(Start Edit: From 3 stars, to 4 stars, now down to 1 star. Last interaction shows the lack of compassion, failure to innovate, poor planning and strategy, poor facilities management and poor Client Services. The weather was bad with continuous rain for the past few days. Upon arrival, we had to queue to get into the screening mobile station before getting into the hospital. No problem, that is procedure. The location of the station is across the entrance in the open. I am not well myself, even though I may look well. I took my 77 year old mum for a follow up check after having a procedure done by a vascular surgeon. So mobility is a problem, together with having heart disease, chronic diabetes & arthritis, etc. She is extremely high risk. I am at high risk as well. Another lady waiting in queue to get into the station, was hopping along with a cast on her leg and using the aid of a crutch. There were about 5 of us in the queue waiting 2 mins per turn, so I waited with my mother for about 5 to 10 minutes, in the rain, then expected to walk up metal stairs to get into the mobile unit. It's slippery, the stairs are higher than normal. Are the people who plan this retarded? What happened to easy accessibility? Places planned in institutions such as hospitals have things such as ramps, etc, for people with mobility issues and in wheel chairs and in casts and people that are post op patients that come in for check ups. Besides that, I know many places that see slippery surfaces as areas of concern when it comes to personal injury and liability. They usually place anti-slip strips on steps, similar to that of sand paper. To get grip on smooth surfaces such as stairs which can be seen as potentially dangerous. Logical. But not for this place. The mobile unit could be placed in the basement, in the parking, with gazebos next to it, with it moved next to the parking with the under cover canopy. Basically there are a host of options where, if people used their brain, could be more convenient, easier, and safer by moving it to a better location, instead of making people that are old, not well, injured, sick, at high risk, etc. stand in line for minutes in the rain - to get into a building managed by you - to give you business. Does it make sense? It's actually pathetic, disgusting and sick. Pity the people that treat their patients as such. Lack of empathy. Lack of compassion. Lack of logic and intelligence. It's a shame, I used to sing praises of this hospital. Now it's just a sad place. My experiences here are getting bad to worse. Further more, your outsourced security service stinks. Poor communication skills by security staff. Lack of understanding. Poor attitude. People that have no desire in life and who wish to exercise some sort of only authority that they would enjoy in their lives - to make other people's lives miserable. All of this together is mixed into a recipe for disaster and poor state of affairs. I can only see this well equipped hospital with talented doctors and staff go down the drain. - End Edit) Usually a very good experience visiting the hospital. It's neat, modern, clean, well staffed by trained people. Positive energy and lots of light which helps patients to feel good, which aids in the recovery process. The last visit, I need to make note of 2 issues. The security guards were not very helpful and lacked communication skills. There were 3 of us in the car and he only handed us one screening form. I had to fill the other 2 forms at the screening station, had he been doing his job correctly, I would have filled in all three forms in the safety and convenience of my car. Instead, I had to delay the queue and borrow a pen from the staff manning the screening station. All this while we are trying to practise social distancing. Poor service from unqualified staff is becoming a norm now. Then the hand sanitizer dispenser which is foot operated at the entrance, the very first thing that you come in contact with, was not working. Sad again. But all in all, one of the better hospitals that I have visited.

Parents please note: The paediatric ward and more specifically ward 2, the oncology for kids section is just terrible. My toddler never received food for 1 and a half days. It was reported and still nothing was done. They offer parents tea&coffee, be warned take your own cups and cutlery...there is none. Yes this was reported too and nothing was done. There are no cups or water jugs for your kids either. Yet we pay private hospitals rates! We had to bring this from home to a PRIVATE HOSPITAL!!!!When you fortunate enough to get a hostess to take your order they send the wrong food! Parents are offered a "free" sandwich every morning, that I paid R24 for just because I asked for it to be toasted. The pamphlets of the ward describe it to be free. Trust me it's not! All you get after complaining is a sorry and despite my complaints they continued to mess up for the next 2 days. Is this what you as a parent want for your children? No food no cups no water? Think this through. I have taken this to management whom have NO CLUE WHAT IS GOING ON IN THEIR WARDS. THEY NEED TO PAY ATTENTION AND BE TRAINED. I've told them this too! Albeit this horrible story I CANNOT FAULT THE NURSES OR OUE PAED WHOM WERE EXCELLENT! Management is at fault they need to pull up their socks! They not checking on their wards &their staff. Why no cups or food for kids Check you wards management and treat sick kids properly. Its a disgrace!!!!!

To whom it may concern: It is with great concern I write an complaint regarding the poor value chain of the Ethekwini heart hospital in Durban. Upon entrance to the hospital I have to answer the security personal questions as to why I am at the hospital before I'm granted entrance to his satisfaction. There is no reception and I'm directed to the emergency room. I waited over an hour for the patient to be treated at the triage room before a doctor could see him. Mind his severe condition and constant complaints that his reported multiple times to the nurse. The security guards are at the room assisting nurses which is shocking as they are not qualified for any assistance whether it be admin or escorting a patient via a wheel chair. I spoke to duty nurse manager who has the worse attitude and abrupt in her demeanor, informing her severity of the patient's condition which was completely ignored, please view your cameras for the conversation. 'Who clicks her tongue and rolls her eyes at my complaint' With an empty hospital, poor service and management. It's quiet shocking and concerning, noting that this is a private hospital. I brought in a patient who was in severe pain and condition, who should of been treated with the utmost urgency. This is not a restaurant, you are dealing with people's lives. Over 4 hours at the hospital pleading for admission.

I was very sceptical about being admitted to this hospital after reading the most recent reviews. It actually gave me anxiety about being admitted for surgery. I have to say, don't judge the hospital by the reviews, everyone's experience will be different. I thankfully had an absolute pleasurable experience here and would recommend to anyone. The staff and nurses in high care as well and the maternity ward were brilliant! Always friendly, patient and ready to greet you with a smile. They help make your stay that much more comfortable and pleasant. The wards are always clean, including bathrooms and toilets. You have access to multiple dstv channels as well as radio stations. The food is delicious! Almost like fine dining, theres s variety of options and they cater for all personal requirements. Definitely a hospital I will be recommending! Job well done to all the staff, doctors and nurses.

Patients go in with one issue, spend months in here and then there's more complications that are unrelated to the reason for being admitted. Hospital staff do not provide information easily - one needs to pry it out - and it is very hard to get face time with doctors. My aunt died in 2022 - a few days prior to her death she was showing positive signs of recovery and then she died of an infection. I requested the policies and procedures related to locum doctors and what information can be provided to next of kin - because everything is 'stable' until its not and this was not provided and its 2024. I even submitted a PAIA manual request. No response and the information requested was not sensitive - not related to patient files or staff members. I have now decided to escalate this matter to the Information Regulator.

Really appalled at the service at this hospital! My mother who is diabetic and is 67 years old was given an appointment for 11 am and was told that she should not eat or drink anything after 7am. Fast forward to 3pm and she was still not attended to! Mind you this is a pensioner who is a diabetic. My dad was told to be on standby to pick her up at 4pm. After waiting and waiting, I eventually called into the hospital and was attended to by their staff who have no understanding of what professionalism is, and we were told that she would be kept overnight ! This hospital appears to be a moneymaking operation that has no care for the wellbeing of its patients . We have always used Umhlanga Hospital due to the reputation this hospital has . I am so regretful of taking my elderly mother there ! Stay away folks !

My first admission on the 3rd of February 2023 was really amazing and enjoyable, then I had to come back on the 22nd of February 2023 for an operation,High care staff was really helpfull and caring,up until on the 24th of February 2023 when i was transferred to Surgical ward,I was in pain and had difficulties with my Asthma and I rang the bell for the nurses to assist me but they didnt come and I tried to reach for my pump but it fell and on the other hand Im in pain, they came after 20 minutes and I was not able to talk because of the asthma attack that I had. I wish that they never do what they did to me to someone else,I saw my life ending on that day because of the pain and the asthma that I was going through and there was no tag on my hand that says im asthmatic

Pediatric ward. Comparing to Netcare Umhlanga. Pros of Ethekwini- Nice room, private bathroom, nice TV channels, free earphones, IV machine is more modern and doesn't have constant faults (didnt beep for the 36 hours we were there). Cons- parents meal not included, kids meals were all spicy, wifi doesnt work, Café downstairs very expensive R119 a sandwich, parent sofabed hard and small, nurses didn't seem as knowledgeable as one would hope- couldn't work out the flow rate for a 6 hour IV meds, played aroundwith the numbers for like 15min. Nurses called me to recovery room after my son woke up from anesthesia, should have been before so that he wasn't alone in a strange place.

I can't thank Dr. Shelembe (MPO952826) enough for her kind and patient treatment of me all day today. I had an issue with my medical aid but she went above and beyond trying to get me the help I needed. We often find it easy to complain but there are such good people in the world and Dr Shelembe is one of them, we need to give credit where it's due . By the way her shift ended at 20h00 yet she was at the hospital until 21h45 helping me, and still so gracefully! so all I can say is WOW, and thank you. I hope this absolutely genuine feedback gets back to you, and you are recognised for your great work.

I delivered my beautiful baby boy on the 02/12/2022 at Ethekwini heart hospital, I have to say hats off to the amazing maternity ward staff! I was extremely nervous for this experience as it’s my first baby, but the sisters in the maternity ward made things so easy for me! With so much of compassion and love for the mamas in the ward. A very special sister Duma, was absolutely amazing to me, with our heart to heart chats, she got me through what I expected to be one of the scariest times in my life! Keep up the great work! You give us first time mamas hope.

If I were to rate zero I would. 01/02/2023 had to wait from 11 o'clock in the morning for admission to 15:01 pm in the afternoon, I was admitted @16:00 pm MICU had bad client service from the doctor (Dr Mohun) and day shift nurses. I had to beg them to attend to me the following day and I was told my condition is not that bad, nurses said they take orders from the doctor so I had to wait I spend the whole day nothing is done. Friday morning waited for the doctor but he never attended to me bad attitude so I left.

The best experience I’ve had, gave birth to my bundle of joy on the 18th May…& all went smoothly. Maternity staff is just amazing, my gynaecologist Dr Kesene is the best, his bed side manner is impeccable. The theatre staff & the anaesthetist made sure I was comfortable & allayed all my anxiety…from the cleaner to the hostess everyone was just friendly, to the matron doing her rounds, I cannot find fault anywhere. Your services were the best. Thank you

Amazing hospital. Mom went in to have a tumor removed from her neck by Dr SK Naidoo. Amazing Dr, Wonderful Hospital. All staff, Security, nurses, receptionists, cleaning staff, pharmacy staff, everyone, were polite, kind and very helpful. Nursing staff in both icu and surgical ward were loving, attentive and always available. Food was very well presented and nutritious. Thank you so much for your care. And mom and I highly recommend this hospital.

  • a naidoo

The staff are so so good. I had my first baby here on 25th of August. Booked under israel. All staff in labour ward are so kind, patient, they talk you through things. The hospital and ward is super super clean as well. The 1 nurse who assisted me with the delivery is so so good. So kind so patient, she rubbed my back , like she so warm and caring. No matter how far you live, I suggest having your baby here.

  • Yahuwa's Warrior

I went in for a Lumbar Decompression and Stabilization operation. ICU/High Care staff that dealt with me were disgusting human beings. When I think of my experience I think crimes against humanity. As for the staff in Surgical 2, there were a few in top positions as well as a couple of nurses that fall under the same category as the ICU staff. I will be putting in a formal complaint.

  • Noxolo Miya

This hospital offers the Worst service!!! It's like you're in a public hospital and you have to BEG them to attend to you. Ordered & paid for some sandwiches for supper at 6pm (because we were admitted after dinner) and we only got them at 11:30 pm . Nurses at the pediatric ward DONT care. I'm having thee most horrific stay at this hospital... DO NOT recommend it for anyone.

  • Antoinette Miller

The staff in the pead ward are wonderful But I would really start looking at upgrading the "beds" that you expect parents to sleep on seriously For a private hospital you'd think you could do better than a lumpy pull out chair that's rock hard. How is an overtired parent with severe back pain from your horrible sleeper couches suppose to take care of an ill baby

  • Courtney Fortuin

Dr Shiraaz Gafoor (cardiologist) at Lenmed eThekwini private hospital has a horrible bed side manner. He is extremely sarcastic and he dismisses your concerns. Not the kind of Doctor you want to access your heart. His staff is just as unpleasant and rude. If you have concerns about palpitations be prepared to leave with him saying you have a mental disorder.

  • sme Mhlongo

Admission Desk is so slow, lady comes in with blonde hair sits down does not call anyone then off outside to sit down and speak to her cell whilst patients are waiting to be admitted what a joke, Never ever coming into this Hospital, No care what so ever. I would not recommend this Hospital read the reviews they speak for themselves.

  • Wally Bodin

Found the staff to be friendly and professional. The hospital was clean. Unfortunately the process to receive my refund on excess co-payment is laborious and I had to threaten action if I did not receive my refund. 14 working days which you advise patients is simply not good enough for such a large hospital group.

  • Fezeka Zondi

Absolute rubbish of a hospital you will die of hunger before you even die from what ever landed you in hospital. My mother was admitted during the day and did not get lunch or supper! A diabetic patient who needs to take their medication. Talk about a spaza shop of a hospital. The service is seriously appalling.

  • Pearl Manakazi

Worst experience ever!!! I was involved in a car accident got transferred from kingsway to Ethekwini, worst 7days of my life. The nurses and doctors are all rude, the only doctor that was nice was Dr pillay my plastic surgeon. Dr Dasi is the worse she is mean as hell. Never!!! …

  • Nikkita Chetty

Sister reddy is of surgical ward 3 is rude and has no compassion. She was the worst nurse I’ve come across in my entire life. Her attitude towards a minor who has come out of surgery was awful and unkind. She should not be in the profession with her horrible and unkind attitude.

  • Chantal Motilall

I was admitted in June 2022 and whilst I was incredibly unwell, the doctors and nurses in the surgical ward were phenomenal. Special mention to Dr M Govender, Dr SP Moodley, Matron Houston, for their compassion and professionalism. Highly recommended.

The staff at the Emergency unit are disgusting. The guard refused to let my daughter in with my wife despite it clearly stating that 1 person could accompany her. The nurses at reception took 45 minutes to phone to admit her and did not

I was left to suffer in pain without being attended to, instead of giving me pain killers maybe I was told about a pharmacy which will open after hours for them to order a gel for me.
