Inside the compound of Jeeja Mata Udyan... Entry ticket is only Rs. 10/- per Indian Adult. Foreigners are very highly charged. Here the statue of elephant after which Elephanta caves are named is kept.... A large bungalow or Haveli is converted into this museum. Many rare artefacts are kept on display here, which denote the history and culture of Mumbai. Various artefacts of brass, ivory, paper mash horns, pots made at J. J. School of Arts are displayed on ground floor. On first floor, many small miniature statues of human beings are displayed which denote the different cultures in Mumbai. Good place to visit with children, so that they can understand the history and culture of Mumabi. The complete theme of museum is to display the cultural heritage of Mumbai. At the back, there is a souvenir shop and cafeteria. Good souvenirs, however very costly. The table clocks at the souvenir shop are very nice. Work as clock as well as table weight. The watch costs around Rs. 950/- Other watches cost around Rs. 2500 - 3500/- Almost 2 hours are sufficent to watch the complete museum.

Formerly known as the Victoria and Albert Museum of West India Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum takes you back to the 19th century when you enter its premises. Its a small but a very unique museum. Its structure being similar to Buckingham Palace one will necer fail to notice its pristine presence. The museum is only rs 10 for an indian adult and rs 5 for a child below 12 years. There are collections of Pots, Armoury, China, Models, Maps, Statues, Monuments, Paintings, Scripts, Cannons, Daily items and many more related to different part of the world. On the top floor there is a detailed exhibition of different people belonging to different classes of society. I would also recommend you to visit the garden which is behind the museum to find some peace. You can visit the museum gift shop to support the museum. Don't forget to look at the ceiling of the museum it doesn't look like any other architecture in India. Outside the museum, to the right there is a huge stone elephant structure. Peek a little behind that elephant structure to see huge white marble statues of the British era.

I have visited this museum many times with different friends. It's a beautiful historical building that used to be the the Vicotoria and Albert Museum and now has its name changed. It showcases many handicrafts from India that show different kind of craftsmanship. They do free tours over the weekends. The Bhau Daji Lad Museum is a gem of a place with fascinating exhibits on arts, crafts, and industry (the ground floor), as well as on the history of Mumbai (upstairs). Restored in the past ten years to its original glory, the beautiful building itself is worth the visit. There was a lovely, intelligent, highly informative, and friendly young guide offering a free tour. You could seeping half an hour here, or you could spend four hours studying the profusion oof beautiful objects.

Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum is a place for entertainment, knowledge and relaxation. It is near Mumbai Zoo, and it is the oldest museum in the city. In the museum, you'll find artefacts, maps and manuscripts showcasing the rich history and cultural heritage of Mumbai. The museum also displays clay models and has a plethora of photographs and books narrating the story of the city. And it also organises art workshops, cultural performances and lectures from time to time. Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum was opened to the public in 1872. And the place has been known for its magnificence too. The grand metal palisades, staircase railings and the arched supports were all imported from England. And the etched glass designs are reminiscence of the glorious 19th-century architectural style.

Beautiful place. One of the best historic museum in mumbai. There ar meant informative things to learn at this place. My only suggestion would be, they should provide audio telemetry and also guides so that tourist can understand easily. Overall the place is great and with a mere fee of 10Rs it's beautiful and well maintained. The staff is supportive and helpful. There are many beautiful artifacts and beautiful sculptors inside the museum. the place is quite informative but everything is written. I wish there was something audio source to learn the information. Also one need to keep the bags outside the museum without any locker only a token is given, so please avoid any valuables.

I've been staying in Mumbai for 20+ years! But never seen anything like this! Lovely museum. It gives amazing perspective on the history of India. Hundreds of artefacts and their descriptions give you a glimpse of how India was during the British Era and before that. Artistic creations depicting the villages, the people, the sports and the livelihoods of Indian people of those times are an absolute delight to the eye. The museum also pays tribute to some of the greatest Indian minds who contributed in the preservation of Indian history and culture. A visit to this museum is a true lesson in history. Highly recommended, not to be missed at all!

Hidden monument in Mumbai and something everyone should visit. The cost of ticket is Rs. 10 per person. The interiors are just amazing. You get to see the history of this place and everything is just perfect. The place is well lit and you can view history of Mumbai way back to 150 years. This will definitely be of interest for historians. The cafe is also good and reasonably priced. A must place to visit if u are near Byculla Zoo. Super place and most recommended place in 2022.

With a beautiful interior and exceptional arts and crafts, this former Victoria and Albert Museum is great to visit. Foreigner's admission is just Rp. 100 and you can take photos (no flash). Main floor has collections of fine ceramics, metalwork, woodwork, ivory, lacquer, miniature paintings, and other media. Mezzanine has dioramas and figurines that depict India's cultures, trades, games, and religious worship. Galleries off each end and in the rear courtyard offer changing art shows. A snack bar in the rear courtyard provides a place to take a break. Note the museum closes on Wednesday!

A beautiful museam, well maintained, located just at the side of Byculla Zoo. Really worth a trip, especially for children. Heritage structure housing a wide collection of well catalogued and miniature displays from around the world. Cute miniature people, locations, and scenes from old India. Only misses an AC and it can get pretty hot on summer days. They've installed some coolers at locations. Entry is very reasonable at Rs10 for adults. You'll have to keep your bag out for security reasons. Photography with mobiles are allowed, but without flash.

It is a must visit if you are visiting Byculla zoo. The rotating gate is also a heritage, still working and it was made in England. Two floors, ground and first plus a cafe at the behind. They museum has a shop, which is expensive. The cafe is a must visit, only soft drinks, tea, coffee and packed products are available but if you want a break no better place than the hustle bustle in the heart of Mumbai. Nice place for couples to hang out (Tip).

  • Sabir Syed

The museum had some amazing collections of past history including ancient games of India, Metals and Utensils used in early period. Vintage painting and history of people who settled early in Bombay when it was just an island. It also has a huge Elephant statue outside which was found in Elephanta island which the Britishers tried to take to UK but it was broken while in transit so fixed it and kept it outside the museum for display.

  • Subham Chakraborty

The oldest museum in the Mumbai. Good collection of artefacts but more than that they organise really good events which are mostly good and educative. They have a education section which plans and organises these events. If you want to be informed about these events then you can leave your email id with them, they'll keep you updated. Highly recommended for the kids.

A highly affordable museum. Takes 10/- rupees for adults from India, and 100/- for foreigners. Artefacts located on ground floor and 1st floor. It's a cultural museum with scenes created from history. Lot of history focuses on Mumbai history. Located in the Zoo compound. The ceiling and colours are truly beautiful.

Excellent place and well maintained. You'll be totally in awe with the interiors. It also throws light on the trade routes and relations that were in place couple of centuries back. You also get a fair idea about the different geographical areas within Mumbai. Definitely a must visit place for art connoisseurs.

Wednesday is Holiday, closed. Parking available at the spot. It's a 150 years old monument consisting of wonderful, historically significant rare collection of coins, pictures, drawings and ship models. Variety of old village setting and profession depicted in actual ways. I found it to be superb and informative.

  • Vidyasagar Hariharan

Very interesting museum. Though it is one of the smallest museums I have visited, the uniqueness of the museum is it covers lot of facets of the history of Mumbai. Good collection of artefacts too. The best part of the museum is its outstanding Victorian era architecture. Worth visiting again

  • Krishna Iyer

The original and authentic name of the place is Victoria and Albert Museum, Bombay and it is near the Victoria Gardens (Now renamed as Jijamata Udyan) which is built in British style. No doubt the architecture and contents inside is exceptional as it's been built by the British.
