Came by Double Decker for dinner with a couple of friends on a Weekday evening. Based on the photos previously it seems like a small place but is in an interesting spot. Spotted beside a hotel, it has not a lot of seating. It appears to serve some of the basic options which are done well. Ended up going with some friends to get their different types of wings and ended up getting their Sweet Chili, Teriyaki, Garlic and their Medium wings with a side of their fries. Sweet Potato Fries - More of an average cut. With a right amount of texture and crisp outside. Medium Spicy Wings - Not too spicy as other places would call it. More of a mild spice when referencing to a typical sports bar Buffalo wing and more comparable to the spiciness out of a mild Thai entree. Garlic Wings - Very crispy and very prominent flavor of garlic. Has kind of the profile of pesto when it comes to dryness of the garlic. Overall excellent. Sweet Chili - Very saucy and flavorful wing. The sauce reminds me of the Thai Sweet Chili sauce used for egg rolls and other fried foods. Simple, but tastes very sweet with an extremely light sense of heat from the chili. Teriyaki - Good based sauce that resembles Teriyaki well. Especially if you enjoy Teriyaki sauce and wings, this would be for you. Overall I would recommend this place as it is pretty reasonable for prices for wings and provides other essentials such as burgers, and fries at a decent price. They also have a Happy Hour between 3-6PM here.
Odd pricing mechanics, over priced but the fries are good? Impossible Burger with cheese, sweet potato fries, and a bottle of water for 23 dollars. Yup. You read that correctly. Nothing special about any ingredient either. Their bun, for example, is a run of the mill white fluffy bun. One annoyance: regular fries 2.95. Sweet potato? 3.95. That is a dollar difference. But if you buy a burger which comes with fries and want to upgrade to sweet potato it’s 2 dollars? Makes no sense other than to implement a subtle overcharge for unsuspecting customers. Also, don’t walk into here with a smile and expect anything from anyone. I saw countless people say thank you and everyone who worked here’s face was reminiscent of professor snape. That’s fine since there’s no requirement that hole in the walls be nice and cheery but just a heads up that they will sell you a 25 dollar burger which is average to good and then pretend you don’t exist. Sweet potato fries are good though. Just wish I wasn’t overcharged for them. I also asked for a side of 1000 and it’s an extra dollar. Three teaspoons max, one dollar. Mmhmm. That’s what this place is like.
So I've been here enough times to try different items and I'm kind of disappointed. The sweet potato fries are probably their best item and the Mitchell's ice cream they carry but the burgers are, honest to God, awful. I've tried the fish burger and the Hawaiian one. Today, I ordered the Hawaiian burger expecting something savory, but I'm pretty sure the pineapple had gone bad already. I bit into the burger and was immediately repulsed by the spoiled pineapple and to make matters worse, there was a bug inside the wrapper. I couldn't even eat half (after tossing out the pineapple, the burger was still not salvageable) and it is unfortunate because the burgers are not cheap

So so disappointing. If I'm going to ingest a bunch of grease I want it to at least be good and satisfying. Fries were grease sops with absolutely no flavor. All I could taste was grease. You know the yellowish part of your fries that is crisper where the grease has really soaked in. At double decker this was the whole fries. I was going to have a vege burger until I saw the costco bag of cheap vege patties. I went for the chicken instead. At least it wasn't greasy but it was entirely flavorless. Decor didn't help. Just a bunch of greasy dirty used restaurant items crammed in the little space. This is the 3rd of iteration of restaurant that I've been to in this spot (I've been going here since it was an Italian place in the early-90's) and this is by far the worst.
Food was decent (ordered tater tots and macaroni salad). Saw the food of other patrons, and it did look delicious. Food prices were also reasonable, especially since I was just looking for a snack before a meeting. Removing 1 star for rude customer service (seems like the people who work there are having a bad day) and a 2nd star for, as someone else put it, place needs a makeover, makeover (in my case) meaning clean it up. Went to go to the bathroom upstairs and the mop bucket and all the mops were blocking the staircase (not the only cleaning that needed to be done).

Ate here on 1.28.2023. Got the Double Decker burger, 6 wings of Spicy Korean flavor, vanilla milkshake, and onion rings. The milkshake was mediocre. It didn't have a rich creamy texture or vibrant sweetness to it. The onion rings were fine. The burger was okay, but I expected more for a $10 burger. The wings were not enjoyable to eat. The Spicy Korean flavor was too salty and the wings were just soggy and not appetizing to eat. I think for the price I paid, I expected higher quality of food. I could have gotten amazing wings at Bonchon for a cheaper price. I won't be coming here again.

Bunked in next to a Days Inn, you'd never expect this burger joint to turn out such good burgers. They have a limited menu (Burgers, Wings, Salads, and sides) but what do you expect from a hole in the wall. The funny thing is that there is actually a second floor of seating if you want a pseudo-birds-eye-view of Grove street while you eat. The burgers are pretty darn good, they aren't the absolute best, but if it's a quick burger and beer you're looking for, Double Decker is your spot. I personally recommend the Western Burger if you like BBQ and Bacon.
Took a few days more after xmas and went straight to DD after a meeting nearby. This place is just perfect for a quick bite and nothing more. Middle-aged asian couple with cheery smiles, but all business when it comes to orders. If you get here before 11:30am you'll get a seat inside. Texas burger is just average, but was tall and stacked perfectly. Patty was cooked medium-rare with some pink showing. Potato salad wasn't was home-made and tasted definitely store bought in large volume bucket or tubs. That's all.
Double decker is a really tasty local burger joint. It's not fine dinner, it's just good, honest food. The second story dining room is really cool! The double decker burger is on par with super duper. The wings are also really good. The buffalo wings are not spicy. The pricing is very reasonable, much cheaper than the places over on Hayes.

I have been here a few times when I'm working in the area and they're good food at decent prices always brings me back. The menu is limited and the food is cooked to order, so if you are in a rush, call ahead. The location is a bit weird because before the condos next door, there was a parking lot so the upstairs seating area afforded views of Gough. Now it's a cool quirky hole in the wall, great for a no frills lunch. I just wish they offered a combo or at least threw in fries with the burger.
The place is a bit dirty and old, there was no way I was going to dine in. I ordered tater tots, onion rings, a Hawaiian burger and an original burger- both burgers were stinking weird for some reason, cheese was gross, veggies dint seem fresh at all, the burgers make me and my friend almost puke. avoid this place if possible, it is cheap tho

Wow, this place surprised me in a good way! Outside and even inside it looks like nothing to be honest but I ordered food to go and pleased all. I recommend the Hawaiian burger with pineapple if you're in the mood to mix it up. The South Western burger with avocado and cheese also looked scrumptious. The french fries are thick and the onion rings although not the best flavor were hot and good. Reasonably priced, burgers ranged from $7-$10. Great place for a quick bite!
If you want a super delicious Acai Bowl this is the place to go! They also have poke bowls and juices as well. I tried "these nuts" Acai bowl and it was so good! I really liked how it wasn't super sweet but all the flavors were still there. I went there again today for the "Original Gangster" and I love it! It truly does have everything in an OG Acai Bowl! Everything is super fresh and the overall bowl is just so refreshing and filling.
Burger was delicious, but I wanted fries with my burger and sice they use the same oil to cook their fish as they do their fries and I am highly allergic to fish, I couldn't have fries. I was in a hurry, so I just got a burger. Sadly, I won't be back as I could only order half of what I wanted. Seems to me a burger joint should focus on burgers and fries. This is San Francisco, there are plenty of seafood options.
The burgers are great but that's about it. The patties are large and the buns/toppings were good. The service was bad and both my orders came out incorrectly. The restaurant isn't clean and I wouldn't recommend dinning-in. For two people, our total came out to $35 (2 single patty burgers, 2 small fries and a milkshake), pretty pricey if you ask me. Lastly if you don't buy a drink I hope you like cucumber water!
Been going here for years. Before it was under Korean management, it was pretty cheap pub food. Now, the menu hasn't changed but obviously their rent went up. 13 organic wings and some garlic fries shouldn't cost 20$, but they certainly are damn good. Imo, the gmo wings at like BWW are a better deal (bigger, meatier, cheaper) but this place has really good sauce and they're fast
It's ok...Thursday 1 week before Thanksgiving. I got the impression that they weren't expecting people. She took the order and someone else cooked it. It was good burger, but the fries were not fully done. I've been here before (1+yrs ago) and they were busy...but the lack of people today left us and them underwhelmed COVID sucks! I appreciate them for working under duress ❤️
I’m usually not a huge fan of burgers but this place was great. The prices have increased a bit (compared to the photos in the archive), and I don’t think there’s a happy hour anymore . Got the western burger (comes with fries), and a side of sweet potato fries. Fries are delectably crunchy and not over-fried . Rating: only 4 stars bc I haven’t tried everything
"Reasonably" priced burgers, fries and shakes in this small neighborhood store front. -- Limited seating on the (sometimes) busy main floor, so ask about the additional tables available upstairs for a bit more relaxed environment. If you are looking for ambiance, look elsewhere... but if your goal is a quick, tasty and affordable bite to eat - try Double Decker.--
Good burgers, charming atmosphere and decent prices. What more could you ask for? No indoor seating but there are a few tables outside and plenty of places to sit in the neighborhood

Fast, great happy hour prices, great wings and sauces. When I think of getting wings in the city, this is always the first place I think of. It's not the prettiest place, but that only adds to the charm for me. If you want fancy wings, I'm sure you can find somewhere around town to overpay for less satisfying wings in a more comfortable space.
I effin love double decker. I'd compare the quality to that of Pearl's which is a big compliment in my opinion. Can't go wrong with any of these burgers and sweet potato fries are always good. Everything is priced fairly for SF. As a burger enthusiast, nothing is better on a game night than a double decker burger and a double IPA.
The food (wings, garlic fries, shake)were 5 out of 10. I was not impressed with the food. Lady at the register needs some proper manners. A simple hello, goodbye, or thank you goes a long way. If you don't like serving people, find something else to do.

Great shakes. Minimal menu makes it easy. Niman beef means a few more bucks but I'm happy to pay if I can imagine my meat lived a decent life. It was the first beef I'd had for years since I don't see much humane meat on menus. You'd think there'd be much more in a city that seems to care and acts like it has money to burn.
Very cheap by SF standard. Basically an independent fast food place. The menu is a bit bigger and the service/quality is better.

Bare bones place to get your burger fix. They now have the Impossible Burger, which I tried and think it’s a solid option. They also have veggie patties and a fish burger. Extra seating on the second level. If price is a concern they’ve got their burger and fries combo for $9, which is a good deal by SF standards.
I've heard about Double Decker many times throughout my search for great wings in SF. I finally stopped in the other day, but the wings were just ok. The flavors were right, it was proper buffalo sauce, but the sauce didn't stick to the wings so they just sat in a puddle of wet. The search continues!
The wings here ARE SO GOOD. Price point - good. Quantity - good. Taste - INCREDIBLE. As long as you're good literally being stuck on the toilet after for ~ 25min having a cold sweat then these are THE WINGS FOR YOU.

Freshly ground coffee and sweet potato fries are great! Friendly staff, and you can choose a patty out of 5-6 choices (different types of meat, impossible burger, veggie). I got hawaiian burger with veggie patty, I liked it. I'm going back here again to try more things menu!
Surprisingly tasty for a hole-in-the-wall place. The California burger was delicious, with nice sour picks. The fish burger somehow remained crispy, even though we took it home. The buffalo wings, had that great vinegary taste even without being very spicy (we got mild).
Consistently great hamburger! I always get the California. Even though our business is now on the other side of the city, I will travel especially to Hayes Valley for Double Decker.

I love the California burger add bacon but I've had all the burgers and they're all extremely yummy. Plus it's quick you order it and within 10 minutes it's ready for pick up... Yum yum I think I know what I'm eating when I wake up this morning. …
Decent burger joint that seems kind of dirty. They have a few seats inside and have a TV. They sell Mitchell's ice cream too! They also have an upstairs dining area. It is attached to a hotel and is far away from most other businesses in Hayes Valley.
Ordered wings snf fries. The wings were really good, but the put the wings on top of the fries, so the fries were soggy

Ordered on Uber Eats. Got chicken wings,Caesar salad & fish. Everything was underwhelming. The blue cheese dressing is nasty. The fish was only 2 pieces & I struggled to eat the 2nd portion. Fries undercooked & the chicken was just so so.
Fantastic burgers in a very low key spot. I think they are delicious especially because of the freshness and juiciness. They have fort point beer on tap so that's a plus for me. Wish they would stay open until later though, at least 10pm.

Food was great. Had the western burger with hot wings a fries (split with someone). It's a little hole in the wall ran by Asians but the food is really good. Prices are expensive but it's San Francisco so everything is high.
Do not be turned off by the fact that this is in the parking lot of a Days Inn. Their burgers are great and, like their beer, not expensive! If you're not looking for ambiance, but just some good American food, come by here.
Food is great, friendly service, not always fluent in English, and the place can get busily slammed at peak hours. But that's only because the food is amazing. The upper deck is a great hangout spot for a 4-10 people party!
Have only ordered delivery from here. Got the wings, California burger and fries. Burger was really good but the wings were really great! Finally found a wing spot to order from for Sunday football games. Would recommend!

This place is really hit or miss, I've had some good burgers here but also a few times the burgers were really bad. Same with the fries, sometimes really good crispy fries but other times soggy bland fries.
Everything was just perfect. Burger was so cheesy and warm, fries and onion rings were hot, and the buffalo sauce on the wings, wow! Also they got really good beers on draft. Looking forward to next time.
Pretty good, had garlic & cheese wings and the sunny burger or whatever that had an egg, but they forgot the other burger that was ordered! If you get your food it's good, just double check before you go.
Had the Hawaiian burger and ksa beer. The beer was cold and on tap =+2* The fries crispy and delish =+1* The burger was served with cold pineapple which made the burger Luke warm in my mouth =0* Total 3*
I've stayed here the last 4 times coming to San Francisco, always clean, the clerk's are very helpfu there is also a fantastic restaurant across the parking lot, The Double Decker fantastic chicken wings
The $2.50 beer and $3.50/5 wings are definitely great Happy Hour deals (3 to 6 pm). The Double Decker burger was a tad greasy for my taste, but overall a very reasonable experience given the posh area.
Great little place for a traditional hamburger. Expect San Francisco prices. At the time, they offered "happy hour" pricing for sides such as Garlic Fries and such. They have draft beer available, too!
Excellent burgers and fries, friendly service, groovy ship-like upper level. Owner has a rare, ancient double-character surname which adds to the backstory of burger joint employee to dream fulfilled.

The food was fresh and affordable. My fish sandwich tasted like it was just caught and fried. The outside seating was in the parking lot of a motel. But otherwise it was a nice easter brunch.
The meat is good quality. Reasoning was off. Flavors of everything were off. Was pretty darn bland. Just keep slowly trickling downhill every time I come by. I don’t think I can come again.
Quick service, too quality burgers, and girlfriend loves the wings and Cobb Salad. Kitchen is clean. All I gradients are fresh and of top quality. Great lunchtime spot! Dinner too...
Best burger in Hayes Valley. All the ingredients come together perfectly. From the Nieman ranch need to the toasted buns. And I can’t say this enough. Amazing frys. Please visit
Burger was well cooked. Fries were extra crispy. Hole in the wall type place. Never thought I’d put a good review for a burger made by a chinese person, but it was delivicous
Solid standard burger joint. Don't come here if you are looking to be blown away by a fancy grass fed, free range burger that you'll tell all your friends and family about.

solid burger connected to a motorlodge, which is weird, but the beer is strong and the burgers are tasty, and the weird upstairs seating area is pretty fun
A delicious greasy spoon, great for basic burgers of different types. The garlic fries are really garlicy! Look for seating upstairs for the best view.

They have vegan meat options too, which is nice for a burger place. It's not super cozy though, says the spoiled brat that I am...
Do NOT even bother! Waited 40 minutes for a cheese burger, and it wasn’t even that busy. The food is... fine... but not worth it.
Wings are great! Folks who work there were extraordinarily helpful and accommodating. Salad was as fresh and crisp as could be.
Wings were good but not as good as the previous reviews i read. But i like them deep fried so take this with a grain of salt.
Good burger for a small shop like this. There is a second floor. They have beer on tap. 1 burger and 1 beer around 20 boks.
Seems like the beef has changed over the years. BBQ Sauce is still good. Chicken wing dings are good too. Expensive eating
Great burgers. Good size patty with the perfect amount of char, fresh veggies and melty cheeeeeeese! Damn I love burgers.
Nice hole in the wall - a block from Davies Symphony Hall - for a tasty burger, fries and beverage without the pretense.

Well cooked burger with plenty of fixings. Friendly staff. Have gone there several times on my walk back from work
Always really friendly service and delicious burgers! The fries are soo good! Also their wings aren't half bad.
I know this place is known for burgers, but I had a chicken caesar salad. Should've had the burger.☹
The meat didn't seem as high quality last time I went in, though the service is still pretty good.
Great burgers!!!! Postmates only has 3 items listed for your menu though! You should remedy that
Just ordering anything from them is a hassle because big surprise, they don't speak English.
Can't go wrong with pitcher of refreshing beer and tasty buffalo wings at Double Decker's.

Sort of a standard burger joint with standard fries. A little pricey for what it is.
