Update 05.17.2014 John Brown gave me a call to rectify the situation and I am pleased to say that he cares about his reputation and his clients. He explained to me what happened in my particular case, apologized on behalf of Farmers Insurance for sudden change in payment options. I do recommend his business. Thanks John. Nothing against Farmers thou. They saved my bacon and I was very satisfied with their handling of the issue. I never spoke or dealt with John Brown so nothing against him. I do not know if he exists. My beef is with John Brown staff. Utterly incompetent and borderline stupid. Talking to them is same as pulling teeth. They actually will stay silent on the phone when they have no answer. Now, I am in sales and you do everything to keep your client happy even if it means taking extra step. I was expecting help, explanation, guidance in order not to miss our payment, but I got nothing except "sorry" We were on automatic withdrawal of our monthly payments, but Farmers decided to dump it and just send paperwork to their clients making us responsible for figuring out next payment. The website for online payment is a one big glitch. I am pretty good with computers and do every payment online, but after 30 minutes I just left without paying and totally frustrated. Which automatically puts us behind and penalized. It is YOUR job to make sure it is easy to take OUR money. Don't make us work to give you money, not today for sure. Needless to say that after 14 years of being their client I am looking for better service elsewhere.

I was ensured for a 2 year period with Farmer Brown for my general liabilty policy for my business. Everything was great when I was insured. Once I decided not to re new my policy, I recieved a voicemail that I owed $38 from an audit that was conducted. I called back, no one answered, so I left a voicemail to please email me a copy of the invoice, or mail me an invoice so I can pay it. No return phone call was ever recieved. About 2 weeks later, I recevied another voicemail the same as the original. I called back and left the same voicemail, I need to see an invoice so i can pay it. No returned phone call back. 2 months go by and I get a call from a collection agency, that I owe about $1900. I call back to farmer brown and leave 3 more voicemails- still no one calls me back. I got ahold of someone who would have to contact the audit deparment and get back to me. Im on day 4 of waiting for someone to call me back. I have checked in mulitliple times and its the same, sorry can't get ahold of the audit department. I find it very unprofessional at the lack of their professionalism and follow up. I would advise finding another insurance carrier for your needs. I will edit this if they ever get back to me. But for now im 10+ phone calls into Farmer Brown with the only response given as, "we are waiting to hear from our audit deparment". The orginal lady who called has 5 voicemails from me and never called back.

Do NOT do business with Jim Kocchiu, he is an agent at Farmer Brown. Jim lied to me and told me that every General Liability Insurance Policy was going to require that I either sign a Power of Attny or pay the entire years premium up front. He then tried to day that the only way that a premium could be drafted from my account in any case was if I were to sign a Power of Attny. He told me that this is howEVERY company does things. Now I was a licensed insurance agent in 26 states, including IL where Farmer Brown is located. I sold hundreds of policies, and frequently used ACH. All that is required is that the transactions be authorized. I get that the finance company is trying to protect themselves, but I detest being treated like I am stupid, or like I would believe a bold faced lie, especially after I have laid out my credentials(told him I sold insurance)

Make sure you review your policy when they give you the GL Insurance. They give great prices however read and ask questions to make sure that the insurance is covering everything that it needs to cover. I got a General Liability insurance for my construction business here in NYS. The price was great! No complain what so ever, however, recently when I tried to get a new GL insurance with another company, the agent told me that the insurance given does not cover for loses; meaning if an accident was to happen on a job site, my insurance wouldn't cover for the damages. Unfortunately I was not told this by Farmer Brown. Anyways, the company is great for small businesses and many other stuff. But ask questions and have them sit with you and explain everything that's needed to know prior to getting the insurance.

My handyman neighbor was doing work on my roof and I wanted to make sure he was safely protected and legally covered for the duration of the project by a local qualified broker whom we could speak with directly if any insurance issues came up. We looked at a few vendors including Farmer Brown insurance who he chose because they were able to quickly search multiple providers with less hassle than hunting down all the major providers, kind of like TrueCar or other product comparison services. Since the handyman was building the insurance cost into the project, I was very pleased Farmer Brown was able to get a good range of pricing options and correct coverage. I was happy with the final costs and build, and my wife was even more happy there were no delays. Pro.

This is a warning for any home builder to not use this company. They claim to be an insurance broker for builder's risk. After you put a down payment, they slip into the fine print that the down payment is a "service fee" that is non-refundable. We gave them an $800 down payment and made three payments of $167.50 for three months. During that time, the carrier they worked with kept sending me emails telling me they were canceling my policy because I didn't send them pictures of fire extinguishers (on a house that wasn't built yet). I called to cancel the policy, and they said it would take 45 days! They finally sent me $200.00, stating the rest was non-refundable. DO NOT USE this company, they are scammers.

They are the worst. Although we are all happy to get quick service from Farmer Brown Insurance, it's the insurance coverage we really want. The policy they provided me did not cover the claim made on my project, although the coverage I needed was made very clear to the adjuster. Nothing about the policy they provided me was of any value. DO NOT trust this company with your business. They are only interested in pumping out fast quotes. They are not attempting to understand the needs of your company. They are not attempting to help protect your business. Keep looking until you find a insurance broker/company who cares about what they do, and will carefully provide insurance that protects you business.

I called in hopes of getting a quote for my small business. The woman that answered the phone spoke clear English. She placed me on hold and I was sent to a rep. that could not speak clear English and I had to keep having him repeat the questions. Then after we hung up and I thought it was finished he called me back and asked me to repeat my email address and home address Company name and ect. . It has been almost a week and I have yet to receive any quotes. I went on here in search of reviews because I kind of felt like I might of been scammed. At this point I don't care what price they quote me. I will not be doing business with them.

I've been a client of John Brown Ins Agency for 3 years, I truly can't say enough about how pleased I am with their wonderful service. As a subcontractor there's always that last minute document rush, this agency has never failed me with getting docs where they need to be on time. The professionalism displayed by the agents are top-notch with being very patient and understanding to my needs. I've mostly dealt with one Customer Service Representative since became a client, her fast and personal service makes me feel as if she's right there in the office with me. I called to get insurance. I have been working with Jimmy. It has been a horrible experience to say the least. The communication is very poor. Lack of knowledge. After a week of chasing jimmy down and multiple emails I was finally able to get an answer. The answer was that I have to get my own insurance because they do not know how. Wow, after waiting a week he told me to send my own application in to the state. This is a very poor company and I would never recommend them for business insurance. BEWARE!! AND NEVER WORK WITH JIMMY.

The worst. Do not get insurance here! They charge more because they find insurance and then every 6 month up it by at least $30 for no reason, no changes, nothing. When you question it or attempt to cancel they are rude and disrespectful. I called other companies and got a $200 better deal on my own without them, you pay them a fee to help, don’t do it.

I have had a wonderful experience with this company through these last years. The representatives are patient and helped me find a coverage for our framing business. Do not give your phone number these people, I stupidly called and left my Contact information with someone over the phone. I received multiple threatening phone calls from Peru that night mentioning the details . Yes it was weird and a little scary but I would avoid farmer brown insurance .I wish I could give negative stars

The agent we got paired with said he would have everything out to me by the end of the day. We waited and waited , nothing. Called a week and a half later and said nobody wanted to take us on due to demolition. When we talked I was under the impression that the insurance came frome them. No it is out sourced. Be careful.
