I researched this train line before my trip due to its notorious reputation and glad I did. I traveled on the off season so the train was not crowded (I got a seat) or hot. I found the platform OK but was stumped as to when my train would arrive. A guy sitting on a bench near the stairs could tell I was a tourist, asked if I was going to Pompeii and I said yes. He told me when that train would arrive. He then asked for a donation which I was glad to give.

The line is massively overcrowded with tourists (like me and my family). We were lucky to get into the train, which was extremely packed. I was holding my three year old on my hands for most of the journey, which got delayed by around 20 minutes (both directions). Many passengers didn’t fit into the train. Commuting nightmare.
