I’ve taken my kitties to Dr. Dahlquist for several years, since well before Covid, because I used to live in the nearby apartments. Dr. D is a little strange, but in a good way. After a hectic ordeal involving my kitty being hurt, I was super stressed out and anxious, he called for a follow up to my appointment and said to tell my cat Freyja he says, “(insert meows)”. I was cracking up so much. He handles the fur babies easily and with respect, he takes great care of them. He even lets them smell the swabs and interacts with them while doing their exams and vaccines. He’s very informative, I typically ask a ton of questions and I never feel rushed or like he’s annoyed with all the questions. I’ve even called after with more questions and they’ve always been very helpful. The staff has always been wonderful to me. I have severe anxiety so my cats are emotional support animals, Dr. D and the staff have always been very kind and supportive when I’ve been worried about my kitties. I’ve called the office staff crying and they were so compassionate and caring. They are always clear with an up front cost estimate and charge average prices for services. I’ve never had them upsell or try to charge extra, they don’t create a sense of urgency just to get me to spend more money with them like other places do. We had to try different meds to get my kitty well and they didn’t force me to do a new exam every time like other vets do. I have since moved twice and even though it now means a 30min car ride, I won’t take my fur babies anywhere else. My only issue is that I do prefer Dr. D and I wasn’t informed until the day of that the other vet there would be doing the exams at my most recent visit. She’s great as well, but I do prefer Dr. D.

MOST AFFORDABLE vet clinic in Portland! Trust me, I spent 4 hours on research and called 8 places and looked at 12 animal hospitals/clinics in the city (from large hospitals with multiple locations to small clinics to specialty holistic places). My 3 year old pup was due for vaccines and annual wellness exam. I got quotes from other places ranging $250-600 - insanity! Gateways’s rates (quoted by Alyssa on the phone who took the time to answer all my questions) were almost too good to be true after all the other quotes. But the reviews were also better than most other animal hospitals. So we scheduled (for 2 days later, no wait either) and went! Just finished our exam with Dr. Dahlquist and assistant Lynn, who took the best care of us. Dr. Dahlquist was hilarious, gentle, caring and really good with keeping my anxious pup calm. This was the first time getting shots and drawing blood was no big deal - Milo didn’t even wince. The whole exam took about 30 minutes. No one rushed us. The whole staff was friendly. The hospital was clean. Our questions were answered. We even got free treats and goodies to go. SWEET DEAL! Our entire bill was just over $100 for everything including vaccines. So happy we found this place! We are now big fans of Gateway Veterinary Hospital and will be recommending it to all others.

Up until now, I've been happy with this clinic. They seemed to care about my dog and listen to me. My Lady was my life. She was everything to me. She passed away after Xmas and we chose to take her to gateway vet as we did in life. She really liked one tech in particular who always commented on how she looked just like her old dog. If I had known my baby's ashes would be sealed inside an ugly cardboard box that looks as if it came from dollar tree, I would have taken her elsewhere. This is disgusting and disrectful! No one told me she would be in a cardboard box. My cat's ashes are in a wooden one that I can paint. I can take a couple screws out if I want to spread his ashes somewhere and still have a memorial for him. I would have to completely demolish this ugly thing to do that for my Lady. I don't want to see her ashes and have no plans on spreading them for the foreseeable future. This is heartbreaking all over again! I felt relief when I got my kitty home; I just feel pain and disgust that my last baby is put in a cardboard box. They didn't even take a pawprint and they said they would! I wish I would have taken her elsewhere.

We've had issues with local vets in our area, but our male tuxedo cat suddenly started having nose bleeds and losing weight. The first vet I called couldn't get us in, but they referred me to Gateway Vet & Dr. Dahlquist. They were able to get us in the following day for an exam. Everyone at the clinic was amazing and kind in an extremely emotional situation, and gave us all the information needed to help make our decision. Their staff sent us a very nice card and condolences gift. Their thoughtfulness and kindness is immensely appreciated, and their care during the appointment was top flight. I love getting all the information needed to make decisions, and they were exceptional in that respect. Plus, I appreciated their humor and attitude during a difficult time. I enthusiastically recommend Gateway Vet and they'll be seeing our other kitties very soon.

I cannot say enough how much we love this Vets office! They are kind, affordable and just overall very pleasant. We had to put our cat Simba down :( and they were just so incredibly sincere. After Simba was gone, we said our goodbyes and I though I was ready to leave, turns out I wasn't. The awesome Vet heard the door open and close and thought we had left. He opnened the door and noticed we were still there and said how he though we left and he didn't want to leave Simba in the room alone. We have been here several times and EVERY time they treat our pets like they are their own. It was a sad experience, as expected but they made it easier. Dr Dahlquist (probably spelled that wrong lol) is the BEST and his staff are great :)

I've been coming here for about six years for the care of my cats and dog. The veterinarian care is affordable and Dr. Dahlquist works with his staff to keep all pet parents well informed and checked in on in-between visits. They remember things for me so I don't have to, like sending out mailer reminders for upcoming annual check ups, or calling me to confirm appointments and checking in after one of my pets have been seen. I think it's a great model of care. I regularly call them to ask about pet care, prevention, etc.

I was in need of getting a dog scanned for a microchip after finding him wandering in our parking lot. A co-worker suggested Gateway since they are close and she'd been there in the past. I was very impressed with my experience and the level of concern displayed for our lost little guy. Having moved into the area a couple years ago I was looking for a vet closer to home and have found it. Best news is that Jake and his humans were reunited later that night despite no chip.

Do not go to this place the staff are incompetant, this includes the office manager. In which she is rude and obviously doesn't know how to run a practice or the law. Do not go here. I can't really talk about the Dr. Care but I can only imagine if the staff is rude as well as the office manager. I can guarantee that the treatment in care is poor. Also I'm pretty sure that they will take this post down since they denied me of giving me the Dr's information.

I can’t begin to thank the staff for their amazing support and help getting me and my pup back up to speed! You guys have been so thoughtful and compassionate to our little family and the vibes are high, it has been a joy working with the staff and their ability to provide a truly exceptional experience every time we’ve been there and called. I believe that as long as we, meaning, customers, should now be allowed to go in with our PETS and not have to sit in our car, as long as we wear a mask as well. I have a dog with anxiety problems, when he's not with me, so I feel I need to be with him. TV doctors have said it over and over again, that Covid can spread to your pet's as well, so there's no reason why we shouldn't be able to go in with our PETS.

I came here for a second opinion. Though I ended up having my kitty's procedure done at the first place because the cost was comparable and they could do it a little sooner (and even Gateway vet said I should because it would be sooner), the honesty and kindness of the staff here impressed me so much. They even called to see how my furbaby's surgery went, after I had it done at the OTHER place!! Top notch.

Dr is thorough does a good job with our dogs n he makes sure he explains anything we don't understand they're very polite n do their jobs to best of their ability this vet is pretty good only downside is they can get quite expensive if u let then run all the tests n stuff they want u to do but other then that good place to bring your fur babies!

Over charging for everything including fleas pills that can be purchace directly same brand other places. They also want to not let you leave site before full payment after appointment which they won't give you full amount till after with no payment plans. I will be taking my cat elsewhere and will never step foot in this establishment again.

My neighbor recommended us to Gateway Vet and it’s by far the best vet we have ever been to. We wouldn’t go anywhere else. The people who work there are kind and great communicators. The vets are professional, really listen, answer all questions, and offer options. I feel like our pets are in very good hands. The whole staff is top notch.

Been taking my cat here for 2 years ive always be treated amazing my cat has always gotten quality care. When ive had larger issues they always try to find time to get us in or call if there was a cancelation. These guys are super friendly and take good care of my dog. The vet is really funny and keeps the mood light. My dog is a pain at the vet and they deal with all his drama and antics. We originally chose these guys because they accept pet assure (highly recommend looking into) and we never regretted the decision.

Had a dog with a ear infection called every place in town they couldn’t see the dog for several days and wanted a ton of money, Gateway vet hospital saw my pupp within the hour they were sooo nice took great care of my doggy and were priced way lower than anybody else. Highly recommended!

I’ve been taking my pets here for a couple years and I am so grateful for everything they have done for my fur babies. They do what they can to work with us when finances are tight, the care and comfort they have provided is honestly unmatched. I will never stop singing their praises.

They took great care of my little buddy when we had to do the snip snip. They also were very helpful when the booger got into some poison. I would highly recommend this doctor. Their prices are very reasonable and the care given is exceptional. Wonderful staff all around.

We had to wait a little longer than we wanted to to check up on our cat, but the assistant apologized for our wait and offered to get us something to drink. Not only are the staff here kind, but the main Doctor is very straight to the point and knowledgeable.

People are pushing for service. I explained that my dog was in quarantine. Despite my explaining that, called two day's later! Telling me that I have a appointment for tomorrow! Asking if I had all things ready to go. Same person too!

Dr Dalquist is amazing and fare. Doesn't push un-needed tests or work. His prices are affordable and he is spot on with diagnosis and treatment. We no longer work near the office but still travel up to his clinic for our dogs.

I have a dog and cat who loves Dr Dahlquist. I appreciate the way he explains things and their costs are reasonable. I think the office staff works well together and the methods and treatment plans are not out of date.

My furry and not so furry family members have been in the care of Dr D and the staff for several years. They always go above and beyond to help me care for them. I recommend them to all my friends and their humans too.
