DO NOT USE THIS MECHANIC!!!!! Please if you value your car do not use this mechanic. Dodgy poor service and rude. Had my car towed in with engine issues. While my car was in the shop I notified about an oil leak i needed repaired. I was told on multiple occasions by the mechanic there was absolutely no oil leak. Was told we cleaned the engine we put the car on the hoist and could not find a leak....even though there are pools of oil around the bottom of the engine which are clearly visible by the naked eye. I was told I was overfilling my oil and that's why it was leaking. I also paid for a service. Within which these things would have been absolutely visible to the naked eye. Was told "well maybe we told you there was a leak and you didn't understand" i assume this comment was thrown in because I'm a female and apparently we can't see oil leaks.....all blame was placed onto me even though they had my car for days and this oil in the picture above was leaking after car was sat there for 30 mins. Them claiming they couldn't see an oil leak is an utter joke. I stated that further damage clearly had happened due to this not being rectified as anyone with half a brain knows an oil leak can erode hoses and parts below the engine and not having a rocker and gasket cover replaced can cause a significant amount of damage, not to mention the hazard oil leaking onto a hot engine can cause...... My coolant levels also have drastically dropped and have gone from needing coolant at every service to needing it once a week. Mechanic took zero responsibility telling me I'd have to pay for any further damage caused despite their negligence. I took the car to the mechanic today (Sunday) he kept repeating " I've opened up for you today even though I'm closed on Sundays)" as if he has done me a favour.... I now have to find another repairer and potentially have irreparable damage to my car due to the serious negligence of this mechanic. He also claimed he didn't work there at the time and had just taken over ownership even though I have text messages about the car and the leak from him on my phone. I am currently in the midst of lodging a consumer affairs claims and a vcat claim for damages. More than happy to provide proof to anyone who doubts the validity of this claim as I'm sure the owner will attempt a response to refute this entire interaction.

Initially, I visited them on a Friday to address a straightforward brake light issue. However, they exploited my situation, coercing me into an unnecessary service, claiming my car desperately needed it. They pitched a questionable "deal" of $400 for both the service and brake light repair, or a reduced $300 in cash. Reluctantly, I chose cash, and that's when my ordeal began. When I retrieved my car, the brake light still didn't work – the very reason for my visit. The mechanic's excuse was absurd; he'd merely swapped the bulbs. Unbelievable! He pledged to fix it, requesting a return on Monday. When I called again, he couldn't locate a replacement bulb, insisting I get it myself. In good faith, I visited a nearby store on Tuesday, only to find no bulb order existed. This turned into a frustrating wild goose chase. Frustrated, I confronted him. He audaciously told me to calm down and promised to rectify the issue. By then, I'd had enough and rejected his "services." In desperation, he continued calling, but I severed communication and blocked him. This mechanic is a swindler and an embarrassment to the profession. Trust the one-star reviews; steer clear of this place. They fully deserve the criticism. This spot is a glaring red flag; avoid it like the plague. If I could rate lower than one star, I would. **AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!** This mechanic doesn't even deserve a single star but 5 red flags.

I don't trust my car (Nissan 350Z) with anyone and it took me awhile to look for a professional mechanic who is trustworthy. I urgently needed a local mechanic who is honest, reliable and can get the job done without any delay. Fred offers a high quality service, friendly staff and people. RIPS YOU OFF FOR YOUR MONEY, WAS SELLING A CAR ON SOMEONE ELSES BEHALF, ASKED FOR $1500 MORE BECAUSE HE HAD "FIXED THE PROBLEMS" SHOWED ME HE REPLACED THE EXHAUST AND FIXED OIL LEAK, I TRUSTED AND BELIEVED THIS MAN AS HE WAS A MECHANIC AND SPECIALISED IN EUROPEAN CARS, SECOND DAY DRIVING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED, HE DID MY ROADWORTHY ASWELL, THE CAR BROKE DOWN NOT EVEN A MONTH LATER, TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC EXHAUST NEEDED REPLACING HAD A BLOCKAGE, AND OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE OIL LEAK BRAKES NOTHING WAS ROADWORTHY, FRED TOOK ADVANTAGE AND LIED AND STOLE MONEY FROM ME I HAD TO PAY $5000 FOR REPAIRS NEARLY AS MUCH AS I PAID FOR THE CAR. IM REPORTING HIM AND GOING TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS. DONT GO TO THIS MAN FRED HUGE CON!!!! LIES AND STEALS MONEY DOESNT FIX ANYTHING ONLY MASKS THE PROBLEM AND SAYS HES FIXED IT!

To give Fred's the benefit of the doubt, perhaps if he would like to reply to my comment and consider refunding me the $330 it cost me to repair the work that he didn't complete properly? I went to Fred's for a RWC. Fred's undertook a number of repairs including repalcement of Lower Control Arm Bushes. I got the RWC but it expired before I was able to get the car registered. Subsequently, I had to get another RWC. To save time, I took the car to Westpoint Ford. Westpoint Ford called me to let me know that the Lower Control Arm Bushes had not been put in correctly and this had to be done before they could do a RWC. This job cost me another $330. So, how about it Fred's? Are you a fair-dinkum guy? Prepared to give me that refund? I'd rather be able to say something good about your service

Dropped my car off to these guys due to a nasty screeching noise my car was making while turning or going over speed humps. Told the mechanic it was from the front of the car and possible tie rods, but he assured me it was from the rear “breaks”. I left the car with him and got a phone call a few hours later, with a quote for a new rear diff for $650 plus labour. I was buying a new car in a few weeks so I asked him if it was dangerous to drive and if it would last that long. He said he was confident it would last and that it wasn’t dangerous. It didn’t sit right with me so I drove my car to another mechanic and with in the first 30 seconds on the hoist he noticed my ball joint had popped out and it needed a new break disc. Was fixed with in 30mins.

Had my engine rebuilt by freds automotive Was all fine Then had other issues so I took my car back as I got good service so far While they were moving my car around the workshop I witnessed them roll back after trying to go over a hoist and they've hit my car against the concrete wall. They are telling me there's no damage but are still trying to charge me for the new work I was getting them to do I work in a customer related trade myself and we take customer damage very serious. Regardless if there damage to a car or not they have hit the concrete wall with my car They are now holding my car in the workshop because I refuse to be paying the price given

We had some problems with our car, when we came here. We had an oil leak and our radiator was trash and we needed an oil change on top. Fred has been super nice to us, he’s such a friendly guy, not because he is selling something, he is how he is, friendly and helpful! Our car needed another radiator, but he didn’t charge us all the costs, we just had to pay for our head gasket repair, the radiator and the oil change- it was more than just a reasonable price for all the work he and his team has done! If you’re close to Melbourne- go to Fred and he will never rip you off and he will always help you!

Big rip off! I took my Ford here for a service. I wish I read the google reviews prior to dealing with this mechanic. After a comprehensive service, the next day I was driving to see my father in hospital and my car broke down on the way home. New owner is a dodgy, an unethical and an unreliable mechanic. Previous owner was doing better. The price rose, their work is sloppy, and worst customer service (if any at all). I wish I could give a ZERO-star rating. Will never go back there, and will be advising others to stay well away.

I took my car in to have a puncture repaired. He told me all my tyres were “cracked” and unroadworthy, which was surprising to me given they were less than 18 months old. He stopped me as I was leaving and offered to sell me a full set of replacements. Ummm yeah no. I was pretty sure this guy was taking advantage of the fact I was an unaccompanied female but thought I’d get a second opinion just in case. Sure enough my tyres are fine and completely roadworthy. Be careful with this one… he’s not to be trusted.

The drive shaft and wheel bearings on my 14 year old Toyota Aurion stopped working just over a week ago. A friend who is a Mechanic recommended Fred's as a good workshop to see about this problem. And he was correct - for a grand total of $2,000 (compared to the $10,000 quoted by an official Toyota dealer), Fred replaced my drive shaft and wheel bearings within the space of just 1 weekday. To say I was both surprised and impressed with the speed and price of his service is an understatement!

Experienced my car breaking down for the first time today - of course I panicked and didn’t know what was wrong! We went to get a logbook service yesterday & unexpectedly needed some major things done & he gave us such a good price & let me know all the details of what was being done and even helped out with the little things I wouldn’t even think of like polishing my headlights! I did my research and found Fred's Auto Mechanic Repairs offers car service, drop off service, loan car (per day), car wash, car vacuum and pick up service in a package all for a good price and cheaper compares to the other mechanics I've used in the past and the ones I rang up for a quote, who charge way more and only for repairs/service. I'll be using Fred's Auto Mechanic in the future. Amazing service and I highly recommend it.

Instead of fixing my car he made another problem for this, $ 1200 only for a throttle body but I didn’t accept it , after I left there I saw that the engine check light is on and also he even did not put the parts properly that had been opened to fix. He Charged me $150 for a few minutes that was involved in. At all very bad experience and I don’t recommend this , don’t go there if you love you car and money?

My car was broken down at home. They said they would come out to take a look, which I appreciated. I waited and waited. I didn't get an update until 5.45 at night they were just leaving to come round. It was 2 hours after they said they would be leaving in 1/2 an hour. It was dark and raining, they couldn't have seen anything. Very disappointing. Told him not to worry, I found someone else. Very unreliable.

DODGY RIP OFF avoid at all costs he charges for work that has not been done says he does rwc yet car has to go somewhere else as he is not licensed I got a rwc through him which he charged me 1650 for repairs yet half the repairs got marked as fixed when they were not things like windscreen oil leaks and electrical fault untouched he could not even clear a service light on dash

I do not recommend these mechanics very dodgy and they don’t fix cars correct. I took my car in to get fixed I came back payed and when leaving with my car the same problem I payed to get fixed was still happening, I called them back only for the them to tell me they have to charge extra to fix the same issue I payed for before.

One tyre cost $170. $170 for one tyre. They are crooks… not to be trusted! Even though I’ve asked for a receipt 3 times they won’t give me one. Be very careful dealing with this business. What you ask for and what you get may not end up being the same thing.
