I went to First Gear as a recommendation from a friend for a problem I’ve been having with my Camry for years. The previous auto shop owner charged an inspection and still wasn’t sure if the service offered would fix the problem. I was quoted $1000+ with uncertainty and so I left it as it was because he said it wasn’t a safety issue, just more of a nuisance. I finally decided to get an overall inspection before winter this year just in case. I am so glad I took my car to First Gear. They responded to my appointment request promptly and explained everything simply and clearly. They found a few other small things to fix at a fraction of the cost I would’ve been charged literally anywhere else. What I was originally quoted much more for wasn’t even what I ended up replacing. I really appreciate the 10/10 customer service and my issue was resolved with a very reasonable price. I mainly dealt with Lee and he was a pleasure to work with, however the whole team is very kind and professional. I also recommended my dad to them for service and he had nothing but praise for them as well. Definitely recommend!!

First off - This is probably the best of experience in regards to shops I've worked with and I sent my car all the way from Whitehorse YT to them in edmonton. The entire team from Leo, Nick, Kevin, Li Li, and Jason have treated me better than a customer, they treated me like a brother. The team has been working and putting my car together and making sure it has the best taste and final touch. Leo and his team has gone above and beyond to make a dream come true for me, on building this project. I can wait to take it out on the road and drive this beautiful piece of artwork in my city. I highly recommend this shop if you're looking to build your car up. I went with some of the top parts available for my car and Leo was able to make it happen and also made some very strong recommendations to save me time and money. ** UPDATE: I took my car in today and they were able to resolve the issue. Nick, the Service Manager, took great care of me and explained what was done and how the issue was resolved. Would recommend to family/friends and would come back. Previous review: I had brought my vehicle in late last year to have an oil leak looked at with an oil change done at the same time. Recently, I went to perform an oil change at home and the oil pan drain plug was severely over-tightened/rounded. I tried to get it off with a normal socket set, breaker bar and vice grips to no avail. I had reached out to First Gear Project in assistance in resolving the issue since they were the last ones to work on the vehicle.

These guys truly saved my car. Special thanks to Nick and the owner for standing by me and being completely honest and thorough with thier professional work. My car was suffering from a dilemma that dosent happen very often. they managed to solve it in less than a week when it took me 2 months of diag with no luck. Sometimes Oem JDM parts can be quite pricy, they gave me a very good deal on 4 oem Ignition Coils, brand new from Toyota Japan, took less than 10 days to arrive and install. Yes they were a pretty penny but can't cheap out on these things. Overall I'm extremely happy with my ride now and will continue to spread thier name across Edmonton

These guys brought my car back from the dead. I bought a new car and realized a lot more was wrong with it than the seller let on. I asked around and was directed to First Gear. GLAD I CAME HERE. Nick and Lee are likely the guys you will talk to. They are super knowledgeable and trustworthy. TRUST is the key word, so hard to find in mechanics. I will be a repeat customer if anything else happens to my car. They explain everything they do in detail which gives peace of mind. They listen to your concerns and give you lots of updates. Overall great shop. The rate is fair. Talk to these guys and you can trust them to do good work.

I’ve been going to First Gear Project for three years. Nick, Lloyd, Thomas, Taylor… ALL their staff are very approachable and friendly. They will make time to talk to you about any prospective work you’d like to have done and keep constant comms with you while your vehicle is being worked on. I’ve been able to buy quality parts here (tires, battery, alternator, etc) at below retail prices and the techs that install the parts are meticulous. They’ve done plenty of custom work on my car and I am very grateful to be rolling around showing off their quality workmanship.

Where do I begin ? How about the Standalone service and the knowledge of all the pros in the building ? When I First walked into First Gear I was greeted and helped immediately! And we sourced out my issue with no problems. I wanna say that when you own a car from Japan First Gear is your number one place in YEG to go to. They can get all the parts you need and their prices are amazing. There knowledge of all JDM cars puts them ahead of any shop in Edmonton by a mile , as well as their connections in Japan ! I have brought two different Subaru vehicles to this shop and each time I am impressed with the service. I Brought my JDM legacy to the shop to get its engine undercover fixed and since I brought my car in last month to the shop to get its spark plugs fixed, they covered all costs and shop time associated with fixing the undercover. They have also accommodated my old vehicle with a free repair on my climate control unit after it broke again shortly after repair. I highly recommend First Gear Project to anyone!

I have nothing but great things to say about this place. The staff here are some of the most knowledgeable, kind and honest people I've dealt with. They do their absolute best to accommodate you in the shortest amount of time possible all while giving you great quality parts and service. Their pricing is always fair and well priced for the amount of work that needs to be done. That being said, the experience is nothing short of stellar and I will happily visit them in the future. One stop shop for all your Import or even domestic vehicle needs. Li, Rich, Leo and Nick are amazing to deal with in person and over phone. Have never led me down the wrong path. The entire staff are friendly and extremely helpful with any question I have asked. I had them replace the clutch on my 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX. They did an excellent job overall, setting up an appointment with them was super easy and they were able to book my car in for work fairly quickly. They even stayed at the store longer so they would be able to finish the work on my car in a day as they promised. They took great initiative to make sure everything supporting the clutch was in good working order and they are very honest about their pricing and work. Would highly recommend them!

Great service. Got a full timing belt/water pump etc. replacement by them. Not only were they priced better than competitors, they were able to book my service in much quicker as well. Very honest shop as well as they notified me that they would check other seals in the engine while they were in there, but deemed they did not require replacement. Finished my car in less than a day on a Saturday which was very convenient. I will not hesitate to bring all my future repairs there.

It's always a pleasure doing business with them. Had my car in for a 70'000 service and Nick came out and explained everything that they did, and what I should do to correct some issues (I do most services myself). They're always honest and straightforward about what's going on. Can't recommend a better shop. Leo, Nick, Li are some of the nicest people to deal with. I'm really glad this shop exists, because everyone who works there is very hardworking and friendly.

If you stay loyal to Leo, he’ll always stay loyal to you and save you money. These guys have worked on my Gen a countless amount of times, from getting me parts, to service parts, oem maintenance, brake jobs, they swapped my clutch and dual mass flywheel out with a stage 2 competition clutch kit and lightweight flywheel that I’ve supplied for a very good deal in labor. I love this shop, I wouldn’t let anyone else touch my gen coupe.

I have a toyota hiace, (jdm) that needed a timing belt. I went to this place and they told me that they've never done that on my model so working time(and bill) may vary. They had more difficulties than planned but they say that they will not charge me those couple hours extra. On top, they finish up the job little after the garage close. If I could give a 10 stars...I would. This garage is run by honest people. Rare these days.

Fantastic customer service, amazingly knowledgeable. They have a lot of experience with some very uncommon issues which has saved me time and money. Friendly and professional discourse from both techs and parts/sales people has earned my trust and loyalty. They are the first place I turn to for Japanese cars and I cannot recommend them enough - a true asset to the Edmonton area.

I looked everywhere Edmonton for someone to install an aftermarket Spoiler for my Mazda 3, I was disappointed everytime it's either they don't know how or just don't want to. However, when I called this place, Leo took me in right away to have an estimate and booked a appointment for installation! His team were very knowledgable. Would definitely come back

Very knowledgeable and professional. I love going through the shop and seeing the cars that go through. I've had very expensive and meticulous work done here and would not trust any other shop to do it. They work with you when negotiating prices and will try their best to make sure that you are able to afford the work and are well taken care of.

I ordered an R1 titan exhaust for my lexus rcf. I delt with Leo. These guys mean business and are true profofessionals. Through out the process leo answered all my questions and my order came to me perfect I couldn't be happier with my order and I give these guys a ten out of ten. They did an amazing job on my Toyota Aristo. I needed some timing work done and they had no problem with booking me in within a couple days. They take pride in their work and put care into the customers vehicle to make sure they are satisfied. I was given great quality work, time efficient work, and an amazing price! Highly recommended.

These guys are by far the best car shop in town. I used to buy parts through them and now that I am older I have been getting them to do work on my STi. They are quick, extremely fair priced, do quality work AND by far the most important: honest. Excellent work First Gear. Your whole team should be proud of the shop you have.

Excellent service, the best mech and body shop one can finds in Edmonton. I have been visiting them regularly in the past few years and they never let me down. I had a small issue with them in the last visit but Nick reached to me and did me a favor by offering services with no charge. Five star rating absolutely.

Had an appointment for an inspection, and they offered me to fix my brake pads and rotors on the same day luckily, even without me setting up an official appointment. They explained everything to me and were very thorough with what needed to be done. I was in and out pretty fast. Would recommend 100%

First gear is my main shop to get oil and some parts from. They always have what I want and what I need. They can order in pretty much anything you want for your USDM or JDM vehicle (maybe other markets I’m not sure). Their team is great and I would strongly recommend. Keep up the great work!

Great bunch - I was late for my appointment due to no tows being available and they still fit me in. Diagnosed and cleaned out the system after the IAG AOS froze up on my Subaru and only charged me the cost of the oil change. Will definitely come back for my service needs.
