (especially in this area) how are they supposed to learn to follow rules, be respectful, or be courteous to other people. ** The male manager of this branch is amazing, but still it's hard for 1 person to control a room full of yelling kids when he's the only one who tries to enforce it. (He is the only reason I didn't give a 1 star)
This particular library is located within the facility known as Gibson Park. It is a relatively small library, though it is large in stature due to the relatively small number of people that visit. You have easy and fast access to all resources due to the small number of patrons. The staff is attentive, the computers are usually available, and the library is unusually quiet. This library is comprised of an adult and children's section. What this library may lack in actual materials, it makes up for in availability of resources. JE
What a dump! This location is in a historic Black neighborhood. It's located in a shabby, run down playground/sports arena. The staff are nice nasty and semi knowledgeable about basic technology. The security is a complete puffed up joke [ALLIED UNIVERSAL] and the kids are outright disrespectful to adults. Black folk should demand more from their government and ask for a new building, upgrades and a possible relocation of the branch to attract more patrons. I'd definitely return but with a bullet proof vest and a body camera.
Dear Mr. Derek Blassinggame As an African American 1st and foremost you and I both know that's overtown do you need a bulletproof to the library no I doubt it that is a bit far fetched now to move the library from there would be depriving underprivileged children of something that other kids have within their community. Now instead of shaming and calling a library a dump shame on you . In all of Miami how did you end up in a library overtown. Nonetheless let's up lift our children try that.
A surprisingly pleasant experience at this library! Even though it is in Overtown, I felt very safe. The staff was friendly and the security guard was always present throughout my stay and had a friendly demeanor as well. The library is small but quaint. It lays in the middle of a park which is a neat setting and there is a parking lot with free parking. The only downside was that it was a little smelly. But still very pleased with my visit and would recommend.
In general it is possible to work there. Silence is not quite normal for any of them. today there was a lady who works at the library who brought her daughter. I asked for calm, but she said that there would be no calm in the library. And the daughter continued to do it as a recreation. However, the smell of the place is not so pleasant. But it is possible to be there for a few hours.
I always have great experiences with this library. Although it's a smaller library, I normally order what I need from the main one and pick it up here. The staff is great and goes above and beyond to assist you. I hope it remains in the Overtown community.
If you are in the Overtown area, check out this library. Right outside the library is Gibson Park.
Small but close to home. Good selection of books and an adaquite amount of computers …
Small but welcoming and informative!
Great place as a library
Great staff
