Generally, I really like coming here and using the pool and weight equipment (5 stars), but I have two complaints about my most recent trip to the downtown Y. 1) After a swim, I like to spend about 5 minutes in the dry sauna to warm up. This last time there was a giant cockroach under the decking of the sauna just wandering around. And I mean giant. That was gross. 2) Changing in the locker room with Fox News anchors bashing women is really unpleasant. No one was watching this. No one. There is no reason for this crap to be on, especially not in a women's locker room where women should feel comfortable and safe, not ashamed and less than and vulnerable. I understand the Y does not control the content of that channel, but there is no reason for that channel to be on in the first place. This is a captive audience space and you cannot avoid the sound in any part of the changing area. Moreover, despite the Y being a Christian organization, the content of Fox News does not reflect the basic tenets of this faith or the mission of the Y, which includes nurturing supportive communities, not disassembling and dividing them with misinformation and dogma. I hope staff there can make an effort to make the locker rooms in particular a more safe, tolerant, and inclusive space for all women.
This is the second year my daughter has been going to Fun Company after school. The teachers watching them after school are great. The customer service department on the other hand, is not. I had my account on automatic draft for 1.5 years. Until I lost my job, and I was trying to remove it to pay it manually. I tried for over a month. No way to remove auto draft online. The teachers at the school did not have the option either. The google number is outdated, no longer in service. I emailed, with no response, and submitted online tickets that whole time. Within that time frame, they started new rule, if auto draft fails there is a $25 fee. I called them and asked for that fee to be removed since I have been on auto draft this whole time and I have been trying to get it removed with no response. They refused to remove it. They didn't reply for over a month to get my auto draft removed, and then refuse to help with the return fee they accessed to me because the auto draft got declined when I knew it would. I was informed to get with Margaret Harris and then she avoided every single email. They are great with watching the kids, but when it comes to paying and how hard it is to get in touch with them. I would not recommend having your account on auto pay.
My dear family of YMCA , let me Introduce myself I’m a Dance & Fitness Coach who always visit the installations for keep myself training and dancing by using the dance room Specially when is free like many members who want to stretch etc. Yesterday Thursday 27 JULY I had an uncomfortable experience , while I was using the dance room with another people inside , a “Instructor called “KIM” she open the door and started screaming to us the: “WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO USE THE ROOM , IS ONLY FOR INSTRUCTORS, YOU NEED TO GO OUT , while she was keeping telling us to get out I stopped her and ask to please introduce herself because ME as a PROFESSIONAL I have ways to treat people specially if is in my work place , this instructor didn’t have the manners to do it so I was wondering if she really was an ymca Instructor because of her rude approach to us. I’m very sad for this situation and I’m sure the I don’t want to come back to this YMCA. This happened around 8 PM .
My PCP referred me to this YMCA location for the St. Thomas Medical Partners Outpatient Rehabilitation & Physical Therapy department. I spoke to Ms. Lisa, the Secretary for this facility. She was very compassionate, knowledgeable & provided helpful information for me to get started with the process. She handled my insurance information on my behalf & upon my arrival for the 1st session, greeted me with a warm smile & welcome! I was assigned to Andy, The best therapist there. He was attentive, professional, polite & definitely helped me to feel so much better within 8 sessions! The environment is great, clean & well equipped for good & productive therapy sessions. It’s housed within the downtown YMCA. If you’re looking for a good physical therapy Team of caring & compassionate physical therapists & front office staff, consider this location. You’ll be glad you did & you’ll feel so much better as a result!
Very overrated, and always overcrowded, regardless of what time of day you go. To make it worse, you pay extra for the privilege of parking in their covered garage. However, in both the afternoon and evening, the garage is always full. As is the overflow parking lot 75% of the time. They purposely promote and push the covered garage parking, knowing full well that there's not enough room to accommodate the passes they are selling. You generally have to wait in a line, for a lengthy amount time to use the equipment as it is always in use. Aa far as the pool goes, apparently the rooftop heated pool is closed beginning in September. And the indoor pool is nowhere near big enough to accommodate the sheer amount of people who want to use it. This place is definitely not worth the price you have to pay to go to it. It causes too many frustrations trying to get in and use anything.
My son and members of his medical fraternity are in Nashville, TN this week volunteering their time at a medical facility packaging medical supplies to be shipped to poorer Countries. The group of kids work hard for humanitarian causes, and are sleeping in a church on the floor at night. Unfortunately, this church does not have showers for them. When they inquired about using your shower facilities, they were told they would need to pay $900 to use them....despicable. Shame on you for not extending them the use of your showers for one measly week. They are not paid for the week of work they are doing, they volunteer their time and energy to help those less fortunate....too bad you cannot say the same. I was forced to give you one star to publish my review....but you don't deserve it.
I Enjoy The Olympic Size Pool .. Many Other YMCAS Don't Offer This. Free Coffee & Tea For Only Customer's To Warm You Up For Workout. Steam Sauna & Dry Sauna .. No Whirlpool But Have Every Else. Parking Across Street And And Close To Bus Line. Children's Play Area With Supervisor While You Work Out. Does Accept Silver Sneakers Or Silver Fit. Oh, one more thing ... I've been doing a pattern in my workouts ... Rowing Machine 1st ... Cool down with 30 minutes of meditation in boxing yoga room ... Swimming for 30 Minutes ... I recently saw a doc ... and it was confirmed of severe injury from a hospital. He asked how are you still walking. My same reply. He advised a hip replacement surgery. My reply that's always the last alternative. I feel great because of YMCA. Thanks guy's!!
There are always 3-4 staff members but no one cleans up the workout area. Today seven out of ten of the plated machines had super heavy weights left on them by some d-bags who refuse to strip their weights. And I'm not about to strain my back or shoulder injury doing it for them. I complained twice to the staff. First time "Oh yeah we need to make signs". Second time the manager, who was talking to some dude with a skateboard the entire time I was there said "It's Saturday and we have no wellness staff." Well then who is responsible for the floor? "I am". The correct answer, both times would have been: "I'm sorry you couldn't use our equipment. Of course that's what you pay for. Which machines? I'll do it right now for you."
I was referred by a friend to the YMCA of Middle Tennessee. From the first time I walked in to check out the downtown Middle Tennessee YMCA, the people were wonderful. I was greeted kindly and offered a tour. I was given the full explanation of membership options and told how to join. Joining the club has been a great experience at the downtown location and looking forward to using the other local Y's, as part of our membership. The cardio, weights, gyms and pools, are all available, clean, and open during the hours my family and I need. The parking during busy hours is a slight challenge but the staff has done a nice job of directing members to the overflow lot, which is easily accessible. I would highly recommend the Y!
We are living in Nashville temporarily (downtown) & decided to join this gym. Our experience has been amazing. The entire location is pristine & up to date. Every staff member we have ever interacted with has been very friendly & helpful. Our favorite aspect though is the childcare area- our 6 year old stays with the staff while we workout (5 to 6 times a week) & all of the people in there are amazing! She has so much fun with them that she actually gets mad when we come to pick her up, and she asks each day what time we are heading there. It makes things so much easier on us when we can workout with a clear mind, knowing she is in good hands. We really love this place and recommend it to everyone.
This is the best Y in Nashville. Very spacious and tons of equipment. The parking situation isn't the best. Street parking is hard to get during rush hours and if you start around the time that the new year resolution people start then you might as well forget parking altogether. Other than that it's decent. One thing I would like this Y do better on is communication with its members. Once a year, they close down and do equipment maintenance, but they aren't great at getting that message out to members because every year members show up and get upset when turned away. Sending an email or something would be great and prevent people from wasting gas.
I joined this YMCA 2 months ago I don't know what magic it has I will keep going here..I don't like going other gyms.this gym has a very great ambience well equipped with all weights & machines to get ripped, but the only tough part for me is sometimes there is a little waiting time for squats&bench press machines.after your workout you can choose some chocolate drinks& variety of Teas at free of cost,I would specailly like to mention that staff was very well trained they use to keep y always as clean as possible....if you're reading this just join this Y.Trust me you will never miss one day being lazy
Although the facilities itself are nice, I’ve had bad luck with other services. The aquatics coordinator was terribly unprofessional a few years back when I was trying to schedule swim lessons—taking my money as a deposit, slow to respond to emails and then just scheduling me for lessons in the middle of the day (when I work full time) without checking with me first. She was very difficult to work with and very unprofessional. And now, I’ve submitted a personal training request and was told I would hear from someone within 1-2 business days. A week later—nada.
It’s a nice gym... but for 700,000+ population there needs to be more squat racks, cable setups, and weight equipment in general. You will spend a lot of time wasted standing around waiting to do a certain exercise or skipping it entirely unless you want to hover and annoy someone or be annoyed by someone hovering because there isn’t enough equipment. If you like cardio, get after it because there is dozens and dozens of cardio machines. Not the best Y set up I’ve seen, but what they do have is of good quality. Overall, a disappointing gym though.
I love the Downtown Y! It has a consistently positive atmosphere, from the staff at the door who greet you with a smile at 5am, to the fellow members on the gym floor who stop for a chat. The Y is really about community, which takes it a step above the standard gym experience. Also, they provide towels and that is apparently no longer the norm at most gyms. You get access to great classes and resources such as personal training and nutrition experts. And there’s a massage therapy professional in the same building! What more could you ask for?
I was a former employee of the YMCA who was forced out after surviving stage four cancer. Apparently an OSHA report was filed soon after, an anonymous report, but I’ve received word that the CEO of YMCA of Middle Tennessee has been slandering my name at Rotary club meetings, because the report came soon after I left. So this “Christian” organization does not take care of employee to make miraculous Recoveries in Turn seeks to damage them As much as possible. I do not recommend anyone deal with these hypocrites
Very clean, parking costs $5, nice staff. None of this really mattered though because of major safety issues. I never trust the lifeguards and neither should you. During a 1 hour swim, 50% of the lifeguards were visible texting on their phones while being the ONLY lifeguard at the pool (my guest and I could clearly see their phones). It didn't matter if there were struggling children in the water, the phones were hidden between their guard tubes and body with eyes on the screen.
Do not waste your time here. You will spend more time looking for a parking spot than actually working out. Your options are street parking (no chance during peak times) and they offer a parking garage for an extra 12 bucks a month but that often fills up and then you’re just SOL. Equipment is decent; not near as nice or as many options as Green Hills Y. Do yourself a favor and make the extra drive to the East Nashville or Green Hills facilities. It will be worth it.
I absolutely love the Y. I was intimidated at first but now it feels like a second home. The staff are so incredibly kind and helpful. I've tried classes and have always had a great experience. There is a wide variety of equipment an it always feel kept up well. They have done a wonderful job making the gym feel safe and clean during the Covid-19 pandemic. If you're looking for a gym where you feel comfortable, accepted, and pushed to do you best, the Y is for you!
Beautiful facility, great equipment, very clean and excellent location. *2019 update: still a great gym, still amazing staff, but after closing the bathrooms and locker rooms for weeks all they did was retile the shower area and install depressingly weak water pressure. You all just sold the building across the street for millions to build what will be the ugliest sky scraper in Nashville, you could at least use some of that money to keep the showers running well.
Garbage sales. "Chris," calls himself a salesman, where he would be more effective at a fast food cashier. Zero customer service. Ymca website clearly states, "BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee - BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee insurance customers can receive 50% off their joining fee. To receive the 50% waiver, simply present your BlueCross BlueShield insurance card when signing up at your local Y." Chris refused to honor the deal. Asked for a manager.. denied.
I love the Y. The staff are always very kind and helpful. The downtown location is the more intimidating YMCAs though because there are a lot of really in shape younger people lol. Everyone is nice though ya know. When you buy a membership you get access to all the YMCAs in Middle TN for only $40 bucks. You really can't beat that. Oh, and they have an awesome steam room, pool, sauna, and well equipped weight room and other stuff I haven't explored.
I just joined The Y recently, and it is a really wonderful facility. I would say most of the staff are warm and welcoming. There is rarely a wait time for equipment use. The locker room is large and has a sauna and steam room. My only complaint is, I didn't get a tour when I first signed up. This makes navigating the facility kind of difficult. Its a large building with many amenities, but I don’t know where half of them are unfortunately.
While I'm sure what is left of the Ymca at this location is fine but,, there is no pool at This Location. This information would have been more helpful before we walked a mile and a half there... and back in 90+ degree heat. The photos are still on their website for Pools that no longer exist. It would be helpful and more accurate to remove those photos so you don't mislead people in the future. Eric T. Hogan
This gym has a lot. 2 pools, basketball court, 2 squat racks; 2 smith machines along with a lot of free weights and treadmills and elipticals. Staff is engaging and fun. Clean, even in the locker rooms. As any downtown location, parking isn't free. You can oak on the street and pay the meter or park in the parking garage. But if you park before 6:00 and after 18:00 the street is free, free all day on Sunday.
Overall it’s an excellent facility. Spacious, well-run, clean and friendly staff. It also has additional enjoyable events like ballroom dancing classes. I particularly enjoy lap swimming and ballroom dance classes. I really appreciate this Y providing clean towels and ample shower stalls. And parking is so convenient. It’s one of the amazing Y’s. It’s worth Five stars!
Risa at the front is great. She gave me thorough tour and welcomes me by name! I never feel the gym is too crowded and I have all the equipment I need to stay lean and strong. Great staff and experience! It is in need of a face-lift and some of the equipment is outdated. However, I'm not deducting a star because I know construction is to begin soon!
Stopped in here for a workout while on holidays. AMAZING FACILITY!! One of the best fitness centres I’ve been to. Lots of equipment that I haven’t seen. The hidden gem was the rooftop pool to grab some rays and relax as our hotel didn’t have a pool. If you need a break from Broadway and want to sweat out some of the sin, check in here for a workout!
Beware: My wife and I cancelled our membership because we moved out of state. We still get charged monthly after cancelling, and we spend 30min-1hour on hold every time we call to get this fixed. They say they don't have "the power" to refund past months payments, and no matter what we do we still seem to get charged. Not cool Y
I just joined the Y and I already love my experience so far. The gym is spacious with a wide variety of equipment and different areas to work out / warm up / stretch / etc. I love the commitment to cleanliness and sanitation in the shared areas. I can't wait to explore other amenities the club has to offer in the future.
I'm impressed with the facility. The locker rooms are clean and modern. The pool is a great size (and usually empty) and the Wellness Center is never even close to busy when I arrive (between 830 and 11 am). Y Play hours are reasonable and the care seems great for my 2 year old. I'm glad I joined this YMCA.
This is hands down the best YMCA I've been to. The building is obviously pretty old, but other than that this is a top notch facility. Reminds me of my University gym, all you're missing is a rock wall. Great to work into your routine if you're a downtown worker, you can even get your shoes shined here!
Pay $100 to be a member. Pay an additional $5 every time you park or a $9 extra parking pass to park at a parking lot OWNED BY THE YMCA that I pay to be a member of. Facilities are decent but the nickle and diming you make you just want to join a different gym. I will once I no longer need child care.
By far the best gym while I was visiting. Has all the equipments and machines you need to get a great workout not to mention the amenities to enjoy afterwards. Cheap day passes too along with professional staff. Definitely recommend this gym to anyone that's close to downtown or visiting Nashville.
Outstanding facility, clean, modern, well-designed, in a great location. The management and staff are friendly, professional, and responsive to feedback. The personal trainers are outstanding and the maintenance crew keep the equipment in working order. This Y is a great asset for Nashville.
Nothing to knock you off your seat. However, with the scarcity of gyms in the Nashville metro area this one is considered one of the better ones. The best part about this gym is the location and the open space. They have been skimming down on the equipment in the past month for some reason.
I called to see if the YMCA was a Christian based organization because I had never been a part of one outside of TN. The girl that answered didn't know neither did the person she asked when she put me on hold supposedly. I was told I needed to email the director. SERIOUSLY!!! Hard pass.
Giant gym with only four squat racks. 60% of the gym layout is taken up by mostly unused cardio machines. People are always standing around frustrated waiting to use the weight racks. The gym should be a stress reliever not a source of stress. Coming here feels like sitting in traffic
Got it all. I play raquetball and the faculties are excellent. Terry Davis is the Y pro. He has a small well stocked pro shop and does restringing. He also offers lessons that are very beneficial. Terry is very active and puts on regular leagues and tournaments. Highly recommended.
It’s not just construction it’s more about the less and less Amenities. besides very outdated equipment The new locker room for the men’s was a very big joke, it’s very uncomfortable. If you have more than four people I am not really sure, but seems to me they don’t care.
Excellent facility; mega clean-conscious; high-quality/eclectic equipment (steam room, sauna, weight room, etc.). Most of all - staff were super nice and really wonderful. 10/10 for the facility, 12/10 for the staff. 100% recommend if you’re ever in Nashville!
The Y makes me feel like I literally have an extended family of people who are there to help improve me physically and mentally and are always extremely polite and professional whenever I have an issue at the gym. Hands down the best gym I've ever been to.
Great atmosphere and very welcoming;. with an unpredictable schedule, it’s good to have a place where you can get a workout in. Staff is very helpful. I attend water aerobics with Trudy on Monday’s and Barbara on Wednesday’s and they are superb.
I don’t understand why the gym charges it’s members additional 10 dollars for parking when members already pay their monthly dues. Just doesn’t seem fair to the customer and is surely taking advantage of the fact this gym is centrally located.
This place is my favorite workout spot. Love the energy and staff over there. Best of all, they have towels! Love the bible verses on walls and in basket at reception. Wish they brought the eucalyptus oil spray back to the steam room.
The downtown YMCA is fantastic- the equipment is regularly updated and the facility is clean, bright and open. The group fitness class schedule is pretty extensive and they often try new options, to keep it fresh. Love this place!
As a racquetball enthusiast, I have never seen a facility as welcoming as this place. Eight courts and a great group of players of all levels. The facility had a complete makeover a few years back and has maintained it very well.
Great gym with lots of equipmemt and options. They have the pool, basketball, raquet ball, classes, and all kinds of workout equipmemt.. its great. They even have a sauna and steam room if you want to use it. Overall great gym.
Took the POUND class with Deborah which was really good. Great cardio workout. Have also taken the Barre, BodyPump and Sculpt classes which were also good. There are a lot of choices for group exercise. Highly recommended.
Excellent facility with great staff, equipment and fitness classes. Rooftop pool also a plus. As a shift worker with irregular hours, my only wish is for longer (weekend) hours. Otherwise, it's everything I need in a gym.
I workout regularly at several different Y branches, but the Downtown YMCA is my favorite: I value the diversity of fellow members, handsome expansive main workout space, towel service, convenient parking, friendly staff.
The facility is awesome including equipment that stays in good shape or is repaired quickly. Movies were lame as they were mostly drama or bad comedy, but are getting more action. Employees are all very nice and helpful.
I feel perfectly at home at the Downtown YMCA. I love the people there and the facilities are top-notch. I have made quality friends at the Downtown Y that encourage me and help me remain accountable in my journey.
You see a lot of the same people and develop great relationships as for the most part we are all trying to better our lives. The fellowship and bettering of a person that takes place in the YMCA is second to none.
Great facility. Visited for first time in last week and several times since. Lucky to have two great locations (this one and Green Hills) so close to home. Great, friendly staff. Can't recommend highly enough.
This Y is awesome everything is updated and it's a super nice facility. That being said sometimes it gets so packed that I can't even find a machine, or workout with out being in someone's way it's so annoying
Since the pandemic and weather problems since 2020, I've realized such a difference in myself emotionally and physically. I've kept a big budget and time allowance for health in mind and spirit .. thank
Nice front desk staff and fun instructors, alot of equipment and classes to particpate in. Parking can be a challenge, even with paid parking in the garage. But overall, great place to get your sweat on!
This is the nicest Y in Nashville. It has a rooftop pool, complimentary towels, steam room, sauna, good classes and it’s clean. Parking is a little tricky if you don’t want to spring for their pay lot.
I had a really bad experience with some supplements I had taken this YMCA went above and beyond to try to help me and support me I’m so grateful for their care and support. They have a wonderful staff
I had a great experience from the time I entered the door. Great and friendly customer service. The facility was clean and spacious. There was a lot of equipment and I didn't have to compete for it.
This facility is lovely, the staff are so friendly and helpful, everything is well maintained and cleaned, and the patrons that go to work out are respectful. It’s a joy to workout at this location!
Rude, disrespectful and hypocritical staff. They charge for parking. They’re over packed. Their equipment is outdated and rusty. Their locker rooms are tiny. Avoid this location at all costs.
Best gym I have ever been to! We came here whilst visiting Nashville and it has the best facilities from gym to changing rooms and had an in and outdoor pool! Very flash! Highly recommend!
The downtown Y is an awesome gym with all the equipment, classes, and amenities needed, in addition to an amazing community resource!! The staff is always warm, welcoming, and cheerful!
Glorious old crusty Y Well kempt and clean Working parts in order Communal shower stalls Sauna steam room & pool Spacious lockers Towels provided Friendly staff A definite winner
Diversity in every sense. I never feel out of place at the Y. There is an ambience of kindness and community that makes me look forward to going even when I am busy with life.
I swim 3-4 times a week & love the Downtown Y. The pool & dressing rooms & showers are spotless & I enjoy the ‘adult’ nature of this Y. It’s my kind of facility! Great job!
Great place, i just hate that they close early in the weekends also the parking spot for the car is very small it barely fits, also this place is missing the hot tub …
Great facility with plenty of exercise equipment, friendly staff, workout and shower towels, Smoothie King on site and convenient location for those of us working downtown.
This place is incredible. Great vibes, great equipment, good space. Sunsets from upstairs are also awesome, but it gets a pretty darn crowded on weekdays between 5 and 8pm.
Changing review from 1 to 5 after help from Courtney! The best customer service I have received, very sweet person. Hope she is the one of managers. Will be back to visit.
-Towel service. -Not really having to worry about people stealing my things-Central location-Diversity of the staff-Care for those in need (homeless, hungry, etc.)
Closes too early why does ymca gyms close early when other gyms are mostly 24 hours they act like we got time in the morning we are busy and need gyms at night!
I love the downtown Y! The pool is amazing and caters to us sick lap swimmers. The women's locker room is spacious with towels to use keeping my gym bag lite.
The staff is always cheerful and friendly, and the facility is always clean and well kept. I’ve worked out here for over 2 years and couldn’t be happier
Everyone who works there is so welcoming and kind. Childcare goes above and beyond to care for your baby, and the facilities are in top condition!
I like the various options of different types of exercising possibilities. The indoor pool is great for an after workout cooldown lap session.
Great experience from parking to cleaning up after a workout. Plenty of equipment to suit every goal and it was all clean and well maintained.
Great place to stay fit while practicing safety precautions. Hope to see some new faces there and talk real estate! @tiffsellstn
Big shout out to Angie and her team for helping me today!! You all were so engaging and friendly. Customer service at its best!
Your team members are the most courteous and kind that I have ever come across having been a member of many gyms in my life.
Great staff and a large clean workout facility! Truly the best gym community in Nashville. Thank you for a great two years!
Great location. Nice equipment. Clean and friendly staff. Free classes. Never have to wait to use equipment or swim lane.
Best GYM in Nashville. Good choice of groups in the morning and in the evening. Very friendly front desk and instructors.
I've been to a lot of gyms in this town and the Ymca is so convenient with parking, the open space and lots of equipment!
We love the Y! Nice staffing and clean space and alot to do here. For 101 a month it’s not bad. And u can cancel anytime
Beautiful facility; great parking; great staff and convenient hours. Best Y I have ever worked out at (over 30+ years)
Love this YMCA. Staff is amazing throughout, and the most amazing facility and amentities of any Y I've ever been to.
Visiting from out of town. Friendly welcoming staff. Dynamic selection of equipment. Polite patrons. Towels provided.
Everything is always clean and organized. There's a great variety of options for whatever workout I feel like doing.
Friendly staff! Parking was easy and the rooftop pool is great. This location also has raquetball and we love that!
The Y management has bent over backwards to encourage use of the handball/racquetball courts. Much appreciated.
I just moved from Nashville 2 weeks ago and I'm missing this place already! Great place to workout and get fit!
It's a good facility, and staff have always been helpful to me and friendly. Pretty good programs and classes.
Great facilities that includes top of the line equipment, olympic pool, indoor track, and great free coffee.
Great staff and clean facilities. No matter how early or how late you’re always greeted with a smiling face!
Of all the YMCAs this is one of my favorite locations. As with all ys it would be perfect if they were 24hrs
Be attending since high school and now I'm grown! It is truly a place to cultivate wellness at every level.
I've been there for years. Always so clean & friendly staff. It has everything you need. Best gym in town!
