This is like one of my favorite stations on the entire SF BART line. By far! It is right in the mix, baby! Downtown San Francisco! I mean, the action is here most definitely. I use this particular station mostly all the time because I jump on the BART train at Garage G and BART station at SFO and use it to connect between the airport and the Downtown SF location. It is a very short walk to the Salesforce Transit Center from the. Embarcadero station. And from there you can take plenty of buses to wherever you choose. They have really cleaned this area up by the way. It looks so nice, and the sidewalks are mostly all clean. The train station itself is of the utmost beauty. They really do a good job on it daily. My guess is some of their best employees are stationed here. And it shows.
The BART is a classic example of how San Francisco's mass transit is dated and a failure. The stations are DISGUSTING! Since San Francisco is a sanctuary city, the police don't stop criminals from walking around the station naked and stealing from children. The trains are dated and gross; people will spit and cough on you. Teenagers from Oakland ride over and back to rob tourists (sanctuary city). Overall a classic example of how corrupt politicans misuse tax dollars and don't fix the transit they constantly praise. San Francisco and the state of California's politicans need to go to Portland and Seattle and see what happens when their politicans actually practice what they preach. The MAX and Sounder actually run on time and are clean.
The Embarcadero BART station as well as the entire system has improved significantly in recent years in terms of comfort, cleanliness, and safety. Prior to the pandemic, Embarcadero would be very busy during peak commute hours. While still one of the busiest stations on the BART system, the station is far less crowded as BART recovers from the pandemic. The station is a little dim (although there are plans in place to change that). The station has both BART and Muni trains stopping here and it can be easy for tourists to confuse BART and Muni. Overall, this is a typical BART station that is fairly clean and okay to navigate.
Not that happy with Embarcadero. Friend and I travelled through here with our cases on the way to the airport. We went in through the barriers but the escalator was broken so we had to go out through the barriers then into the elevator. BART charged us $5.85 when leaving the station we'd entered within a minute of going through the gates the first time. This mean that we no longer had enough money on our tickets to get out at the airport and had to pay extra even after explaining to the agent at the airport what happened. He had no change and I only had large notes left forcing us to over pay.
This Bart station is always packed! If you can avoid this stop, I recommend getting off on a different stop and walk/bus after. Yes, the location is great as it is close to the piers and shopping areas, but because it is the first stop in the city (or last stop going out to the east bay), it is almost impossible to get on a train at this stop. Bart employees sometimes regulate/stop passengers from going down to the platform because of congestion issues. Sardine-packed during peak times when city workers commute to and from work!
One of the better BART stations but it’s almost always packed - both the trains and the station. It’s the last stop before the transbay tube. Americans seem to forget that you need to fill the train all the way in so others can continue to get on. The station itself is pretty dirty by world metro standards, and is usually either boiling hot or freezing cold. But, all things considered, it’s probably the best BART station in San Francisco.
I managed to take pictures of the Transbay Tube, but it's too dark. Shortly before the northbound portal in BART platforms, there is electrical noise, and it's much louder, probably from light in this station. It is almost dark near the 1st car of the BART train heading through Oakland. Fare evasions were common. I see a man jumping down the tracks, and he got back up safely. The train arrives three minutes after the incident normally.
It smells funny and there is a lot of platinum built up in the dust from generations of catalytic converters driving past and on the bridge, but there is hardly a place that better encapsulates all things Bay Areas all at one time to the same extent as that stretch of road. From the bridge, past the weird monument, past the ritzy restaurants and the homeless encampment, somewhere just beyond that is the soul of the Bay Area.
Subway Bart station which is at the heart of the SFO city. It has other public transportations as well. There are no kiosk to help public with buying tickets . The only way to get in is by swiping clipper card or by Google Pay/Apple pay app linked to digital clipper. Bart terminals will be crowded. Lot of people jump the gate and don't swipe their clipper or digital clipper. No one is there to look around such incidents.
Better than Civic station, which in turn is the worst, worse than Montgomery and Powell, so If you can avoid it take a train back one or two stations, which may be less crowded and cleaner; you might even get a seat in Powell; so it’s worth spending an extra ten minutes, if you have the time, to onboard at a different station (Montgomery is literally two minutes Bart ride away).
Grading on a public transportation curve..., it was clean, on time, with a safe feel. Purchasing tickets is a little confusing with 2 entirely different rail systems in 1 location, but the folks in the booth were helpful in pointing in the right direction. The ATM style ticket machines are set up to make extra money off of tourist (needs to be updated to touch screen).
It can smell bad is parts of the train station. Muni Metro and BART at this station. From SF/Peninsula: last stop before heading to East Bay. From East Bay: First stop in SF. Get off here to Ferry Building/Financial District. If you're getting off from BART, and go up escalator, you would pass by the Muni Metro platform.
While certain details May categorize the four downtown SF BART stations, they're really more alike than distinct: Large, noisy and not unattractively designed but not very appealing. This station is really not the sort of place you want to linger about but then again that's really the point.
Round trip for the airport is 21$. It’s expensive, one way with Uber is almost the same. If you are more than one person, just take Uber. You can see the prices attached to the ticket machine for the travel. Not crowded but trains are dirty!
If u r waiting for an N train, here is what u hear: L, L, J, J, K, L....lovely. why is it so hard to space trains out?! Hate Mini and how unpredictable it is. U will get to your destination, sure...eventually. Ugh!!!
The better Bart stations for THE CITY, mainly if you want to get to the waterfront, coming back to the East Bay, depending on what time of time you get on the Bart at this location, trains tend to be full.
Last station of SFO downtown, connect to most of the Bay area, has many ticket windows and even people who can help you with your travel. Try buying a clipper card if you are new to the city.
Very dark and the stairs aren't too easy to navigate if you have a bike because they turn. Other than the darkness, this is one of the better aesthetically pleasing BART stations.
The bart train is probably the easiest way to get from the airport to the city center. The station Embarcadero is huge and you can loose orientation. Just go up and find your way.
BARTs on time, yet dirty along with all the other stations. As expected though, with all the people they have coming through! Beautiful views once you step out of the station.
Super crowded station at peek weekday commuting hours. There are no services or amenities in the station, though there’s often someone working at the MUNI or BART entrances.
Thankfully this is in the financial district, so it's well guarded and tends to not get too rough. But be careful as the tip of market street empties out after work hours.
Useless service. First tram kicks everyone off he's going home second goes past empty stood 50 minutes at night in SF freezing. Worst transportation system in the world
Worst. Cleaners are rude, place always smells, muni trains are constantly late and breaks down. Absolute disgrace to a city like San Francisco. Absolute disgrace.
rembering seeing president barak Obama and the whole motorcycle police force in the black suv while riding the trolly just like Daniel from mr.rogers neighborhood
I was safe in there alone late at night but you have to be prepared because you never know who or what is waiting when you get up the escalator even in daytime.
Nice big station. Can be a bit confusing at times. Staff is courteous but busy so prepare well what you'll ask them cause they have like 1-2 seconds to answer.
Just fine of a station. Area is the "good part of town" and so you will probably feel pretty safe walking to/from this station no matter the time of night.
My first time to visit San Francisco. This is the best place to stay. You can get around the town from here very easy and convenient,
Has a flesh eating bacteria and smells like urine and feces. Staff is courteous, especially considering their working conditions.
Large station, but also busy like the others. Get off here to view the embaracdero waterfront and the embarcadero mall.
Convenient alighting station but seems like the place is not that maintained, number of homeless people in this area.
Excelente lugar!!
This is the last BART station before it goes underground to Oaklamd. Easy access to thr Financial District
Convenient location for the nearby pier or shopping. However, gets rather quiet and unpopulated at night.
Second labor strike this year! Traffic backed up and waiting on freeways for hours! Thanks Bart!
Amazing place !! You will get easy connectivity to Fremont . There are no rest rooms on station
Transit syste very efficient. Easy to understand how to get around from a tourist's perspective
Music, food, art, 1,000's of personalities, makes for great pictures and people watching.
Probably the only station in the Big city of San Francisco that I have given 5 stars...
Train late for 30 more minutes but the BART staff kept telling us only 8 mins
without fail: either an escalator, entrance, or elevator is closed/broken...
Good location close the Waterfront to start a tourist city walk in SF.
Dirty, abandoned smelly. Just like always...unusually a bit more empty.
This city has a very speedy rail system that is also easy to navigate.
Dirty and smells atrocious. Trains are never on time and over crowded.
Overly crowded. But way less homeless people than Powell st station.
A bit hard to tell when your at your stop since you are underground.
It's hot and overly crowded but that is financial district for you
Cheap, low-brow local saloon. No frills, but that's how I like it.
Worst station in the world for the worst train system in the world
Convenient, but hot and lousy lighting. Not my favorite station.
Clean when I was there and the station agents were friendly.
Perfrormers make their shows, and you can wait with smile :)
One of the cleaner BART stations in Sang Francisco downtown.
Convenient location, but dirty as hell. Don't blame them.
Google does not clearly indicate to use the Bart train.
It is a fine station, but it often reeks of substances.
At least the floors here are not as sticky as at Powell
You're in a bart station, so expect the smell of urine.
The last BART station before crossing The Bay bridge.
A beautiful place to see really enjoy it sightseeing
Fresh and popular spot for visitors and residents.
New Years Eve fireworks were straight fire …
Dark, no bathrooms, weird smell. Welcome to SF!
People use the elevators as a public bathroom.
Ghost town due to pandemic... Less traffic...
Bart is a pleasure to take and a money saver.
Last subway station. Usually the cleanest
A great walk along the San Francisco bay
Incredibly rude staff at the gate (Bart)
Great spot to watch the pride parade.
BEAUTIFUL AND RELAXING ON THE WATER
Really cool to get around Bart!!
Easy access to the BART system.
Busy.. if you’re there at 5!!
No credit card allowed to pay
Delays due to track problem.
Good Location Always Crowded
The best Bart station ever
Excelente para el turista.
I love this crazy place.
Easy to get to East bay
Powerful architecture
Standard bart station
Very Cheap And Quick
Pretty good station.
It's good but gross
Beautiful and clean
