I was shopping at the Ottawa St. store today around 1pm. When I got in line at the cash to pay I observed a woman being served who was wearing a face shield, not the standard mask that Fabricland requires all patrons and staff to wear. The cashier serving her said nothing to her about not wearing the proper mask, and in fact had a relaxed and friendly discussion with her about the customer’s home décor. At one point the customer showed the cashier pictures on her cell phone. The customer was in no way intimidating or hostile, so I wondered why the staff said nothing to her about wearing a shield. When it was my turn to be served I asked the cashier when they changed their policy about masks and she said they hadn’t, you still can’t wear a shield. When I asked why the previous customer had a shield on she flippantly replied that she “must have just snuck in”. Seriously??? So if she had “snuck in” she could have said something to her when she was checking her out at the cash register but she let her leave without saying a word. Who knows how long this woman walked around the store in the shield before coming to the cash??? The store was quite busy and I can only guess how many customers were exposed to this person. I am appalled that with all that MOST of us are doing to beat this virus this location would be so careless in allowing an unmasked person inside, and in a shield that barely covered the bottom of her chin to make matters worse. We were asked to reach out to customer service which we did and haven't heard anything back so they must not be taking this very seriously.

Needs to update policy on returns / exchanges. I was told today when I went to return some fabric “That’s not my problem” (complete with a smirk). I guess employee 1 thought she was being clever? I was then told by another employee (#2) that they don’t do returns on fabric. I pointed out that the bill says otherwise, and was immediately told by a third employee that “only pre-done / pre-packaged items are refundable”. They argued the fact that the fabric was measured. I pointed out it was the end of the roll, and not measured to cut. It wasn’t altered in any way. (Isn’t all fabric measured?) 2nd employee said to refund it “this time”. Well don’t worry, there’s plenty of other fabric places along Ottawa St N to visit, and while they may not refund either, at least they won’t give me attitude like the first girl did today. 2 stars because they did refund, but seriously, make better notices on your invoices / receipts. Just say “NO REFUNDS on opened fabric”. Simple solution, then I wouldn’t of bought the stuff I did yesterday in the first place since it was the wrong size. (Girl it would be about an inch short, it was 4 inches short, hence the entire reason for the return.)

I’ve never had such terrible service. I’m 22 never really been in a fabric store before and wanted to make my own dress for New Years. The lady with short brown hair at the cutting table was absolutely horrid and I’ll never go back due to her behaviour towards me. Giving me additude , snarky with me for no reason and treating me with no respect. When I came for some help she shook her head no at me so she could continue to gossip with the other girl. No one else was available to help. I left quite upset. That women shouldn’t ever work customer service again. Words can’t even describe how rude she was. I understand that everyone has bad days but I think she was just born like that. She had such hatred for the store and everyone in there. So Fabric Land you have lost many customers now due to this. My whole family use to shop there and now none of them will. Not only me but the people I was with were absolutely disgusted by this lady. Shame on you! Also reading comments clearly this has happened to others and you still allow that women to work in your store. I hope she’s worth it.

Fabric Land Ottawa Street!!! Best place ever for a true sewing beginner!!! The staff in this store are absolutely amazing !!! Friendly, knowledgeable and so helpful. Great advice on sewing techniques, fabric and even which thread to buy!! Who knew you had to have different thread for different fabrics and different sewing machine needles too!!! I was dreading going into the store, being a male, never sewn before in my life, I was thinking they'd just pacify me and send me on my way, but no, the lady was interested in what I was making, offered advice, what fabric went with what and what not to try and sew together!!!....... Fantastic!!!! Now I've made out door cushions for my garden furniture!!! Admittedly it's taken me a month to do it but I've saved over $300 having a go myself!!!! I'm now feeling confident to re-cover my dining chairs!!!! I think this may take a while so it will give me something to do over winter while it's snowing outside!!! Thanks guys, you really are doing a great job!!!

First off I would like to say thank-you and recognize how wonderful crystals customer service is at the Ottawa street location. She is doing everything in her power to help me with my order and ensuring I get the right fabrics-the only reason why the review is so high. However I am disgusted with fabriclands head office as they have no respect for the bylaws in place or compassion to those whom are medically exempt and unable to wear a mask. By not respecting ones medical condition or disability they are being discriminatory as per OHRC. They will not even let one wear a faceshield as a consideration, and are severely hurting their business this way. It seems as if the head office needs to be reminded of the legalities so they do not further hurt their business and continue to place employees between a rock and a hard place.

I like this location for the variety and bargains but some of the staff are just burnt out and one notch above grumpy (not good for the novice learning to sew). Younger staff seem more helpful and enthusiastic, but there are a few growing long beards and cobwebs who just give blank stares, grunts of acknowledgement and clipped answers usually associated with handling pain-in-the-butt customers (no matter how nice you are to them). They must remember that novices don't always have measurements and plans completely memorized ...this is a place where creativity and inspiration turn into purchases and into fun...not a place to process customers as though they are convicts collecting possessions upon release. Good customer service makes sales and bad customer service makes lineups at the cutting tables of the friendly staff.

  • Ksenija Stanic

The absolute worst shopping experience I’ve ever had. The staff are beyond rude and unhelpful. They misplaced 10 packs of curtains in a bin indicating a certain price and wouldn’t honour it at cash or kindly explain their hands are tied. They wouldn’t even apologize for the mistake. They kept asking us hypothetical questions about the situation and being unnecessarily mean. I work in customer service so I am never rude because I know that won’t get you anywhere! Even with a kind tone, every single lady was rude right from the get go. It’s not even the price difference, it was the fact they deliberately did not want to help come to a solution OR kindly explain they can’t do anything! Some of the rudest people I have ever spoken to, not just in a retail setting. Unprofessional and unacceptable behaviour.

  • Jenna Lane

Every time I visit this fabricland, the women who work there are so horribly rude! They speak to me like I’m an idiot and seem annoyed to help me. Last time I was in there, I had my son strapped to me and they just stood there watching me struggled to pull rolls of fabric out. I’d ask if I could see something and the women would just say with attitude, “go ahead!” It’s so bad that when I mention I’ve gone to fabricland, friends immediately comment on how rude they are there. At least I know it’s not just me. The only reason I even gave them 2 stars is because they have a lot of fabric options. That’s it. These women need to retire.

  • Justin Bautista

This place is THE best. I have to thank all of the kind and patient women who helped me choose fabrics and consulted me on my projects. Fabricland also has the best prices on everything you need for sewing. Their competitive pricing is absolutely unbelievable. Keep your eyes out for their specials, they are amazing! Everytime I go here, everything I need is always on sale and it makes me feel so blessed. HIGHly recommend this place if you love smoking a sweet joint and picking out some awesome fabrics at an amazing price. Best of luck on your sewing projects!

  • Sam Ion

My experience with Fabricland Ottawa St. has always been 5*. I buy all my fabric there simply because they are so helpful. I was trying to make Roman shades out of a very light see through fabric and having a terrible time. I went back three times for help, and finally made them work. More recently I was working on lined drapes and making a mess of it. I chose a quiet time and went in for help. " You need to pin it much closer", and indeed that worked like a charm. I wish I knew names, but everyone is helpful. Thank you.

  • SH

Little disappointed, with the lack of good fabric designs, and choices they had for the size of their large store. Pricing a little on high side, unless you wait for them to go on sale. Still glad they have a large store to shop at as not to many fabric stores around anymore. Other fabric stores on that same block that are good and l recommend you should check out.

  • Naktaari

The majority of the employees are both lovely and knowledgeable as well as willing to help novices learn more about sewing and fabric. I only gave four stars as the stairs at the Ottawa Street location can be difficult for people with mobility issues. This does not reflect on the service or products offered but i thought it should be mentioned.

  • L. Pepper Lazore

Located within Hamilton textile district on Ottawa Street, this store has so many fabrics, sewing/craft accessories, you'll want to take your time browsing. The staff are helpful and friendly, always willing to take time to help you find what your looking for! Bonus...always great sales going on too. Love this store!

  • Debbie A Ellis

A bit disappointing for me. It would have cost way too much to make the kind of sound proof draperies I want to make. On the brighter side great pricing on materials. Going with an alternative suggested by a friend......not near the expense compared to how I envisioned sound proof draperies.

  • Loves Lattes

The 2 clerks that helped me were unfriendly and not helpful at all. In they boarded in rude! And I had to call the one at the till on her comments. I was disappointed! But the time before, some other clerks were very helpful. They do need more variety of Christmas prints, very basic!!

  • mei kow

The lady who helped us was very helpful and friendly. Staffs in Fabricland are always very nice and helpful. That's why even though there is a fabric store where we parked n another one across the street, we chose to walk further down the road to good old Fabricland. Keep it up!

  • Patricia Hanneman

It's been here for nearly 40 years. I remember in high school when it was on James Street North. Sometimes the deals are fantastic other times it's not as good quality. I found they have a.better selection of USA. Cotton fabrics for quilting than some right across the Boarder.

  • Kat

Great prices if you're willing to scour the entire store (don't forget upstairs!), which I really enjoy. The staff is always wonderful - I'm a self taught crafter and they're always very helpful finding exactly what I need and giving me other options. Very kind staff!

  • Miranda S

I have recently gotten back into the hobby of sewing. And looking at making my own wedding dress for my wedding next year. Fabricland has the selection of fabrics I need to make a wedding dress for myself. Be prepared to pay for parking at $1/hr or $6/day

  • Ina Vander-Molen

Stopped by this store yesterday with my sister. We wondered the whole store and not one staff person said a word to us. Matter of fact got a look of disgust from the person who was holding box’s behind the cash area like us just walking in bothered her.

  • W S

Went looking for a particular frabric, we were on a mission. Walked into this store and found more than we bargained on...they had everything and more. We spent over an hour looking at everything even though we had already found what we wanted.

  • Dianne McGinn

The only place to shop for fabric, notions etc in the area. Unfortunately they usually seem to be sold out of the size zipper I'm looking for. Would hope they'd have always have full stock considering how many sewers rely on them.

  • Dale Waller

This store had exactly the material & pattern we were looking for. Special thanks to Kerry for all of her assistance. She was courteous, friendly & very knowledgeable about the sizes we required. We will shop there again. Thanks

  • Hannah Toope

Good selection of fabric, but a lot of it is very pricey, and the staff isnt very friendly. I only go there if I absolutely have to, otherwise literally any other fabric store is probably better customer service wise.

  • Red and jonny

Largest selection of fabric in town. Though only really worth shopping there on sale days. Best deals are on the 2nd floor. Everyone who works there is always absolutely miserable, which ruins the experience for me.

  • John L

Car-guy walks into Fabricland and asks for help selecting the products and techniques needed to re-upolster the door panels in a classic car. The staff were all great and pleasant while trying to help me. TY folks!

  • Mary Edwards

This store was a pleasure to shop in!! The staff were VERY helpful and friendly and readily available. The selection was very good at a variety of prices. Other Fabricland stores could learn from this one.

  • Beth Duffus

  • Ann Gallerie

This is a great store with highly knowledgeable staff. One of the sales associates that I know studied fashion design, and others are lively, engaging and lots of fun - and they know their stuff.

  • C B

They were very helpful in having the tablecloth material that I had called for from another fabricland, already set aside and waiting. Note that parking for this location is on the street

  • William Lucas

Staff cutting my fabric was very rude and unhelpful. Seemed more interested in gossiping with coworkers than helping me. Will be taking my business to other fabric stores going forward.

  • Paul Deschamps (KillaSkill)

Great selection of tons of types of fabrics. Went in just for dye and got what I needed although it was a small selection all I needed was pure black. Could use a little updating.

  • Asmepcd1957 Asmepcd1957
