I wanted to share my experience with Dr. Smith and eye care for animals. My little girl Nadia has been a patient of Dr. Smiths for four years. He was treating her for progressive cataracts in both eyes that were genetic and appeared when she was about 2 years old. Cataracts progressed and got worse, we finally decide with Dr. Smith that it was time for surgery on her right eye to try and save some sight. Being a patient of his for so long we trusted everything he said and followed every recommendation. On August 10, 2022, we took her in for the recommended pre-op testing, $1143.00 to make sure she was a good candidate for surgery. Surgery was scheduled for August 16 at 8 am. The surgery cost to repair one eye without a lens is $5560.82. She seemed to be okay after surgery, she hated the cone around her neck and was confused, but I took the week off work and we slept on a mat in the living room so that she would not be left alone for even a minute. On August 20th she began to act odd, she was tired and acted depressed. I called Dr. Smith and was told by Tracy that she sounded sick and that I should take her to a doctor because it wasn't related to the eye. So I did, our vet said she was depressed and sent us home. An hour later she began to vomit and we took her to the Animal Emergency Center of Las Vegas and Henderson. This is the same office where Dr. Smith holds his Friday clinic. Nadia pass away from cardiac arrest at 9 pm that night. We ran to the clinic while they were still doing CPR. The Emergency clinic staff was great, but Dr. Odea could not explain what happened. They have not given her any medications, she was only there for a short while. On the following Monday was her follow-up visit with Dr. Smith, the receptionist called and said that they were sorry for our loss and how bad we must feel because we chose to have the surgery but we did have a $252 refund on prepaid visits. It is currently September 10th and I have not heard one word from Dr. Smith, not one word. I wanted to give him time to review her records and give me an explanation, but nothing. For all the patients at this clinic I just want you to know, that Dr. Smith put a price on my little girl's head of $6703.82 minus the $252.00. Every surgery has rick, as a nurse I know, and this surgery is no different. When you go to the clinic however please note that you are nothing more than a paycheck, they seem nice up front but all Dr. Smith wants is your money. Dr. Smith where are you? Call me. Tell me why my baby died 4 days after you operated on her. Be a professional and show the care that I thought you had for your long-time patient. TELL ME WHY.

Dr. Smith saved my cat's life. We were getting care for his glaucoma elsewhere but after months of treatment they couldn't figure out what was going on. Got a second opinion at Eye Care for Animals and Dr. Smith from our first visit wasted no time not only diagnosing the underlying issue, but also was very direct and straightforward about the seriousness of it and need for action. We trusted his diagnosis and recommendations and felt we had to quickly make the very difficult decision of having our baby's eye removed. Once we did everyone at this facility was professional and patient with our questions, phone calls and mini-mega freakouts leading up to the day of his surgery. After the surgery they confirmed in a biopsy what Dr. Smith had suspected. Our cat had a malignant level two melanoma growth in his eye which was the underlying issue causing the discoloration and glaucoma in his eye. Now after seeing an oncologist since his surgery and completing the first rounds of immunotherapy my baby has no signs of metastasis and happier and healthier than he was before he had the surgery. Who knows if that would have been the case if had we not received such a quick and accurate diagnosis from Dr. Smith and waited just a few months longer. Also Dr. Smith did such an amazing job with his eye. Today after just about two months he looks absolutely great. Cute as ever with his one eye. He is happier, healthier and we really feel like has a new lease on life. I'm in awe of how much it's helped him and I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. We can't thank Dr. Smith and his office enough. Anyone reading this and facing the tough choice of enucleation of your pet's eye know, without hesitation, you are in great hands with Dr. Smith and his team at Eye Care for Animals.

Our little Chi is 12 years old and developed cataracts in both eyes. The left eye was particularly bad. She would often run into things are get startled easily. Our regular vet said she was beyond being able to have corrective surgery. Not accepting that as a final answer, we found these guys. She went in for her intial appointment with high hopes and doubt. The staff are very friendly and her appointments are always on time. Dr. Smith came to the car and explained everything. We also went over it again with his wonderful staff. We decided the surgery was a must! If we could restore her eyesight it would a miracle. It's very expensive though. Our Chi is acting like a puppy and being able to watch her, see her reactions to being able to see was well worth it!! They can't do it themselves and as fur parents there's really no other choice to make. I know we would want to see again if we could. We are very pleased this far and are here for her 3 week check-up. We highly recommend this hospital, Dr. Smith and the wonderful staff! We are truly thankful for the hope and life they brought back to our baby! God bless them especially during this time of Covid19. They are still putting their lives at risk to help people and fur babies. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

We adopted Jett with a semi-known eye issue. We knew he had an ulcer. Though we tried resolving his ulcer at our regular vet first (and have zero complaints with the way they treated us), sometimes you truly need a specialist. I read all the reviews and chose Eye Care for Animals. We made an appointment and later had our vet send a referral too. Though it took awhile to get in, even with a referral, we were waitlisted and got a call very last minute. We took it! Everyone has been friendly and professional. Dr. Smith knew what was going on and has walked us through everything. Dr. Smith, Janelle, and Morgan have been wonderful with Jett and patiently answered all of my questions! Peggy too. We brought Jett home from The Animal Foundation 3 months ago today and, yesterday, we went from 4 meds (8 drops a day) to 2 meds (3 drops a day). We are incredibly grateful to our primary vet for getting us on the right track, starting on day 2, and for Eye Care for Animals for the continued follow up care. Jett is progressing amazingly and we are appreciative to everyone that has been caring for him! Since becoming a patient, we've met many others...including our neighbor. Everyone has been very happy with the Eye Care for Animals team!

Dr. Smith is a magician. We are so glad we made the decision to come here because our results & experience were more than exceptional. Unfortunately, our Pekingese got into a cat fight in the middle of the night - literally which took out a chunk of his eye. Naturally, he was in so much pain, we took him to the ER and they said he needed to see a specialist and recommended Eye Care for Animals. Due to the severity of the injury, they were able to see him first thing in the morning. The news wasn't good and even though 2 other doctors recommended removing the eye, Dr. Smith was convinced he could save it. Even though that's all I wanted to hear, I wanted the most comfortable experience for my fur baby. He had to clear up his infection before getting the surgery (took about 3 days) and the staff were there every step of the way. They called to check on him almost every day and Peggy up at the front desk was so compassionate and helpful when it came to payment options. I can never thank them enough for helping us feel better too! Everyone there cares. It's expensive but you get what you pay for - my boy has healed like nothing has ever happened. His vision and my sanity was saved and he has fully recovered all in a month!

Very caring and professional staff. One of our dogs had developed glaucoma in one eye so badly that it needed to be removed. We were referred to Dr. Smith by our veterinarian. He confirmed that the pressure in the eye was dangerously high and the eye needed to be removed. He also explained that we could have our regular veterinarian do the surgery and that basically the main difference was that Dr. Smith places a prosthetic in the spot where they eye once was so that the skin doesn't sink in. They did the surgery that day. Not only does our dog look great but Dr. Smith took great care to protect the nerves around the eye so that when our dog uses his eyes for expression, both eyebrows go up, not just one. About a week later our other dog had a run-in with a rat trap. Dr. Smith did everything possible to preserve his eyesight. Poor dog is blind in that eye now, but Dr. Smith was able to preserve the eye. Unless you knew he was blind in that eye you would never notice. The front office staff and techs are very friendly and compassionate. I can't say enough good about Dr. Smith and his staff.

If I cud give this place 0 stars I will! This is second time that I been there and every time I pay so so much money for my sick baby's and things are done which are not necessary if you don't agree docs get pisst off! My cat was so sick I have to wait 3 hours talking about money all the time go in and out of room and all was about money but it is Emergency hospital? Why you can't help animals instead treat them just like business? Yes doc O ... told me very rude it is only business and then receptionist lie when I ask her will doctor be there when I come back for my cat! Of course he left... business was done! If you have animal learn everything that you cud from honest people don't let money making emergency clean you out and lie to you be very careful! Place cud be potentially nice if they star treated animals as a living bean that we love not a money... o yes they are angry with me I open my mouth and told them that I am aware what they are doing ... wow what are way to make a living!

We took our dog to this specialist because he had some problems with his eye. I have to say that the staff was very nice, but the doctor can work more on how to greet and talk to people. I am giving one star because they are way to expensive, ridiculously expensive. When I left the office I was depress and desperate because I knew I was not going to be able to spend $3,000 on surgery, since I don't have that kind of money. Looking for options we decided to drive our dog to Tijuana, Mexico for the surgery. We end up paying $200 including medication and neutering (don't think that because its Mexico you are going to a bad doctor, he was great, professional, clean and did a fabulous job! Our dog is healing beautifully). I showed the vet in Mexico the sheet with the fees that this specialist wanted to charge us and half of the things listed did not have to be done, including blood work...come on!! This place is a business that's all! It makes me sad how they rip off people that don't know better.

It should be no stars. Dr. Smith and the other staff are completely negligent and caused my dog Winston to DIE. My wife was called in less than 2 hours to come pick him up. He hadn't had surgery or any anesthesia went into respiratory failure with a temp over 105. Dr. Smith recommended my wife drive him somewhere else and when she got there Winston was standing, but couldn't walk. He couldn't breath and his tongue was GRAY. Bloody foam came out of his nose and he collapsed and died on her lap. He wasn't getting oxygen and had no monitoring when she arrived. Before the eye problem he was a healthy bulldog. Yes, bulldogs can have breathing problems...something they claimed to understand and be aware of. Yet, even though we don't know why he went into respiratory failure we do know the doctor didn't treat Winston appropriately and now he's DEAD. He had never had issues in the past and wasn't even 2 years old. This place killed my dog or at the very least LET HIM DIE. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

The office was a little tricky to find since we're not familiar with the area but was worth the drive. Dr. Smith was highly recommended by our vet for my kitten who has eye issues from the Herpes virus. Dr. Smith has a great love of animals and treated Harry like one of his own. The office is super clean and the staff is top notch. Though their schedule fills up quickly, l love that even if they're booked, if needed, they can accommodate you in between patients. Others have commented on cost, but any area of specialty medicine you are going to pay more for the level of care whether it be person or pet. Also, a lot depends on the issue that needs to be treated. That said, I was not shocked. Harry is doing great and that's what matters most to us. We highly recommend Dr. Smith and his team.

This team is nothing short of fantastic. My poor dog had surgery twice to fix his entropy and cherry eye with another vet before we heard about Dr. Smith. From the very beginning, they make you feel like family. They treat your dog as if it is their dog. The surgery is not inexpensive, but I can tell you that you get what you pay for. I learned that at the hard way. If I had any advice to give to anybody, it is never sacrifice your pets well-being to save a few dollars to somebody who says they can do the surgery that ends up failing. Not everyone who says they can perform this surgery can! I would never deal with anyone but a specialist again. Five stars all the way. Thank you Dr. Smith and team!

The staff was extremely friendly and the facility was clean and well maintained. From the moment I reached out to Eye Care for Animals they were nothing but amazing. They answered all my questions and we got an appointment booked. When I walked into the facility, Jacques (my dog) and I were warmly welcomed. After filling out a few forms we were escorted to an exam room. The Vet Tech came in and we chatted about Jacques then she took him for an initial diagnostic and cme back with the Vet. They handled the situation of letting me know that my dog had lost his vision, so very well. I am grateful the this Clinic and the Staff. I would highly recommend them!

Very warm, compassionate and professional staff at this facility. The parking is limited, but everything is immaculate and well organized. It's immediately obvious that everyone loves pets and enjoys what they do for others. Our fur-baby had a foxtail in her eye. We removed it, but there was a lot of redness and our veterinarian, Dr. Julie @ the E. Charleston Animal Hospital, saw a small puncture upon examination & referred us here. They were kind enough to squeeze us in the next day as an emergency. Fortunately, under their loving care and the use of eyedrops, she's ok now! We're very grateful for everything they have done for her.

Our regular vet really freaked us out about all the things that could have been wrong with our cat when we noticed one of his pupils was bigger than the other. He referred us to Eye Care for Animals to confirm what was up, and they were so great with him! My cat is not a fan of the vet but they were so sweet and gentle with him, and the vet did an amazing job at letting us know what he was doing and what he was thinking throughout the whole exam. He was honest with us but comforting and it was a much better experience for me and my cat than any previous very visits.

After visiting 3 vets, the last one suggested this place. They quickly diagnosed my little fur ball and sent me on my way with eye drops that actually worked! They explained everything so well. People are complaining here that it is too expensive. This place is a specialist...I expected to pay more than a regular vet. I have no complaints about the price. It might be a good idea to for staff to inform customers of the price of the visit when the appointment is made. But I couldn't be happier with the results! Thank you!

Just make sure when you schedule an appointment (even if it’s more than a week in advance) you’re not scheduled as a “work in appointment”. You get stuck waiting in the parking lot expecting for your pet to be seen at the scheduled time that was set. Then after waiting 40 minutes in your car and no one has come to see your pet, you’re told your appointment is a “work in” and if someone else shows up for their appointment you have to wait. This place has great doctors, but only if your fur baby can actually be seen.

My cat had complex eye surgery this summer. There was an alternative remedy: inexpensive eye removal by my regular vet. I'm so glad I went with doctor Smith. Astonishing results. The recovery period was surprisingly short, and my pet still has her beautiful face and complete use of both eyes. Facility and staff are professional. Dr. Smith was very good about explaining the surgical process and prognosis. Answered all my questions both before and after.

  • Jennifer Rolls

We love this place! They love our fur babies as much as we do. They helped our dog with her Glucoma for almost 6 years and now sadly are helping us with her sister and the same problem. Glucoma is such a time sensitive disease but they are always so helpful even after hours (which seems to be when we have the most issues). It's so nice knowing we can count on them when we need help.

Dr. Smith is one of the most kindest and caring vets I have had the pleasure of dealing with for my dogs' eye care. His staff is always friendly and caring. We travel from Arizona over 340 miles round trip to see Dr. Smith and his staff. Professional, kind and caring. My dogs have been going to him for over 3 years. If you want the best eye specialist, Dr. Smith is the best.

  • Roann Sexson

Great experience under the circumstances. Dr Autin was very kind, gentle, and compassionate towards my little four-legged guy. Knowledgeable and comprehensive. Considerate of her to work us in given the nature of the illness. Appreciate the follow-up plan. Would definitely recommend. Bonus was the caring staff!

  • Scott Lenington

I'm still waiting on a response from Dr. Smith and what happened to our baby. Still no phone call, which I can only assume that means you did something wrong. Talk to me Dr Smith. You are suppose to be a professional. But then again I never saw you degree, or even high school diploma.

  • Scott Rosen

Dr Smith and the whole staff are amazing people. They've taken care of our dog for years. The care and compassion are second to none! If I had to drive a 1000 miles to take my dog there I would! The world needs more like them!

  • Ann Swanson

After four trips to the regular vet and $500, one trip here and my dog’s eye ulcer was healed. Thank you!! If any eye problems pop up in the future I’m heading straight here. Also, they were all so kind and caring!!

Dr. Smith and his team are awesome, you just know they have a true love for animals. Very good reasons, I don't know what would have been the outcome for my baby's eyes had we not have found Eye Care for Animals.
