I've been reading some of the 1 star ratings and I'm amazed at the ignorance of people. Vets are expensive; always have been, always will be. But so are doctors and specialists. They're specialists for animals who can't talk and they've got to figure out what's wrong with them. Why should you not pay a premium for this? The first time I visited Fernridge was at the end of September to take in a stray who had visited us a couple of days in a row. After trying to determine where his owners were, with no luck, we decided to keep him. The first thing the receptionist recommended was getting pet insurance, which I wouldn't have considered had she not mentioned it. He's cost us a small fortune with all his procedures (and the insurance only kicks in from November) but the vet kept me informed of the costs and didn't charge for the daily checkup visits to inspect his wounds to ensure they were healing properly - clearly this is a vet who is trying to rip you off. Bottom line: Don't have pets if you're not willing to do whatever it takes for them to have a healthy, happy life! The entire team at Fernridge are fantastic. I felt it the minute I walked into the practice. They care about your fur baby and anyone who says differently has no clue what they're talking about. I've experienced vets who don't communicate, who charge the earth and really don't care about the wellbeing of your pet and Fernridge is nothing like that. I'm glad I decided to take him there on that Tuesday morning and I'm thankful I've got one of the best teams looking after my new kitty.
Tldr - Money hungry and discompassionate. Their first options are the most expensive. When I asked for more options they basically shook their heads and said "we can't say until we run tests". My cat is old and nearing the end of his life. I wanted to do as much as I could to give him a comfortable end, but they didn't even give me options for that. I then took him to the Randpark Ridge vet on Monkor road, first of all their consultation fee is quite a decent amount less, and once I gave them the same information and asked what options I had they charged me very little for injections and treatment that would get rid of his pain and discomfort. Ultimately the underlying problems can't be fixed, but I can at least know that he's enjoying his final days. Edit: I double checked and I was mistaken about the fees being as high as I remembered. My apologies, I've edited the above accordingly. However I still stand by everything else that I've said.
Look. I understand that you may have your available hours. But really, if google maps shows you are open, you must be open. I also detest reception ladies that think they are the high and mighty health specialists! If your attitude was better I might have returned. It seems the vet is not there between 12h00 and 15h30. Reception lady don't tell me you are indeed open when I told you google maps says you are open. You are not open if the vet is only there after 15h30. You are closed when the vet is not there!!!
My cats have been seen to by Dr Basch (and now Dr Basson) for the past 13-14 years. Both Drs are incredibly professional, knowledgeable and caring towards animals. When my late cat was ill for a number of months, Dr Basch was the one that found out what had caused his illness - this is after seeing various specialists and an operation. All the staff are quite gentle with my pets, and are excellent at their jobs. Would recommend this clinic to anyone!
Fernridge Clinic has been my go-to veterinary clinic for the past year. They have excellent service and skilled, knowledgeable staff that are willing to help in any crisis. I have a domestic short hair cat who gets into a lot of scraps with other cats, they have always helped my little fur-baby and given him all the love and attention he needed to make a swift recovery. I would highly recommend this veterinary clinic as they truly care about animals
I would like to say a huge thank-you to Fernridge vet, we had to make the toughest decision today to put our Dobermann down and your support and care is what helped us through it. WW have never had a vet give us so much insight and information into each option but we know that we made the right decision. Thank-you for seeing us at short notice and for helping us deal with a very emotional and difficult decision. Definitely our new Vet.
This is by far the best place to be. In such an emotional stage of an animal being sick or passing away Fernridge Veterinary Clinic was by our side every step of the process. I can say to anyone going through the hard process of their pet being sick or passing away you can be comfortable knowing that this clinic cares for your pet and you.
I am disappointed in the way they treated my cat. The vet and assistant didn't handle my cat with care (Pulling her out of the carrier forcefully, forcing her down with their chests scratching her profusely) The vet also didn't explain what exactly will be administered with no instruction thereafter either. Can't say we will return.
Will never go there again, they charge exorbitant fees (even more than double other vets) for routine treatments. They offer no warning, no quotes and no advice either - they simply go ahead with expensive treatments. They charged my just a little less than 3k to treat my cats worms. Be very careful of this practice!
The vet administered an injection to my cat without checking the temperature. Nor did he check the teeth. He charged over R500 and said I should come in for a follow-up of no charge - however if he finds anything there will be a charge. He did not ask any questions about the cat either.
A wonderful experience at Fernridge vet. They are so accommodating with taking their time and helped educate us simply to help meducate our cat. I have never seen the cat so relaxed. They are also very reasonable in their fee and medication charges.
This vet is horrible. Not only do they charge extremely high fees which you won't know until you get the bill. They also made a huge blunder on my mom's dog's eye when it popped out. Never will I ever return to them!
Absolutely amazing and helpful. Dr Basson has been incredible in helping our Kitty with an abcess and the staff go above and beyond to help us! I recommend this practice to anyone who needs help with their pets!
Dr Nicole is not only the most friendly and loving carer for our babies, her knowledge and accuracy on her diagnoses are really remarkable!! Thank you for really being awesome. The Kings …
Absolutely the most amazing Doctors, receptionists and staff. Always and awesome experience. Doctor Monique is absolutely amazing. Genuine love for animals and their quality of live.
This is the only practice I trust. Both Dr Basson and Dr Basch are excellent they have both saved our dogs a few times. Highly recommended wont change for anything. Thank you Dr's
I recently adopted a little kitten who got extremely ill. Being my first kitten, this has stressed me out so much. Fernridge Vet has treated my baby as if it were their own.
We’ve been at Fernridge Vet for 18 years now and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Dr Basch and his team are warm, friendly, professional and we feel like family there.
This Vet is just looking for ways to make an extra buck. Rather go to the Vet off Jan Smuts, they are honest and care about your babies. Worth the 5 minute drive.
The staff and doctors have been wonderful in looking after our fur babies with all their ailments and check ups too. They are our go to vet in Robin Acres.
Kind and considerate vet and staff. Treat my animals with love and take gentle care of them. I highly recommend Fernridge Vet for pet lovers in the area
Took my dog in just took temperature and did a stomach exam. 5min later I didn't want to leave my dog and was charged R518 Absolutely ridiculous!!
Fixed up my old cat quickly and gave me medication I could afford when they could of ßold me the most expensive.Great vet.
Great service, friendly. My dogs love going to the vet for a visit, annual inoculations and monthly chronic medication.
Took my dog in on Saturday, Dr Nicole was great, got a follow up call on Saturday afternoon. impressed all round.
Will never go there again. Killed my pedigree one week after vaccination. Cheap meds and very expensive
People who truly care about animals. Professional and welcoming environment. Dr. Basson is amazing!
What lovely vets, everyone is so helpful. Our penny stayed 2 nights and had great care❤️
Our go to vet! Staff are friendly and the vets are really good!
Nice people and a nice experience.
