There's a lot to love about Dinnerly, but it depends on what your goals are. Pros: Truly delicious, impressively affordable price point, will get you out of any cooking rut, convenient delivery. Cons: The recipes are considerably more elaborate than our usual cooking, which takes time and tools, and creates quite a few dirty dishes. Now, the upside of this con is that it's what makes the food really tasty! These are seriously among the best homecooked meals I've ever eaten. But mainly *our* goals were fast and easy at a reasonable price. Reasonable price--yes. Fast and easy--not terrible but not meeting our goals. We're more like one-pan casserole folks over here. Dinnerly has had us make our own tahini sauce, shave parmesan, zest lemons, toast rice with chopped parsley and garlic. We end up with several dirty mixing bowls, grater, pans, cutting boards. For our family, this is a better take-out replacement for weekends, than a meal solution for weeknights. We might need to check out the ready-made meals. Another suggestion: could you choose your challenge level and settle for less delicious but easier? If we get around to reordering the same meals again, we'd mod them on our own to our own preferences. I recommend scheduling delivery for a weekend because it could come absolutely any time during the day and naturally it has to sit outside until you get home from work, which can be stressful on a hot day, even though the packaging is very good. I worry about the meats when temps are in the 80's-90's. One complaint--we have repeatedly forgotten to select the next week's meals and remembered too late, so that's one reason the recipes are not necessarily the best fit for us. Am I missing an email when it's time to select? Could I get a text reminder? This would be a big help in having a good experience. All the emails I seem to get are solicitations to share with friends, the notification when the box is on its way, and the request for feedback, which is how I ended up here!
Tried their new client deal which was a great price but that is it… The food is bad! We got molded 1lbs of green beans (had to go buy new ones ourselves) and a rotten lemon (had to buy another one). The meat leaked fluids alllllll over our fridge and onto the floor. The steak was the WORST cut of meat we have ever eaten. It was straight up gristle and literally impossible to eat! And my husband only cooked it rare so you KNOW it is bad if rare meat is so tough you cannot even chew it! I am NOT a picky eater AT ALL. They gave us like a $6 refund for the beans and lemon, but it is applied to the next box which we won’t be ordering. Hellofresh gave you an immediate refund of your ENTIRE box if something was wrong! The food is so bland it is frustrating. You dump the entire packet of seasoning and still have no taste. We made their garlic aioli (mayo, lemon juice, and garlic powder) and per their directions it was soooo bad! It was straight up only mayo (1/4 cup) with 1 tsp of lemon juice and “pinch” of garlic powder. We dumped in the packet of garlic and half a lemon and it still tasted only like mayo. It makes me wonder what on earth are in the seasoning packets! The directions are meh and online (Hellofresh gives you actual recipe cards you can keep). The cost savings of Dinnerly boxes (and Everyplate is the same too so don’t use them) is not worth the terrible quality and rotten, bland food. If you order, do NOT get steaks (same for Everyplate). Turkey and chicken are their better meats.
They just recently added recipe cards, which makes prepping the meal much easier. Unfortunately those cards don't include pictures of the steps, which I've found with other services makes following the instructions more understandable. I'm expected to have more ingredients on hand than other meal prep services, so I have to keep and extra eye out on recipies. The ingredients come scrambled together, so I need to leave room in the fridge to store the box lids the stuff comes in, and sort it each time I cook. (I tried this service while being unable to drive with a broken leg, so ingredients not being grab & go makes this more tedious compared to other services.) The recipe flavors are alright. They always look really interesting from the pictures, and I've been super excited to try things that are culturally a bit different, but the recipes just end up a bit bland or samey tasting. Dinnerly has some obsession with using vinegar in every recipe, so I imagine this is partially why. The portions also come out pretty small. I haven't had a "bad" experience with the company itself, though one of the delivery drivers threw the box of food at the apartment wall in between our units while I was watching, at like 7:30am? But the price vs. quality just leaves some things to be desired for me.
I am a huge fan of Dinnerly! The only problem I've had is that the meals are a bit bland but that's easy to fix because most of the spices come from my own cabinet so I can easily adjust things. I love that sauces and such are NOT pre-mixed because if I like it, I can make it on my own later without having to try to backwards engineer it. The app is great because it makes it very easy to see what meals are coming up and to change what meals I'll be getting. The only change I would make to the app is to have the ability to add *and delete* meals on the same screen. It took me while to figure out that I had to go to the last step to take a meal *off* of my list. I chose Dinnerly because the price is about the same as picking up fast food but it's much healthier which is exactly what I want: inexpensive and healthier than what I was doing before. Food has always been fresh and packed well. I do suggest heeding their advice and doing seafood within a day or two, chicken within a few days, and pork/beef will last the longest before needed to be cooked. Dinnerly is helping me realize that it *is* possible to cook good meals in an hour or less without a lot of stress and without a lot of mess.
Dinnerly offers tasty recipes that I have been making (and teaching my kids to make) for several months now. The highs: the food is fresh and tastes very good, the recipes are generally moderate to easy to prepare, Dinnerly doesn't nickel and dime you like Hello Fresh (HF) for anything slightly more interesting (i.e. steak, fish), their selection of options at no extra cost is MUCH better than HF, and there's very little waste. The lows: Dinnerly has had multiple issues with delivery (boxes come late too often), they don't provide recipe cards (HF has nice color ones in the box) you need to print your own, They don't separate your individual meals in little bags like HF (a nice little convenience), Customer service is very mediocre, but will generally give you a credit if somethings not right, finally Dinnerly is more likely to expect you to have little things like garlic cloves, that HF simply provides. Obviously, I have tried other meal kits (HF) and Dinnerly isn't quite as nice, but the price is $25/week less and that makes it a better value proposition that keeps me coming back. They offer MANY more options and don't try to squeeze more money out of you at every turn.
Dinnerly is my favorite meal kit & what I've chosen to stick with. They're affordable without sacrificing quality. The food is legit restaurant quality for cheaper. I checked, and I literally have 51 meal options this week, so clearly they have a large variety of choices. Their options are diverse and more creative than just pork + veggie. They have very healthy options & comfort food options, as well as dishes that are both. They have unqiue foreign dishes as well as well-known homey dishes. I especially recommend their Chicken Chilaquiles Verde, it tasted AMAZING and was ultra easy to make. No problems except 2 small missing items which they refunded me for immediately as credit, no hassle. The recipes are easy & fun to make. Overall I'm super happy with Dinnerly and I would recommend them to anyone who wants to learn to cook delicious healthy meals. I can get 3 meals of 4 servings for around $80. Think about it, thats a pretty good price for restaurant quality food, plus I sometimes have leftovers & I'm learning all these great recipes at the same time. The only thing I dislike is they don't have recipe cards, but I think they may offer cards as an option soon.
The food and recipes are literally the same as other high priced meal delivery but without the fussy packaging and colorful expensive recipe cards. They provide excellent fresh, safely packaged ingredients but protect the environment with their packaging choices. Recipes are available at your fingertips at the website and can be accessed online or printed for your convenience. You receive frequent reminders to update your meal choices before delivery. You are given the opportunity to track your deliveries. They are highly responsive to questions and concerns. I had an issue the first delivery when the delivery guy left my food in the blazing sun when I was at work. They apologized and offered my next delivery for free to replace what I lost. It turned out not to be their fault. If you want your packages placed in a specific location, like your garage for instance, they will write that on the label. However, you will need to actually address that with fed ex directly, as they don't read the labels. Contact fed ex and they will put your request into their handheld computer. I have nothing but good things to say about this company.
Terrible all around experience. First box was 24 hours late and 100% thawed. Box was falling apart and soggy. Green onions were slimy and disgusting, red peppers had moldy and soft spots. One carton of tofu was ripped open and tofu juice was all over the contents of the box. All three reusable ice bags were no longer frozen. Was billed for my SECOND box before I had even gotten the first box! Tried to contact the company 3 different times/ways, and radio silence from customer service for all 3. Asked to reverse the 2nd box charges, got no response. Asked to refund first box, got no response. Terrible customer service and I would never purchase from them again. Go with a more reputable meal service. Anything has to be better than this! Update 5/16/23: Opened a PayPal dispute over 3 weeks ago and have gotten no response from Dinnerly. Second box I received against my wishes had sauce packets ripped open and the box was a sticky mess. SO both boxes I received were awful, and not a peep from customer service to remedy the problem. STAY AWAY from this company!!!!
Overall, there are some good recipes to choose from...a little more diverse than some of the other food delivery services we've done before. My biggest complaint, to date, with this delivery service is that they consistently keep sending the wrong cut of chicken when I get recipes containing chicken. This has happened many times over the 3 months we've been using them. Any other recipes not requiring chicken, have been correct. I also don't like the fact that I either have to print out the recipes or use my cell phone, which has the app on it, to view the steps for making the recipes. Lastly, they use a separate open box tray inside the main box for the ingredients and then the meat is below it with the ice packs. Every time I've opened the box, almost all of the ingredients have been found all over the main box and not in the tray they're supposed to be in. Short of these few things, we have enjoyed more diverse recipes than some of the others and the cooking steps are a little less too.
Update: Well, my love affair with Dinnerly is over. After the introductory boxes, twice I have had delivery problems. In one box, the chicken was slimy. The shrimp were the consistency of firm gel, void of a shrimp texture. I really had high hopes for this service but alas! it always ends up that you get what you pay for. (I have received the introductory boxes and I found the food to be surprisingly good. I am pretty picky about quality, freshness and portion sizes and I found that all met my standards. I would have tweeked the 3 out of 6 recipes a bit with only minor adjustments and I mentioned those in my review. Produce is fresh and sometimes they send portions for the 4 person meal which is nice. Meats are fresh and tasty, albeit, I would recommend rinsing before prep. Precooked items, perfect. So far, my favorite is the Italian Wedding Soup and the Steak dishes but again, all were quite good and for the price of a junk food meal at a drive up, I can eat delish, fresh food instead.)
Dinnerly is fairly easy to set up and order. 3 meals a week and each for 2 People. Menu is limiting but easy to prepare. Great for a 20 something who is short on time. There aren’t many fish or shellfish options. Deliveries have been okay. A few times they have left on stoop of busy apt bldg in NYC. It’s not what I requested. I’ve had two occasions where items were missed or damaged which isn’t bad. This last time the main ingredient shrimp, was omitted. This made it impossible to make the dish, I was credited $7 and the rest of the ingredients didn’t make a Meal. I also paid $11.99 shipping. Basically a meal I paid for but couldn’t make. This is a big miss in my opinion. Their solution wasn’t acceptable. I’ve used Blue apron and their solution for mess ups is full refund. Sounds like better solution and that’s why I end up with them more times than not.
Will never be ordering again. The instructions are often unclear and the food is bland. Literally most things are only seasoned with salt and pepper and we had to add our own seasonings to make anything have flavor. We love Hello Fresh and try these competitors occasionally just to see what else is out there and our favorite thing with them is the fun seasoning to try out and the cuts of meat are prime. With these people, the meat was just straight up BAD. We got a steak meal and my jaw was sore by the time I was done with a 6 or 8 ounce piece of steak, when normally I'm a 26-32 ounce ribeye kind of guy. The only reason I'd give them one star over zero is the entry price, 16 servings of food for $40 isn't bad at all if you can stomach the food.
So far I have received 2 boxes for 4 people/3 meals and both have been good. The first box my son and I enjoyed, although it’s just the 2 of us the goal was to have leftovers for lunch-which it does for a family of 4 I think it’s enough for 1 meal no leftovers. My only downside has been the pasta dishes with sauce the sauce is minimal so if you like having “saucier” pasta add extra water, also in the second box both my pasta and sauce were opened. I was created $8 but we lost a whole sauce pack. The recipes are super easy to follow and the only thing you need that isn’t sent is usually oil, red or white wine vinegar, salt and pepper. We will keep trying some recipes but I like this over Hello Fresh!
Dinnerly is a great alternative for those who don't love going to the grocery store or meal-planning and/or have the time to do so. They offer SO many meal options that are sure to please the whole family. It's fairly affordable in comparison to other meal-delivery subscriptions. My only hiccup is that the time our box is delivered on our assigned day is always dropped off at various times, sometimes before 6pm & other times not until 9pm or later, but I know that is an issue with their shipping partner & not Dinnerly itself. Overall, we have been very happy with this service & we would recommend it to anyone who is looking for easy dinner meals that don't require much work.
Dinnerly is a fantastic yet affordable meal service. Fresh ingredients, easy to prepare, wide variety of meal options. I have tried several other meal services which were all pretty good. But Dinnerly makes the convenience affordable. I won't call out the other service but for about $76.00 I can get 6 meals for 2 with Dinnerly and could only get 3 meals from the other service for $78.00. Dinnerly boxes are well packed with Ice packs and insulation. They are not wasteful like some other services with paper menu cards and excess packaging. If you are looking for a meal service that is yummy, keeps dinner interesting and doesn't break the bank, give Dinnerly a try.
I love Dinnerly‼️ been with them for 3 years now. I have tried them all, and Dinnerly has the best prices and choices.( More salads) ❤️❤️❤️ Easy to make and my kids and even husband enjoy cooking with me often. The only thing, if I had to pick something is that I have to print out recipes, because I’m older and can’t look at them on the screen while cooking. That being said I print each recipe on both sides of the paper and attach to reusable bag with tape before I put it in fridge. I wish I could pay a couple dollars more and be able to choose a printed recipe card with my order. Best company ever‼️
I’ve used numerous meal delivery services for a while now. While I do like the quality of the ingredients from Dinnerly, the ease of the recipes and overall variety, I do not particularly like the QUANTITY of food. There are some recipes where 2 small russet potatoes are meant to feed a family of 4. This might be a great, affordable in comparison deal to other meal delivery services, I think it might just a deal breaker for me. If you have any children over the age of 8 in the household and especially if they are boys, I can’t tell you with certainty that you will be going hungry!
Be careful! I didn't know you could see the menus without putting in your info. I immediately canceled my subscription within minutes. I ended up receiving a box and was charged over $80! If you order online you have to call to actually cancel the order! Can't do it online! As to the meals I received, other than saving me from going into a store, it saved me zero time and effort. You still have to cook, wash, shuck corn husks, chop etc. The food I got was twice the cost of having it delivered by insta cart abs the produce was substandard. What's the point? Lesson learned...
My family of 3 has been using Dinnerly as our only meal kit service for about 18 months. We use the 4 person plan which provides large enough portions to leave us satisfied and is usually enought to have left over for a lunch. In the 18 months we have been using Dinnerly, we only missed 1 box due to a shipping error and have always had excellent customer service if there have been concerns about the quality of an item, which only occurred once. I recommend Dinnerly to everyone, it is the first and only meal kit company I've used. We have not been disappointed.
Dinnerly is the best meal prep delivery box I have ever used, and I've tried so many! They have an amazing selection of recipes that cater to sooo many dietary needs. I love that they keep some of my favorites in rotation but also have some really interesting new recipes that I can try. I've never had any issues with delivery where other companies wouldn't help when something was broken in transit or even went bad. Dinnerly always shows their dedication by providing the best quality ingredients. I'm so impressed with their essay to follow directions also!
The food arrives well packaged and cold. I’ve received beautiful looking produce and very good quality ingredients. They suggest a recommended box each order but you can choose from a bigger menu to really get what you want. Ordering Dinnerly has been a huge help when I’m often short on time to prep and cook. 5 days worth of 2-serving meals plus shipping costs the same as if we ate at a restaurant for one meal. I love cooking and often use fresh ingredients and avoid most processed foods, so these kits are a welcome addition to our meal rotation.
I am in love with the convenience and quality of this plan. It saves me about $500 per month on groceries. It has taught me what suddenly cooking for 2 instead of 150 looks like (lol empty nester) it really is a wonderful surprise how much I love it. Highly recommend! The picture is the Thai lemongrass chicken with jasmine rice and cucumber peanut salad. My husband's favorites far. He loves the Halal chicken as well. These are things we would have never put together.
Lovely easy recipes. We struggled to cook new recipes on our own and we arnt picky eaters. These meals have given us more variety and fun for dinner time as well as being healthier. We order 6 meals a week just finished the first week. Loved them all but one I thought could have more flavor. Left my review and CS got back to me and was helpful. Now we only order here and don’t need to go to the store. Especially helpful since we had been sick the that’s two weeks.
I've been using Dinnerly for almost a year now & Love it! It's more affordable than the other meal plan boxes. The meals are delicious with high quality ingredients. The recipes are easy to make with most being 6 ingredients or less & little prep time(I do Not have time to be chopping stuff for 30mins before I even start to cook) and you get to choose from a very large menu every week. If your looking for a meal delivery box, I highly recommend trying Dinnerly!
I like being able to choose or edit the choices selected for me. On occasin I have been disappointed in the quality of the meat, but overall the chicken and pork are good choices. I particularly appreciate the small quantities of spices that I seldom use. I don't order all the time because I like to do my own cooking and because my husband doesn't care for anything unusual or out of the ordinary. We are seniors and that probably explains his appetite!
I have tried more than 6 different meal kits. Dinnerly is in the top 2, price is part of that equation as they are on the lower end, and taste is the other part. It's consistently decent food, steak/seafood is not really worth it though - other than when sirloin is included, the steaks are not worth the upgrade price. Seafood is suspect, but fresh seafood is not going to come in a box. Still a good choice that's consistent
We just started Dinnerly after trying a few other meal delivery options, and honestly they are the best overall! Dinnerly has tons of options each week, and all are restaurant quality. We’re eating things every night of the week that I’ve never had before! The recipes are easy to follow and fun to make. They pack your food every week so nicely too! I love everything about them!
Love this program! Food is good quality, recipes are tasty and simple, and the price is hard to beat in this economy. I have used them for a couple of years and would highly recommend this is you have a smaller family to feed or a single person looking to stretch your budget and have dinners delivered with the flexibility to tweak the recipe to your liking.
I love my Dinnerly!! I have been using this service for a while and truly enjoy the food and convenience! The menu is diverse and friendly to all cooking levels. I have tried other mal subscriptions and have not been as satisfied as I am with Dinnerly. I have my Thanksgiving meal planned using the yummy options they offer. I recommend you give them a try!!
We love the meals, they are delicious. However, I have a family of 5 so I don't get as many meals as I would like. I need to purchase 2 of each meal so that I have enough portions but don't need 8 servings. I would love an option for a family of 6 or to add 1 or 2 portions to an order, rather than another 4. I'd be able to order a bigger variety that way.
All food products arrive cold and fresh. I have tried other meal services and Dinnerly is by far the best - from meal selection, portion sizes, taste to on time delivery. I am on a weight loss journey, and the Healthy choice selection have been fantastic . All nutrition information is provided at meal selection. Great tasting too!
I'm not anemic, and that is incredibly unusual for me! Even multivitamins don't perk me up this much- I definitely think it's the healthy meals getting delivered to my home that's made such a difference. My special needs toddler enjoys the meals, too. We never have leftovers. I may need to place bigger orders and buy bigger pans.
Absolutely love the dinner options - so many to choose from, something for everyone. Packaging/shipping has been great and the meals are delicious and simple to cook. The only thing I don't like is the lack of physical recipe cards - you have to view instructions on the app and I don't like having my phone around while cooking.
Every meal that I have picked has turned out to be delicious. This is so much easier than trying to decide what to cook, which ended being the same thing over and over, and grocery shopping. It's cheaper too and I am not throwing away food. I had concerns about the volume of food but it is plenty but I never have left overs.
Chicken, pork, seafood, and vegan meals are delicious. The ingredients are good quality and the recipes are easy to follow. The beef is okay but needs to be marinated or it is too tough. The packaging of the food is excellent. I usually 3 and sometimes 4 servings out of each recipe that is intended for 2 so that is a bonus.
We’ve done a bunch of meal services but hands down love Dinnerly the best. We love the wide range in vegetarian and chicken options as our family doesn’t eat much beef and pork. Even when forgetting to select meal the options picked are amazing and meet our dietary restrictions. Good produce and great price for the value.
Dinnerly has made my life so much easier! I choose the meals, they send the ingredients! The box is well packaged and the contents are fresh and COLD. I get dinner for 2 people for 4 days without going to the grocery store for about $70 per week. The food is ready to cook and very good!! Worth the money for us!
Meals are tasty. Trying to find more creative ways to eat vegetables. Had a shipping issue on first order that caused product to be damaged. I filled out the email where they ask for feedback and they fixed my issue the same day. No hassles or questions. Great customer support and I like their app.
My only issue is the box delivery/shipping notifications. It would be so much better if a reminder to choose recipes was sent out. There have been a couple times I forgot to check in time and I was shipped food we won’t eat. Our last box for example only had one of three that we actually used.
If you’re looking for a good value, this is the right choice! Nice quality for the price level and their less fattening options keep me coming back to Dinnerly. Yes, there are higher quality/fancier options, but the prices can go way up! Dinnerly is a great compromise for people like me.
So delighted to find decent vegan options at a meal service. Not just the usual 12,000 ways to eat chickpeas but they include my favorite brand of plant-based protein, Daring. The meals are easy, tasty, andthe packaging isn't so incredibly cumbersome as some other meal services
The food is usually very fresh, easy to follow recipes. We only had something open and contaminate things once, and they very quickly made it right. The price is just a touch high for us in general, but when we need something easier and the recipes look good, I'll order again.
There are some really cool recipes! They use less plastic than some of the other companies. You do not get printed recipe cards which is very annoying to me. There are also no pictures on the recipe instructions online, which as a visual learner is sometimes difficult.
So far so good, all the meals have been easy to prepare and taste fantastic. Already excited about next weeks order! I did have a concern on my very first order but Dinnerly staff got back to me right away and answered my question all was well.
We received our first Dinnerly box and it was better than expected! The shrimp bake in foil was amazing! We are now on week 3 of our Dinnerly subscription and we have Tuesday as our delivery date but every week thus far we have received an
The quality and freshness of the ingredients Dinnerly sends are excellent - even better than most of what we get in the stores. The flavors of the meals are a hit with my whole family, even my kids. Try Dinnerly. You'll be glad you did! :)
Dinnerly is more than a plate of food, it’s an experience, an opportunity to learn different recipes and flavors, to get your family excited about dinner time again, spending time with your love one creating an exciting plate of food. It
I like the recipes. They've helped me try new things, and I'm enjoying learning how to cook. Most of what I've made has tasted good. However, the produce spoils FAST. You have to make everything within about 3 days of getting the box or
So far I’ve had 2 boxes. The meals were good but I don’t like how I have to scavenge to find what I need. Unlike other companies that come with each meal in a bag. I prefer that. It’s easier but I did like how neat it was in the box and
This meal delivery service is quite affordable but of course you do get what you pay for. Many of the recipes are pretty basic & heavy on carbs - ie. meat/potatoes/veg or simple pasta/rice based dishes. Personally I like a meal kit that
We've had a really tough time with Dinnerly. Our first box came with 2 of the 4 meat packages sliced open and it had leaked everywhere. So gross. I used the Dinnerly app to try and contact customer service, show the pictures of the cut
The first two deliveries were fantastic. Loved the variety. Then deliveries were delayed up to 4 days. Ingredients would be ruined by the time it got to me. Dinnerly did refund me but with 3/5 of my boxes being delayed….unacceptable!!!
The recipes and flavor profiles are definitely better than other meal kits (like Every Plate). It probably costs a little more than getting my own groceries, but I'm hooked on the convenience and tasty meals.
Amazing selection! Plenty of vegetarian options. Highly recommend. However, BEWARE of TOFU dishes!! Every box I've had with tofu, the tofu seal popped open and the juice from the tofu gets EVERYWHERE!
I love Dinnerly. I get to cook more with my busy schedule because of their service. Food is quality - sometimes better than my local grocery - and the recipes are easy and my kids love them!
Every meal has been so delicious and my kids love them too! Also, I always have left overs so the portions are a great size for a family of 5! I would recommend it to anyone.
Dinnerly has great choices on meals. I like finding lower sodium, heart healthy meals. A little difficult to change meal selections but otherwise a great service.
I have only gotten my first box, and prepared my first meal. I was impressed with how easy it was to put together. Also it was generous portions.
Fresh and delicious meals of my choosing delivered to my door. Easy prep, great prices with no waste. I love cooking with Dinnerly.
