Embankment is a London Underground station in the City of Westminster, known by various names during its history. It is served by the Circle, District, Northern and Bakerloo lines. On the Bakerloo line and the Charing Cross branch of the Northern line, the station is between Waterloo and Charing Cross stations; on the Circle and District lines, it is between Westminster and Temple and is in Travelcard Zone 1. The station has two entrances, one on Victoria Embankment and the other on Villiers Street. The station is adjacent to Victoria Embankment Gardens and is close to Charing Cross station, Embankment Pier, Hungerford Bridge, Cleopatra's Needle, the Royal Air Force Memorial, the Savoy Chapel and Savoy Hotel and the Playhouse and New Players Theatres.
Few people realise the fact that Embankment Station is actually modelled on one of the tombs, that of Seti the 1st in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. A descendent of Giovanni Belzoni who was the first modern day person to open a new tomb in the valley was in the planning department of London Underground and as the confluence of the lines was mapped out with the District Line, The Northern Line and the Bakerloo Line she realised that there was an opportunity to mirror the structure of Seti’s tomb in the subterranean structure of the Embankments myriad lines and tunnels. So if you are a regular commuter and user of the Embankment complex then a study of KV17.
Embankment station is a main artery of the London Underground allowing you to switch from East-West Travel to North-South Travel. It's got a few nice shops within the Broadway and if you pass a Lolas Cupcakes you absolutely must indulge. Just outside is a range of eateries and a fantastic wine bar. It's a quick walk across to the South Bank and the London Eye which are both London musts. It's served by the Northern, District, and Circle Lines which make it one of the better connected spots in London.
The London Underground should be a wonder of the world! It’s just incredible, the history, the structures, the convenience. The price isn’t expensive either, I never buy an Oyster card anymore, I use my phone with Apple Pay to get in and out of each station, the price is capped no matter how many times you travel in a 24 hour period. Once you figure out which line you need and where to change should you need to it become very easy.
The center of London, so you know what to expect - it'll be busy, crowded and blatantly british. It serves the Circle, District, Northern and Bakerloo lines making this an awesome place to transfer to where you're going - and the waterloo bridge right next to it will give you stunning views over the city during sunset, and Trafalgar square will satisfy all your touristy needs
It sometimes can be a bit of a faff to navigate and interchange between the multiple tube lines here via the maze of escalators but overall, it's OK I guess. Not too far away from Charing Cross however the Bakerloo Line platforms can become rather stuffy, even during mild or cold weather. There's no step free access here at this station.
The bridge near the station is great point to stop at for a view of the city and the iconic London eye. Atop the bridge you can have good phtos and videos with the London Eye backdrop. If you're looking for an iconic photo of travel to London this is one place where you'd get an amazing shot without all the crowd!
The story – told by John Bull – starts with a woman bursting into tears at Embankment in 2016, begging staff to tell her where ‘the voice’ had gone. At this specific station and on this specific line it isn’t the same announcement you’ll be hearing, and the story behind it is heartbreaking.
A big underground station. Four line of the underground have stopped here. The people here are too crowded. A lot of people just standing in front of the map, so they blocked the road. The station is very close to the Thames, the views out of the station is really beautiful.
This station is served by the Bakerloo Circle District & Northern lines. Can be very busy this station with lots of passengers interchanging for different lines. Inside the station is a bit of a maze getting around. There is no disabled access only stairs and escalators.
Easily mistaken for charing cross tube station, this station is located towards the thames edge of charing cross train station. It's one of the many close stations next to the main tourist areas and although it's abit tatty, it can get very crowded at times.
Made my journey home. No lifts. No toilet. Finding your way to Bakerloo and Northern line platforms can be confusing. Whilst there is a wheelchair accessible entrance - from Villiers Street - there is nothing else to attract wheelchair users.
I have to say, I really like this station as I find it less crowded and less confusing than others in central London. It's near Charing Cross, Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square and you can easily walk to most parts of central London.
This area is perfectly named as 'Embankment' because there is a river next to it (The Thames [pronounced 'Tems'] for those of you who are obsessed by detail) which the area 'embanks' and which is 'ment' to be here; hence, embank-ment.
Victoria Embankment is part of the Thames Embankment, a road and river-walk along the north bank of the River Thames in London. It runs from the Palace of Westminster to Blackfriars Bridge in the City of London. #LVPMoment✔️
Great station and good location ! Embankment is a London Underground station in the City of Westminster, known by various names during its history. It is served by the Circle, District, Northern and Bakerloo lines.
Nice station in a great location. A large tube station. The structures and convenience are excellent. With good signage, all platforms are easily accessible. Peaceful. Very easy to get to and from.
One of the best station and easy to switch the trains if you clearly read the sign board. For newbie it might be a problem. Take the help from people and staff to reach towards the right platform.
The station is lovely and clean. My only criticism is going down to the Bakerloo line the signage could be a bit clearer and better posted. Otherwise London Transport and TFL are doing a great job
Went through this station to go onto the Bakerloo line. Very convenient and also good service. I was actually the only one on the Bakerloo line platform. Good for stations like Waterloo and more!
The Tube station at the bottom of the Embankment. You can get the Circle and District lines from here. You can also access the Embankment Pier to the Southbank, or walk up to the Strand.
Thanks to mathew (platform officer/assistant on northern line -north bound). Excellent job although this job is boring for many but never gets boring when you always have big smile on
Perfect tube station to gain access to the best parts of London from the London Eye to Big Ben. It can be busy at times, so time perfectly to go on the station to get the tube.
Good station, but could use some upgrades to the markings for transfers. I found a few that were lacking when coming off Bakerloo and needed to get to the Circle/District line.
Easy to change between lines and with multiple tube lines it's a useful station to get to different parts of London and this station is only a short walk to river services.
Good links to most of London and a two minute walk to Charing Cross Station. Could do with a bit of redecoration. Tube itself is very regular so never much waiting around.
It is not step free, there are stairs to the district and circle lines and escalators to the Northern line, Bakerloo line is accessed by both stairs and escalators.
Normal tube station. Easy to change between lines. Close to the Trafalgar Squere. Great view from the bridge near the station (eg. London Eye). London tube is
Easy to access tube station. Has a bridge beside that takes you to the South bank and is situated just below Charring Cross station for links out of London.
Great station with many lines. The staff here is extrenely helpful. Would be great if it is a little more accessible for people who cant do stairs
Busy tube station , the bakerloo and district and circle line serve all stop here. The station is a short walk to the south bank and London Eye
TFL When it works it's the best transport system in the world. But when it gose wrong then there is usaly a alternative that can be used.
Lovely station on the District Line. Unfortunately there were big delays. We had to change twice to get to Richmond. Took over an hour
Good station in central london with good connections close to charing cross station three cash macines. Plenty of coffee shops nearby
Busy station with a few tube lines. Located near Thames river in a heart of London. There are many shops and cafés nearby. Good.
A very pretty but a street with lots happening and location, also with a small park area and close to The Thames too.
The platform is quite small so it felt like I had to stand with my back against the wall, so that I wouldnt fall in.
Quiet day but very efficient trains all on time for a change, easy to access all platforms with good signage
Great for a walk by the river. Lots of places to sit and huge variety of eateries. Museums, theatre and art
One of the central hubs of TfL's underground network - has good connections to most parts of the city.
Great area, big and not a lot of those pesky guys trying to sell you stuff as soon as you get there :)
Nice station in a very good position. Good options of cafes and restaurants just outside the station.
Found it easy to get to other stations. Can be packed on a busy day, but you just have to persevere.
It's a tube station. What's to experience? Waited. Train came. Doors open. I entered. Train left
My destination station since November 2020. Always a joy to emerge by the Thames. Praise be!!
A bit chaotic at the moment with all the upgrades. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Clearly signposted, a couple of little shops with handy gifts, coffee and food available.
Had to use this station as all buses stopped very short from Picadilly to Marble Arch.
Usual hustle and bustle of the city but all of the platforms are clearly signed.
Great links with multiple tube lines. Staff always available and happy to help.
I like it because it has the old ''Mind the gap'' thing on the northern line.
very clean and 'central' station with lots of things to see and do near by.
Evacuation of Embankment Tube Station in London (like in a sci - FIM Movie.
Always a nice station to enter, the staff are always helpful and polite .
Busy tube station, 5 minutes walk from Trafalgar Square and Covent Garden
More convenient than Charing Cross station to access trains to Waterloo.
Very comfortable station with standby integrity officers to assist you.
Ideal location short walk to Leicester Square and Picadilly Circus.
Good station. Peaceful always. Very easy to get to or leave from
Great access to Covent Garden and the strand through the park.
Nice station. Mandatory for change to District, Circle Line
Good location short walk to the Trafalgar Square
Good links to Trafalgar square and charing cross
clear signs staff available to.assist and grlp
Great view from Embankment Pier on London Eye
The station is even more confusing than most
