Hey Gail's! I hope you don't remember the review that I posted some months ago... it wasn't particularly flamboyant, insightful or well written, I did have some grievances about your drink selection, covid set up and staff in general, maybe the grey weather got to me... I am happy to write today about Gail's, now one of my favourite London spots with a general appreciation and warmth. Despite my first visit to this particular store, I have since returned many times to grab a coffee, resist the beautiful pastry selection and I even ordered an enormous bag of pastries for Christmas morning which kicked our unusual 2020 Crimbo off in style! I can happily report that Gail's in general, and this store is no exception, is a delight to visit, the ambience, the products, the staff and the general ethos tick all the boxes for me... I would write more but I'm hankering after a coffee of and I'm desperate to try the potato and rosemary bread so laptop shut, shoes on, incoming!

I have been to many off your stores numerous times especially the store in Wimbledon and Putney. I usually always order the same thing a flat white and a almond croissant. Today, I visited the store in Wandsworth Old Town and what I received was not up to the standard that I normally receive. The croissant was soggy almost damp underneath. I’m no baking expert, but croissants aren’t meant to be soggy, which means they are undercooked / proof ( I assume). I spoke to the manager and told her it was soggy. I got back attitude and a response of “They are all like that. They just came out the oven”. Which was not the response I was looking for. No apology. Just handed another one, which was worse and inedible. I expected to be refunded. Disappointing. Plenty of other places I can go for a coffee and croissant.

I had a really awful experience the other week at this Gail’s. For medical reasons I am avoiding dairy. The barista made my coffee and after a sip of it I was pretty sure it was made with dairy milk, so I asked her if it was oat milk. She said yes, and I asked her again are you sure. I wasn’t trying to be antagonistic - I genuinely wanted to know due to the health reasons mentioned. She then took my coffee back, quite aggressively threw it down the drain in front of me and then made another one, all the while telling me off in front of the other customers there and my children from questioning her. It was horrible, intimidating and has made me really cautious to go back to this Gail’s.

Shop opens at 8am and I was there at 8:08 yes, 8 minutes after they opened and only 1 Pan Au Chocolat on the shelf which the only other customer bought before me. I asked if they had more and was told they were sold out!!!? What? After 8 minutes? I can’t imagine there’s such a hype for a Gail’s PAC that they sell so quick. So what do they sell for the rest of the morning? The problem with big chains is that standards slip. TIP: Go around the corner to Lockdown Bakehouse and the lovely team there have plenty of freshly baked pastries. Sorry Gail’s

The worst. Gails food are superb but the service is horrendous. I got a few things including a loaf of bread takeaway and being treated like I shouldn’t be there. I got three cakes and when I asked for a bag cashier threw the bag to me and expected me to take up my separate cakes and serve myself. Then the manager came up while I was waiting for my cakes, and asked if I’ve been served in the rudest way. If it wasn’t for the nice food I would’ve avoided this joint at all cost. How awful.

Love going to Gail's for my breakfast but I don't understand why always take them so long to bring the order to the table, even if there is only one person in front on me , many times I had to ask for take away after being waiting for more than 15 minutes for a coffee and pastry ,which really upset me because I like to seat down and have my breakfast before work, I mean I've worked in a coffee shop before and definitely shouldn't take this long to make a coffee

  • Dianne Meyer

About high time we got a decent bakery on our street. And sour dough as well. Absolutely wonderful and decent coffee too. Friendly and welcoming staff, bright and spacious inside. From the outside you would not be wrong in thinking this looks like it’s going to be expensive, but honestly prices are incredibly reasonable. They offer options for everyone from various milk options to flourless cakes. Yup definitely will be visiting this place on a regular basis.

  • Merve Simsek

I had a chance to try two of their baked goods as 'take away' recently. Spinach-feta roll was divine, so recommended! In tahini-chocolate bite, tahini part felt a bit missing. The staff was lovely and helpful as they took the time to list the ingredients to me: if you're reading this, thanks a lot for your time! Overall, such a lovely place. Wish they open some stores outside of London in the UK as well.

  • Cíntia Barbosa

Overpriced and poor customer service. Apart from the fact they make you always feel you're boring them, I paid £3.80 for this hot chocolate with less than 150ml, boiling hot being impossible to drink and the worst foam I have seen. Just Lt save your money!

Over priced food and nothing special. Gail's is all about style over substance and the atmosphere is poor. You don't sell drinks like Coke, presumably because of the 'image' which is a mistake Won't go back!

Pastry was so great, even my coffee I love it so much... I usually put sugar on my coffee but when I sip it Whala.... Taste so lovely in my buds... Staff so friendly and very approachable. Specially they have manners always saying thank you to customer, smiling while serving, place so clean and tidy. Weldone to the manager and staff.

  • Lorenz Tusha

I was here not just one time... Sometime they dont show respect... And other times they give you the cofe but the sugar they dont have...and they dont tell you sorry for this but just no we have finish... Finish the sugar in cofe shop... Go guys and do builder because you are not for this business... Dont waste money and time there..

  • Nonstop Eating

Finally have Gail’s at doorsteps! I’ve been watching this store from refurbishment till opening, haven’t tried the bread yet, but the cakes are so good. The flourless choc cakes, the muffins and brownies are all with trying. Coffees also taste good, well, better than the Costa a few doors down (personal opinion).

  • James Wilson

Just got some scones from Gail's and asked for clotted cream which always comes with it . To watch the waiter open a full 2 kg tub and be told by kitchen staff he can't take even just one spoon full because its the last tub even if I'm doing a take away I just spent £20 at least let me have for one of the scones.

  • Sae J

Great little place to grab a cup of coffee or pastries or bites, they serve milk alternative: oat, soya for vegetarians. There are sitting places inside but temporarily closed due to covid19 just as same as other places - hopefully, stores can have their business back to normal soon.

  • Vinolin Naidoo

Cute little cafe nestled in the main street of Wandsworth. Walking past this cafe is hard to do without being drawn into the mouth watering cinnamon buns displayed. I ordered a simple cappuccino and cinnamon bun, which I promptly devoured. Light but full of flavour. Worth a visit!

  • Nataliya Slivorska

What a wrong approach to the customers! Very bad customer service, leading to terrible experience! Charged for something they didn’t have for sale , then blamed a customer for not knowing what customer wants! At least , they have refunded but what a wrong attitude !

  • Tiya J

Visited the wandsworth town old York rd location , the staff are not bad very friendly indeed. I had a problem with the cleanliness the blue chairs were full of hair ( some of which looked like dog hairs ) and the table was dirty. I will stick to battersea branch.

  • Viorica Miulescu

Love people at Gail's Wandsworth Town and Kings Road. Special thanks to Marta at Wandsworth and the Spanish girl from Toledo and Juan at Kings road. Food is amazing, all types of bread and bakery. Remember, Gail's have the best cinnamon cake in London.!!!

  • Ruth Letcher

Thoroughly enjoyed my leisurely breakfast at GAIL’s. Staff were very energetic and friendly. My chosen breakfast dish of sautéed mushrooms, spinach & fried egg on sourdough was tweaked to my liking (no goat’s curd) without any fuss and tasted delicious.

  • rozay freeway

Rude employees. I wanted to use the toilet and they said it’s under cleaning process. I asked for how long and they rudely said 2 hours. Thank you Gail’s

Happen to come across this cute little cafe on a walk and I was very impressed with everything. Loved the coffee latte and the everything that we ordered was just so good and freshly baked. Would definitely go here when in the area next time.

  • Federica Gamberini

I love the atmosphere at this Gail's. The Maiolica walls combinedw a very great choice of colours makes this bakery cosy and warm. Coffee is great and pastries are also delicious. Looking forward to sip a hot chocolate in there next winter!

  • kel lin

The bakery is usually pretty good here. Decided to try the milk hot choc. today, it was disappointing, prob of the worst hot choc I've ever tried. It was warm, bland taste like water TBH. Would not order this again and not recommend this.

Christmas playlist on the 11th of November... wanted to leave but realised too late! Friendly staff, but overpriced and not great quality baking st this branch, albeit limited sample.

I visit Gail's on a daily basis and I just had to leave a review for two amazing members of the team - Marta and Carmine. They are both so friendly, personable and polite and are an absolute credit to Gail's and the local community.

  • yaminamassilya LADJOUZI

The cafe is so cool. the hot chocolate 75% was as bitter as my soul needed alongside the flour-less chocolate cake. The space is so cozy and chill. I will definitely come back to work from there and enjoy their bakery. Good luck

  • Brian Sharland

Fabulous local bakery chain that bakes truly scrumptious bread and cakes. Also they do great lunch or tea time snacks as well. Really good coffee too. The young lady at the York Road branch (SW18) was particularly helpful.

  • Tristan Bonn

What I have found with Gails is that they can vary in quality quite a bit. I have lived across the city and been a customer since their early days. This branch is consistent in good quality and they also do coffee well!

  • Cristina Barlow

Friendly staff, lovely selection of pastries and sandwiches, the only comment I would have is that maybe there is slightly too much sauce on the sandwiches :-) but otherwise a really enjoyable experience

  • Jess Mezo

I had a wonderful cappuccino here the other day, just the right amount of foam! The lady at the counter was super lovely, too, and their outside seating area is pretty great for a little rest, too.

  • Michael Morgan

Gone from 5 stars to 1 Gail's get competent staff who can make coffee! you have two headless chickens having a melt down on a daily basis. If your in a rush to catch train stay away from gails

  • Pudkrong Pilchowska

Scones is no longer server with clotted cream and Jam! why? when you charge the same? I do understand if you want to put the price up but do not cut corner .Stuff not very polite and help full

  • David Brown (DIB0K)

The best almond croissant outside France! When combined with their excellent coffee it’s heaven. Great location in now pedestrianised Wandsworth ‘Village’, all in all a very continental feel.

  • Marccello

Visite varios Gail's y este es el que tiene el mejor ambiente, el espacio mejor logrado. Ya soy un fanatico de Gail's por los excelentes cafes. Facturas, sandwiches, panes y ensaladas

  • James Nahach

A very good chain of bakeries in the London area. I pictured a ham croissant, which was good. My favorite was the sausage roll. I loved them but my family was not as high on them.

  • Edip C.

Mushroom quiche and blueberry custard were delicious (could add more cream). Like the tea as well could be warmer( give the pot a pre wash with hot water). well done guys.

  • Christopher Trimby

I’ve never sat down to eat here but everything I’ve ever bought has been absolutely delicious! I particularly recommend the Parmesan chicken roll and the quiche Lorraine.

  • Harsh Hemrajani

Very clean cafe, the staff was very polite and the quality and the taste of food is amazing. They have separate price for those eating indoors and take away. Superb!

  • ulgen semerci

Very poor vegan options. They have an almond butter bagel on the menu but the bagel contains milk. Hard to understand why they wouldn’t make 1 or 2 vegan pastries.

  • Tatiana Lobanova

As always fresh even warm pastry, we came early around 8:00 am, very polite staff, all nice and clean inside. Coffee was perfect, hot enough to enjoy immediately.

  • Dick Paul

Just opened and a welcome addition to York Road. Great food, super friendly staff. The number of loud small children at Sunday lunchtime just takes the edge off.

  • Ciscu M

He anat a esmorzar. Lloc correcte i amb tauletes exteriors. El carrer abans hi havia molt de trànsit. Ara aquest tros l'han fet peatonal i s'està molt tranquil.
