At Freedom Park you'd find an art Gallery, a disco space, a historical museum, two different platforms for performance and stage shows, craft shops, food courts etc. Fantastic facility for musicals, live shows and performances, pepper soup and grilled fish, robust and vibrant night life, open-air relaxation etc!!!! It is a memorial and leisure park area in the middle of downtown Lagos (Lagos Island) which was formerly Her Majesty's Broad Street Prison. It was designed by the Architect Theo Lawson. The Park was constructed to preserve the history and cultural heritage of Nigerians. Monuments in the park reveal the Lagos colonial heritage and history of Her Majesty's Broad Street prisons. It was built to commemorate the 50th anniversary independence celebration in October, 2010. The Park serves as a National Memorial, a Historical landmark, a Cultural site, Arts and Recreation centre. The park, which is now a serene abode for individuals, visitors' collective contemplation and interaction is open to the public every day. Today, freedom park has become a venue for diverse social events and recreational entertainment".

Freedom Park is not a new hangout but spending some time away gives more perspective. I enjoyed walking around and viewing parts of our history. From the sculptures/figurines to the busts of different individuals who had an impact in leading us to where we are. I love also the stamps on display and got to see the Ameyo Adedevoh one for the first time. Postage stamps are a thing of the past but looking at them made me wish I could take up philately (just kidding!!) Either way, you can come for the culture or just come hang out, they have quite a few food options... proper food, grills, etc. There is live music and a stage for events. A fish pond (hmmm), snooker table, name it.... Entry isn't free but a very reasonable price. Oh. There was an exhibition going on while I was there. Something called iphotography? I will share some pictures but the artist is great as well.. I have one word for this place... AMAZING.....

The is a closed compound with all sorts of artists visiting from far and wide, it's a nice place to relax after a hard day's stress. The serene weather covered with some tents makes it a very calm environment to relax with family and friends. This is a more classic exhibition type of environment. The prices are more moderate compared to other high class establishments of the same class around Lagos. The staffs are very nice but are hard to track, based on the work load they get. Loads of brands are occasionally invited to come showcase their brands. It closes 11pm so you need to be ready to move around late while you are enjoying yourself.

Freedom Park is the ultimate artist delight. Converted from a prison ground at Broad Street Lagos into an open park with strong art slant, Freedom Park has a lot for the eyes to see. From an open bar to exhibition rooms and monuments, there is so much I had to see. And I couldn't see it all. I will have to go back again and again. For writers, it's the perfect place to hang out and write. In most cases, if you are driving, you will have to pay for parking. And there are instances when you have to pay for entry or access to some areas. My friend, Lucia Ikediashi helped with these awesome pictures.

It’s an outdoor leisure park which has some sort of significant history to it. It’s got quite a big space. Great location and easy to access. It’s mostly quiet, except there’s an event going on. It’s perfect for family/friends hangouts, picnics, concerts and other semi-large gatherings as well. I wouldn’t suggest it for a date though because I believe people walking around can be distracting (personal preference). There are drinks and food for sale, few domestic animals for beautification and props that explain a bit about the history of the park. All in all, you’d love it there - I believe.

  • Zubair Oluwadamilare BADMUS

I visited the Freedom Park on a Sunday. On getting there, I paid for the entrance fee, which was #500. Frankly, during the day, there was nothing really much, just the flowers/garden, the pond and the crafts. But while it was getting dark and we were being entertained by some music bands, it got so interesting. Nevertheless, it’s a perfect spot for love birds who would like to have a time for themselves and have fun. Moreover, one can as well get foods over there, as there were varieties of kitchens and restaurants to choose from.

  • Oluwaseun Olarewaju

Loved being there because of the history. Went in the afternoon with the kids....there is no food for kids except ice cream. I dont know if it's because of the pandemic or it was just the day we chose to go there...it was dry! The museum also had ACs but they were not sufficient. I was sweating so much, I was dripping in sweat. Not comfortable. I loved learning about the history of Nigeria and Nigerian heroes and sharing with my kids....otherwise, I would have been bored.

Freedom Park is a leisure park in Lagos Island. It's a very beautiful park that hard to be a prison. Now it houses, stages for live concerts , amazing sculpture that depict the African culture , and also halls for rent. The scenery is very beautiful. It's nature's work of art! There is a main food court that has various types of meals from African to continental dishes. There is also the "point and kill" catfish pepper soup joint amongst others...

  • Victoria Chukwuma

I needed to host a mini scrabble competition and of all the places that came to mind, this was the perfect fit. Freedom Park is an Open space, airy, field-like with seats and tables, memorable and historical with nearby relatable food spots. Perfect for small meetings, games, friendly banters, lovers, and family alike. Plus, the historical background of the place makes it a perfect place for plays and theatre performances which happen fortnightly.

  • Aishwary Dale

I really loved the ambience of this place. It's a place right in the middle of the city, but you feel that you are away from the traffic and noise. Quite calming and comforting. It's elegantly designed with an amphitheatre, a food court and multiple depictions of Nigerian culture. Though I feel there should be no entry fees on days of no concerts (we went on a Sat night but there was no event), it still is a must go to place if you are in Lagos.

  • Solomon Ajilore

A very good place to unwind and relax....away from the hustle and bustle of the busy lagos stress during the day, It’s a good place for lovebirds to sit and have a chitchat and in the evening ....Enjoy the live band performance There’s a gate fee of #500 per person. Lastly, arts are placed on display right inside the museum, ponds and gardens can also be seen....not to forget, food and drinks are made available by various restaurants and bars.

  • SanyaOdare

This is an iconic and a historically beautiful recreation place where fun is unlimitedly available. Ticket is needed in order to gain access into the park. There are food and drink vendors on standby - and offering at pocket-friendly prices. The park comes really alive mostly in the evening. Nonetheless, visitors are allowed into the park as from 11:00am on Saturday. There's more than enough space for several cars to park within its premises.

  • Toke Solarin

I came here for the first time today and I had such a bad experience. I came with my partner to have a mini picnic and we couldn't even go in nor could we smell the place. It's a lie, they don't allow you to bring in your own food and drinks. That's what the man at the gate told us so we couldn't even enter. He wasn't even welcoming about any questions we had to ask. Such a bloody waste of my time.

  • Lekan

It was once an old colonial prison in Lagos but now it has been converted into a very Beautiful cultural park which is also used for concerts, events e.t.c. it has a nice foodcourt and lots of art that's really worth checking .The environment is pretty conducive for a nice and relaxing outing. If you are a tourist coming to Lagos this place should be one of the first places on your list.

  • Babatunde Banjo

A pretty fun place on Broad Street in Lagos Island. They cater to a very urban working class group of people. The service here is great and the music is actually very cool. The bar here is really scenic with the old prison grounds in the background, beautiful trees offering shade and live bands to give you a jolly vibe. The prices are very pocket friendly and the edibles is plentiful.

  • Tamara Claudius

Freedom Park sits on the grounds of what used to be a prison yard. There's a museum, a play area for kids and a handful food courts. It's a nice place to sit out and breathe a different air if you need a break from the stress of Lagos. If you're a lover of art, you'll also find the sculptures interesting. Entry fee cost 200 Naira for adults and I was told cameras weren't allowed.

  • D F

Great outdoor park for arts and culture. It’s always a great experience to watch a stage play at the amphitheater. Getting to freedom park is relatively easy, however be ready to pay for street parking and plan ahead of nights when there’s going to be a lot of traffic to the park. However during the day you can have a casual stroll through the park which was once a prison!

  • Mmesoma Aribe-madu. C

Was here for the Lagos book and art festival [LABAF]. A historical park with a reminder of African culture and art especially of the Yorubas. The pool is strikingly amazing. Freedom Park is a beautiful place suitable for hangouts, book readings and birthday celebrations. It has a soothing atmosphere. So Yeah I recommend it for a little leisure and a little rest.

  • Essien “Bobby” Wilson

Freedom park is a nice place to hang out. It is a serene environment and I was surprised when I learnt it used to be a prison. Apart from the bistros and bars for your chill time, there are other aspects that tell stories of lagos history. They also host music shows for different genres. If you've never been, its should definitely be on your list.

  • Liesel81

Heard about this place being a good location for music and concerts. visited it on week day so there wasnt any concert. Its a good place to hangout, there different sections and exibition that you can visit. The sitting area has been creatively done. There is an entry fee for the park , you can use your mobile phone but not a proper camera.

  • Abosede Ogundimu

A place to have fun and enjoy Lagos away from the hustle and bustle. You can enjoy some drinks and barbecue at the park. Gate fee is N500. From Obalende, board a bus to CMS and alight at Freedom park. If you drive, it is on Campbell Street. Be careful of driving against traffic though. Pictures were taken at the Park

  • Sagir

Fantastic place to hangout or to watch live concert. It use to be prison but now a #garden You can see some relics around. I love the water side and the goose playing with the water. The green atmosphere is amazing. I also love the stage for live concert. The food stalls are great to have some taste.

  • Omeire Okechukwu

Beautiful space if you are a lover of the performing arts. The acoustics in the amphitheatre is really not bad. It does feel overall crammed and the lighting at night could be a lot better. A major downside being the cost of refreshment in the park. Spaces such as this should have regular pricing.

  • Thami Frama

It's a beautiful park with a few greens and ponds. It's a park with historic significance; it was built on a former prison site. There's a gallery that displays some art and historic artifacts. There's a play stage and two other stages for events. You can also get food and drinks there too.

  • Azibanatayam E. Eda

It's an outdoor leisure park mostly quiet during the day time. It has some historical features. In my opinion, for what it's worth...I think it is not very well managed. I hear parties with live bands take place in the evenings. Overall, it's an ok location for a mini picnic or for a walk.

  • Joshua Adebanjo

It is nice place for relaxation but with few facilities. There are restaurants within the park selling different kinds of food. The gate fee charged to access the park is #500 per person. Overall the atmosphere is nice but could be better if the management carryout some maintenance work.

  • stanlee ohikhuare

A former place a "Pain" modelled into a heritage space for "pleasure& creative expression" by one of Nigeria's best! Theo Lawson. The food and drinks court offers great variety, you can take a walk around, even with the family, and enjoy live music in an open space. Absolutely lovely.

  • ADJUYA KEVWE

Prison turn park in the heart of Lagos island...amazing environment to have drinks and chill...with the best stage for life performance and creative performances, bars to grab some drinks and restaurants for some meals...small token entrance fee of 200 naira after 4pm. Great ambience

  • Oghenovo Egodo M.

I really enjoyed this place. Though just a park, it’s a historic landmark really embedded with fragments of our cultural as Nigerians. So, whilst you have a park to walk, somewhere to eat and drink, you also have beautiful things to see if you find your way to the right places.

  • Blaqpearl86

Nice park with some of the finest piece of Nigerian history displayed in arts. I love the original classics they play and the Brooklyn fast food by the corner was good. Taste their classic burger and relax and enjoy the evening vibe. #PictureCredit #MyBeautifulWifeNatalie

  • 2 Olas

This park is good for alone time or group time with your friends ,it is eco friendly and that's means you can do some reading under the trees , there is a night life there for the people that solely interested in that , drinks, food and finger food are sold on point .

  • Nosakhare Obaseki

Peaceful and serene environment. A place for a decent evening outing cited on old prison grounds with a piece of our colonial history with water fountains and quiet walk paths. Was there during the 21st Lagos Book and Art festival. Variety of stage performances.

  • Sandra Darlene

My husband, a few friends and myself like the atmosphere and the friendly staff. There are beautiful paths, statues and water ponds to see... great place to hang out with family and friends...there is a TV for soccer fans....5 stars! Oh and the food.....mmmmmm!

  • Oghenerobo Esieboma

I always enjoy visiting the park; it's like a fine blend of history and art, with a neat and quiet (when there are no events) environment. Vendors here sell food and nice art. If you are around Lagos Island, Freedom park is a great spot to meet with friends.

  • akinsola owolabi

  • Sheila Olajoyegbe

This place was great, a lot of history it was once a former prison there also a photo of the space prisoners lived in that is 6X6 now used for vendors and we stayed for a great concert of local artists giving a tribute to a musician Mike Appoh

  • elijah keys

I love the trees and a bit of nature... The atmosphere is good but they should specify the entrance for easy location and not give us issue trying to guess the entrance to the park.. Even the direction by Google didn't show the right entrance

  • Funmi Richards (FR)

The Creative Hub! The ambience alone makes you want to create something! This is my second time going to the park for an event and I have to say 'it is really an amazing place to be .' I am looking for a place like this on the mainland to

  • Laura Childcome

It's a very good hang out spot with so many outlets to buy drinks and food from. The times I've gone there to chill with friends especially on Fridays, it's always crowded (you'll wonder where all these people came from) last time I went

  • Pelumi Kolawole

The environment is cool and secured because it is close to Lion building police station. It is also close to the famous Lagos Island General Hospital, Saint Nicholas private hospital.and host of other popular places like TBS mini stadium

  • Abimbola Ogundiran

Great Scenery. Lovely park. A lot more can be done. The place looks unkempt and the park has a lot more potentials than is being utilised. Grasses needs to be well trimmed, the water pond is really dirty and looks like a mosquito pond.

  • Erioluwadamiloju Shodayo

It's alright as far as parks go in Lagos; cheap to enter, though you can't bring your snacks/refreshments in. The grass is mostly fake but aesthetic enough. The ducks and the pond with fish were the highlight of the place for me.

  • JJ JJ

It's a spacious place for outdoor events. Most of which are art related. Their gate fee is moderate and no food or drinks allowed inside. They do have their vendors within the premise. A good place for some quiet time alone too.

  • Reime O

Smelt like urine but was okay I guess, lots of art and history . Went to hear and see my dad read his book The Wretched Billionaire , had a good time and all just that smell, they also had nice aggressive looking goose so ...

  • Andrew Usifoh

  • Jide Samuel Adigun

Cool spot. A good place to chill out in the afternoon. It should be maintained more properly and made cleaner. Also, the workers need to be trained as they are very slow and disorderly when handling menu orders.

  • Nejeeb Bello

One of the best arenas for live performances in Lagos. Music, Drama, Poetry, Dance. There's also good food, and a wide variety of drinks. Freedom Park is located in Lagos Island, behind the Marina.

  • Emmanuel Ititim

They charge you a N200 gate fee which is standard. But if you want to film yourself or anyone here you will be asked to pay N10,000 or equipment will be seized. So much for being a "Freedom Park"

  • chioma nwaiwu

Spent an afternoon here. It was nice and peaceful. There was no much site to see but a lot of activities were going on there. There was an art exhibition and a live band in the evening. Was fun

  • Jesse Tomi

Asides from having laundry, unavailability of tour guides and a state-of-dirt water and fountain systems, it’s really a great place to sight see. The art works are original and intriguing too!
