BEWARE!!!!! This guy is a crook! Please do not make the mistake we made and use this broker. Last year we found an apartment through destination real estate, and after we signed the lease, and paid first months rent, last month, and the brokers fee, we were told that the apartment we signed and paid for was actually not available, and we had to move into another apartment in the building that was in worse repair. We ended up having to pay for those repairs out of pocket and never moved into the apartment we wanted. (We still live here because halfway through signing the lease, Lawrence threw in the information that we were signing for a 17-month lease, with zero prior discussion. ) Although we ultimately decided that suing would be more trouble than it was worth (I kind of regret that) the lawyer we contacted by pure coincidence has already sued him several times because he commits fraud regularly. Also, for some reason DRE was managing the website our landlord was using for tenants to pay rent. Right after we moved in, he pocketed our neighbors' rent and tried to convince our landlord that our neighbors did not pay that month. Our neighbors had to show our landlord proof that they had paid rent and that Lawrence was the one lying and stealing. He is no longer the broker for our building, but he's still out there committing fraud. Do not give him your money!!! Update: You say here to contact you however our lawyer reached out to you several times about six months ago and of course no one responded. I only wrote this review now because I randomly googled your company name and saw that someone had posted a complaint on Better Business Bureau that you all had taken a $2,000 deposit from someone for an apartment that ultimately was rented to someone else, and never refunded the money to that individual, aka stole money from someone. Obviously I don’t know anything about the situation, but given my own experience, my neighbors experience where Lawrence attempted to literally steal $2,300 rent money from them, any my lawyers personal and professional experience (when we contacted him, by pure coincidence, he has sued DRE on his own behalf as well as for other people) it’s hard not to believe there is truth to this situation. I can’t believe you all are able to run such a crooked organization like this and haven’t lost your license. Moving in with my boyfriend was supposed to be a huge, happy, life changing experience and you stole that from me. You also literally stole several thousands of dollars from me which I paid in brokers fees to live in an apartment I do not live in, and then I had to pay to fix up this other apartment that had an orange and blue kitchen with messed up flooring and a bathroom sink that is basically a tiny cement tub with a plastic hose that dumps into the back of the bathtub. I never would have paid over $3,000 brokers fee for that.

Would give zero stars. RUN FAR AWAY. This is a very shady business, criminal perhaps, although they try their best to give it the feel of legitimacy. Lawrence showed us an apartment that we found on Street Easy. We were pressured many times to provide a full month's rent for deposit to secure a chance at the apartment although it is illegal to charge more than a $20 application fee. I regret that we sent $3000 as a "good faith deposit" because we wanted the apartment so I figured it would be fine. However 24 hours later, and before we were accepted by the landlord, we realized there was no dishwasher in the unit and did not want to rent it. It was a mistake on both sides, although I feel the agent and the listing should have been clearer, but instead of gracefully returning our deposit and offering to help us find a place we like, we learned it was not refundable "under any circumstances." Keeping a deposit when we were only in the application process is fraud, pure and simple. Money was taken as a good faith deposit, but no service was rendered yet they refuse to return it. And it's not a small amount. I was told by Lawrence to write to an office email to request a refund, but no names are provided - all emails are signed "DRE Team." However, Lawrence is listed in New York State as the owner of Destination Real Estate, so it is all dishonest. He acts like he works for "the office," but yet is listed as the owner. There is no transparency and no honesty here - do not use them. When I wrote to say I would be pursuing legal action and reporting them to the State, their email response was: "please be aware that escalating this issue may result in financial implications beyond the forfeiture of the good faith deposit." WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? Fortunately I did not provide my banking information when asked on the application. (Why did they want that, I wondered at the time?) When I wrote back to say I did not appreciate their threat, the response was "We apologize if our previous message came across as threatening, as that was not our intention. We simply wanted to inform you of the potential consequences of escalating this matter." You can see how some very ugly practices lay under the veneer of a civil business. So now we have fraud AND extortion. Check out the other reviews on this business (the positive ones seem manufactured) and save yourself a lot of problems. Plenty of other, honest realtors out there.

STAY AWAY!!!! Hands down the worst experience ive ever had with a NYC real estate agency!! Not sure why they havent updated their address but this location burned down. Surprised? So were my roommate and I when we went to speak to someone in person after getting nowhere with email based communication. Anyways, after handing over almost 11k (the brokers fee alone was 5.5k) we were forced to wait 2 weeks to move in after signing our lease and then arrived to a staged apartment. When we contacted DRE about the furniture and textiles that were in the apartment, they had the audacity to ask us to drive over all of the items to the office and then asked us to walk them to the front door. You would think that after being paid thousands of dollars to merely show us an apartment we found ourselves on streeteasy, they would have picked up their staging materials, especially after having 2 extra weeks to get everything done right? Unfortunately dealing with DRE continued to be a nightmare for the 2 years that we lived in our apartment. The level of miscommunication between DRE, landlords and tenants is embarrassing. We were constantly confused and misinformed about who to contact for apartment related inquiries and getting a hold of anyone in person who could do anything other than take a message was impossible. The only person we could get a hold of was Lawrence who was the broker who originally showed us the apartment and was ultimately one of the reasons we wanted nothing to the with the place anymore. After trying to speak to him about having a roommate abruptly leave, he stated he didnt care and threatened that if the rent wasnt paid by the first of the month, he would "personally make sure all of our credit scores (my roommates, her mothers and mine) were negatively affected". After this we decided to live out our lease and get the hell out of there. We told DRE and our landlord that we wanted no further communication with Lawrence after this interaction, yet to our surprise he was sent by the agency to take pictures of our apartment during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic...I really hope he's learned how to properly wear a mask by now... Bottomline, there are way better brokers and agents in NYC, do yourself the favor and find them instead of settling for DRE.

Beware of the bait and switch!! I feel I was pressured and swindled out of my security deposit by Destination Real Estate. After an apartment showing, I did tell the DRE agent I was interested in the apartment and asked about next steps. He indicated apartment applications are processed in first come, first serve order, but a security deposit was not required to ensure I would be first reviewed. An hour later, I requested the apartment application, completed it quickly and paid the small application fee. Once the application was submitted, the same agent quickly responded in text and then pressured me to provide a security deposit equal to one month's rent to ensure my application would be reviewed first, contradicting what he said two hours prior. I did submit the security deposit as now I was under the impression the rules of the application order had changed. The following day I reconsidered my decision and called DRE to indicate my intentions to not move forward with the application. At that time the application had not been processed, and I requested the security deposit be refunded to me as soon as possible. DRE refused to refund the money despite the money being for a security deposit on an apartment, NOT a several thousand dollar application fee. DRE was nice and helpful before the showing, but once I completed the application, the tone completely changed. I was pressured to submit the security deposit immediately, and they were completely unhelpful when I called to stop the application process and receive my security deposit refund. I even called back 15 minutes later to reiterate my intentions to stop the application process and then, seemingly in a moment's notice, the application review was complete, which in their minds gave them even more reason to not refund my money. This is not a company I recommend doing business with. They have absolutely no problem taking your security deposit. What a scam!

My info is a little outdated, but I feel compelled to share as I am in the process of moving again and can see that the google reviews for management companies are very helpful. I signed for a cute studio apartment thru DRE in South Slope in fall 2019. The building and unit were perfectly fine. Though the washer and dryer in the basement garage at the time were not working properly and it was difficult to communicate with the super. But the communication with the DRE team was pretty frustrating and sometimes not very professional. The broker fee at the time was 2mo rent, which they failed to mention earlier on. When I ended my lease a year later to live with family during the early months of Covid, it took me 2mo of constantly emailing them to ask for my security deposit back. Initially they told me to call a random number with a man’s name I had never heard and said I wouldn’t have direct contact so I should leave a message, which is very strange. Secondly the voicemail didn’t even work, it would shut off after like 10sec. So after 2mo of badgering them directly, they did send me back the security deposit in a very roundabout way. It’s possible their business has become more streamlined since 2019. But it was a very strange and frustrating experience. Again, the unit itself was perfectly fine.

We lived at a location with our lease under DRE for 3 years. Every re-signing was long and drawn out, we changed roommates at one point and they took thousands of dollars from her. They found a way to charge us a brokers fee every single month. During summer of 2020 when we asked questions about ending our lease early we felt threatened and swindled. We never felt comfortable asking questions and they only replied to emails after 3 days and a phone call to their office asking for an answer. I have dealt with a handful of management companies in the city before and this was certainly the worst experience. They will also solicit positive reviews from people which is probably why their rating is so high. Reply to comment: I understand you are not the property management company, you manage the lease and we paid you rent. Today is the fastest I have EVER received a response from you because I threatened to call the BBB but when I had questions about why you were requiring us to pay thousands of dollars you didn't reply for weeks and then skirted around the answers.

After a long bout of trying to find the perfect apartment and constant disappointments, we stumbled upon a listing that was too good to be true by Destination Real Estate. Lawrence (DRE’s main broker) showed us not only this apartment, but 5 others that he felt were a good fit. He was incredibly helpful, understanding, and really cared for what myself and my girlfriend were looking for. His knowledge in terms of the market, and not to mention the plethora of broker exclusive apartments he has, is seriously one of the sharpest (and largest) I’ve seen a broker have; I really felt we were in good hands. I can see why some may not respond well to his old school NYC attitude, but in reality he’s no nonsense and trying to get the ball rolling ASAP for YOU and land you the perfect spot (which we just signed the lease to!!). The DRE team were nothing but communicative, and on top of their game as well. Thank you Lawrence and DRE for helping us find our dream apartment!

So, I was looking for an apartment because we all have to leave our parents house, eventually. So there was a beautiful apartment on Trulia and it was also on FB. So I went to check it out and when the agent Lawrence showed me the place, I thought it was okay but, needed an elevator, parking garage and laundry room. He said he can give me that and took me to a even more beautiful apartment and I fell in love. Today, my fiancé and I have a wonderful place at an amazing neighborhood in Bay ridge. I want to thank him again all he’s done. The process was fast and I was moving in within a week. I trust this place and recommend others to try it out, as well. No, this isn’t a fake review, nor do I have a gun pointed to my head. I see that some people gave negative reviews but, this real estate helped me finally make my first big step. Thank you again Lawrence. He was such a great guy.

I found a listing online and Lawrence showed me an apartment. I gave Lawrence around $2000 in brokers fees. In addition to having me sign a lease, he had me sign a paper with my banking information so that he could withdraw $25 from my checking account every month in perpetuity. He had this paper included with the lease as though it were a part of the lease and mandatory to pay. Destination Real Estate is scamming renters out of extra money every month. I will never work with this company again and do not recommend it. RESPONSE TO OWNER: Of course I used a fake name. I do not trust you and you have some of my personal information. Everything I wrote is true, why waste my own time? My purpose for posting is to protect others from your predatory and illegal methods of doing business.

5 STARS! As I was new to the area, I really didn't know where to start but I sure heard my share of horror stories. Luckily I found Destination Real Estate and avoided one of my own! Every part of the process was well thought out and you could tell that despite being an "older" company they really tried to get with the times by offering stellar options to do everything online. This included video tours that are probably the best I've ever seen, an online application process that was safe and secure, e-signing so I could avoid the print/notarize/scan runaround. And finally, accepting electronic payment so I could avoid going to the bank to get cashier's checks. Turnaround times were quick and I'm really impressed. Would definitely use them again and recommend to others.

Lawrence was incredibly helpful and amazing with helping me get my first apartment! I found a listing StreetEasy.com and I met with Lawrence at the property (he was on time!). He got right to showing me the place. I didn't like that one, so he immediately showed me another place within my budget, bigger than I was expecting, and in my desired location! He introduced me to the landlord, had his office send me the application (which they did within 2 hours!) and I got a deposit down that day. The next day, I signed the lease and the apartment is mine! Everything happened so quickly, which I really needed, and I couldn't be happier. Lawrence is so helpful, quick, and friendly and I'm very pleased. By the way -- the DRE office staff is so fast and helpful!

They were pretty thorough at first but the guy they dispatched to show me the apartment was really creepy. He wouldn't meet me at the designated place the pharmacy and instead had me come to a different address near the one I asked to see. When we started to enter the new address he went forward without telling me why. When we got to the apartment and I saw it was totally different I asked where we were going and he replied "come Inside the apartment please I don't want to talk in the hallway" . It was really suspect and sketchy the way he deflected all my questions. I told him I wasn't following him into a place I didn't know and turned around. He yelled "hellooooo" after me but did not apologize. The whole thing was shady I would think twice

When I initially started my search, I was primarily working on my own terms, sprawling across Streeteasy trying to find a unit that fit me, and it was such a struggle as every place I found just didn't fit what I was looking for, or if it did, it was at a much higher cost than I could afford. I happened across a listing from Destination Real Estate, and while the unit that I saw that day was not quite what I wanted, Lawrence was able to show me a unit the same day that not only fit what I wanted but exceeded my expectations. I went ahead and put in an application the very same day and was able to get the unit I was looking for. Big shout out to Lawrence for being very helpful throughout the process and being on top of everything!

My experience with Destination has been very good. I recently moved back to NY after a year away. For as excited as I was to move back I dreaded the apartment search knowing how hard it is to find a decent place here. I found their videos particularly helpful in getting an accurate feel for their places. They were prompt and very professional helping me complete all the needed paperwork despite me still being cross country. Last, upon moving in to the new place I had a couple of requests (which were above and beyond what you could really expect from a realtor) and they were very patient and indeed did deliver. I'm happy with my place and feel that it was my easiest moving experience in NY.

i’ve spent this month looking for and getting into a commercial space for a new cafe i’m opening. working with lawrence was super chill and i most appreciated his promptness and consistency with communication. other brokers i’ve worked with in the past have taken forever to get me answers and have been very opaque with information. i know that lawrence is the middle man and sometimes the owner and landlord were a bit slow to the uptake, but at every step i knew what was going on and what i could expect when. i think we got some favourable concessions from the landlord and i’ll certainly recommend destination in the future for folks needing to get a space.

These guys are reputable and get the job done. I had not rented in NY before this and Lawrence helped me through the process. I did most of the process over the phone and email. My one qualm is that some of the time when I was asked to perform the next step of the rental process, things were not explained clearly. Once I moved in Lawrence continued to help me even though his job was already done. The super at the apartment was sick but he continued to mediate things to get my shower fixed. The bottom line is I am very happy with my apartment which is in my ideal location, and I am glad I trusted DRE to get the job done for me.

I have Been with destination real estate for going on two years now . My wife and I are in our second apartment with the leasing company. Lawrence and all the staff at destination real estate are kind, respectful, and responsive for whenever something is needed. The properties are kept in good condition, joel ( the grounds keeper) is great and will respond to any needs almost immediately. As far as leasing companies/ property management companies in the Brooklyn area Destination real Estate is one of the best. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a good leasing company and quality apartments.

These people are the worst. The apartments are nice but they are dishonest, attempt to add fees, and flat out lie to you in violation of NYC housing laws. I have over a decade’s worth of experience with them in a single unit and I cannot recall a single good interaction I’ve had with them. Read your lease carefully and never listen to what they say. Edit: They are the ones who handle the contracts and lie about things like additional prepaid last month based on rent increases in the intervening time (not legal) as well as requiring electronic auto payment (not legal). I was living upstate when I got an offer for a job that wanted me to start soon. I immediately started looking for studios and felt very overwhelmed. The best deal was for a room in Windsor Terrace advertised by Destination Real Estate. When I requested an appointment they were very responsive and organized. The real estate agent, Lawrence, was exceptional. He was very personable, trustworthy, and understanding of my situation. It was a real pleasure to be able to meet him. I'm genuinely glad he brokered my move in. I would recommend him and Destination Real Estate to anyone looking for a place to live.

Wow, I’m seriously impressed by Lawrence! I have been looking for a new place about 6 months now, dealing with brokers who don’t respond or listen. Not here!! Lawrence showed me a bunch of places after carefully listening to what I wanted and my budget. He was quick, efficient and most of all very friendly. With in 24 hours I found my new apartment and we agreed on everything before signing. I was supplied clear, detailed directions for credit check, deposit, documents requested and next steps. Signing was seamless and exactly what we agreed on a day before. Don’t waste your time anywhere else!!

My experience with DRE is a mixed bag. During the leasing process, my roommates and I found them to be unfriendly and difficult to speak with. Now that we are in the place, everything runs smoothly and they are fairly responsive when we reach out. My roommates and I haven't had any negative experiences with them since signing the lease, and have even been helped when one of us lost their keys and the office was open and able to let my roommate into the apartment. We did resign the lease with them, which was much simpler and upfront the second time around, so that speaks for something I think.

They represent many great properties for good rates and are very professional in running their business. However, they are not above using deceit as a business strategy. They are not accountable for any agreements made or information exchanged verbally. I was shown a few apartments and was told that they are available to rent without a broker fee. When I went to submit my deposit, I learned that I actually had to pay a broker fee, only after I asked to double-check. Make sure your agreements can be backed up in writing before you pay them anything.

I was looking for an apartment with no success, then I found Destination Real Estate. A person named Lawrence helped me through the process of finding a place. We walked through the apartment and every question I asked was met with a proper answer for my concerns. Lawrence was extremely knowledgeable and was beyond helpful. All proper precautions were in place as well, due to the pandemic. I am extremely satisfied with my apartment and how seamless the whole thing was. I couldn't ask for anything more. I recently worked with Steve and Dre for an apartment I was interested. Unfortunately, I did not proceed with them because an opportunity came up that was time sensitive and I could not refuse. Throughout the process, Steve was attentive and professional. Any questions or concerns I had Steve was right there. Long overdue review. Stay away!!! These guys are scammers and EXTREMELY difficult to deal with. My roommate and I thought they were nice at first but they definitely proved us wrong - we even had to get our lawyer involved. Definitely go with another broker if you can!!!!
