This place has declined over the past few years and we no longer take our pup to this location. The catalyst was when we needed to get a shot that only takes a moment to administer for a condition that our dog has. In past years they've been able to sneak him in, often on the same day. I explained our dog was suffering and the condition was getting worse. They would not be able to see him for two weeks to give the shot and help our poor pup. I tried to wait it out but the condition was getting worse. I called a few days later after he was having issues sleeping and they said there was nothing they could do for us and reccomended an emergency clinic, to give a shot that literally takes a minute to give. I've been a long term customer and this was the last straw with Fremont Vet. Before this event I was already starting to lose faith in this business. l felt rushed out of exams our last few appointments even when I only had a few questions. Phone calls were usually not returned. The doctors and techs have always been great. This appears more to do with how they are running the business rather than the client facing staff. Advice to the business: take care of your current clients before you take on so many new ones. It appears you've become a victim of your own success and that's a shame. To pet owners in the area I highly recommend Roseway Veterinary Hospital on Sandy Blvd which is where we now go. Much more personable, reliable, affordable and still supporting a business in the neighborhood. EDIT: In response to the business "We always offer drop off service to accommodate those who require same or next day attention but do not have an appointment" This is not true in my experience. I told reception I could come any time, any day, on the fly, as I'm nearby and desperately wanted treatment. But I was told to look elsewhere if my dog needed attention. I'll also add my final interaction with this business: I left a polite message stating that I needed to get our dog's records. I'm still waiting for that call back, several months later....

I highly recommend Fremont Vet. Hospital to anyone that has a dog or pet, they probably see horses, birds and alike but one word for this clinic - beyond measure. I have known this clinic on a client basis throughout the last 15 years, with all my three border collies. They are in excellent shape and health because of all the honest care and attention that they receive at Fremont Vet Clinic. We all have our preference, and I have met them all but my husband and I request consistently Dr. Wendy Johnson. Dr. Wendy Johnson has taken care of my first border collie, Cactus from the beginning to the end and she takes such good and attentive care to this extraordinary border collie. At the final stage of Cactus's death, I was really amazed (and I truly mean AMAZED) how the vet tech's were supportive of these howling and crying human beings that were brought through the back door for her final shot and let us stay with her until her last shot was given for her last breath. Pay attention here, Dr. Johnson, unfortunately was not there that day, but all the doctors that have periodically have seen through the years, came by very gently through the exam room to say goodbye to her.. does it get any better than that. If I had to comment on the office staff and vet tech's, they are always polite, caring, organized and accomodating. If there is an emergency, they are there to help, as are the physicians. To the present, I have two other bc dogs, and as you know, once you fiind a good thing we stay with that treasure. I have complete confidence in the Fremont Vet. Clinic and I have referred them numerous times to the dog owners in the northeast portland neighborhood and especially Wilshire Park and the surrounding parks.

Were kind, friendly and compassionate. Great customer service and interpersonal skills when it came to discussing what my pet needed. Customer service and the way a medical professional talks to me goes a long way with me. I think there are a lot of vets that can do the same thing and provide good care, but at the end of the day how they interact and treat their clients is what keeps business coming in and I really appreciate that about them. I’m a new client and have had two great experiences so far. I have a young not fixed dog (wanted to wait until he was over 2 to fix) who has gone to training classes, but at his past vet seemed to be anxious and they couldn’t handle him and wanted him on anti anxiety meds for visits which give him diarrhea so I was nervous if it would be the same here and was delightfully surprised by how well they were with him and said he had no issues and cooperated well. They also informed me that if I wasn’t planning on breeding my dog (which i has been considering) it would be good to neuter him to prevent prostate cancer. Their overall tone and way they communicated what was best for my dog and me was welcoming, warm and not condescending and I really appreciated that. I have now scheduled his neutering and teeth cleaning with them cause those qualities won my trust and i feel good about them putting me dog under. I’d recommend them to anyone looking for a new vet provider.

I have taken my various cats here many times over the years. One thing I very much appreciate is that they have separate waiting rooms for dogs and cats, so during non covid times it is much less stressful for my cats to visit the vet. Even though I moved to Georgia for 3 years and both of my elderly cats passed in that time, when I was desperately seeking a vet for my little buddy and his peepee pain they were happy to accept us even though technically they weren’t taking new patients and I am super grateful that they were willing to make an appointment even though it was a different cat and 3 years later. The vets have always been kind and when they delivered the news that my elderly cat had kidney disease they were extremely kind and caring and understanding of how difficult a prognosis it was to hear. Based on their advice I was able to extend my cats life 4x past the prognosis and he ultimately passed of something else entirely. I’ve had to visit a couple of times during covid and have had no hiccups or issues making an appointment or checking in for non urgent issues. I’m living in SE now but gladly continue to bring my cats to this vet!

I found a beautiful, rambunctious pup wandering the streets late at night. She'd chewed off her leash. I posted on Craigslist, took her in for the night and brought her to Fremont Vet Clinic to check for a microchip. Nothing. They offered to take her in for a few days due to my weariness, but they'd call Multnomah County Animal Services if no one came looking. I accepted with relief, but gave them my phone number in case the owner didn't come- my roommate had expressed interest in keeping her if need be. I even took a card so if the owner contacted me, I'd have everything. Within two hours, the owner did contact me. I passed along all the clinic's information, just for him to respond shortly that she was already with Animal Services in Troutdale! The owner had to drive out and pay a $95 fee. I understood that a vet clinic is not a shelter before I walked in. I expected to go through some difficulty should no microchip be found. But for them to offer shelter, lie about the time period and then completely disregard my request to be contacted?

I am done with Fremont Vet. Six month ago I took my older dog in for severe diarrhea and they gave him fluids but forgot to give me or tell me about the antibiotics that the veterinarian has prescribed. It took two more days of my dog suffering and additional unnecessary tests before the vet realized they hadn’t given me the antibiotics. They pat themselves on the back in their response below by saying they are glad they could fill the prescriptions the next day, but the problem wasn't filling it. The problem is their staff missed it in the vet's treatment plan. This week I called to schedule an appointment for the same dog who is now dealing with a cough and they left me a voicemail telling me they couldn’t get him in within two weeks and I would have to go to an urgent care place instead. No offer of trying to get him in if there was a cancelation. Just go somewhere else. I believe the vets here are good but the management is so poor that I am going to seek better care elsewhere for my dogs.

The communication between doctors, desk staff, and technicians needs some serious work. Switched my Dogs medication in January during an office visit and when I called to have his meds filled I was told it had been over a year since my dog was seen by his dr, I argued this fact for weeks, including Januarys Bill in the argument and still, they would not listen. They prescribed 2 pills to give him an would do no more without an office visit. It had been 6 months, not over a year since he had been seen, and they didn’t even prescribe the current medication but the one we took him off during that apt. That I have a receipt for and they say didn’t happen (we took him off because of negative side effects). I absolutely love Dr. Ross, but the lack of communication and proper record keeping are an enormous issue, especially with a special needs service animal! So we are forced to find new Veterinary Care.

I just got my dog from my boyfriend's family because they were no longer able to give him the attention he needed. He has an obsession with his ball and hurt his toenail chasing after it in the yard. Chevy is a ten year old pit bull and I am still getting to know him, so I was not sure how he would do at the vet. I called to make an appointment and Grant was so nice on the phone and even spoke to me about Chevy after my appointment! They were able to get me in the same day and Dr. Roberts was phenomenal. She was so nice, professional, calm, and understanding about my dog's health and behavior issues. All the assistants and the front desk staff were amazing as well. I believe the assistant that helped us was Kim and she was so sweet with my dog even though he was super grumpy. I have to say it was the best experience I've had at a veterinary clinic. I'm glad I found my new vet!

When Buddy passed away, I was an emotional wreck. I had fairly good experiences with Fremont up to that point. I called in to see about cremation services. They had me bring him through the back door, through the employee smoking area, into the employee locker room and hand him over onto a stainless steel rolling table. It was horrible. On the way out the door, one of the Tech's said, "Don't worry, we'll take good care of him." They charged me a hundred and eighty dollars for this! Later when I had Happy cremated, I took him to the facility myself and was shocked that they only charged eighty five. Fremont took a hundred percent mark up. I have often thought of writing a letter, but it was just too hard to relive the pain.

  • Libby Holscher

I feel like my cat got good care here and things were reasonably priced, however now that they are having people come in to the clinic with their pets, every time I go in after they text me they are ready, all 4 people at the front desk just ignored me, no we will be with you in a minute or the tech will be right out, you’re just left staring at them with no idea what to do, this happens after the appointments as well when you need to pay, there’s always multiple staff at the desk and not on the phone or anything and again no one says we will be right with you or acknowledges you at all, it’s odd and mostly awkward, so took a star off for that but mostly happy with the care my cat received here

  • Sarah Heidler

Fremont has cared for our dog and cat for the past four years. Our old dog suffered from heart troubles, and I cannot say enough good things about the respect and care that both the animals got and we, as a family, got. Our decisions were respected and Dr. White pulled no punches and was clear in explaining options to us and respecting our decisions. Our last interaction with them was to sadly end the life of our suffering dog. We were treated with the utmost care and kindness. We will be back with a new pet at some point in the future, after our hearts heal.

  • Paul Holmes

Friendly, top notch service for your furry family members. I've taken my last 4 pets (2 cats - 2 dogs) to Fremont Vet for our pets care, and as well for our earlier pets their final visit. Fremont Vet set aside a room for us so that we could have as peaceful of final goodbye with our loved ones. Afterwards, we were also given all the time we needed to grieve before departing, them understanding the bonds that we share with our pets. The facility is also going through a renovation, making it a nicer place to bring your pet.

  • Taylor Garland

Honestly the best Vet clinic I have ever been to. Everyone from the Vet to the techs to the receptionists are all beyond friendly and give a great atmosphere for pets to be in. They are also easily accessible via phone for any questions we have had and explain everything in great detail. Very professional and very trustworthy as well! Safe to say we will always be taking our pup here regardless of how far away we may live! If you’re nervous about choosing a new vet, I would highly recommend starting with this place!

  • Hookset Automotive

They paralyzed my dog when in surgery . I understand this happens. He was an older dog and know that some times this is life. However for them refusing to say I'm sorry is just wrong. All I asked for was a simple I'm really sorry I was removing a tooth that was missed the first time and we rolled him wrong and separated his spine. But nope, they wouldn't. All they would say is you signed the content form and new this was a possibility .

  • Paul M

Dr. Reis has been looking after our two cats for 8 years and is the best. The entire clinic and vet staff are amazing. We recently met with Dr. Carter who is also wonderful. They all give you so much information that allows you to make informed decisions about your pets' health and they do it with heart and kindness. You can tell everyone here loves animals and it really shows in the care they give our pets. Highly recommend them.

  • bugzybelle

I absolutely love Fremont - the dogtors and staff have always been nice and helpful in choosing a health plan for my furbabies. Every time my pup would have an emergency, they took care of her no questions asked. Although the clinic is a business, I never see dollar signs, I see people who care about my family. I know that they take pride in their patients and their patients' parents. I will continue to take my furbabies there.

  • mimi

Honestly best veterinary care I've ever had for my dog dinah. Yvonne (Dr. Roberts) is so kind, knowledgeable and thorough. She really goes out of her way to discuss options rather than inform you of "here's what you're going to do..." type deal. She had a gentle way with Dinah and just an amazing way with animals... Which is why after we moved to Eugene, we would STILL see Yvonne for care. Totally worth it. Seriously.

  • Kim Brater

The best Veterinary Clinic hands down that we've been to in the area. They are always available and responsive. We have been with them for years with all of our dogs. Gentle, informative and really helpful. Caring as well - two of our aged dogs were helped immensely through their lives. If you have a pet, this is a great place to take them for care.

  • David Aldred

For a long while, my dogs were patients of Banfield Pet Clinic. Over time, I became dissatisfied with their services and transferred my dogs' care to Fremont. I have never, not even once, regretted that decision. All of the doctors and staff there are truly caring, exceptionally skilled providers. I can't imagine ever taking my pets anywhere else.

  • Amber Berardinelli

We’ve been going to Fremont for a few years now and cannot recommend enough. The staff is knowledgeable, kind, and they absolutely go above and beyond. Our older dog is anxious at the vet and they are so gentle and understanding with him (and us). We’re so lucky to have found a place where we truly have enjoyed every single staff member!

  • Colleen Dewdrop

Mehh. This clinic used to be better, but lately they've discounted and dismissed what my husband and I have been telling us about our dog and charging a LOT of money for nothing. I can't remember the one doctor's name, but she was actually quite condescending. We've switched vets, have gotten way better care and are much happier.

  • Rachel Henrich

Fremont Vet has been our families go to for pet needs since our first dog 20 years ago. We recently took our dog there who was injured on a road trip to them and they were outstanding. Throughly explaining all the information I asked and answering all my questions. These people truly love animals and I trust them with my pets.

  • Matt Hider

'"Hey fremont vet, I need to put my 13+ dog down, but he's in pain and Compassionate Care can't come for 6 hours" Ans:" we can't get him in today but you can bring him in tomorrow" how do I give 0 stars? Screw these guys .2 cats , 1 beautiful black lab, and I'd never go back with a new pet..it's a business for this practice

  • Kit Sandstrom

I’ve always had a great experience taking my dog here. The staff is organized and friendly. We usually see Dr Veach who is awesome. She’ll meet you where you are in terms of how aggressively you want to treat your pet without judgment. She’s even taken extra time to call and follow up. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

  • Madison Golding

It took me a little while to find a vet in Portland I wanted to commit to, and an even longer time on the waitlist but it was worth it. Fremont is the first Vet in Portland that made me feel heard and really took time to answer all my questions and take good care of my two pups. Can't recommend this place enough.

  • Daren Johnson

My pup has had a bloody paw on and off for months. We live in Las Vegas and the vets there did not really grasp the problem. We came here to visit friends for the month of June, and as a previous patient they were able to get her in. Thankfully they found the issue and treated it. She is healing up quite well

  • M.C. Rocks

The only place I will bring my pets. Professional and kind staff. I always feel like I’m the only one they are serving when I’m there. They are good which equals being busy. Book in advance for routine check ups. However, whenever I call they have always been willing to help or suggest services that can.

  • CARRIE SCHULTZ

After our local vet got very popular (long appointment waits) and very expensive we decided to look for a new vet. We’ve been here twice now and both times they were very friendly and professional...super thorough and reasonably priced as well. So glad to have found a great vet in NE-highly recommend!

  • Laura Belk

My kitties love to visit Fremont Vets. The receptionists, vet techs, and veterinarians are so friendly. They love cats, don't over-recommend meds, and are very respectful of our choices. They even managed to trim Boot's nail in just a few minutes. Miracle! So glad they are our vets.

  • John Hill
