I suffer from chronic illness and deal with horrible pain on a daily basis, only having to go to the ER if absolutely necessary. I only go when the intensity and variation of pain changes and it is a very scary thing to have to go through. From the get go, the level of care, compassion and overall bedside manner from Dr. Louis M Profeta was nonexistent. He scoffed and looked down at me, expressionless, robotic, demeaning and negative. His poor behavior, zero empathy and no care in the world attitude is not fitting for the doctor role. Fully aware of my disease and previous hospitalization results, he also treated me as if I was a drug seeker. After straight up asking him if that was what he thought I came here for, he deflected and didn’t answer the simple yes or no question. Truly sad that I am just one of millions of women with this chronic disease that had to go through what I went through with him. I was left in my room for hours: alone, scared and in pain. After doing some imaging that was very painful to go through, I was still ignored after the imaging-bawling my eyes out in pain and freezing cold-I decided since no one came to check in on me, to call for help, they said they would be in, never came and after 15 more minutes of waiting, I got up and out of my bed, went out to look for someone to help, and saw everyone laughing and chitchatting at the nurses station. I started to get chest pain and tightness, along with more symptoms as the night went on. I let that be known and Dr. Profeta shrugged and said: "there's nothing we can do for ya here." I never felt so unimportant - like a bag of trash that they didn’t want to deal with. I am very disappointed to say the least, I will never return to Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Fishers, and probably anywhere else that is affiliated with Ascension. I am a human being with a true chronic illness and deserve to be treated better. I can’t say one nice thing about my experience. Every single moment spent in that hospital was distressing- from old and dried up wipes they make you use to clean before doing a urine test, to the lack of care and commitment from the medical staff. This was the worst experience in medicine I have ever been through. Absolutely appalling.

Twice now I've had the misfortune of being treated terribly by Dr. Profeta. Many years ago he misdiagnosed me and told me I could take a shot for an sti, that I did NOT have, or I could leave with no treatment. I had to leave and go to another hospital to get the imaging I needed, correct diagnosis and treatment. Today I visited the ER and unfortunately was treated terribly and crying by the end to yet again have to leave and find another emergency department to help. I will never return to any Ascension location because if that's the kind of person they keep around, they can't possibly believe patient care is important. I don't care about his book or TED talks or any of his other work. He is rude, hateful, and assumes anyone with a zip code outside of his is a drug seeker. I did not want pain medication, I wanted a simple antibiotic/steroid combo to take care of my tonsillitis. Biggest jerk I've ever had to endure.

I wholeheartedly agree in that Dr. Lou Profeta is the worst ER physician to walk the face of the Earth. He's an author and calls himself such a "family man" on his social media pages. If that is the case, I feel so bad for his family and readers. He is extremely rude, rushed, on his phone while speaking to his patients, and makes fun of his patients out loud. Extremely unprofessional, condescending, and rude to his nurses and technicians in the ER. As an academic, I'm shocked he's allowed to speak at so many institutions of higher education with his conduct and lack of formal teaching credentials. I am also familiar with the dozens of complaints made about him to the Guest Relations (Patient Care Team) at the hospital from his long list of disgruntled patients. Beware.

Had the misfortune of seeing this provider at Ascension in Carmel recently. Very much a physician who decides what he would like your ailment to be and does not take the time to determine what it is. Missed a very easy diagnosis of UTI in a woman of child bearing age, backed up by urinalysis and blood work. He did heavily hint I was a drug user and offer me an unnecessarily invasive procedure for something I was not suffering from. To top it all off he congratulated himself by writing in his notes that I told him I was “feeling much better” when in truth, he didn’t ask and I left this hospital and went straight to another to get care solely due to his attitude. I will never return to any Ascension service after this experience.

Dr Profeta completely ignored my experience and misdiagnosed me with a lifelong, life altering condition. There was zero follow up about my lab results after my ER visit. After not hearing anything for weeks, I had to request my records (which they made me pay for) in order to learn that I did not need the medication that he prescribed out of negligence. I’d be curious to understand why my health was not taken seriously, my knowledge of my own body ignored, and no effort was taken to correct the mistake once it was identified.

Definitely the worst “doctor” I’ve ever seen. He was on his phone the entire time. No doubt looking everything up, he gave me answers even I knew and couldn’t even give me basic medical advice. I would look elsewhere. This guy knows nothing.

Dr. Profeta is the one doctor who really brings the humanity to the hospital.
