Hands down best selection of wines and high end liquors in the state. The regular wine offerings from Yellowtail to Grand Cru Chateau Lafit Rothschilds and everything in between rivals the best wine stores that I have been to anywhere and prices are surprisingly reasonable. The staff seem to have expert knowledge across each wine region. If you’re looking for low end liquor or small bottles this is not your store though. They definitely cater to the sophisticated buyer but don’t make you feel like an idiot if you’re not. Highly recommend if you’re flying into SLC as it is close to the airport and pass by if you’re going up to Park City or to the National Parks.

We had come in looking for a Christmas present, being as young and inexperienced as we were we were looking very hard for a wine that was "expensive" for my fiance's mom. We were pointed in the direction of a man In a trucker hat who seemed to know quite a bit about the products and taste. He told us we didn't need to spend a pricey amount on a good bottle and pointed us in a direction of wines that had high points and had been good sellers. Which was nice, because it saved us $40 on our budget. He knew very much about history and origins of his liqours. They also have mini bottles of grey goose and other kid liqours, which is great for youngsters like us!

Torn on how I feel about buying any alcohol in utah in general. I only mention this because it inevitably influences how I think of the state owned wine/liquor stores. Wine is sometimes stored in less then ideal conditions, not necessarily in the stores, but in the main warehouse. Not a big deal for a $15 wine, but unacceptable for $50+ wines. Wine and liquor are slightly more expensive then in surrounding states, beer however is drastically more expensive. Typically $15+ for a 6 pack. Decent selection for a Mormon controlled state owned store, not really comparably to a real wine store.

  • Jordan Bradley

The store was very clean and well organized and they had specific breakdowns of wine region and location, with posted maps and plenty of staff willing to help. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the person who helped me is actually a very old work friend, who I know to be an extremely knowledgeable vinophile. I do not know how the overall selection compares to other states, or to other wine sources, (because I'm not a huge wine buyer), but for the general purposes of most people and normal restaurants, it's an great store.

Was able to walk right in without a line - BONUS! The store is very clean, pretty easy to navigate, and people seemed to socially distance themselves well. Unfortunately, they were out of my favorite Red Moscato Electra, BUT I forgot to ask someone for it so that's on me. The staff were very friendly and even wished my friend a happy birthday! Will definitely visit again, though I might call ahead next time to check stock :) Either way, we got some tasty new wines to try with the birthday girl so we're very happy

It was built to replace the original Wine Store by 300 S 255 E, and it shows the moment you step inside to see more wine than can fit in your field of view, not to mention a good spot for regular booze or beers too. Stop by to get some box wine to pair with your costco bulk buy foods or get a little JD to go with your 2 liter of coke from Walmart just up the street. The staff is always busy, but that's because they always give it their all.

In my opinion the only store to get wine in Utah. Decent selection of wine and for the most part the staff is friendly which is not usually true for other liquor stores in Utah. One of the managers (older skinny guy) and another male employee with a beard are super knowledgeable about wine & friendly. I wish Utah would change the laws and allow independent wine stores so we can have more petite producers and a wider selection from abroad.

  • kristopher thomas

This is the best liquor store I've been to in Utah. Still only gets 1 stars because the Mormon church runs the government and the government runs the liquor store. When your liquor store resembles a DMV, you live in a pretty hellish environment. I dont take issue with authority or religion per se. I take issue with incompetence and in 2018, the Mormon church holds a monopoly on incompetence as it pertains to governance.

  • Andrew Freeman

Asked for a certain whiskey and after waiting for the store manager to search in the back or check the computers, and the best he could do is give me a list of stores and told me that I should call the not open to the public warehouse and ask if I could go in, and whether or not they actually had it. Why do I have to call the place I am not allowed to go? [WARNING, sarcasm ahead!] Thanks for your lack of help.

  • Maddie Smith

Female employee was very nice and helped me find my favorite wine. Male employee was very rude and did not accept my Id because it was out of state. He refused to scan my ID and didn’t accept any of my four other forms of ID. He also refused the ID of he person in front of me because there was a scratch on it even though the person was at least 35 years old. Extremely unhappy with the service.

  • Milo Carrier

I don't know exactly how to say it, but my expectations were definitely met. These guys advertise exactly what they carry. If you need wine and liquor, this is your one stop shop. Great selection, all kinds of wines and some things I had never even heard of, which I really respect. The prices are reasonable, and the staff is almost friendly. Knowledgeable, and almost friendly. Cheers!

  • Karen Keener

I was really sad when I moved to Utah and discovered I couldn't get a good wine anymore between $5 and $10 at Trader Joe's. However, the guys who work at The Wine Store, Eric and Kenny have tried so many of the wines and are extremely helpful. For around $10 or $12 they found me some great buys. They were fast and friendly as well. They're close to home and I'll definitely be back!

  • John Allison

This is my local Utah State liquor and wine store. It's got a pretty good selection and the employees have always been pretty helpful when needed. Also, compared to some of the other locations, this store seems to stay a little cooler. With none of the beer being in refrigerators it helps with getting your beer cold a little faster than dealing with warmer beer from the outset.

  • katelyn henry

It needs to be made more clear that this location, more than anything is a WINE store. As an out of state visitor, I knew going on the search for liquor in Utah would be difficult, but this was just frustrating. If you are looking for anything other than wine, this store is not it. They had maybe 1 type/brand of each liquor, and a handful of beer cases. Absolutely ridiculous.

  • Victoria Morrow

The wine store on 3rd w and Harris has the best selection of wines, and while the liquor and beer selection isn't the largest, they do have quality products. The employees are very knowledgeable about the items they carry, if one of them doesn't know something about a particular item, they will find you someone who does. Each trip inside is a new learning experience.

  • Susan Keene

Fine selection and knowledgeable staff. Part of the store is for domestic wines and the other half is for foreign wines. Easy to find on east side of 300 west south of Wal-Mart, parking at rear of building. You can spend as little as $5 for a bottle or spend several hundred, and staff will guide you. This is where I'd go if planning a wedding with champagne!

  • Stephen Prax

Wine selection at this location is top notch. Always quick service. Beer and liquor selection is limited, but this is a WINE store. Don’t expect the same selection as other liquor stores. They still have high end beer and liquor selections. Never an issue with parking like other liquor stores downtown. Great to visit on your lunch if your in the area.

  • Lori Lee

Love this store, it's small but the entire staff are so friendly and love to joke around. The store can be packed, but they zoom thru customers like it's nobody's business!! The wine selection is amazing for the size of the store!! Will reccomend this location to anyone who asks! Thanks guys, keep up the good work and awesome customer service!

  • TEJAS SONAVANE

Terrible customer service. I had a few bottles to buy and one bottle to return (leak in an unopened bottle). After standing 15 minutes in the line they processed my return then told me i had to stand again in the line to be able to buy these bottles completely ignoring me the whole time and being very rude. Last time ill go to this place.

  • Clémence Roger

My kids have their favourite sweet shop, I have my favourite local wine store. Thoroughly enjoy the selection of French, Italian and even Hungarian wines, as well as Japanese whiskeys. If I ever feel a little adventurous and want to try out a new beverage, the staff has recommended some excellent choices. Bacchus would be proud! …

  • I Am

I give this thing a higher rating if I could but considering the dabc controls all the booze in the state I just kind of hate them for what they are but this a good store. The staff do an excellent job in the store is always clean it's really awesome but again Nanny state so not a lot of great reviews sorry staffers who work so hard.

  • Erica Trittschuh Armitage

How did I not know this place existed? Finally a large selection of wines to choose from. Store is clean, bright, and things are well labeled. Staff are actually available, they offer to help, and they seem genuinely happy to help find things for you. Store manager, Eric, knows his wine and does a great job with recommendations.

  • Derek Kappas

The staff of every State Liquor Store is always safer to help even if they don't have the best product knowledge. Let's face it, you'd have to be a raging alcoholic to know something about every drink they have. Actually Im an alcoholic so I can attest to that, however I still haven't tried all the wines they have , hiccup!

  • Brian Charles

Wow, their selection is extensive over what you can find at the other liquor stores. They still have beers and other liquors beyond wine but this is definitely a wine store. If you enjoy browsing the wine selection at your local liquor store and haven't been here yet, I highly recommend making the trip here to check it out.

  • Stephen Nicholas

This state wine, beer and liquor store has the best wine selection in the area. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Just like liquor stores in non regulated states, one will find the various major and minor vineyards represented. Using wine rating apps may help the risk averse wine drinkers make a decision. Have fun!

  • William Reed

This is the adult candy store of Utah. Wine is organized by region or by type with the best selection in the state. There are also great beer and spirit selections available. If you want to try a great wine ask the manager for a recommendation. He is what sets this location apart from all others. He really knows his wine!

  • Mina “みな” System

Secret location of wine and even some hard liquors. Some wines have the points shown on little signs above the bottles, great descriptions. I never thought wine could taste like so many things all at once. Sour diesel, blueberry, mango habanero, the works. Don't forget to brown bag on the street, you'll get pulled over.

  • Mom Of3

was DREADING being the one designated as liquor store running at 6 PM, NEW YEARS EVE night. However, thankfully, this location just happened to be most convenient to stop at on my trip, and I was seriously in and out. Not even one person had to wait in line the whole 20 ish minutes I was looking around.

  • C - Roses

As it's name suggests, this store has a impressive variety of wines and the like to choose from; however their craft beer section is quite small so do not think that you can also get your beer shopping done at this wine store as you will likely have to make another stop somewhere else!

  • Kirsten H

Excellent selection of wine! Only reason this isn't 5 stars is the customer service from one individual was terrible. He had an attitude when I asked if they could special order. His response was, "YOU can special order anything online. Our minimum is 30 so you'll be buying a case."

  • Alessandro Rigolon

Hands down, the best state-run liquor store I've been to. It feels like entering an actual store, and not a warehouse like other Utah's liquor store. The wine selection is huge, and although the beer selection is quite small, they have very good stuff. The staff is super friendly.

  • Nick Schoess

On God, this place slaps. Rolled up to the joint and immediately spotted the homies sharing the love in the parking lot. Got our beer and was pleasantly surprised to see two more homies had joined in to really make this zany tailgating lollipoluza a family event. Highly recommend.

  • Shelly Baxter

Hard to find a place to buy a bottle of wine in a dry state like Utah. We had to get directions from some guy at a place that only services clubs. Don't trust your Google on this one... Ask for it. This place was bigger than I thought it would be and had anything you could want.

  • Erienne Kriesch

Great selection of wine! We were on the fence between two and an employee, possibly the manager, helped us out. We have a new favorite wine! He clearly knows and cares about the varieties on his shelves and was really helpful. We've already made our second visit for a restock!

  • Drake Shattuck

Surprisingly great selection from a State run (communist) wine store. They do a good job and have nice stores but it would really be great if wine was available at any grocery store like in civilized cities throughout the world. Uncle Gary and Papa Thomas gotta get their cut.

  • Mike Jentzsch

Very good selection of domestic and imported wines at nearly any price point. There is also a small beer and a small liquor section. There is usually someone that can help with basic wine selection, but not with high end vintages. Overall staff is friendly and helpful.

  • Tiffany Lieberman

Huge wine selection. Found a shelf that has $4.50 wine which I haven't seen at other stores. But don't buy nicer scotch or the like here. I made the mistake of buying a bottle of 17 year Balvenie doublewood at $120 where it's $50 in Wendover and other nearby areas.

  • Monica Paczkowski

This store has a better wine selection than any other store, but we still don't have the things we want that every single other state in the US has. It's a joke that a bunch of non-drinking politicians decide what we can and can't have. Communism at its finest.

  • Taylor Mckinlay

Walked in 2 minutes before closing because who can keep up with Utah Liquor Store hours. Anyways, instead of turning us away they politely asked up to be speedy. They still took the time to ask us and help us out. Saved the weekend! Thanks to an amazing staff.

  • Ruston Kinney

The Street is PHUCKED up. Sorry Salt Lake you are not the nicest state when it comes to roads and 3rd west is PUCKED IDEA!!! HEY MAYOR I WANT TO SEE YOU ON THOSE 12 FOOT SIDEWALKS. Because of why. Stores incredible just please beware of unnecessary roadwork

  • Brad Montierth

Surprisingly, there is a great place to buy wine in Utah! Staff always has recomendations that are great. There are always affordable options. Oh, also you don't feel like a homeless alcoholic after buying here, like you do at the other state liquor stores.

  • David Tello

Traveled thru Utah & learned of the strick alcohol rules. There are no other options to purchase wine or liquor. The store had a large selection of wines & liquor. Store hours are limited & prices significantly high than our stores in California & Arizona.

  • James Workman

One of the best selections of wines in Utah. That said, it can never have 5 stars because it's a liquor store in Utah and it's stupid that everyone in Utah has no better option than going to Salt Lake to find decent wine, even if you live 2-5 hours away.

  • astralvenus

Great place, the staff is helpful and friendly and willing to help you find what you're looking for. Unfortunately they carry just a bit more wine and not a full selection or have the capability to order a wine that is not in the store for later pick up.

  • Barry Shutt

Just had a good laugh. Stopped in to buy an adult refreshment, and got carded. The little card reader said I was under 21.Pretty good considering Iam 60 years young. The clerk and I had a good laugh and I was on my way home with my adult beverage in hand.

  • Dirk Linderman

One of the best wine selections in the state! Nice new building with a great selection of moderate to expensive wine and liquors, and they even have a quick chiller for bottles since all beer and wine are kept at room temp (like all state stores).

  • thelittlethings theyarentlittle

We walked in and asked if they had vegan wines. We were quickly taken to a vegan section, right next to organic wines. How delightful!!! (We know some wines by default are vegan, but the vegan section simplified our visit) Thank you …

  • Vicious Kurai

I like the beer selection here, it is bigger than most liquor stores and offers more variety than grocery stores. The parking lot is also very spacious and I feel it is cleaner and less hassle than the downtown and sugarhouse locations.

  • Maja J.

Went in to purchase a gift wine for a friend. The associate was incredibly knowledgeable and pointed me to a variety of wines within the category and price range I was looking for. Great selection of wines, local, domestic and foreign.

  • Rod Schiffman

It's got an excellent selection of specialty wine. I was here for a better than normal selection of some spirits. Within the limits State stores have to live in, it does a pretty good job. I found most of what I was looking for.

  • Alex Palomino

Called "Utah Wine Store" but also sells liquor and beer. This is maybe the nicest ABC I've been to in town. Props to them. Also... they have a "quick chiller" device for folks needing to cool their drinks for immediate drinking.

  • Dirk Mitchell

Since this is one of the few places in Utah to get booze they don't have a lot of competition here. This location is well organized and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful so that is nice since we are forced to buy from them.

  • Mer EM

Buying retail adult beverages in Utah is an interesting experience. The only alcohol retail is in bare bones state stores. The selection was decent, but there are no mixers or condiments. The staff at this location was super.

  • Luciana Pagano Salmi

I really like this store. It has a great selection of wines and staff is friendly and helpful. Its clean and the lines usually move fast. Triple bonus for having a spacious parking lot and glass recycling bins on one corner.

  • WHJ

Good selection of beer and wine, Scotch average. What would make this wine store great would be to have knowledgeable employees who could advise and recommend, but I guess that's not considered important or relevant in Utah.

  • Katie Handon

The wait can be a little long but we never mind! Parking is never a problem, and it’s one of the few places you can go to buy alcohol where you don’t feel like a criminal I totally get why people prefer this location. …

  • Matthew Gale

Great selection of wine for a good price. The staff is helpful and friendly and always makes good suggestions for a new wine. If you’re trying to get lewandowski, make sure you get there as soon as it drops! They go fast!

  • Aimee

This place has every bottle of wine in the state of Utah. They have great selections, staff and the line isn't too bad. Very very nice wine store. They even have a small selection of liquor as well. Overall, great place!

  • N. Shane Cutler

One of the last vestiges of Utah's socialist roots, this state-owned liquor store is a brilliant declaration of Republican hypocrisy and selective love of capitalism. Plus they've got a great selection of Spanish reds.

  • Bill P

It tries hard to be the premier wine store (limited liquor selection), but it is a state owned retail store; limited hours, low visibility (not obvious when driving by). However, it is nice and has a good selection.

  • Julia T

This is the wine store we hit up when we are in SLC. There are a LOT of wine options. They also have a smaller selection of beer and liquor that's helpful if you just need to grab something along with your wine.

  • Stephanie Ball

Fairly large store with a large variety of wine and champagne. Some higher end spirits are sold there as well, I dont believe any beer is sold there. If you're looking for wine options, this is the place to go.

  • Stacy Semborski

I go to this place over any other liquor store in the valley! They still have a good beer selection when you compare it to the others. Also it is never crowded, which I definitely appreciate over the others.

  • Jenn Holman

It has limited wine selection but very convenient location wise when in a pinch.... They do have a small selection of other hard alcohol so that is nice. 3 stars because of the lack of wine at a wine store.

  • Cody Bender

Probably the least PITA of all of the DABC stores around here. Great selection of wine, pretty decent selection of beer and liquor. Check the website for stock if you're looking for something in particular!

  • Zach Williams

Pro: Get access to some of the newest beers on the market in Utah. Con: not a terribly large beer selection. I realize it's called a wine store but I just wish they're beer selection was a bit better.

  • Kayly Miranda

Even though it was a busy Friday night before the Holidays the staff was very polite. This is very obviously a wine store, but a small collection of higher end liquors like Tequilas, Vodka, Gin, Etc.

  • Adam Brumberg

Excellent and wide ranging selection, especially of European wines. Saw some great valies in Bordeaux and Rhone, along with lots of the big names. Very good selection of value wines from all over.

  • Jean-Sébastien Basque-Girouard

they had two natural wines, one orange (not natural) wine in the whole store; beer selection was very weak, some local stuff, some dogfish head and sierra nevada, all at room temperature even IPAs

  • Roswell Rogers

Should be open late, have a better beer selection (I know it says "wine store", but still), have a more obvious appearance (nearly drive right pass it everytime) and not be regulated by Mormons.

  • kchortu

For non Utahans it is a state run liquor store, their prices aren't bad but not competitive, because they don't have to be. The selection is actually quite good with a lot of local selections.

  • R. Cole Deir

The always super friendly and helpful staff at the wine store can easily find what your looking for. They are also great at suggesting wines based on your tastes and desired price point.

  • Blake Long

Pretty good selection, good sale prices on various wines and liquors. Not the cleanest place but not so bad as I wouldn't return. It was very busy when I went there on a Saturday night.

  • Roger Purser

The wine store as it's called is stocked very well with all sorts of wine and spirits!! Seems to be more low key than most other state ran stores. I recommend this store!! Enjoy!!

  • Rachel “Raychelly” Brock

I would put five stars but this location does not sell small bottles. However, the employees here were very friendly and helpful. I will be returning if I ever need a large bottle.

  • Paul Lachowsky

Great selection of wines from all over. It's sad that we have to go to a state run wine store, but at least it is pretty nice. The staff are very friendly and nice as well.

  • Kaitlyn Mahoney

This is my favorite liquor store in SLC. Big selection and smaller crowds. It's further from my house but if I have the time and energy I'll pick this location every time.

  • M Raven

This location has a great selection of higher end liquors in addition to wines, beer and cider. Great all-around store if you're not one to buy a fifth of cheap vodka. :)

  • Heather Schettler

Really good selection of wine and some liquor, with a strong focus on the expensive liquors but we were hoping to find some cheap bulk vodka that we couldn't find. …

  • Rob Rutledge

I mean...it's a State-run liquor store that operates as a monopoly without much regard for consumer choice...so as far as State-run institutions go, I guess it's ok-ish.

  • DJ HOLO

The gentleman GAURDING the front door is OVERTLY CONDENSING & CURT when communicating. He embarrassed me so horribly because I didn't know "that's not how we do things

  • Allan Stumpe (Stumpe's Misadventures)

Personally my favorite liquor store in Salt Lake. Larger than the others, not a lot of craziness, decent beer selection (as far as Utah goes) good and helpful employees

  • Thomas Moreno

When I showed up the 1st time and didn't know where anything was located. The sales associates were more then happy to help me out to find the items I was looking for.

  • Jason Carr

If you live in Utah and you’re looking at the review section of the liquor store to decide where to buy wine, then we need to schedule a sit down to cover some things.

  • Marc Christensen

This is the best store in Utah! Particularly for wine! people don't really get Utah but you can get good booze here and this store has good wine and a great selection!

  • Tatum Smuin

The selection of wine in this store makes you feel like your on a whole other world. A worker was more than happy to help me find the perfect bottle of wine.

  • ERNEST UNDERWOOD JR

Now this place has a serious selection of everything especially craft beer. Prices were ok. Can you believe the beer in this place and they do not sell ice.

  • Jo Zuber

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Love my selections and they were spa!! I am going to try one of the Staff wines and rate it. …

  • Yunjun Jung

This store has various wine in terms of price, country, species of grape. Indeed, shop is really clean and well-organized. However, staffs are not friendly

  • Kristie Smith

This store has an incredible selection of wine and a serviceable array for craft beer. Everything was tidy and clean, and the staff members were friendly.

  • Chris Creveling

This place has great selection and awesome customer service. Anything you're looking for, there's a good chance it'll be there. Very clean and nice store

  • Laurie Hoffman

For Utah they have a unique wine selection. The Essential Red from Bogle Vineyards is so good. The people working here are very friendly and helpful.

  • Steven Suggs

Selection remains low. staff was friendly this time but my experience remains mixed in this regard. Stores are super clean, nice and well organized.

  • Ashley Brown

I guess the perk of having a government alcohol monopoly is that these peeps really know their booze! Great info about wine pairings and vintages.

  • Jasson Jimenez

Always love the staff, helps me find things and makes recommendations =] good experience. Best to come during the day, afternoon too many people.

  • Oresta Esquibel

Excellent selection of wines. I can always find something new to try. Nice selection of local and foreign beers but no Canadian beers to be seen!

  • Anfaney Gladwin

They have the best selection of wine in the state of Utah. However, if I go to ANY other state, I can buy a bottle for 30% less than this place.

  • Jarod 42

Really pretty decent place to get booze in Utah not quite as much like communist era liquor store feel that the rest of the liquor stores have

  • Jeremiah Munson

Staff is super helpful. Wine selection (non-rose) is great as is the sparkling wine. High end spirits are available but quickly picked over.
