We chose this hotel for the kitchenette and neighborhood vibe. Our stay was Thursday to Monday. All of our interactions with staff were friendly. We stored our luggage the day of check in at the Chelsea Pines location. We received the entry codes via email at 3:00 pm. Our room was sufficient. A few annoying call outs...1. We should have had bar stools to sit at the small counter to eat. Requested, but never received.  This meant stand to eat or sit on the bed. Now, sitting on the bed to eat comes with the risk of spills and a $50 charge if you leave a stain. 2. It looked like there should have been a shelf in the shower, but there wasn't.  This meant all shower toiletries had to sit on the floor of the small shower. 3. Asked housekeeping for band-aids. We were told they would be brought IF they had any...never got'em. This is one of the many reasons that The Sweet Village Market underneath the rooms is so convenient! Super nice employees. Open 24 hours! Tasty veggie burger & fries! The market really made our stay better! :) If we choose to stay a EVH again I would ask for a room with stools and a shower shelf. ;) One last thing...EVH charges you for your first night stay approximately 4 days prior to check-in, then charges the remaining portion of your stay 2 days prior to check-in. This is not a practice we have ever experienced with chain hotels.

WOW! A lot of bad reviews here and I DO NOT AGREE! I thought it was a wonderful little hotel that runs more like an airbnb. You check in online, get your access codes and done! Simple. The room is roomy for NYC with a kitchenette! Clean. All linens were provided and no appliance or hot water issues at all. I love the street noise and brick interior and opening windows to the fire escape! There are shops and restaurants/bars everywhere and a rockin' pizza slice place across the street. So good. A perfect NYU experience, like you are literally living there for a few days. Oh AND..... I accidentally left my credit card in the room when I checked out and they found it and mailed it to me with pleasure and professionalism. I would definitely stay here again!

Safety
I was there alone as a female and felt safe both in the room and walking around, even at night. It's a popular area, so there are always people around.
Walkability
The location is great in East village, walkable to NYU and everywhere else and there is a subway station right there for further excursions.

Poorly Managed, Understaffed and loud street noise but no worries they provide ear plugs for all guest free. Water in the fridge is $1.00 and they failed to provide daily cleaning and did not have staff to replace my wet towels having stayed three days. I had issues with my stay from the time I arrived and until I left. The room had stains on the walls, tile, glass and linen. They have rules for the rules and beware and read the negative reviews as this property was a total fail. Management failed to reply to my concerns and has failed to find a resolution. Housekeeping does not arrive until 10 -11 am as they are clearly mismanaged. They charged me $10 to drop my luggage and then once I arrived they said that the staff would not be able to secure your bag until 10 am but to leave my unattended bags in the lobby/foyer and not to loiter as I felt dissed as I did not want my bags unattended. Read there many negative reviews and I will mention that one of the chairs was broken and the battery for the tv remote was missing it cover.

DONT STAY HERE!! I don't review many places but feel the responsibilty to spare others from making the mistake of booking this "hotel." Gaining access is a nightmare. You'll be instructed to call a phone number that doesn't get answered. The walls and ceilings were moldy and the air quality is horrible. Housekeeping came in unannounced and took a towel out of the bathroom. Just 30 minutes later I recieved an email from East Village Hotel that I was being charged for a "damaged" towel which they immediately charged my credit card. It was not damaged it just needed washed. There was a little bit of makeup on the towel from my wife washing her face. I tried several times to reach out by replying to the email and discuss this towel however was completely ignored. I would have liked to at least kept the towel that they charged $30 for. There are so many other places in this area that are a MUCH better value. Not to mention free of respiratory issues. I wish there was a way to upload photos of mold and ridiculous towel charge.

Back in New York but this time in the East Village in a funky walk up hotel called interestingly enough, The East Village Hotel. Fabulous location to places to eat, bars, transport and even a 24 hour market downstairs that has most hints you’ll need during your stay. It’s also quiet which I’m grateful for. Great additions that we didn’t have in 2022 accommodation - iron, hairdryer, stovetop, kettle, usual kitchen utensils, plenty of bathroom toiletries, hanging space for clothes and cookies as a welcome gift. Opened the bedside table and found condoms which is a new “added bonus” for guests. Note that there is no lobby or reception desk. It’s all completed remotely and worked efficiently. Recommend but does need a refresh soon. #eastvillagehotel #eastvillagenewyork #eastvillagenewyorkcity #thewanderingreviewer #newyorkhotels #newyorkhotel #eastvillagehotelnewyork

During my recent trip to New York I wanted to stay near the old neighbourhood I lived in back in the 70's. I found the perfect hotel situated on the corner of East 9th and 1st Avenue called the East Village Hotel. My room was at the top left corner and afforded a fabulous view over the neighbourhood. Before and during my stay I had to make two changes both extending my stay, Denise, who was manning reception while I stayed there made sure the changes went through without a hitch and was always on hand to help me. The room was great and the bed big and comfy. It was very hot during my stay but the aircon kept the room cool. There's a small kitchenette and a bathroom with shower. The only thing I would have liked would have been a small table to work on rather than the thin shelf under the TV. But for a true East Village experience you can't go past it.

  • Aster L

Loved it!! Stayed one night alone and one night with a friend. Great location, helpful staff (brought my luggage up ) and clean accommodation. It's affordable, in walking distance of SoHo and other places + trams, and it's right next to the cutest coffee place called the bean. I didn't see any roaches but that's probably cause I was there right after the blizzard ;) Only downside: fridge was loud - but I turned it off. One of the girls didn't seem very cogent about the environment when we asked her where we could park, if we can park longer in the street, if she had any recommendations etc., But we figured it out ourselves so no biggie. Last but not least, stay here if you are looking for a small studio te feel like a new Yorker ❤️and bring some earplugs if you're sensitive to noise. Don't stay here if youre looking for hotel luxury. :)

  • Ilias V

Right so, long story short, this is kind of a scam. The room itself was a miniature. We did not have hot water for the first half day, which eventually was fixed. I have to admit that on this, the hotel responded pretty quickly. The solution, however, was to wait until the next day since they didn't have anyone on site to look at it. The linen were yellowish, and at the same time, the hotel was threatening to hold the full deposit if we messed the towels. Finally, they did not even offer a bottle of water, and they clearly mentioned that the bottles in the fridge will be charged. Finally, the outside noise was unbearable, even with the earplugs provided by the hotel. Other information: No front desk Cleaners are discrete and good

do NOT stay here. incredibly noisy air conditioner that kept us up all night with button controls that didn't work. turning it off meant listening to street noise and the almost equally noisy fridge. they claim to supply earplugs - nope. there is no front desk, just a sign with a "24 hour phone line" that is definitely not manned 24 hours. we couldn't leave our room or get on wifi because we didn't receive the door code email, and they did not pick up the phone after 7:30pm. bathroom looks nice + recently done but for some reason there were rusty metal pieces sticking out of the shower wall. absurd that they charge the prices they do.

Nice little spot in a great location, clean and with the usual amenities of any hotel (fridge, microwave, and even a dishwasher) - although it feels more like a simple Airbnb/apartment then a hotel. My fiance and I came into the city for a night to visit some our fav old spots in LES/BK and it was perfect for this purpose, especially for the price. Check in was contactless and went smoothly and there is a nearby sister hotel that allows you to check your bags if needed. Most of the complaints in other reviews sound like people expecting a more traditional hotel with huge rooms. The walk up, street noise, small rooms are the real nyc experience ;)

  • ariana hardesty

I've not stayed anywhere else in New York so it may be hard to compare. The room itself is on the smaller side, but you don't feel cramped. It's really decked out with anything you could think of needing. It's more like a small loft style apartment than a hotel room I really loved staying here and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. The girl in charge of the desk was very friendly and suggested a few places near by to try out. She was also kind enough to let us leave our bags at the front desk when we arrived early so that we could still go out and explore while waiting for our room to be ready.

  • Jeff Haagenstad

No complaints about the hotel itself, but you can forget about getting any sleep. The noise level is incredible. Rumbling trucks on 1st Ave., ambulances with sirens all nights long, cars revving and drunks shmoozing outside East Village Pizza across the street. I swear I got woken up every 5 minutes, all night long. The hotel provided earplugs which aren't really an option if you have to set an alarm to get up early. It's sad because the hotel itself is nice.

We arrived, running late to an event, and they decided to not let us in because our poodle (clean, non shedding) dog was "too big." Their site said pets welcome with no restrictions. Even given our difficult situation with a show pending, our things already out on the sidewalk ready to be brought in, having completed a 11 hour drive from northern Maine, they refused to let us stay there. To make things worse, they were curt and unpleasant to us as they kicked us out. A hotel is a lot about the quality of management - beware.

What a stench - literally! I was placed in a room with known plumbing/sewer issues. When I spoke with the person at the front desk, I was told that they come could spray some air freshener, but that there was nothing else that they could do, and that maybe I could be moved for my other two days, if I could stop by around noon the next day. I am here for work and can't just leave in the middle of the day to come change rooms. It's a shame, because this actually would have been a great place to stay otherwise and I would have been a repeat customer.

  • Mickey Worsley

This place is a gem! I had a hard time finding this spot because it’s very concealed by other businesses nearby, plus there’s no big sign or entrance. You have to check in early to receive your door code(s). There’s a mini kitchen and nice size/decorative room. Only problem is that the toilet seat was broken before I got there, but the hotel charged me $50 for it. I explained this to them but doesn’t seem as if I’ll have too much luck. Unfortunately I won’t be back because of this experience.

  • Rich Goldsmith

The facade and rooms are fun and modern. The beds are a bit on the soft side. However, the thing I was unaware of was a simple lack of a lobby or reception area. I had to call a customer service line to get a code to get in the door and get a code to enter my room. Not a huge inconvenience but it desperately needs to be in an email once you've booked. Apart from the oversight, the location is lovely, right next to a coffee shop and across from a slice joint. Would absolutely stay again.

  • dave van beers

The rooms were fine, no front desk, checkin via e-mail. The kitchenettes were older, a door came off when looking inside. The fridge made a terrible noise and was leaky. The airco made a lot of noise. The cleaning ladies were kind and did a great job. The rooms were super clean. The bed was great though also seemd to fall apart at the seems. I could not control the heat in the shower just got hotter as time passed. But I enjoyed my stay and would go to this hotel again.

  • Tara Becker

I stayed at the East Village Hotel in late July 2021 and thought it was great. The price is the best you can find in the area, and even though it's small, they make good use of the space (larger under bed drawers, hangers, etc.). It feels more like an airbnb where you punch a code in at the door and there isn't a real lobby; which I liked! I always felt safe, this is a very bustling area.

Place itself is fine. Contactless check in and access to room is convenient and rooms are okay. But our air condition was super loud and made it hard to sleep - I had to sleep with noise cancelling headphones. Also street noise is very much a thing so if you like it quiet this is not the place for you. All the metro stations are min 5min ealk away too and with 35 degrees C in August this can become annoying.

  • Kriss Vanderhyde

Nice rooms! Small but comfortable. Clean. No frills here. High amount of street noise from 1st street and coyote ugly, but you get free earplugs. Kitchenette was nice. Hard to find the entrance in the dark. (It is on 9th street, btw) Everything works by codes, so don't forget it, or you're in trouble! Which was nice because I arrived at 2am, and was able to just go to my room. Overall good experience.

  • C. B

Room reeked of what smelled like cleaner or some kind of pesticide. Even with the window open it was very strong. Don't plan on getting any sleep here because the housekeepers are extremely loud. I'm talking nonstop yelling full conversations down the hallway at 6 am. The only thing I liked was the contact less check in. I wouldn't stay here again.

Bad service and the room was a dump. Lights didn’t work, TV didn’t work, and bed really cheap and uncomfortable. I called “Sean the hotel manager” about TV for troubleshooting help and instead got a young girl on phone who didn’t care at all and offered late checkout as a consolation. Lol. Save your money and stay elsewhere.

Great location in the heart of East Village, considering accommodation in NYC is usually quiet costly and cramped, this was surprisingly cozy. Other than no concierge being there the truest instilled by the staff in us in keeping the apartment in tact was welcoming. Short stroll up to Astor Place to public transport, and great shopping nearby. Great value for money.

  • Natalie Kertzner

Service was great - they give you numerical codes for the front door (which is always locked) as wlll as your room. The room seemed new, was very clean, and had a great air conditioner. I loved that the room had a little kitchenette - I was able to easily make coffee, tea, and warm up leftovers. 10 minute walk to the trains in all directions.

  • Mark H

This place is a shoebox. I spent $400 for a room with barely enough space for a suitcase. It's right on the street so very loud all night long. There is no desk, no amenities, no nothing but a tiny room. The bathroom barely fits a shower enclosed with a curtain. To top it off I had a hard time getting a receipt sent to me when I asked.

  • Evangelia Sylleliadou

Very convenient location, we were closeby to all main tourist places, museums etc. The staff were VERY good, we had several demands which were all met with helpfulness and smile. On the bad side , the rooms are quite small, there is no elevator and the cleaning detergent used smells SO much. We would surely stay again!

Extremely bad experience. For $300/night we got: very small room with cheap furnitures; all kinds of noise (from two streets, refrigerator, conditioner - we had to use ear plug when sleep); almost no hotel service. Stay away from this hotel and find yourself a real 3-star or 4-star hotel with less money!

  • Tammy Sanderson

Customer service was wonderful minus climbing the stairs several times for service. However the logistics of functioning items in the room was not to par. Remote to TV and coffee pot were not functional as well the fridge freezing my drinks. They did extend my ✔ out and hour which was very nice.

The room was small but had all the things you'd need and we didn't spend much time in the room anyway. It was difficult to find initially (the entrance is just a glass door on the side of a coffee shop). I would stay there again but I do feel the price is a little high for what you get.

It was a nice modern little hotel with a kitchenette. Linens need updating such as towels. The walls are thin as well as floors. They have a Roku TV so that was cool. Clean for the most part but this hotel is good for only 1 or 2 nights due to noise and linens...bring your own towels

This place is a NYC apartment if it were a hotel. Don't stay here if you want fluff. Do stay here if you want to be a NYer for a bit. Amazing location, decent digs for two. You may see a roach, but not likely. Great place to be left alone and enjoy the area. Signed, a native NYCer
