It's my local library but unfortunately I've had a really bad experience every single time I have been there. Even though it's for the public there's a feeling of unwelcome by the staff. Any question you ask, the response is always very rude or they make gestures or expressions like you're annoying them. The computers are EXTREMELY slow. It takes 30 to 45min every single time you try to print 1 paper as you have to change to different computers, as it only works when with some PC. The staff, which in this case was a tall man, why this is and the his response was "it's because it's a PDF" "You're going to have to turn the computer off completely or change computers". I asked hime if there's anything he can do and he said no, that it is what it is, basically. I also asked when printing my page that the printer charged me £0.20 but it cut the essential part of the words I needed, even when I had chosen it to come out "printed to the page" again his response was, "this is not on me" and not even tried to help or assist me, or refund. It's not about the money it's the gesture and the fact that it was a fault from the computer/printer. It's my local library and I don't have a printer so I have to use them, I also love reading books but it's just a shame to always have to deal with this bad experience every time you visit. Please, Barnet and East Finchley Library need to sort this out so everyone can feel welcomed and able to use the facilities and the library we deserve. Libraries matter but if you get this experience every time it's going to make you not want to come again, not sure if that's the intention? Please read people's reviews, it's been going on for years.

Had an unfortunate experience of some of the staff from Set Tuition (who use the building for their business) as a public library user. A misunderstanding about the door bell was handled poorly by the receptionist from Set Tuition who said her name was Nedar. The male colleague (I believe is the owner) who stepped in became equally rude. Finally, the older gentlemen who spoke showed the level of professionalism expected and explained that their staff held a lot of frustration about public library users mistakenly ringing their private business bell to enter during self-service hours. I’m sure they treat you in a professional manner as long as you are a paying member but to have this be our first experience of the public library building was extremely disappointing. The receptionist from Set Tuition also locked the public library toilets after the encounter - she told me it was a single cubicle then locked it after her student finished - which I found to be extremely spiteful as she saw me waiting to use it with my children.

Appalling staff etiquette. I had read the board AT THE FRONT OF THE LIBRARY. Which states opening hours. I went on a Wednesday at 4.35. On the board it says open until 8. Door was closed so I was wondering why. I knocked a few times. And a tall angry man comes to open the door and straight away says WE ARE CLOSED.! I said oh ok! I read on the board it's open. He said angrily. Well we have been closed for the past 16 weeks. I said well you should update your board then. He said you can clearly see on the door. There were no signs to say opening times on the door. He was completely rude and his behaviour was uncalled for. When they decide to open. I will be going back and making a formal complaint about him. Rude aggressive and unwelcoming. I'm just glad I didnt have my children with me.

Visited on a Tuesday morning, toilet was locked, and was there till 1.30pm. I used my card to access as it was self service period. Toilet was locked No place to plug in laptops No one to speak to for basic assistance (there's security person at Church End library during self service). I didn't enjoy my visit there and had to rush to Church End library so my day isn't a waste and to use the toilet.

Decent local library - I actually liked using the self-study room here occasionally, but after its renovation that area has been moved to the main library and feels less quiet. There's a good selection of children's books. Note it's now staffed for less hours of the week - you need your library card whitelisted for access during the hours it's not staffed.

Friendly staff in a very quiet environment. This feels quite dated and reminds me of my university library but in a good way. Shame the selection is quite small so there aren't a lot of books that appeal to me... However, if you do find one that you like have a go at the high tech self-checkout machine!

Very uncharacteristic of a library to be this noisy! With babies crying, kids shouting and tables and chairs being dragged around upstairs. The staff were also very unhelpful and slightly rude. I am very disappointed with my experience. Quite frankly, this is my last visit to this library.

Pleasant and attentive staff, very good book collection, excellent location; shame that it is to be closed for 6 months until August 2017, only to be reopened with much less floor space and only handful of hours with staff present every day.

This library is really cool and I was able to find the books I was searching for. The staff was nice and helpful.

  • Lorin Diaconu

The staff is extremely loud as if they sometimes forget they are working in a library.
