Please do not go here. It's run by the most irredeemable bunch of scammers and cheats. They run a very intricate scam where you will be stopped by an 'engineer' or 'doctor' who happens to be casually walking by; doctoring the truth and engineering utter lies, more like. He will recommend this shop to you and will say that they are 'Government' run and that they have very high quality products; that they purportedly only accept Egyptian Pound as well. If you read several of the other reviews,they all say the same thing. This shop completely broke my trust in the Egyptian people; it's a travesty that should be shut down. Their products are cheap, flimsy and utterly rubbish. Their products are also overpriced and are clearly made in China and shipped in en masse. I would suggest you walk down the road a few doors and go to a little hole-in-the wall place called Abo Simple Bazaar. It's simple from the outside but it's what's inside that matters. Abo Simple has a very genuine seller who smiles and doesn't need a coterie of scam artists to get business. The seller at Abo Simple told us his prices, was very patient and was pleasant throughout. He never pushed and neither did he force us to make any purchase. Whilst his products are simple, they satisfied me more than one can imagine. It has to do with trust, I believe. I feel utterly let down by this 'Government' gift shop. The Egyptian Government should look into this utterly disgusting practice as they're dragging the entire nation's name through the mud.

This beautiful gift shop is located across the street from The Egyptian museum. It's a small shop with 2 levels. But in that small shop they have a ton of souvenirs, papayrus paintings ( printed or unique handmade ones), oil paintings, scented oils , blown glass decorations, silver jewelry and many more items. When we entered the shop we were greeted with smiles. The owner Tika and his staff were very welcoming and they offered us drinks. We accepted tea ☕ offering and it was delicious. The souvenirs are priced 3x to 5x cheaper than the museum across the street and cheaper than any other store we went to including Khan El Khalili Market. The prices are labeled for most items. They also accept credit cards. The main attraction is their handmade Papayrus paintings, those are beautiful. Each painting is unique. Must buy at least one for your home. Just ask Tika for discount and he will do his best. After completing the transaction ,as we were leaving the shop , I noticed a beautiful scarf and I wanted to buy that for my mother and Tika just put that in our bag and didn't even charge us. Before we left the store, Tika gave us 2 cold water bottles as well. He escorted us to the Uber to make sure we got in the right Car. Tika is a good honest Man!! Can not recommend enough to visit and shop from this gift store for most of your souvenir needs and more stuff at a heavily discounted price. SCAM! DON’T GO!!!! These guys must have gotten doctor degree in the art of scamming. Pretty sure it’s the same case for the shops along this street. They have actor around the shop who act like a very good local man and lure you to the shop. Me and my family were walking across the street to the Egyptian Museum, then this random guy come and say we should go to this and that Museum, and say they are now in a break for prayer, and will open in 1 hour. He said have a good day and walked away. He then act like he remembers something and walk back, to say actually there is a bazaar nearby, and since this week is a special week and the shop is “government owned”, they have good quality and low price. He rushed us and “helped” us cross the street. Next thing you know you brought something out of the store with less money in your pocket. I can’t really judge if anything is real in the shop, but if this is how they lure customer in, there is very high probability that they sell fake stuff. First they say it’s government shop so it’s fixed price, after you continue to try bargain, they gave in?!?!?! Very very very disappointed in Egyptian just because of these people, our days are ruined, museum visit become rushed since we spend 40 wasted minutes in this scam shop.

Please just go to Khan el-Khalili. You will spend approximately 5-10x LESS for the exact SAME products. Here is their “luring” tactic by the way. As you are walking around the Egyptian Museum to find the entrance, there are men that will come up to you asking if you need help. They will say he works for the museum or say he’s a student and just wanting to help (just like most of the sly salesmen around Egypt do). He will show or tell you where to enter, but then say something like “you should probably wait an hour before entering because of x, y, or z.” But, don’t fear, there is a bazaar nearby that you can walk around in until the hour surpasses. Which they say has “official government prices that are marked on products so you won’t be deceived.” So, of course, my Fiancé and I went there thinking we should wait an hour before going. As I could feel, they were pushy and salesmen. I had a feeling that we were probably going to be paying too much for products here, but I trusted that their prices were good. It was also my first week in Egypt. Turns out, after spending a month in Egypt and visiting other places, you can buy these papyrus prints for 30LE vs. 200+LE. Seriously, save your time, dignity, and money by going elsewhere.

A fantastic gift shop with a wide variety of souvenirs all with prices displayed, unlike many other places, and the prices are also very reasonable! When we visited, the salesman (who spoke good English) was very welcoming with a bright personality, not pushing for a purchase but rather showing all their wares and explaining the different items. We bought some souvenirs here for a fraction of the price of other shops, including even some of the cheaper options available at the Egyptian Museum, which is only across the road. If/when you visit, let them know you found their shop through Google - they will be very pleased about it and may even give you a discount off the displayed prices as a bonus! Would highly recommend this shop as somewhere to go in Cairo.

This a great place. FIRST, the nicest people in Cairo. They have hand painted artwork and the best oils in a city that is filled with great art and oils. They love sharing Egyptian culture. I’m visiting from America and went back multiple times to enjoy tea and buy art. Also, my new friend gave me advise on a great local restaurant. ‍♂️To make sure I got there, he walked me 1/2 mile to it, talked to the waiter and helped me order an awesome Egyptian dinner. He also rejected the tip that I offered and said “No my friend. Money is not everything. We are brothers. That is why I brought you here.” He gave me a big hug & wished me well. We were very excited about our trip to Cario. After visiting this shop our trip became even better then we thought. After meeting Ali, we were able to purchased quality gifts for our family and friends. The service did not stop there. We were offered refreshments and offered help with deciding what to do in Cario. He suggested a museum that we had not known about which ended up being the place that held the mummy exhibits. He also taught us about the Egypt culture. We actually stopped by daily to visit during our stay. Our family and friends really enjoyed the wonderful things we brought back from this store. We felt bless to have met Ali and his brother. Wow! We stumbled on this gem of a gift shop on our very last day in Cairo. We had done everything from day tour of the city and tours of the pyramids and Giza and struggled to find quality souvenirs from the shops we were taken to and it didn’t feel like honest or genuine business. We were greeted by the friendly Mr. Tika who confirmed our suspicions about the tour shops and gave us a lot of confidence, laughs and quality souvenirs at honest prices! Please do yourself a favor and stop here before buying things from the tour. Even if you go and buy things on the tour, you should still stop here for honest prices and friendly business! Beware the SCAM from these scumbags - As the other 1 star reviews said, this is a scheme where a supposedly nice man will approach you on the street near this store and claim he’s a “professor” at AUC or some other bogus trustworthy profession. He’ll say you should wait to visit the museum since “all the tour buses will be there now” and instead recommend you spend time in this “official government run” shop where you don’t have to haggle because the prices are already pre-set. In fact, it’s the same generic made-in-china souvenir shop you’ll find anywhere in Egypt, but these scumbags charge triple the price. DO NOT BUY.

We had excellent shopping experience at Ali’s shop! Will strongly recommend this shop to my friends who will visit Cairo. The sliver products are in good quality, and the price is good. Especially if you want to look for some really art of Papyrus paintings, this is the right place. It is like a museum of papyrus. The papyrus are printed by artists with very pretty color and design. I work for a big fragrances company, but the fragrances in this shop are special. You can use cash or credit card, and this is a cozy place to shop. The owner, Ali is a very nice person. On our very short Cairo trip, I have visited Ali's shop 3 times. From the first time, me and my friends are amazed by how nice and genuine Ali is. It's more like a friend introducing us to something new instead of a businessman who was trying to sell us stuff. Not just that, he also recommended us a nice local restaurant and other stuff. And the perfume and gift I purchased from him are so amazing, friends love them very much. Really can't recommend him more. I’m so glad I came across this shop! I think it has fair and reasonable pricing - fixed price with some discounts if you buy several souvenirs, which really helps if you’re someone like me who doesn’t know how to haggle. Like other reviewers we were shown this place by an employee of the hotel we were staying in. Said it was a government shop with fixed prices. We discovered pretty quickly that we could bargain and did! After hard bargaining, I bought 2 fabulous paintings amongst other items at prices I was happy with and I now have 2 beautiful paintings on my walls as reminders of the wonderful time in Egypt! It is a case as always of ‘buyer beware’!

I googled nearest souvenir shop to my hotel and this establishment had great reviews so I visited. I couldn’t have been more pleased with Tika who helped me find the best gifts for loved ones back home at a great price. Unlike many other bazaars I’ve experienced, there were no aggressive sales tactics or pressure to purchase. I would highly recommend to those looking to purchase quality souvenirs at a reasonable price point.

Best shop I've been into the whole time in Cairo. The shop owner is so lovely, not pushy at all. I was after something specific that he didn't have it so unfortunately I didn't buy anything, but he was so lovely I would highly recommend a visit. He's got a range of good value items and also more expensive options. Worth a visit if you're after a nice experience in a shop free from the hassle you usually get.

We visited this shop two weeks ago. We highly recommend visiting it to grab your souvenirs. All the prices of the items are labelled (good news for those who hate to haggle), the prices are reasonable and the owner is very nice. Unlike most sellers in Egypt, he wasn't pushy and let us shop in peace. Moreover, he gave us a discount on the total without even being asked to and gave us a free fridge magnet.

This IS my preferred gift shop now! After one visit, I knew this was a place I would spend money. Tika and his team are kind hearted and have quality souvenir items for sale. I just found this gift shop when traversing downtown Cairo, so I hopped inside and Mr. Ali, the salesman was very accommodating and will give you huge discounts if you purchase. 2nd time in this shop, I bought papyrus (a lot of choice), ear rings the first time and nice boxes today. The boss is very friendly, they propose discounts if you take several items. Prices are on display and you can get lots of different products, from low to high prices (higher quality of course!). I totally recommend !

Finally a shop we weren’t pushed into by a guide but found on our own. They explained the difference between the printed papyrus and hand painted. Loved it. It is cheaper than some other places. Great service. They have everything from souvenirs to papyrus, in my case me and my wife got many oils, they are set price around 200 pounds a bottle (small). They even have the blown glass bottles, hand made obviously and engraved.

第二次来了，前几天在这里买了四瓶男生用的香水，带回去送给朋友们，也学习到了很多香精的知识，后来发现，无论哪个店，香精的品种都是一样的，所以最终还想继续在这里购买四瓶女士的香水，价格也没有怎么搞，主要是放心，毕竟让诚实的人赚到钱，也不是什么坏事。所以又买了一些，非常的开心。明天就回国了，也祝此店家生意越来越好。
