I went to celebrate my friend’s daughter’s graduation today. We went for dinner to the location on 1604 in San Antonio. 2838 N Loop 1604 E, San Antonio, TX 78232. The wait was over an hour to receive food which would have been fine seeing as we were a large party but at no point in our visit did our waitress come by to ask if we needed any refills or anything. Secondly I ordered my daughter the kids chicken strip plate and when the waitress brought it out I cut into my daughters chicken strips to cut them up for her and the chicken was raw. A friend at the table with us went to find the manager to let her know about the raw chicken that was served and the managers response (Maria Martinez) was why are y’all letting her eat the food then? She did not take it upon herself to come to the table to see my daughter did not eat that raw chicken. I always cut into my daughters food before she eats. As soon as I cut into I saw it was raw so I did not let my daughter touch that food. I then got up and went to the manager (Maria) to show her none of the chicken had been eaten. I showed her it was cut into but not one bite was taken. She then responded with fine I’ll just take it off the check. As if it was an inconvenience. No apology for us being served raw food. No accountability taken for the situation. I had to get up and take the plate to her to show her just to get the plate taken off the check. She is supposed to be a manager and lacks customer service skills, lacks professionalism, lacks leadership. The food was terrible and the service was awful! If 0 stars was an option I would select that because there was not one thing that went well with my visit to El Chaparral. I hope that other management speaks to Maria about her customer service. As she is not someone who should held responsible for employees when she lacks what it takes to be a good manager!

I got a gift card to this place. So, my wife and I decided to go here on a Sunday afternoon. The place really looks nice. I usually like to sit in a booth, but all the booths, in this place are two tops. That's pretty weird! Anyway, we sat at a table. The place really looks nice as you can see from the photo. And that's about the sum of it. Our waiter, I think, was new. Anyway he didn't seem to know much about what was going on. He couldn't even tell me if one of the meals had rice and beans or not. I ordered chile relleno, and my wife ordered enchiladas. We got served chips and salsa. The chips were kind of hard. They weren't really the light chips that I like. The salsa was kind of like tomato sauce run through a blender with some onions. Had very little flavor and very little seasoning. We waited for quite a while before our food came. When it did come it wasn't really pleasant to look at. It wasn't really bad but not pleasant. The chili relleno was soggy. The flavor was okay but not something you would expect in Texas. The rice was better, but the refried beans had very little flavor. I wouldn't put them on my table. My wife said that her enchiladas were good. And I tasted them and they were good. Not excellent but good. So I guess if you come here get the enchiladas. The flavor on the chile relleno was okay but it didn't have a lot of spice or anything. It wasn't really something you would expect it South Texas. My wife says she can use the rest of the card to bring one of her friends for lunch or something. I almost certainly won't be back.

(They do not honor menu price) Went this evening to have a casual dinner, this was my second time coming and it was highly disappointing. Outside and indoor decor is nice, but I would suggest putting that to $$ on new menus with accurate prices. First red flag was when we were sat at our booth table it was a bit wet, I called over a staff member that was nearby (manager in charge) and asked if we can get a rag to DRY the table, immediate response "it's sanitizer" ok I want a dry sanitized table then. The rest of my experience was subpar, I ordered my food and a cocktail (the ONLY cocktail that has a price in their menu $8) my food came before my drink. It was not busy, very few people at bar, would say 10 mins later finally got my drink. At this point can't wait to just leave, I get my bill and I see I'm being charged $10 for my cocktail. I notified my waitress and she said she'd talk to her manager, manager comes over and gives me an unnecessary/over exaggerated excuse on inflation changing from 1 day to a next and how (his words) owners do not want to change menu's because it's too expensive and putting tape over it makes menus look ugly. (Personally id rather be notified from the get go about prices) And ended with how they use "better quality" than other restaurants and then FINALLY a insincere apology. I'll end with this, other restaurant have accurate prices on both cocktail and food menus. So guess I'll be going to those establishments from now on. Will not be back ever.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at La Hacienda, a Mexican restaurant that exceeded my expectations in every way. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the Carne Asada Dinner - a generous serving of tender, juicy meat served alongside a side plate of perfectly cooked rice, beans, and pico de gallo. What struck me most about the dish was the sheer size of the portion - it was more than enough to satisfy my hunger and still have some leftovers to take home. But the quantity didn't come at the expense of quality; each element of the meal was expertly prepared and bursting with flavor. What's more, my dinner guests all enjoyed their own plates just as much as I did. It's clear that La Hacienda takes great pride in the quality of their food, and it shows in every bite. But the dining experience didn't stop at the food. We were lucky enough to snag a table in the outdoor seating area, which provided ample space and a refreshing cool breeze throughout the evening. It was the perfect setting to enjoy a delicious meal and good company. Overall, I would highly recommend La Hacienda to anyone looking for authentic, delicious Mexican cuisine in a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're in the mood for a hearty dinner or just want to grab some drinks and appetizers with friends, this restaurant is sure to exceed your expectations

We are new to San Antonio...Its hard to find real mexican restaraunts around here. Majority is tex-mex style & we are NOT fans! My daughter & I tried out this place & let me tell you the Food taste Great!..the Service is Excellent!...& getting the order out to you is Quick! This facility does NOT PLAY AROUND much less PROCRASTINATES when it comes to customers!! WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaraunt!! Salsa is thick not watered down & actually hot as it should be!...however would like to suggest serving light, hot crispy chips would be way better because they were a bit hard nd slightly warm. However I do Recommend Chicken flautas Plate & Beef fajitas are soft & tasty!!...PLUS the Refried beans reminds me of my mothers when I was growing up!! KUDDOS TO YOU GUYS!! FROM A HARD CORE CRITIC!!!

Service has gone downhill. My to-go order took 30 mins to make and was cold and wrong! (I should add my order being incorrect was nothing new but I still wanted to give them a chance.) When I got home and called to complain after waiting close to the 30 mins, the to-go man decided to argue with me telling me a man waiting 45 mins and didn’t complain as if that was a great argument. He proceeded to tell me I didn’t wait that long and he also had tables he needed to serve. Ultimately my food was cold and wrong so unsure what the 45 min wait time of another man and his other duties had to do with my food I paid for. He yelled he would refund my payment and when I asked for his name for reference he huffed and hung up… we’ll see if I get refunded… last time I pick this restaurant! (My nice husband switched his cold carne guisada plate for mine. We ended up throwing the food away. Also sorry to the people who might have ordered a crispy taco that they didn’t receive… it was in our bag! Don’t worry it was cold! We didn’t eat it.)

Unfortunately, our experience was not the best. ENVIRONMENT The environment was nice. The two at the individuals at the front were friendly and welcoming. They seated us immediately in one of their booths. The tables were clean and the music was nice. SERVICE Our hostess was pleasant, but inattentive. We never got a refill on our drinks and she didn’t check on us to see if the food was okay. It also took a very long time for us to get our food. FOOD The food looked yummy, but feel short. The beef was overcooked and tough to chew. The queso dip seemed to be velveeta with no added ingredients. And the other side items tasted bland. COSTS We ended up paying $68 for two people with 10% tip. We were also given a military discount on one item, even though we both served. Also, the item chosen was neither the most expensive nor least expensive. I’m not sure how they decide how to apply the discount. The items seemed overpriced when we could have gotten similar quality food with better service at a chain restaurant.

We absolutely love this restaurant. The food is always tasty, especially the refried beans. Usually we have great experiences but this last visit, the service left more to be desired. We saw our server to order drinks, order food, drop off food and that was it. Not a single table touch to ask if we needed anything or check on us. He would walk passed our table to take care of other tables but never stop at ours. We sat at our table, done eating, for at least 10 minutes and he never stopped by. At one point, he was leaning against the POS system desk on his phone. I had to flag him down and gesture that we were ready for the check.

Loved this place! We do not live in the area my husband and I were out on business and we were both hungry and saw this place. Inside the restaurant was clean and really nice. Our waiter was very attentive we never had to ask for a refill. The refried beans were some of the best I have ever had! My husband's puffy taco's were very delicious and he loved the rice! My cheese enchiladas were hot and really good! When were in the area we will be back!

I regretted even suggesting this place to my friend, especially after today. Our waiter Nathan was awkward, no real people skills. Just laid our menus down with Chips and what I thought was bean water. Turns out it was charro beans. I literally could count the beans in the bowl. Never said a word.... He came back 2 minutes later and asked if we were ready to order. I noticed he acted this way with all the tables he was serving. When he spoke he mumbled which made it hard to understand. Now for the food. Nothing special at all. The food was meh! Very hard to find poor Mexican food in San Antonio but this was pretty close. There is too much competition in the city for this lackluster service and quality of food. Very disappointed.

Quiet Sunday morning for breakfast on our first and last visit. My wife and I both ordered breakfast tacos. I’m wanted a huevos Al a Mexicana breakfast taco as I’ve had them before at other restaurants. I was informed by the very meek, quiet and soft spoken kid that it only comes in a platter. Mr. Owner you should think about putting it on your menu as a BF taco as I do not It eat as much as I used to as I’ve gotten older. The orange juice had to be returned as it was not fresh O.J. It looked super dark and it tasted like it came out of a can… Super nasty tasting. I understand the minimal breakfast menu. But, IMO, y’all could add some other breakfast options. It’s a shame as we are new to the area and love to support our local community and y’all just didn’t cut it. The eggs and chorizo was really good though and that is the only reason y’all got a 2.

Our Server provided poor service. We didn’t get the complimentary small bowl of beans, we had to ask for tortillas, we had to ask for refills. I wasn’t asked what type of beans I wanted. I was served whole beans. I wanted refried beans. To make our visit worse, I am a Rewards Member so I wanted to use my birthday reward which was $5.00 off the bill. Our Server said that the manager couldn’t get the Point of Sale system to accept my Loyalty Member number so I couldn’t use my birthday reward. The manager didn’t even come to our table to apologize.

Great food, surprisingly not expensive, great service, nice atmosphere. I don't live in San Antonio, but if I did, it would be my first choice for Mexican food. Felt the need to edit after reading other reviews. Food here is great. Not your typical salsa, chips looked homemade, you get charro beans as an appetizer as well and they are great. My mom cooks amazing homemade Mexican food, and I know she would like it here. The food we ordered was not your cookie cutter typical taste. It definitely had some love and originality in it. I've been to another restaurant similar to this one and my bill there was twice as much. Will be back on my next trip to San Antonio.

I ordered chicken enchiladas with the jalapeño cream sauce. It was very delicious. My daughter ordered an El Bambino kids plate. I will say it took quite a few minutes for our waiter to come up and greet us. 8 minutes actually, and that was pretty much how the rest of our meal went...It wasn't extremely busy, but maybe there is a staff shortage? That aside, he was very nice. We ordered a plate to go since the chicken enchiladas were so stuffed with chicken. Lol The restaurant is very clean (dust free) even with all of the beautiful decorations that sit so high up!!

Unfortunately this is one of those previous great restaurants that just didn’t survive the pandemic. Our server was nice enough but the kitchen must be horribly understaffed. We waited nearly 40 minutes for only two simple plates in a mostly empty restaurant and one plate still managed to come out not just cold but ice cold. We weren’t charged of course for my husbands plate but the whole point was to go out together, not for me to sit there like a weirdo and eat by myself…. We rarely bother going out to eat anymore but figured we’d give it a shot tonight… should have just stayed home and ate some hotdogs.

The atmosphere is great and my husband and I were excited to try a new place. The hostes was very friendly and accommodated our seating choice. The server was not very friendly and made us feel like we were an inconvenience . He did not ignore us, and our order was completed, but he was short, not asked us if we wanted a drink and never checked in on our table unless we waved at him. I ordered shrimp and I was sick that night and the next morning. My husband had the steak and it was great.

Came for date night and sat at the bar, the guacamole was ok not great but the salsa and their homemade chips are to die for but we had the fajitas the mix of the beef and the chicken and they were amazing and we went home with leftovers. The bartenders were super busy but the service overall was good and we would come back the place had the small neighborhood vibe but the food was incredible and they had a mariachi band walking around for music

Last night we had a family memorial dinner in honor of my mother who recently passed. The restaurant was amazing. We were able to make the party room reservation this past Saturday for yesterday evening for an extremely reasonable price. Ya'll had a party ahead of us but were able to get the room bussed and ready extremely quickly. Service was amazing, Adrian and Marla were fantastic, and always rushing to be of help. We never lacked for drinks or anything, you accommodated a group of 50 with split tickets. Great food, good service, and would definitely recommend this for any gathering again.

I was so excited to try their beef fajitas as I’ve heard they were good there. I got a plate of chewy tough beef. Not enjoyable at all. They weren’t sizzling -barely warm and had a ton of grilled onions but no peppers. A small dab of guacamole with the pico. They aren’t cheap and certainly not worth it. Try chicken instead. Waitress wasn’t very friendly and failed in a few areas. We will go back but hoping for a better experience next time.

Had a lunch date with the wife, she had the Helotes Delight, I had the beef fajita platter. The fajitas were phenomenal, especially the steak and the tortillas. Wife said the enchiladas were great as well. Our waitress was super friendly and stopped by to check on us just enough, and even chatted for a few minutes, but not so much that she overstayed. Ambiance- just as I expect/hope, felt great. Probably my favorite, was the music was set at the perfect volume. Probably only complaint, if it’s a complaint, is it was cold. Bring a sweater. Service - attentive, polite and enthusiastic Food- chips/salsa were great, bean soup was great. Asked for server recommendation on enchiladas, was brought jalapeño and verde chicken with beans and rice. Terrific. The churro bites were unexpectedly great and way more than i expected. Price- I was super surprised of the price for the quality. Great!

Waiter started taking our plates before we were done. On at least three occasions the waiter came by and said “are you done “ are you done are “ you done?” We noticed that other tables were getting the same treatment. It seemed that the waiters were doing the bus boy stuff too. The restaurant was half empty so I don’t know why they were rushing us out. Obviously never coming back here again ever

Today I arrived and for my surprise they removed the lunch menu since they open the one in Boerne. I was very disappointed. The food was just ok, the chips were good but not the charro beans, they were cold. I ordered the cream jalapeño enchiladas, those and the refried beans were very good but not the rice. It was dried. I grew up going to the Helotes location and for years after I married and moved away would still only go to that location. Finally my dad and I decided to try this location. DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Even though I enjoy Mariachis, not during lunch especially playing right by our table and we couldn't even communicate with our friends. We came from Fort Worth and music too loud. Once they went to other side it was alot better. Love puffy tacos but these were a little over cooked. They need to be lighter and softer. But really good flavor!! Great service and atmosphere. Love the family story. Would eat there again next time I'm in town.

Hostess finally had to come take our drink order after waiting 20min and not seeing a waiter. We gave our food order at the same time for fear we would not get any more service. Don’t dine here. There were more than enough servers, the restaurant had 9 tables with people and we waited 12 minutes and not one server came to our table to take our drink order. I proceeded to get up and ask the hostess if the server was aware there was a family of 4 in their section. He said they would be there with us shortly, we waited 5 more minutes and no one came.

All four of us ordered enchiladas with cream. They came out lukewarm. Granted it was a Tuesday night and it wasn’t very busy. The chips were very hard as if they were stale. The rice on the side didn’t taste fresh at all. I think the enchiladas would’ve tasted better if they were made more freshly. We took our 3month old baby and they had a little contraption that we could keep her in her car seat, so that was very nice. Everything else was highly mediocre.

This has always been one of my favorite places to come as I love their food but I have to drag my husband here because of the service. A couple of weeks ago I convinced him to go on a Sunday since I love their breakfast. We were seated in the bar. After 15 minutes, menus still in hand, we had not been even acknowledged. This was a perfect spot for a one on one meeting with our 9Round manager, Danny! Watched the World Cup for a bit and enjoyed their amazing “two step” plate. It was my first spinach enchilada experience and it did not disappoint. Time to work it off at 9Round kickboxing on Bulverde road!

The place is pretty don’t get me wrong but The worst first time, waiter spilled our water and my skillet plate looked good but the whole skillet was cold to the touch, barely had any meat, beef was very chewy, rice was cold. Service took long and wasn’t a lot of people either I would not go again. I feel sick now and that was the last place I ate.

We have eaten here several times and enjoyed the food, but tonight the food was terrible. The enchiladas were hard and sauce was like water. Puffy tacos were dry and tasteless. Rice was cold, refried beans were okay. Worse meal ever. We couldn’t even eat them. Will not be coming back.

Yes the food was good the server was great although the manager was rude and awful to me his name is Jesse at the restaurant in stone oak. I questioned my receipt and he was very rude and sangron (ugly attitude) I will not go back to that one again I will stick to the one in helotes. And I will call corporate or whoever I have to, to report him he should not be in that type of mood especially in his position.

The beginning service was quick and the food was delicious. We got the Shrimp Diablo and Carne tacos. The queso bowl with the meat was better than some places we've been to. For the dessert we ordered Tres leches cake and it wasn't bad but I would not order again. Only negative was waiting about 20 minutes for the check after finishing our dessert.

I used to come to this location frequently however the service became so hit and miss. Today we decided to give it one more try … it was the same. After waiting 20 minutes, we gave up and left. There were so many empty tables, it was irritating. If their wait staff was slammed, all they needed to do was tell us. Instead there was no communication at all.

Let's just say it's not bad food. They certainly have a lot of regulars who go there, they're very proud of their food. Their prices are just really high. I think people probably go there because they like the taste and because you can get good service, I'm just not in love with spending $75 for three people to go eat

Very busy this Memorial day weekend Saturday. The restaurant still managed to seat my daughter and I in less than 15 mins.. Food is delicious, and so very reasonably priced. I got the Carlo's special..2 cheese enchiladas, 1 tamale, 1 taco, rice, beans, guacamole, tomato.. The plate was LESS THAN $12.. very friendly, attentive service. Highly recommend.

  • Seth Dudley

Absolutely horrible. Ordered the jalapeño chicken enchiladas, chicken was dry and no flavor, sauce was thick as a gravy and plain, the rice was bearable and the beans were burnt to black! Seriously could have got something with more flavor from McDonald’s for half the price.

As for service, it always depends on who and what their days are filled with, what is left to be shared with others. Sometimes service is 5+, others 4-4.5. That's perfectly fine. Just add more water, or something like water or wine.

First time going and I have to say the service and food were great. Only issue we had was finding a bug floating around in one of the margaritas but, once notified, our server replaced the drink (with stronger tequila) and no extra charge. Worth your time and worth the money! Will return.

The restaurant was nice but we stood at the door waiting to be seated for 10 minutes. Once seated we continued to waited. My husband and I ordered enchiladas different variations but neither were good. Beyond that the manager lacked any customer service skills. We won't be going back.

Enjoyed the day off with brother Ted. One of our favorite Mexican restaurants. A bit disappointed in the portion size of the beans. Guacamole was bland. Flaming Quesoflamianado. Eat it hot or it becomes a chunk of solid goo.
