It was my first time on at the establishment on 7/11/2023 and it is very charming, the co-founder Ms. Richardson seemed pleasant as I was greeted with a smile. However, my 2-star rating is based on my interaction with the clerk (woman with braided hair and tattoo on her arm) - she was pleasant but I was totally disgusted after I saw her lick her finger to remove the icing. REVOLTING!!! This action was done after she placed the order in my box. WHERE ARE THE GLOVES; ARE YOU NOT PERMITTED TO WASH YOUR HANDS The clerk looked up I guess wondering if I saw her and I did. Second, as I completed my sale, this same woman was too busy to give me my receipt, tell me thank you, have a nice day or anything because she was too busy with her cell phone in her hand. I believe the DC Food Code not does require food handler to wear gloves. I read the reviews on this business, thus my reason for the visit. I ate a few bites of my purchase and threw the rest in the trash. Ms. Richardson I implore you to speak with your team and have them to wear gloves and/or wash hands before serving customers!!! I am unsure if I will return and if I do and I see this woman, I will quickly turnaround and leave.

While returning home after an appointment in the bustling downtown area, I decided to indulge myself with a delightful treat. After searching for dessert options online, DC Sweet Potato caught my attention. Upon arriving on my two wheel apparatus, I found April, the owner, arranging a table outside to offer samples to everyone passing by her establishment. Throughout my stay, which lasted about an hour, April's service was truly exceptional. Inside the establishment, I discovered they not only offered desserts but also sandwiches and meals. The staff demonstrated a remarkable understanding of how to truly impress a customer. Amidst April's interactions with each individual approaching the door and those walking by, I had a delightful conversation with her. It was evident that April poured her heart and soul into her business, and this dedication was evident in the mouthwatering sweet potato cakes and likely other menu items as well. I am eagerly anticipating my next visit to DC Sweet Potato, especially for lunch, and I'm excited to update my review. In summary, this place exceeded my expectations and left me in awe. The young lady behind the counter, ROCKS!!!

I ordered two cakes ($45) on Postmates to surprise my mom for her 80th birthday. After waiting an hour, the PM driver shared that the restaurant was not found at the listed location, a first. I emailed DC SPC to request hour and location updates across PM, UberEats, Yelp as well as its own site. The owner contacted me quickly to inform me that neither “Delectable Cakery” (PM), nor DC SPC (UberEats) have a 3rd party delivery relationship, the app listings were fraudulent, apologized for the inconvenience and would, in return, coordinate with the staff and have the order to me para gratis that week. I offered to keep the owner in the loop re PM’s $80 card hold release for the elusive treats, and, after several rounds of conflicting PM emails, all was resolved. I followed up with days later because ... my mom. No response, no cake.

Phenomenal Bakery located within the Savor Food Hall. Had a (Food Court meets Whole Foods )Vibe to it. The Staff was very professional, courteous, and on top of their game. Very knowledgeable about Baking and assisted in every way possible. The cakes were fresh and was thoroughly pleased the entire staff and building regulated to and worked to top perfection under Covid-19 guidelines. I'd suggest ordering ahead to assist with the pick up process. Parking was very accommodating, located in the garage yet be mindful to be courteous to park in the patron parking and pick up your order expeditiously as to allow others to shop. Also do to Covid-19 there will be no inside dining (or on the steps for that matter) ,however it was worth the drive. And look forward to returning once more.

We got this beautiful full sheet cake for our organization's 60th anniversary party. I sent them our logo and got it printed on this white buttercream icing over marble. They had so many amazing sounding combinations but we went simple to please a broader crowd. The only spot in the district I could find that really makes full sheets (most places only do a half or quarter sheet). Picked it up the day of and it was fantastic. Our pick up time did get delayed a bit which was unfortunate but the cake itself was worth the wait. Extremely pleased and hopefully next time we can get something a little more creative.

My husband & I stumbled upon DC SPC on our way to the 60th Anniversary of the March on Washington and had a wonderful interaction and experience. We liked it so well, my husband bought my 49th +1 birthday cake and a dozen cupcakes for our guests at my birthday event. The Operations Manager, Debbie was even kind enough to deliver my cake to the venue...$free.99! I had several guests call me to ask how they could get some more cake. Hahaha So needless to say, this bakery fulfilled my sweet birthday wish! I've stopped by several times on Saturday's and the store is never open. I've also called and no one picks up their customer service line. They have a Baltimore location, but I'm not willing to drive an hour away for cake or to a storefront that may also be closed. Earlier this month I ordered their cakes on QVC. I finally cancelled my order after waiting 16 days and never receiving the cakes. The sweet potato cakes are delicious and I was looking forward to purchasing them for birthday parties & events I have coming up this year. I'd love to support them if they open another store that's close by.

Special thank you to Novela for such great customer service, and April for briefly speaking with me and answering a few questions. This shop is very welcoming with tons of seating indoors and outside. I recommend sampling a piece before making your purchase. All of the cupcakes were delicious, I settled for the rum cupcake it was the first piece I sampled, and I couldn't get enough. I'll be back this holiday season for slices of cake and the miniature pies. If you're near K St, I'd recommend you do the same.

Wanted to love this cute place, but I felt we were disturbing the clerk. Sandwich was ok, but surly is the best word I could use to describe her behavior. Just short of rude. We were the only customers in the place and she clearly didn’t want to serve us. They were out of the oatmeal which is what we came for, so I ordered a sandwich. Only had two kinds of bagels. Very disappointed. Won’t return. The place has an excellent location, however snd is cute inside.

After a quick internet search for "pastry near me", I found this shop and I'm glad I did. I visited the location on my lunch break today and was greeted by both April and her sister. They made me feel so welcomed. I ordered 6 cupcakes to share with my coworkers. We love them!! They are so moist and delicious. Thanks for your hospitality and amazing cupcakes! Can't wait until my next visit.

I love Delectable Cakery! They've since left their Mt. Rainier location for a temp space in Landover, MD but nonetheless beautiful. Their signature sweet potato is moist with a sweet cream cheese frosting. Their red velvet is also very moist and flavorful with the right amount of kick. The owners are a joy to be around and customer service is top notch.

This is a great black owned bakery in the city, everything about the spot is five stars. From the cakes, to the customer service. Great ambience, and the core. I really enjoyed the art, and we able to sit down and watch out of the big, beautiful windows and people watch. The cake was moist with just the right amount of sweetness and texture.

Novela has been an exponential worker since the day I stepped into the store. I wasn’t too sure seeing what the place is about, but she made me feel extremely welcomed with the pastries and food being worth every dollar. Thank you Novela for being amazing, grateful for being a regular. :)

DC Sweet Potato cakes are a beautiful melody of flavors, a rhapsody to be cherished. Each cake pairs well with a silky cup of java. The original sweet potato flavored cake, pairs with Vanilla Macadamia Nut flavored coffee. The rum flavored cake pairs with an espresso or a medium roast.

I came in about six months ago and the owner? gave me and my partner samples of all the cakes just so we could buy a cupcake! So welcoming and so tasty. Would definitely return.

Omg.. Since they have done their soft opening in Hyattsville, I have been there every other week... I have so many people hooked on their sweet potato cake and cheesecake!!! Never disappointed. The staff are super friendly and helpful!! I give them 10 stars and two thumbs up!

The owner April Richardson is amazing! The location is awesome and the food and desserts (cakes, cupcakes, shakes, etc.) are on point! There's also an Art Wall inside that features pieces from various local artist collections. Check them out... you won't be disappointed!

It was a spontaneous buy for my husband (he has the sweet tooth). I really enjoyed the original and bourbon cake and I’m not a cake person or enjoy a lot of sweets. I highly recommend to stop by and get a piece of cake to go. You can try a piece before you buy it.

I have a sweet potato cake in my freezer for 6 months(wrapped) and took it out yesterday (12/19). Once thawed I thought it would be not good. Surprise it was moist and delicious. What a wonderful surprise. Will buy more again. Shop and support local stores
