I don’t usually write lengthy reviews but due to the audacity of the staff/ management I’ve gone ahead… I stayed at this hotel Wednesday-Friday for a total of four weeks (15/3, 29/3, 19/4 and 3/5) 1st stay was fine, 2nd stay I was in a disabled room (I didn’t mind the fact it was a disabled room apart from the bathroom smell) where the bathroom smelt horrendous which triggered off my asthma. I tried to ignore it but around 10pm I couldn’t take it and informed reception where a lovely girl said “I believe you” when I asked her to go in and see. She then changed my room and explained that on my 2nd night stay I would have to switch rooms due to the room I moved into was booked out. On the way back from work I explained this to the guy at reception and my new room was allocated. 3rd week stay was fine, (even though there was a humming noise all night which disturbed my sleep… I did not complain). 4th week stay the bed had a large dip in the bed so I asked to change rooms. The guy at reception moved me to a family room. However, he must have been discussing me with the manager or he got pulled by the manager about changing my room as on the way out for food he had something to say. On the way out for food the guy at reception said next time I can book the canal view as it seems there are problems when I stay on the other side. On the way back into the hotel from going out for food I explained that the rooms I stay could be located on whatever side & that it didn’t bother me. What bothered me were the problems that I previously outlined. The guy at reception told me his manager said every week I complain and having to be moved. He went on to say he had even moved me (which was to do with the 2nd visit (disabled room, when I came home from work and had to go into another room). I explained today (Wednesday) this was the 2nd time I had been moved & outlined the reasons why. I even said you must have the wrong person! He went on to say that I have moved every week where again I stood my ground and told him I haven’t. He also mentioned that he has moved me. He advised me that next time I should book a more expensive room as the ones I’m booking are the cheaper rooms and to write in the notes that I want the canal view! (I was paying between £106-£120 with my discount). There was no reason for me to book a canal view as my stay was not for the view but for work purposes and to sleep. Tbh I wouldn’t pay no more to stay at this hotel and what I was paying was enough for this standard. Only stayed here due to the location. No liability at all and no apology regarding the room. Be humble and admit your rooms are not up to scratch. Maybe you should fix your drainage system and fix your beds! The rooms are advertised on numerous booking sites which discounts are given, is it my fault that the room smelt awful & that the bed needed throwing out??? I would have accepted an apology and not made to feel that all I do is complain when that is not the case. Very quick to dismiss what I had to say too and unprofessional. So Thursday day morning I woke up and went to use the shower, the door fell off the roller hinges. So after being told “I complain” I definitely wasn’t happy about this. I spoke to the night manager who was lovely and even offered me breakfast (had to decline as I was now late for work). I explained the situation about the day before and he said he would pass the info on to the manager! Also that the door would be fixed. Came back Thursday evening and the door was still broken after being told by the guy in reception it would probably be fixed due to me reporting it in the morning. I spoke to another lovely lady who I explained everything to & she offered me breakfast & to change my room but to be honest I was exhausted and declined due to me leaving at 8am the next morning. The lovely lady explained that it was wrong how I was dealt with. For this reason I will not be staying at this hotel again.

Were do we begin . Upon arrival the carpark entrance has the largest pothole in the world that very nearly swallowed my Mini ! (That certainly wasn't in the write-up) It's a very Jekyll and Hyde hotel , the downstairs reception/bar/restaurant is very modern and well maintained but sadly upstairs within the hotel is very dated , as soon as we opened our hotel room door the stench of bleach hit us, to the degree our eyes hurt .... We had to open windows to vent the smell and leave the room for an hour or so, there is no central heating and considering the weather was very cold outside the room was then freezing .we ventured to the bar /restaurant where the staff were very friendly and very helpful , and the evening food was very good . BUT The room let all that down it was just large enough for a double bed , that had the most uncomfortable mattress, has clearly seen better days and 1 bedside cabinet . And sadly was the noisiest room we have Ever stayed in ,. At first we assumed we were located beneath maybe a laundry room as the noise sounded like a washing machine on full spin cycle , and I was hoping the noise would stop at a reasonable hour , as we had had several emails prior to our stay with regards to events being held at the hotel and could be noisy but only until 1am so I assumed maybe their working laundry would end at this 1am cut off too but it continued all through the night and we were both unable to sleep . When we reported our terrible night's sleep to the breakfast staff the following morning it Turns out we were based on the top floor and were advised that the hotel doesn't do its own laundry? So as to what this awful loud noise was all night is a mystery - she assumed it may if been the kitchen staff leaving the fans on all night ? Advised we should report it and claim some form of discount or refund ! So we munched on our very cold cooked breakfast and went in search for reception staff ,there were no reception staff available all morning so emails were sent with our complaint to which they were ignored on several occasions and when finally acknowledge they dismissed everything we said , they very poor aftersales indeed .

Lovely hotel on the outside, price was decent for a 1 night stay with my partner and son. Checked in to a ground floor room, key card access. Room was a good size, had 3 single beds, wardrobe space, ensuit and a TV although the remote needed new batteries. Bathroom was clean, and had toilet paper. Towels were also included. I could smell something foisty, and didn't realise where it was coming until later in the night about to go to sleep. At the side of my bed there were mushrooms growing from the carpet. Upon closer inspection, there was mould all on the skirting board and wall. In the shower there was some grouting missing so presumably this is the issue. The drawers on one side of the beds handle was broken, and there were strange stains on the ceiling. I hardly slept at all, considering all I could smell was mould, and the fungi growing next to me the rooms walls were very thin, we could hear our neighbours snoring, watching TV and chatting. We could also hear the people in the room above us, stomping around in the night and early morning. We ate our evening meal in the restaurant, fairly reasonable, then asked for dessert menus, to then be forgotten about so I had to go ask again. Ordered dessert, waited 45 minutes before asking where our desserts were, to then be told the kitchen had not received our ticket. The staff member was very apologetic however and was rectified straight away. Breakfast was a good price and tasty, but cold. Don't recommend this hotel, one of the worst nights sleep I've ever had.

I held my 21st birthday party here. Firstly, the communication from yourselves was very poor - I booked the venue back in February and it took over a month to hear from you with regards to Costs, seating plans etc. When we arrived at the venue, the tables were already up and we had not been given an option regarding to how the room layout was despite being told we could choose. We were happy to set up with our own decorations but when we asked staff members for help supplying another table for the Sweets, the member off staff came across very rude and uninterested in helping. During the actual party, most of my guests came to me and expressed concerns regarding the hospitality team working my party. They were rude, dismissive, uninterested and people had to send drinks back as the mixers were flat, the Guinness was off and glasses were dirty. Guests to my party also found issues at check-in. My auntie was told her room reservation didn’t exist, however when I showed them the confirmation emails, the booking was found. This delayed my family getting ready for the party. Having paid £547.50 towards the buffet because our own catering wasn’t allowed, I was disappointed that staff removed it before the end of the party and guests were left hungry and disappointed - having paid for this food it is such a waste for it to have been binned and no members of staff came to as me or my family whether we would like the leftovers boxed up to stop it going to waste. I have looked back on the menu I chose and I am disappointed that there was no quiche, green salad or celery. At the end of the night when waiting for taxis, my guests were told to be quiet in a very hostile manner, this behaviour from staff left guests feeling unwelcome and they weren’t allowed to wait inside while waiting for taxis. My 80 year old grandmother was made to stand in the cold while waiting for her taxi.

Well, this might sound very petty to some peole but not to me. Arrival and receptionist very good. Room 39. the colour of the room was like someone had smoked in their for 50 years. One of the curtains was hanging of the hooks , would take a few mins to repair i would think. A huge burn mark on the carpet made by an iron. No backing on remote for tv so it did not work quite as it should as batteries where loose. Pillows, well they were like bricks, so hard, well i can't describe them as anything else, just rock hard. And finally the bed, well OMG, fit for purpose, no no no, you could feel every spring coming through right to your body, never slept all night, and huge dip in the middle from single visitors who visit. I would not even let my dogs sleep on that mattres incase the springs came through to give them nasty injury. and finally my complaints were written down by a staff member to pass on to management and 48 hrs later no response so i take they do not care what experience their guests have, just to add we will never cross your threshold again.

This was my first stay at the Cuttle Bridge for 3 nights whilst visiting the NEC. The staff and service were great from check in and the restaurant and bar, very friendly. Food was good and drinks, however the buffet breakfast was hit and miss, hot and cold. Location by the canal and view, lovely. Parking and access, fine. The bed and bathroom were OK but could be better. There is a lack of attention and investment in basic daily management checks, maintenance and cleanliness, such as the carpets and decor in the corridors. We spotted things which had gone unchecked throughout our stay, like a vacuum of the corridor. I had some issues with noise from other guests, but could be improved with sound insulation. I would stay here again as the service was good and staff very welcoming.

We stayed here for crufts , at first glance inside was stunning and the manager, bryony I believe was lovely, we were then shown were to go and as soon as you headed out of the restaurant it was like entering the shining, we were expecting a set of twins to ask us to play with them , we got into our room number 8 it was filthy mold in the crease of the bathroom door , the wind had foam shoved in it to stop a draft , holes in the walls , giant scratches across the wall , my light didn’t work , fortunately my friends did , the smell that came from the bathroom was stuff of nightmares, I couldn’t even stay in there long enough to shower it was vile , we used are own sprays it didn’t even cover it , we explained to the staff the next day how bad the smell was and it was so nonchalant oh yeah that’s sewage behind us , we’d expect maybe in summer but not when it’s snowing fair that it was close to crufts

While we had a couple of glitches, the staff was great and the room was spacious. We dined in the restaurant and enjoyed the food, sharing the cheese garlic pizza bread for starters, fish and chips for my partner and chicken burger for myself. All was delicious. The waitress was a joy, spreading sunshine on a rainy day. Deciding to eat elsewhere on our second night, we came back to the hotel and ordered an espresso martini brownie from the dessert menu. Boy was that delicious!! Breakfast both days was buffet style, and tasty! Downside was instant coffee for breakfast, and the tv remote in our room didn't work properly. We would definitely stay again. Convenient to the NEC where we were attending an event.

Stayed for one night during a film shoot. Its Okay, that's all. The rooms are sufficient, but everything was cheap and falling a part. My shower temperature dial was broken, lots of cracks and damaged walls, furniture etc. The attached restaurant was nice and welcoming. I had the soup starter, which unfortunately was incredibly hot, like it's been nuked in the microwave (a big no for me). I ended up burning the roof of my mouth which is still raw. This put a bit of a sour experience on the rest of my stay . I had the vegan burger main. Again it was okay, just boring, I didn't finish it. Not much on it other than a few shreds of lettuce. The staff were lovely and welcoming; the canal view was lovely. 5/10

Horrible dated room. Walls were damaged, and bed was uncomfortable. Heater was rusty and main power switch was on a different wall, and not labelled. I did request another room but staff were less than interested in trying to help with this. I was booked in for two nights but preferred to drive home, 5 hours to Cornwall, after a full day's work rather than stay the 2nd night. In 25+ years of working away i have stopped in many hotels, in many towns, cities and countries and this place falls into the worst 5 places i have ever stayed.

I've stayed here a number of times for work. The staff are really friendly and helpful - I've not a bad word to say about them. The rooms could do with a bit of TLC in places (nothing a handyman couldn't sort), but otherwise clean and spacious. Rooms facing the road can be a bit noisy due to lorries visiting the nearby industrial estate, and a little whiffy if it's been raining on the nearby water treatment works. Rooms with a canal view are best - the view, evening sunlight, no road noise, and never whiffy.

You get what you pay for, the building and the rooms are tired and in need of some TLC but there has been an attempt to modernise. The walls are paper thin and every floorboard creaks so you need to be a heavy sleeper. I can forgive all this as it's reflected in the price. What I don't forgive though and don't appreciate is the kitchen staff sitting after their shift slagging off the management and front of house staff. I must have heard the lady with braids and checked trousers say "all they do is sit on their arses drinking tea and eating biscuits" at least 10 times. If you have a problem with where you work, you take it up with those involved, you don't vocalise it for customers to listen to.

A mixed bag of good bad and terrible some service personell were great and some personell were very rude and unpofessional same with the restaurant food which was a mix of good like the pork belly and great and bizarre like the fat soaked kebabs on a bed of terrible tasting leaves the upstairs passage decor look like its stuck in a 1930 s time warp the room floors a very creaky and the room walls are paper thin otherwise the rooms were spacious and clean but the downstairs bar toilet stank i think that a manager or independent consultant should keep the good sides of the hotel and replace the bad sides to get it to reach its presently half baked full potential

I'm not sure if all rooms are like this, but there's a cold draft through the windows as well as road noise, which is so loud I might as well be standing outside. The mattress in my room was very poor, skirting was damaged in many places. Stains on the carpet, you had to turn sideways to get through the door. Staff are friendly and accomodating. Restaurant, function room and reception are decorated nicely, just a shame the hallway to rooms 14 upwards looks like it hasn't been decorated since the 80s.

Room: Big in size and decently equipped, however very unclean. Chewing gum wrapper on floor, gone off milk capsule and toilet that smelt of s&#t. Service: Staff were okay average, as expected, however the bar and waiting staff were really nice. The reception were average and unenthusiastic. Location: Great, right on the cannel and lovely views. Overall price was ridiculous for what you actually got. Wasted £128, could have gone to the premier or travel lodge which ain't much better, however location and bar staff are great. Need a revamp and better cleaning services.

Another buisness trip The hotel did have parking so big vans can get in too Hotel had beautiful location and easily accessible Reception girl was not over friendly but did her job by explaining everything to me Room was airy bed was comfy and the tv was large Room did have a bath which was a bonus as I prefer a long soak to a quick shower. Coffee facilities were basic but clean and tidy. Breakfast buffet was not the biggest and best in the world but did the job To summarise Comfy night Nice room nice parking nice location Staff could have been a bit friendlier and breakfast a bit more variety Overall score 7 out of 10.

The smell of the room was so awful it made us physically gag every time we walked in, did complain but nothing was done except a little spritz of febreeze, which doesn’t help when it smells like someone left something rotten to fester in there for months. The mattress was so messed up we were falling into the pit it made in the middle of the bed, and the noises throughout the night from the plumbing will keep you awake. I mean for £50 a night you get what you get but I will never recover from the trauma of that scent .

This was a stay booked through my work. At first, on the face of it, it was underwhelming. It looks a tiny bit tired. That perception soon changed. The restaurant changed my view on the whole experience. The food is fantastic, both breakfast and dinner. Both days of my stay. The stand out person for me was Linda. She went so far over her role it was great to see. Made me feel special and our group. The hotel may be 3 stars, but the experience is 5 stars. Thank you Linda!

The food, staff and event suite were very very good. I had an issue with first room we were given....the manager swapped us and put us in a larger warmer room. However the carpet didn't appear to have been vacuumed. The the carpet had black mould around the edges paint and wallpaper pealing off. Bathroom dirty and smells of sewage. It's a shame because downstairs is lovely....the rooms let the cuttlebridge down. Again I can't fault the staff and service thank you.

Have been going to The Cuttlebridge for years and have always received good service, the staff very friendly and the food has been very good. Recommended to several people. Sorry to say not today, had to wait for our food for over 45 minutes despite only another table there and was extremely disappointed with the meal. The quality not good, had the same meal a few months ago and it was beautiful. It seemed to have been bought in and microwave prepare. Food has really gone down.

Stayed here for visiting the NEC. The evening food was very nice and the staff were friendly. My favourite bit was the cosy bar, really nicely decorated and the fire really feels lovely whilst sipping away and watching the rain outside. My low score is based on the room. Mouldy bread at breakfast, any problems on the M42 and you are gridlocked in the car park. My toilet kept filling all night and although the overflow went into the bowl it still managed to flood the bathroom. Lovely location, friendly staff, excellent menu options and great quality of the meals. However, there was a long wait between starter and main course, the road noise in the room was considerable (though we were accommodated road side) and the breakfast (while good in its options) was overheld under heat lamps resulting in poor quality at the eating stage, perhaps smaller batches refilled throughout breakfast would help?

Awful place. Room was poorly decorated. No TV remote. Handles falling off furniture. Unfortunately because of HS2 workers filling all the local hotels not much choice about. Had to queue to get a table in the restaurant as there was not enough staff to sort anything out, despite plenty of room. Food was nothing special and certainly not memorable apart from its blandness. Unfortunately I have to stay there again in a couple of weeks.

Nice location but it was a boiling hot day and none of the tables had parasols to shelter from the sun. We had planned to have a carvery outside as we have 2 dogs. Changed our mind tho the sun beating down on our heads was bad enough let alone the poor dogs. Won't go back there again.

Not a bad place to stay, car park is a bit akward to begin with and not very clearly marked out from the road. Rooms are clean and comfortable but the staff were exceptional, approachable and friendly. Bar/restaurant on site and the food is at a very high standard. I will be staying again for future business in this area.

Hotel right by the canal. Towpaths to the right can be muddy, to the left made up, easy walking. The hotel needs a little bit of tlc. Thin walls so can hear neighbouring room occupants in their rooms. For the price OK.

Went for a meal last night. A wedding was on in the function room but on arrival restaurant wasn't that busy in my opinion. Service very slow despite staff huddled at the bar on several occasions! Not the friendliest staff and food quire average. Menu seems to have reduced since last visited pre pandemic. Was disgruntled to find my husbands desert served in a broken ramekin. Disgusting really

The staff are very friendly and the food served at the hotel is excellent. It's quiet, located next to the canal, which offers a great walk. It's a ten minute drive from the NEC so it was perfect for our stay. I've stayed here a total of five times and I plan to return next year.

This establishment was comfortable with a pleasant atmosphere. Staff were helpful, friendly and polite. It was quite nice and enjoyable. Would like though to mention the car park had no parking for disabilities making it difficult with the narrow parking spaces. Sorry but I took two spaces so I could get out of the car and placed my blue badge on the dashboard.

Room was a bit shabby, head board on the bed was broken and wonky (see photo). Breakfast was good value, and the location is great for the NEC or Birmingham Airport as you can get on the M6 toll (past the paid section) and it's pretty quick to get to the M42. Good value basic hotel.

Went here for a meal and drinks with friends and family. Great atmosphere, food was delicious and prices were decent. Amazing outdoor area backing onto the canal, and plenty of tables and chairs indoors and outdoors. Food took a little bit of time to come out, but it was a Friday night, so expected. But food was fresh and hot and no complaints from anyone.

My wife and I stopped here for 1 night for a show locally. The staff are very professional and friendly. The bar area is nice and cozy. The breakfast are great. Just mind your self when entering the car park, stick to the right when entering as there was a massive pothole.

So we booked our wedding here for 2020 but due to covid it was delayed until August 2021. Cannot express the love I have for this place! They catered to everyone and everything we needed. Food is superb staff are amazing and the party they throw in their function rooms are the best! Secret gem of a place we love it there. It will always hold a special memory for us. Cant recommend this gorgeous place enough! X

  • Mandy Truman

Bit disappointed, only went there for a drink. Last time I was there, about 20 years ago! (I am not that old ! ) The beautiful barn structure roof and long bar has since gone :(. It is now a restaurant and function room with a hotel bilte on the side. Kiddies outside area gone. Such a shame, used to like going there with my friends. Good for a function.

Rooms tired in desperate need of refurbishment. Bathroom looked clean, but old and strange urine smell. Room smelled damp. Staff pleasant enough, but only saw them during check in. Hotel very noisy as there was a wedding which went on until late. Parking was also very busy with wedding guests.

Lovely rooms and venue, bar a bit expensive, staff friendly, but could do with sound proofing for bedrooms as we were woken up at 4am by drunk loud neighbours laughing and walking around on creaky floorboards, this went on for over an hour until I went to look for a member of staff at gone 5am to complain. Other than that it is a lovely place

Perfect location, recently had a refurbished bar and restaurant, great outdoor space. Sadly the rooms are the biggest let down. Good parking and access, if only the trucks didn't park outside to have their breaks, getting out would be safer and easier.

Chicken was overcooked, good job they gave us a steak knife each as even that struggled to cut the green beans. My wife's glass was chipped and still had lipstick around the rim from a previous customer. I was a regular customer prior to COVID but won't bother again.
