This cafe/bakery has become one of my favourite places in Toronto within a very short period of time. My first order there was the strawberry shortcake to celebrate my anniversary with my partner, and I was immediately impressed by how delicately balanced the cream was in terms of both texture and flavour. It was light but also dense enough to hold the cake together, and the subtle sweetness really helped accentuate the natural sweetness of the fresh strawberries. There was also just the right amount of sponge, cream, and strawberries inside the cake. My second cake from here was the Belgian chocolate mousse cake, which had just the right texture and that rich chocolate flavor you would expect from Belgian chocolate. Similar to the strawberry shortcake, I thought it had just the right amount of sweetness, the balance of the flavors and different textures was also flawless with this cake. The most recent cake I've tried from there was the matcha tiramisu cake, which has been my favourite so far. When I tasted the cream by itself, I thought it might be too sweet. However, when I ate a piece with the sponge, the cream and the matcha powder, it made complete sense as the sweetness of the cream was just the right amount to offset the bitterness of the matcha powder on the top. It was such a delicately balanced cake, I was very impressed and happy with my purchase. This has become my go-to place for cakes for any occasions. I love that I don't have to order the cakes days in advance and can always expect them to have delicious cakes I can pick up and also have messages written on the cakes. The cafe itself has a charming vibe, it's a beautiful and upscale place with very high ceiling. The staff there are always pleasant and do their best to deliver the best products and service. It is tucked away from the main areas of Yorkville, but it is within a few minutes walk away from Bay and Bloor and 100% worth going slightly out of the way to try this place.

This hidden gem is great! The coffee is very good and is available in take away paper cups when you’re on your way and want something more refined than fast food coffee. The food is incredible! And its not just baked goods either. They have two menus, breakfast (served till 11am but available until they run out of ingredients), and lunch. I had a cream of corn soup garnished with crispy bacon and fresh bean sprouts; did it ever taste fresh! The flavour of the soup was almost like biting into a cob of premium honey and cream sweet corn. I also had a spoonful of my partners borscht and although it wasn’t as colourful as some others it had the taste of a grandmother’s kitchen, very good as well. The cakes available are all beautiful. I tried the chocolate hazelnut layer cake and it was great! The consistency of the cake was firm but airy enough not to go down like a brick. The layers of caramel like fudge were vibrantly flavourful while staying away from being overly sweet. The butter cream icing was like velvet, smooth, mild, but perfectly rich. I will purchase this cake again the next time I want a special treat. The staff were very friendly and did a great job making all of the customers feel welcomed and appreciated! The space is clean and welcoming plus they have two power outlets at every table so you can charge your phone or computer while you dine. Food starts at around $9 and leans towards $18-25 for the mains. Desserts are in the area of $7.

This is at very very hidden place ( it is my secret place ). Once you know this place, you want to come everyday. Are you looking for Japanese strawberry cake ? Looking for birthday cake? Just come here. You want to great food at cafe atmosphere??? Just come here!!! Price and quality matches garantie. Food here is so high quality for the price that I am always blown away!!!! I travel always around the world but this place is as good as high end French Bistro in France!!! Special of the day is always amazing too. Attention to details in food. Fresh ingredients. I come here almost twice a week sometimes when I am in Toronto, just to have their specials. Staffs are very friendly and cautious. Thank you to my favorite chef, Brian. Always make our brunch so special every week!

I had the Jambalaya there, and bought a slice of cake to go. The Jambalaya was spicy and yummy. The slice of cake, however, was NOT worth the price. My friend had the exact same piece at the restaurant and it was nearly TWICE the size I received. What you get is subjective to who is cutting your cake, I suppose. Even my friend was shocked at the discrepancy. I suppose if you're planning to eat cake, eat on site. It tasted average though, I've had better elsewhere. Service however, was fine. They were polite and quality of food was otherwise not bad, although nothing amazing. I'm disappointed though, was hoping for a hidden gem, but there's so many other places in the area. Ambiance is clean and quiet, I noticed half the tables were filled with people having coffee/dessert only.

Went to the cafe to reserve the Strawberry cake for a Sunday pickup. The young lady who took my order was pleasant and when I went back after couple of days to pick up the cake, she recognizes me and gets the cake without me asking. People have already written a lot about their Strawberry shortcake, but I want to say it again that it was not too sweet, but really tasty and texture was very good. Not just the cake, even the whip-cream and the fruits in the cake were really fresh. Note: Had to order in person, since I wasn't comfortable sharing the credit card number. Although, its not much of an issue, but not sure why they don't allow reserving cakes without payment ahead. Hope they change it, so I could order ahead without giving out card numbers over the phone.

I came in wanting to buy the pistachio cake as it looked great when seen online, but unfortunately in person, all the mousse cakes did not look as appetizing so I opted for the coconut ube cake instead. In my opinion, the buttercream was a bit too much on the sweeter side (and did not taste the ube) and the cake itself was not light/airy like chiffon, but rather dense and gooey. Overall, I’ve had better cakes within this price range ($52) and probably won’t be going back for the cakes, however the service was great and the ambiance in the cafe was very nice!

“Delicious cakes. Wished there’s more options.” - aged comment. The comments above were from months ago. Today I’d like to say something disappointing! It’s unpleasant! I spent over $17 on the avocado toast, as it is the closest place that I could get a light meal, since Wholefoods closed the entrance facing Yorkville street. Nonetheless to say, $17 is alright if the food and service were alright. Unfortunately, the green leaves beside the toast were messy. The worst part though, was when my meal was in making, the girl with glossy red hair was dusting right above the food counter! I will NOT go back ever again!

Dessert Lady is a Swiss Army Knife that excels in many different cuisines and styles. When you take a bite – whether a savoury pasta dish, a hearty salad or an addictive slice of mouse cake – you feel the thought and care put into the food they serve. I have tried a handful of their menu items, and I've enjoyed all of them. While I'm not particularly a "salad" person, I was instantly hooked on their Steak Avocado Salad. A voluminous amount of fresh greens, tomatoes, and avocado, accompanied by a tender steak. As well, you can't go wrong with their cakes. Not overly sweet, but just right.

I had a slice of their strawberry shortcake. I really wanted to like it, but (I can't believe I'm saying this) it wasn't sweet enough, neither the cake nor the whipped cream. I usually love it when cakes at cafes are not as sweet as commercial ones, but this was very lightly sweetend. It was a generous slice, but if the taste is lacking, I can't justify the price. The belgian chocolate mousse cake, however, was better. But not so good that I would get it again. The service was excellent and the cafe cute.

I have a soft spot for Dessert Lady because it was the first bakery I discovered when I moved to Toronto (2015). I’ve bought their cakes regularly and they are always made with care and utmost quality. I mean they survived the pandemic, that says a lot. I am in love with their newest flavor, the Thai tea mousse. There are layers of tea mousse, coconut and chocolate. The coconut just pairs so perfectly with the Thai tea. Highly recommend this flavor. It’s also not too sweet. Perfect balance! If you are looking for an Asian inspired flavored cake, this is it. It’s not only unique in taste, but done very well.

Family gathered from far and wide for a 75th birthday celebration in Toronto last weekend and another bakery at the last minute wasn't able to supply the cake that had been ordered. Dessert Lady stepped up and agreed to do it, and was it a wonderful thing! We got the Chocolate with Vanilla Buttercream and it was 3 layers of the best-ever chocolate cake, tasted like the best possible home-made, very lovely quality chocolate but not heavy. Moist but not gooey even a couple days later, and delivered to our downtown hotel right on time. And it was beautiful! I ordered the 8" and it would have fed 10 or more.

  • Gunjan Asher

Love this quiet gem of a cafe, tucked away in one of the by lanes of Yorkville/ bloor serving delectable pastries and cakes with freshly brewed coffee. They serve fresh orange juice which is a novelty along with tasty sandwiches and salads. Introducing a soup of the day and a few dishes of the day is the added incentive as it’s always different from the set menu. Love the concept as sometimes it’s boring even in your favourite place to have the same menu Totally in love with this place, already been 6 or 7 times in the past month. The service is impeccable and the attitude and atmosphere is super.

Absolutely loved my experience at dessert lady cafe and bakery! Firstly it’s so cute inside and the team there are friendly and wonderful! We were sat immediately and they were helpful and made great suggestions. For a busy place I was impressed that the washrooms were impeccably clean and well stocked. I had a latte with honey and an avocado grilled cheese sandwich with a garden salad and it was so flavourful and delicious! Loved this visit and I will definitely be back and bringing friends! Thank you ladies!

What a find. When my diet is over I will be running back to this place to get my dessert. Also, a strong presence of our LGBTQ2S community was present during my first ever visit here. If I was single and going on dates, I would choose this place for first dates. If you are taken like me and not on a diet, my partner and I would come here everyday!!!! Lol. Ok... I am exaggerating but I really like this place and the dessert...I am craving for more as I am writing this review. Oh...service! I have to mention this as they were EXCEPTIONAL.

  • cynthia kim

Over priced items that aren’t particularly spectacular. Desserts are better than food items in my opinion. Some cakes are delicious but every time I go to this store, I feel like its not as good as it should be for the price. For example 18$ for oatmeal is a lot and its nothing special- just regular oatmeal with berries & cream. Small bag of cookies for 8-10$ is in my opinion very expensive especially if it tastes like every other place. Service is okay.

I went to have a treat before heading back to the library at. It is a cute coffee shop where having an afternoon tea, catching up with friends or even having a professional meeting. The cakes looked mouthwatering as well as the pastries! I ordered a cafe au lait (perfect ratios of cofee and milk) with a big raspberry croissant ( it's was very filled with jam) . Perfect place to post a story .

I went here for brunch, but they have a dinner menu as well. A few of my favourite dishes was the turkey grilled cheese and the tuna tartare. The dessert platter was amazing as well. Definitely want to come back to try more! I’m not even a huge fan of macarons, but I actually really liked these ones. All the desserts weren’t too sweet, I really enjoyed that. Loved the atmosphere as well; super cute interior . They also do some AMAZING custom cakes! Pricing is pretty high but it’s a prime location. Instagram: @xtinepaige

I decided last minute that I wanted a simple and small celebration cake in this area and found this place. Many other places require you to order ahead, but Dessert Lady allowed me to walk in and buy a whole cake as long as it was available. Despite me not putting in an advance order, their strawberry shortcake still tasted very fresh almost like they just made it. I loved everything about it including the dark chocolate used to write the message. Overall worth the price, I think they made my day a lot more special.

I’m so so thankful with all the staff of the Cafeteria!!! Last week it was my mom’s birthday and we were looking for a place to buy a cake and sing to her “Happy Birthday”. We bought the cake, candles and even they borrowed to us the lighter to light up the candles!!! The staff working that day was so friendly and kind. The cake was delicious and also was the coffee and ice tea. Thank you so so much for everything! She is coming back to Chile very happy to have found this place :)

A nicely decorated cafe with awesome cake and decent food at a very resonance price. We had the lunch set + two pieces of cake. Strawberry shortcake: very classic and very delicious. Matcha tiramisu: very strong flavour of matcha, if you’re a fan of the matcha flavour you will like it as much as me The lunch set includes bake pepper, French onion soup and a tiny creme brûlée. For $25. It tastes pretty good but not super awesome. With the good portion I think it’s well worth the $25.

I ordered from dessert lady to get a birthday cake for my fiance. Despite my lack of planning and only ordering one day in advance, they were graciously able to place a rush on my order. The delivery was smooth and the cake was a huge hit. The macarons decorating the top we're delicious and the vanilla cake (amazing texture) with raspberry buttercream icing (perfect level of sweetness) was amazing. I'd order here again and highly recommend Dessert Lady. A great overall experience.

  • Yanei W

Best deserts, and best services. I ordered two cakes on my birthday once, a strawberry shortcakes, and a chocolate cake. They found out that forgot to make the chocolate one on the day I picked it up, so I changed it to a green tea mousse cake, I actually don't mind if it's not the chocolate cake, but in order to apologiaze, they let me choose 6 cupcakes for free. It is one of the best birthday, the cakes are so tasty and the cupcakes are also very delicious.

I have been living in Toronto since past 3 yes and tried a lot of bakeries. But almost all the cakes and pastries have been super high on sugar. My sister found them online while looking to order a surprise cake on my anniversary and I must say. It was the best cake I have had. The strawberry short cake was super light, filled with fresh strawberries and super low on sugar. A true dessert. For the first time the leftover cake won’t end up in the bin.

  • Peter Galactic

They convinced me to get the matcha cake and I was a little hesitant because of the price but omg SOOOO WORTH IT!!! Best matcha cake I’ve ever had!! It’s so soft and sweet just enough. Super moist but still holds its shape. I just love the simplicity of this cake and how beautiful it is!!! I highly recommend this place!! Customer service was amazing and even explained to me how they made the cake! I highly recommend!! It’s worth every penny!!!

Usually not so picky with cakes, and i had high quality cakes from here before. but what i got yesterday wasn’t so great. I ordered strawberry shortcake and strawberry was not fresh(about to go bad) and bit sour. Other than that, bread&cream were in amazing quality as usual and their service is always on point. Just make sure to pay attention to the quality of strawberries especially when the cake is all abt strawberries

  • Aster Hu

I’m a home cook myself and I’ve had many fancy desserts before, but can I just say that their strawberry shortcake is **the best** that I’ve ever tasted. The ratio of sponge cake and cream is absolutely perfect and the strawberry flavour is spot on. This is the first cake that I wanted more when I finished it. FYI their Matcha tiramisu and mango chocolate are great as well. Not fancy but the quality is assured.

Ordered a raspberry buttercream vanilla cake with lemon curd filling over the phone. It was ready for the pick up time. 5/5 take out Quality: exceptional , even after a few days Taste: sweeter than other dessert lady flavors due to the fresh lemon curd Quantity: perfect for 4-5 servings ($33) Overall: very pleased with this fruity summer flavor, I could do with less sweetness so I cut smaller pieces

  • Cess Yu

I love their strawberry shortcake! It’s very light and just a hint of sweetness— not too sweet at all which is perfect. I also love the design, very simple and cute. Would have been perfect with nicer handwriting but it’s okay. Ordered cake thru their website. Overall, would recommend! EDIT: Also bought a single slice of the Mango Chocolate cake, it was really good too! Would buy that cake next!

Been here a few times for lunch and getting my birthday cakes. Dessert lady never disappoints! A bit pricey but you can taste the quality. In addition, they’re accommodating with allergies (can’t guarantee cross contamination of course). If you’re going to eat here for lunch there’s a lot of fresh/light meals. I also love coming here in the spring/summer time cause the patio is quiet and nice.

I ordered the Thanksgiving Dinner for Two, which consisted of turkey breast, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, green beans, butternut squash soup and an apple pie. Everything was delicious and there was enough food for second helpings and leftovers the next day. I was very impressed with the food quality and value. I’ll definitely patronize Dessert Lady again!

I love their strawberry shortcake but their delivery service sucks. Not Uber delivery but their very own delivery. The delivery fee was not cheap either. See pics for what I got from their delivery person. Plus there were pieces of egg shells in the bread - wth? Dessert lady you can do better. I’m just very disappointed as I have been ordering their strawberry shortcake since 2013.

It does not get sweeter than Dessert Lady. Set in a beautiful old building the space is so lovely. This is a wonderful place for delicious breakfasts, brunches, lunches and casual dinners. The food is so good and desserts are creative and wickedly wonderful. Do stop in. I am in love with their salads and carrot cake. Please follow @joannasable on instagram for more food fun.

$10-15 plus for a small slice of mediocre cake in a plastic tub out of a fridge served with plastic cutlery and a paper napkin is not how I want to spend my money. Thank you. Better off going to the Cheese Cake Factory. You pay the same but get a much bigger portion with more options, better service and nicer decor.

Absolute love Dessert Lady. It’s tucked away just across Holts. They use to have an older location in yorkville but they’ve moved this building. I always grab my cakes here and enjoy eating at the cafe. The seating is spacious and the menu has a little bit of everything. I would really recommend the buttermilk frosted cakes , it’s really rich but it’s just so good.

Ordered the strawberry shortcake for a birthday. It is the best I have ever tasted in Toronto. It's super light and fluffy, it is not too sweet. You have to experience it for yourself to know, there is no amount of describing that will get it right.

I am a big fan of strawberry shortcake, but theirs was pretty disappointing. I got it for my birthday and the strawberries were not ripe or sweet, so the whole cake tasted super bland and lifeless- with no sweetness to it. Considering the price, I expected them to use quality strawberries! :( This was a very sad birthday cake. :(

Amazing cookies!!! Everything looked beautifully arranged and I’ve heard lots of people recommending the place for birthday cakes and such! The service was gentle and helped me timely. I had the chocolate, banana, walnut cookies and they were too quality. I’ll come again and try the cupcakes cause they looked marvellous.

The flavours are spot on and unique (purple sweet potato?). The macarons are chewy on the inside and have a crunchy shell on the outside. The decorated cakes that they have on display are unique and elaborate! They have options for corporate ordering and the kitchen is open so you can see where the magic happens.

If google map allowed, I would give 10 stars to Dessert Lady team. Tommy and his coworkers are very professional and patient. I communicated with him some general ideas about the cake, and he was able to realize it! The taste (strawberry shortcake as well as brownie flavours) is also amazing. Thanks again.

Absolutely loved their Belgian chocolate mousse cake, very rich in flavor and texture was great. However, can't say the same for their mango dark chocolate and black sesame cake with smoked vanilla custard filling slices, both were not as good as the Belgian chocolate cake one.

Secretly an amazing brunch spot. Not just a bakery or cafe, they meticulously design each plate from their tuna tartare to their curry chicken lettuce wrap. Remember to save room for their cakes cause they are heavenly!

Ordered strawberry short cake for my husband’s bday! It was fresh and nice , not too sweet! Though it took 100$ and I felt it was bit much ! The similar taste and quality can be found with much cheaper option too!

We actually had breakfast, and it was fantastic! Efficient and friendly service, fair prices, and good food and coffees. I sadly didn’t get any of the desserts, so I’ll have to come back next time I’m in Toronto!

Ordered the matcha tiramisu. Cake was yummy and not too sweet. But the cake itself was uneven and not the best looking aesthetically

Bought these cakes from Dessert Lady and can't thank them enough for the yummy cake. The staffs are very friendly. Would recommended to all my friends out there to try this place.

The BEST strawberry shortcake in Toronto. Plus the cafe is tucked away on a peaceful and charming little street away from all the glitzy and loud chaos of the Yorkville area.

I love this place so much. It’s a wonderful place to take a break, just relax and have something sweet. All the staff are very warm, considerate and delightful. Love it!!!

The location is nice, however, the pastry is not so great. Nothing special other than the cute patio.

Their cake was amazing because the cream isn't too sweet so even those who don't like sweet ones would enjoy it.
