Pros: The front desk staff and kitchen staff were great. They took great care of me while there. They are very professional yet down to earth with great personalities. The breakfast was decent. I understand that I'm from a different culture and eating beans or maize is just not my idea of a good breakfast. However, the cook-to-order omelettes and array of fruits made up for it. Cons: I was not made aware of its policy of only vegetarian meals until I got on the property. Even worse its policy stated that they will fine you 200 KSH for bringing meat on its premises. Had I known this prior to, I would not have booked. A hotel owner will not dictate my diet. July is winter season for Kenya. There was no AC nor heat control in the rooms. So if its 50 degrees outside, its 50 degrees inside. Bottom line, it sucked trying to get comfortable while in the room. Which lead to the next issue of hot water for the shower. The shower just would not get hot. It was 25% under luke warm at best. Imagine taking a cold shower then walking into a cold room. Not sure how the other beds were in the other rooms but my particular bed was horrible. It was ultra hard. However, I attribute this to I don't like ultra hard beds but others do. I hear hard beds are good for your back but I still prefer a little give in the mattress. The Wi Fi was very unreliable. At times it would stay connected for an hour or two and, other times, it would disconnect every 10 minutes. Conclusion: My mindset is I don't usually book luxury hotels when I travel because I don't plan on being in the room very much. I travel to explore the city not hang out in the room. For that matter, I prefer to book hotels with decent basic accommodations such as overall clean hotel, comfy bed, hot shower, safe environment, free breakfast, and reliable & free Wi Fi (prefer free airport shuttle too but I can flex with this...lol). Being easy on the eyes is helpful too (meaning nice décor and overall look of the hotel). The website I booked this hotel on rated it almost 4 stars. I even saw a sign in Nairobi advertising the hotel as "luxury hotel." I strongly disagree with both these statements. I rate this hotel as a 2 star (maybe 2.5 on a good day) and an average hotel.

So this was a place I won't forget in my lifetime. Cons- 1. Let's start with the elephant in the room. If you are not Muslim don't bother with this place. There is literally stigmatisation and they look at you as if you are worse than dirt. Some of the wait staff will walk away while taking your order. It absolutely isnt worth your money. This is the biggest red flag 2. The rooms they literally don't have any air circulation I complained of this so much till I gave up. 4. Then the mosquitoes are truly a marvel to behold. By day 2 I honestly was ready to go. 5. One specific barista was so rude to clients and staff that I literally lost my appetite. Total lack of hygiene where he would scratch his buttocks and continue serving. He literally didn't listen to anything. When it came to food allergies they literally didn't care. 6. Food- I got sick more than twice so let's leave it at that 7. You get electrocuted in the shower so beware if you have any Cardiac issues 8. There is a cacophony of barking digs at night. 9. No ac no air circulation. The room fan barely makes an impact. Opening the windows brings in more mosquitoes. Pros: 1. The receptionists are warm and friendly especially the guy who covers the desk at night. So are the cleaning staff. My stuff was safe for the 18 days I was there. 2. The chefs and some of the waitstaff have good attitudes. 3. The location is the major pro 4. The out doors is scenic 5. There was a great bald barista who was transferred during my stay. He was a professional

There are two positive comments I can make about this hotel but unfortunately a whole lot more negative ones. The hotel is dilapidated, has not been maintained and is quite frankly hazardous to one's health with electric plug sockets hanging off the wall, weirdly wired shower fittings, leaking toilets, shower faucets flying off walls leaving water gushing out and flooding rooms. I will leave it there. The rooms smelt like cigarette smoke and were not very clean - walking barefoot from the bathroom to the bedroom my feet were so dirty having picked up dust and dirt from the floor en route I had to wash them again and made sure to wear shoes on the walk back to the bed! The positives are that it is affordable and the location is good but there are other far better hotels nearby which are just a little more expensive. The experience my party had whilst staying at Jewelstone were like none I have experienced in an hotel before and I would advise booking somewhere else! Memorable but for all the wrong reasons! My stay at Nairobi became much comfortable coz I was staying in JEWEL STONE HOTEL in Parklands. This hotel has spacious rooms. Service is excellent. Staff is very co-operative and helpful. This hotel has very beautiful space around the hotel building where one can stroll and sit peacefully in the natural air. When it comes to food of course all the vegetarians can come here without any hesitation. When we Indians especially those who are strictly vegetarians arrive in foreign land our biggest worry is food. And since Jewel Stone not only provides vegetarian food but authentic Indian vegetarian food items it becomes the first choice for any Indian to come and stay. The entire property is kept clean and well maintained. In terms of security also this hotel gets 5/5 points from my side. The hotel is close by Diamond Plaza which is a famous shopping mall in Parklands.

The room in itself Is decent but no AC or fan is a killer. Can't imagine staying barring winter. Hot water is a hit and a miss. Got electrocuted in the shower once trying to turn the knob. The location is not central but is decent. Service on the other hand is horrendous. Forget about vegetarian food if you are vegetarian. Food is straight out BAD. Waiters don't know what they are doing. Ignore the restaurant and save yourself from regret.

WE WERE IN A GROUP ON 23 OCTOBER. OUR EXPERIENCE WERE STEALED ALL MONEY IN THE ROOM. THE DECEPTIONING SECURITY SERVICE. THEY DO NOT CONTROL THE PEOPLE WHO ENTER THE HOTEL. THEY DO NOT RECEIVE ANYTHING, AND THE OWNERS DO NOT BE RESPONSIBLE. WE WILL NOT COME BACK ESTUVIMOS EN UN GRUPO EL 23 DE OCTUBRE .NUESTRA EXPERIENCIA NOS ROBARON TODO EL DINERO EN LA HABITACION .EL SERVICIO DE SEGURIDAD ES DECEPCIONANTE. NO CONTROLAN A LAS PERSONAS QUE ENTRAN EN HOTEL.EN RECEPCION TAMPOCO..Y LOS PROPIETARIOS .NO SE HACEN RESPONSABLES.NO VOLVEREMOS

  • Christoph Juncher

They mixed up the booking and we were initially given a small room that looked like it was meant for one person. We got moved to a bigger room with mosquito net after notifying the hotel staff. One third of the water in the swimming pool has evaporated so the water filter devices are above the surface and the kitchen is all vegetarian. It's a cheap hotel with overpromising photos, but the neighbourhood is supposedly safe.

Standards gone down seriously. Used to love this place before went back and the service was bad let's not even start on how they served apple juice instead of a virgin mojito claiming lack of mint leaves and some funny looking blue balls cocktail coz they didn't have food coloring …

  • Tia #

Average option for a short stay, rooms are old and shabby. Linen should be better, bath areas require proper upkeep and cleanliness. Breakfast is a pleasant surprise with well laid out variety and meals are cooked fresh on order. Tasty pancakes ! Property is strictly vegetarian. …

  • wangari muriithi

The Spartan lounge is USELESS. Extremely pathetic. We got here before happy hour ends but they apparently didn't have some supplies for the cocktails that took more than 30 minutes and you can't order multiple drinks... What's wrong with ordering multiple drinks of am paying for then.

  • Edwin Muyise

Great price for really nice accomodation. They have a pool and Wifi works great in most rooms. Its a pity the hotel strictly only prepares vegitarian meals. Ordering non vegitarian from outside the hotel draws heavy fines. Otherwise the reception staff were outstandingly hospitable.

  • David Atandi

Was my local joint but management has given up on the interior decor and maintenance. Paint peeling off the walls not so cool. Cocktails are good for the happy hours. Slow services on some ocassions. They need major improvements to brong back good standards.

  • Salim Mala

Very good hotel. stayed in April 19. Thoroughly enjoyed my comfortable stay. The rooms are clean with comfortable bed and the restaurant serves some great veg dishesl. The breakfast is also generous spread. Only a minute walk from Diamond Plaza 2

  • Momo Tsukino

Hit and miss. They have frienly staff and has buffet for breakfast which is great. However building is poorly designed. Hot water system is working which is great.

The staff and management were very helpful and made me feel right at home. I had made an error with my booking date however the hotel General Manager assisted me at 23:30 and ensured the problem was resolved. I will definitely be back.

Super strong cocktails weirdly served two at a time (that beats my logic). Cool place though, only vegetarian menu, gets busy during happy hour, worst of all the staff is rude so that's disappointing.

  • Max

Beautiful hotel with a backyard lounge called Spartan ideal for cocktails on a booklet menu maybe a happy hour would be a good addition but all in all perfect for a secret date or private party

  • Paula Warkyn
