Great Park, also known as Pelikan Park, located on the edge of Westernport Bay and adjacent to Hastings Pier. The park has lots of large, spreading fig trees with lots of shade and some with park benches and tables under them. Several shelters with tables and BBQs, playground, Public Toilets, exercise equipment on the perimeter walk, extensive lawns for games and great views of the Northern part of Westernport Bay. Lots of Takeaways to grab a bite to eat in the shade are a short distance away, like we did, great fish and chips.

Great spot for family and friends. Some events happen at the reserve. But always a great spot for a nice picnic.
Playground
Nice spot to bring your kids and pets for a nice picnic or evening walk
Restrooms
Public restrooms are walkable and accessible.
Dog-friendliness
Pets would love this park, lot of area to run around. Might need to be leashed at busy times.

  • Ash Hanssens

Really nice place to sit down, and have a BBQ while kids are playing on the playground and the older ones are playing soccer, footy or cricket. 3 tables and chairs near the BBQ. Also toilets nearby. Shops are just up the main road if you want takeaway
Playground
Large playground facilities, old but the kids love it
Restrooms
Nice and clean, and not too far away

Love heading down here with the kiddies. Plenty for them to do and see and I think the right amount of challenge for most kids. If anyone else is involved with the rock finding/hiding, great place to hunt for some or add your own. There are public toilets here that are usually maintained alright too which is really handy with young ones.

Beautiful park on Western Port. I came down here a couple of times to do the fabulous Parkrun here in Fred Smith Reserve. It really is a treat and Council does a great job of maintaining it. After Parkrun I grabbed breakfast at the cafe at the southern end of the park. Well worth a visit and a walk around.

Open-air, free-to-us exercise equipment, and a great dog walking track. This park is perfect for a dog walk along the Hastings coastline. It also had gym equipment set up at regular intervals for anyone wishing to design their own exercise routine in the surrounds of wetland birdlife and mangroves.

A great park to enjoy, however It is a shame that too many dog owners let their dogs run off leash in the areas where signs clearly state that dogs MUST be on leads. My small kids do not feel safe here after a couple of bad experiences with off leash dogs knocking them over etc. Not cool!

I don't visit it area very often, however the foreshore area in Hastings is well worth the trip. It's ideal for family or outdoor gatherings of friends as there's plenty of room, play areas for the kids (or young at heart), barbecues and a huge grassed area overlooking the sea.

  • Rigby Jackson

A great place for kids of all ages.
Playground
Although old, the playground is in good condition with plenty to keep kids of all ages entertained.
Picnic area
Could do with more undercover seating as the birds tend to do their business on the benches and tables.

  • Mark Chadwick

Not a bad spot to take a "nature" break, making use of the clean public facilities. Well grassed, with ample shade, this park is fine for kids - but being flose ton the foreshore keep an eye on them. Adequate parking and a refreshment shop are features.

  • Sian Millane

This was a pretty good playground! It has an awesome almost full size tinny boat replica that rocks and an interesting audible section. A varied range of play equipment and a darn good view. Good lot of picnic tables so you can eat while they play.

  • Brooke “Wise one” Woodruff

This place is more known as pelican park and I come here regularly and use the table tennis table thats down there. Its a great spot but maybe they could move it away from the path, the dog's always check out the ball. its a bit funny. …

  • Trish Trewin

A scenic walk along the Hastings foreshore to share with your dog. Stop for a coffee or a stroll on the jetty. You can view Mangrove, said to be the most southerly stands in the world and the salt marshes are classified by the National Trust

  • Philip Potter

Big reserve with lots of running space for the children & your pets , but make sure you carry doggie poop bags with you as people frown on you if you don't clean it up and if the ranger is within eyyesight you will get an on the spot fine .

  • Kieran Stueven

Great track for walks, runs, bike riding and walking your dog, track os leashed area whilst tge grassed areas are leash free. Every Saturday morning at 8am is Hadtings Foreshore parkrun with some of the friendliest people you'll meet.

  • Kristen Williams (Krissy-Hands)

Dog-friendliness
Great place to hang out with ya pups.

  • Jan Frank Aiello

Kids play ground is a little sparse and definitely needs more equipment like a Flying Fox, more equipment would mean more fun for the kids, my Granddaughter loves going here, especially playing with her Scooter on the Skate park.

  • Hugh Heggen

It's a fine enough park. Plenty of space, nice tree cover, a good playground and picnic facilities with a big leash free dog area. The public toilets are trash though. Good for a gentle stroll along the waterfront

  • Sandeep Parekh

Great for a walk in the afternoon during spring or summer. We saw some people fishing there. It was a nice atmosphere and there is enough parking nearby. A public park is also close by for kids to play.

  • Paul Dossor

stopped in for a walk on the Hastings Pier and a coffee at Pelican Societe. Kids 14,12,10 had a ball with the tide low and the mangroves exposed. little hermit crabs running around as a distraction.

Great leash free area....But only one bin to dispose of dog droppings, and no bags supplied hence there's dog poo everywhere …

Safe and family friendly walking track/park with plenty of amenities. Be careful of the swampy smell in summer at the far side of the large track.

  • Ray Swaine

Great place for kids and adults too. Parkrun is nearby on Saturday mornings. It's a nice walk around the parkland or just sit and contemplate.
