I’ve worked for gyms in the past. LA Fitness as well as Genesis Health Clubs (which is the company that crushed then bought all the Golds gym locations in Kansas). That being said I understand the employee and membership experience of high quality gyms. Unfortunately this location does not provide that experience. If you take away the employee aspect of any gym, they’re all the same give or take a few amenities. In every gym I’ve ever been to or worked at, certain equipment in group studios are off limits outside of participating in a class which is highly understandable. But NEVER until tonight have I seen or worked for any gym that lets employees walk around in workout clothes telling members they can’t stretch in an empty room. I was stretching on the wall and the ShamWow guys walks in wearing blank tank top telling me I can’t be in there. Then we have this exchange of him telling me that no matter what I cant come in there and stretch when the room is not in use and can only be in there for a class. Mind you there's no signs anywhere that say this, and i read my entire membership agreement, not in there either but my membership does include "STUDIO" whatever that is because group fitness was also in my membership. After I finish my workout the shamwow guy is behind the counter. I shared with him these details and let him know that i may be found stretching there outside of class times, of course. Rather than providing any ounce of customer service he instead took my membership info down and basically told me, with extreme confidence, the manager would be calling me to let me know i cant stretch in an empty unused room. Shamwow guy last name was Lopez on his nametag I think it may have said front desk manager which surprises me that someone with -37 out of 10 customer service would ever get a promotion there. **UPDATE** I was contacted by the gyms manager, Moses Rodriguez, today and we had a brief discussion resolving this. Due to the fact that my initial review was due to lack of customer service, I have updated the review from 1 to 4 stars, because Moses was so diplomatic and service oriented during our conversation. He assured me that all staff will be trained on this situation. Thank you Moses for being a great representative of Golds Gym
Signed up for a membership with my wife and sixteen year old son for a membership last Fall. At the time we were promised a $20 a month fee each as we were "founding members" of the gym. We were promised $20 gift certificates with Amazon and given tee shirts. The fees were to be deducted from our credit card when the gym opened. We were told we had to option to cancel our contract after 12months and that there were no additional fees. We were charged $32 each per month starting in January when the gym opened. In February we were each charged an additional fee of $115.By the time we noticed the fee discrepancy COVID had hit and we were unable to talk to staff. Gold's then put all of their memberships on hold for the month of April. We tried to call customer services and sent them e-mails with unsatisfactory results. We went to speak to the local manager to straighten it out and were told our membership wouldn't expire until March or April of next year because our annual membership reset when they reopened the gyms following COVID. The manager explained that the three $115 charges were an annual fee they charge everyone, but he couldn't explain why it was charged in February instead of September when we signed papers or in January when we were first charged. The manager explained that he had to fire all of the employees who made the initial agreements in the trailer at the building site and that he was unable to honor the agreements they made with customers. He explained that now he makes sure his employees disclose annual fees to customers. He encouraged the three of us to get notes from our doctors explaining that our health prevented us from coming to Gold's, and explained this would end our contract without charges. At one point he said their customer relations department left much to be desired and that he has spent time with customers on hold for huge amounts of time at his gym trying to resolve issues. We paid $300 dollars to move on and get out of this nightmare.
Update: Beware of customer service. Lord forbid you have any billing issue with this location or Golds Gym in general because they are useless. I’ve attempted to rectify an issue with my account for weeks now after my card was compromised from providing them the information over the phone and their only solution offered is for me to provide my new card information over the phone aka the same way my card was compromised in the first place. Who in their right mind would do that?! I questioned whether a friend could physically stop in to pay my account just to be told yes and then for him to get there and be told no. There membership website doesn’t work and the manager has presented nothing but a IDGAF attitude. Changing my review as I am still dealing with this BS. Firstly, I’d like to give kudos to the older Latino gentlemen that works here. Everytime I see him working he is on top of things, constantly re-racking equipment, sanitizing, and greeting patrons. The best employee this gym has. Overall this gym is 3. I gave them a three due to their cleanliness (when the Latino older gentleman is not on shift) and my disappointment of seeing what they actually do when closed for “cleaning” between 1pm-2pm. In theory this sounds great, especially with Covid still being a thing but it’s not what it appears. I came before, and stayed through 1pm today to see what type of cleaning occurs..... All that happened was one of the younger males went around and cleared the trashes. After that he returned to the welcome desk and him and the rest of the employees just stood around chatting. No one sanitized any of the equipment in anyway (not even the stationary mats) or reorganized any of the equipment. Realistically, it’s seems like this 1pm-2pm time frame is really just used to thin the crowd. Staff is overall friendly, regularly greets you coming in and out, but it seems that only the gentlemen I mentioned above truly cares about the upkeep of the facility.
I’ve been a member at Golds gym for 10 years and in all of time here I’ve never been treated with such disrespect until i encounter the front desk staff here. I’ve been to this location a couple of times as well. I walked in and scanned my badge I have the golds plan which when I got it I was told I have access to all the golds gyms however when I walked in they told me that this gym was only for members with access to level 3 membership. I was baffled when I heard this because I was never notified by Golds and the front desk swear they sent a email and I checked all of my emails from golds none of them mentioned it and not only that one of the front desk lady was being very snobby about it when I explain my disappointment about this because it’s not the policy I am upset with even though I don’t agree with it, it’s that I was never notified about it and then one of the front desk lady gives me attitude through her body language unacceptable. To through even more salt on the womb they were like well you can stay sense you didn’t know and the way they said it was snobby like well we will allow you to be one of us today and I was like no thank you! I will go to another gym that will accept me sense I’m not level 3 access and they thought when I said that I wanted to cancel my membership hahahahhaa. Honestly those two ladies working the front desk need to get a new job poor customer service and very arrogant and snobby.
Due to the city of Austin construction issues this location was not able to open until mid January. Then they surprised us new members with a prorated fee on January 24th. (They were not supposed to start taking out the monthly fees until February 1st, 2020). But instead chose to charge certain members a prorate fee before the due date WITHOUT NOTIFYING US FIRST BY PHONE NOR EMAIL. This caused an overdraft fee from our checking account. This does not count the annual fee due next week in February. The employees at the new center are nice and smile alot. But when it comes to being honest with your account that's another issue. I had found out that this new location was open by accident driving by (since they never notified us of the grand opening). I left the three stars because the equipment itself is awesome. But after this issue with the surprise prorated fee, I reduced it to 2 stars. Still hoping they at least install another water fountain soon. (they only have one).
Edit 10/8: FOUR MONTHS, still attempting to charge me. The management is scum, trying to steal $$ from people.. DO NOT GIVE THIS FACILITY MONEY, GO TO ANYVOTHER GOLDS!!! Edit2: THREE MONTHS and stilll trying to charge me after canceling. DO NOT GIVE THIS LOCATION $$ Edit: over 2 months after canceling my membership, they are still attempting to charge me, again DO NOT SIGN UP HERE!! DO NOT USE THIS FACILITY IF YOU BRING ANYTHING OF VALUE (ie phones, wallets, and/or keys) they force you to pay for a lock for lockers AND a PREMIUM level membership fee, and refuse to provide locked lockers, while they ask you to leave if you carry a bag to KEEP YOUR PERSONAL ITEMS SAFE FROM THEFT!!! I signed up yesterday, and walked out on my workout, AND canceled on my way out of the door today. If the facility is a theft risk, THEN THE PARKING LOT IS A BIGGER THEFT RISK!!! But, your membership dues aren't a part of providing a SAFE experience. Give another club your monthly dues.
This is actually one of the nicest Golds I've been a member of. The equipment is in good condition and the facility is well designed. The problem I have, along with others I've talked to, is the facilities bicycle studio. Why do they have to have their music so loud? Seriously, they turn the music as loud as can be, it shacks the gym and you can hear the instructor yelling from outside. Even with my ear buds turned all the way up, I can barely hear my music. Half the time there is only two or three people in there and for an hour we have to deal with that ridiculous yelling and bass. Its a shame cause I've had to tell so many people in my neighborhood to avoid this gym just because of the cycle studio. What's funny is that Ive asked the staff about it and they have all said that people complain about it all the time. Seriously, LA Fitness is right up the street and there's another Golds on William Cannon, go there and avoid the bicyclists.
I have been a member at this Gold’s location for a year and a half. When I signed up I was given one free training session, which I accepted with no intention of carrying on. I did 1 work out with Harrison and have been training with him and loving it ever since! He is AMAZING!!! 3 months ago I also began attending fit/burn classes. I absolutely love the way that I learn new skills, build strength, and my coaches support me. Noami has crushed it as both a programmer and coach in these sessions, and I am SO grateful. 4/5 of the classes I attend each week are lead and programmed by Noemi and she is AMAZING in both aspects. I can’t put into words how much these classes have benefited me, physically and mentally. Chris is also always inspiring and encourages me to push harder and do more than I knew I could. I highly recommend this gym for solo workouts, one on one training, or groups classes! Whatever is right for you, you’ll find it!
It feels like the floor itself is smaller but the class rooms are bigger which is pretty cool for anyone who has that type of membership. They have a TON of plates and dumbbells which is great. Even the 2.5 intervals. I like that because week over week, if I want to increase my weight, I can do so without having to go up a full 5 lbs. They have a nice.new style of machine which is awesome. They are missing hip adduction and abduction machines which I use a lot so that's disappointing. Why not 5 stars? The day the gym opened, I went and worked out. When I went to take a shower, one of the stalls in the locker room had no door. The hinges had pulled out of the wall. They are missing a couple machines I use regularly and there is a towel drop but seemingly no towels. For a gym that had trouble opening due to circumstances beyond its control, it seems as though the management could have spent the extra effort making it really perfect.
Music is WAY WAY WAY too loud here. When you come through the front door you’ll get blasted with a noise level that’s extremely unsettling for 5am. Why?!?Why must they play it so loud?! Even with my headphones on I can’t drown this “concert” out while I “try” to enjoy my workout, it’s that bothersome. As stated in previous reviews, equipment and facility in general is lovely, wonderful, new, all those things; however it is definitely limited. You will always be waiting for what you want to use, it seems. No one’s fault, really, they just need more machines, truly. I really liked this gym when it first opened because it was closer to my house. Based on these two factors, (noise and wait) I now only come here when my time in the morning is limited, otherwise I do avoid. Gold’s Corporate, I do hope you’re reading these reviews, a lot of consistency in them from many of us in this neighborhood. Thank you.
I joined back in May of 2022 and couldn’t be more stoked on a gym. I’ve gotten to know the folks that work there and if amps go to ten, these people turn it up to 11! One of the most supportive, friendly, and knowledgeable personal training staff that I’ve encountered at a gym to date. If you’re not going to one of the many classes they offer, you’re messing up. Legit, you can’t go wrong with any of them. If you prefer to workout alone, the machines are great and I’d say most folks there are fairly mindful and friendly. Phone texting is big thing between weight sets at any gym, but anyone I’ve asked to share the machine with usually steps to the side- don’t be afraid to ask! And lastly, a big shout out to my trainer that’s changing my life and helping me with my health journey every dang day, Chris. Thanks for keeping me motivated, being an ear, and making this weight- loss party a total blast!
I signed up for a membership at this facility and I will admit that I did not pay close enough attention to the contract. The membership requirements stated that I sign up for the year with an early cancelation fee of $100.00. So when covid hit I was unsure about going in and working out in a mask so I stayed away. I tried to cancel and the management offered me the option to freeze my payments for three months. Well, they held my monthly payments for a few months which was nice. So now that I have decided that since my year requirement is up to cancel my membership. I was just told that since the payment freeze was used that I would have to pay the early termination fee or pay up to June. Saying all of that I would like advise all that are thinking of joining this location to please pay attention to the contract that you are signing.
I’m only giving this two stars because the facility is usually clean and I had a good experience with one of their personal trainers. The staff who are usually at the front desk almost always look completely disinterested and like they have anything better to do. I don’t come often, but during my last visit, the man at the desk (I don’t know his name) walked past the machine I was using and informed me of the no bag rule, which no one had pointed out to me before. I was willing to comply, but didn’t have a lock on me, so I went to the front and I asked if they had locks or lockers with combinations. He said no like he was very annoyed and nothing else. When I asked again if there were locks I could use, he told me in a very condescending way that they had locks I could buy. Had he not responded that way, I might’ve bought one.
I would strongly advise people that are looking for a no frills gym to avoid this Gold's location. As their customer base grew, they haven't done anything to mitigate the congestion other than put some racks outside. There are rooms full of racks/equipment (inside) that aren't accessible and aren't being used 75% of the time. These rooms are for classes only. This gym also isn't open late or 24 hours. When I spoke with a manager about the fact that these are constant complaints and that they have seemed to hire more staff instead of possibly shifting hours or getting more equipment, I was told this is what we get. This gym is more geared towards senior citizens or people that would like to take group classes. All equipment for regular attendees and those attendees included are second priority.
I decided to try it, got there and was greeted by the person at front desk. She had me fill out some wavers and then told me to have a good workout. Lol , walking into a new gym can be quite intimidating, specially if you have no clue where to go… I walked around exploring the place, walked into the CrossFit area thinking I could use it but apparently it’s a scheduled class so I was asked not be there, I had no clue since NOBODY showed me around. I was there for a bit longer using free weights, I couldn’t stand the smell, the building is too small for all that is going on and very crowded. On my way out I asked what the slow hours were : “this is slow and maybe closer to 2pm but we are always busy, we are the busiest in Austin Tx” . So …. I’ll have to go somewhere else !
The worst ever since I signed up with Gold gym with No Contracts , every month they charged me an additional 20 dollars because they say my card doesn’t go threw. When I brought this to there attention they “credited” my money back for next months bill then next month comes around and the same thing happens I’ve had to change my account number bc of this. After I canceled online I was told that I would be charged an additional month it’s been almost 3 months and I’m still being charged as if the cancellation never went threw. Today I went in person and there was no manager on duty so I was given a cancellation form and now more than likely I’m gonna have to pay this months bill and the additional month. It’s a scam seems like so much for No Contract.
Actual message I sent to someone about this gym. Just a heads up, the new Golds Gym, on Slaughter and Congress, is trash. Everything is too pushed together. The rooms are closed off when there is no classes so you can’t work out in them. They didn’t add enough benches nor the set up for seated cable rows and lat Pulldowns (you know what I’m talking about), there is only 3 of each. ♀️ Also, there is too many treadmills (not including the ones in the room you can’t use unless there is a class). I feel like they could have done way better. They need to ask the public’s opinion on the next gym they make. Maybe I can create a blueprint of a layout and submit it somewhere. It’s just a bunch of useless rooms.
Today was the opening of this Gold’s location and I’ve never been more disappointed in a Gold’s gym. The gym is absolutely cramped (not because of the people working out) but because all of the square footage has been set aside for the Golds Fit, Golds Cycle, and Golds Burn classes. I understand that these classes are where the revenue is but the rest of the gym suffers because of it. Furthermore, there is only one water fountain that I could find. One. That means when this one inevitably breaks there will be no working water fountains on the gym floor. The fault in this Golds lies with the design team and their usage of floor space. The Golds on West William Cannon is the better option.
YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS. I got my property stolen and they had me running through multiple steps to recover the footage. First I had to file a police report and now after a detective served them with a letter requesting the footage they want a subpoena to release the footage. A subpoena is generated from a order signed by a judge. It's not an easy task (I'm a lawyer so this isn't speculation). Of course, the severely underfunded APD said they do not do subpoenas on a misdemeanor theft. I never wanted to get the cops involved, I just wanted the guy kicked out. Go somewhere else and you'll be happy you didn't go to a gym where corporate only cares about the bottom line. Unbelievable
I can't give you five stars because people like a girl with green hair think that she's the owner of the gim I started going to that location because I was comparing where is the best place to go and she didn't let me go in because I don't want to buy the expensive membership she says because you're guy's have more equipment than others locations hehehehe come on that is not a good thing to try to be a better gym than others thanks to her I didn't want to pay more with you guys and I don't recommend to go a that location and if someone ask me I don't recommend you guys anymore thanks and by the way I have long long time with this membership and never someone treat me like that
It’s a typical Gold’s. Middle of the road quality, staff is accommodating enough, it has enough equipment for most people to get done what they need. A great pro is turf outside with the sled & tires. A major con is the quality of the barbells. Anyone who lifts at at least a moderately high level can tell you the importance of a quality barbell especially for big lifts like deadlifts and cleans. Their barbells are imbalanced and feel almost plastic in your hands. A Texas and/or Ohio bar (specifically for power movements, no bicep curls or any cosmetic things like that) would be a fantastic addition, and the regulars who come in to get heavy work in would be very appreciative.
I like the gym, I just wish it was 24/7 or at least longer hours. Longer hours would help alleviate traffic during peak hours as well, as people could come at different times. I work nights, so it can be difficult to fit the gym in during the day. There isn’t a lot of variety in machines. Only 1 pec deck machine, which is always being used by someone. I think the floor space is not being used efficiently. The layout needs to be redone so that more machines can be added. This gym has a lot of potential to be great, but it seems to be stifled by Golds gym not being a franchise. They should give each gym more freedom so that they can better fit the needs of their community.
Staff is always nice and welcoming. This place can get really packed. Good spot for ladies to workout and not feel gawked at. Why? Cause it's know for the "gay scene" some of the queens can be really annoying. Thirsty outfits and obvious attention seeking behavior can make some people feel uncomfortable. Yes I'm taking a out the guys. Im also gay so no I'm not homophobic. It's just too much some times. Other than that the equipment is good. The outside workout area is good. Best time to come workout out is early Sunday until around lunch. Friday after 3 Saturday it is hit or miss. During the week, early morning is great throughout the day. After 3 it's insane.
I have been working out there for about month and from my experience every things is great everyone have mask on and 6 feet distance the gym very clean and there is always someone of the employee walking around and cleaning equipment, the staff is very nice and welcoming the manger is very cool professional and helpful, my trainer ((Eddie)) doing great job and know what he doing always making sure I am doing the right move and not hurting myself He even text me when he on his vacation to make sure I am doing alright and if I have any questions about the exercise , you can tell from the culture that this place care about there members to get great experience.
Nice gym and new equipment but good luck using it. Lots of people doing circuit training and taking three or more equipment. Can not even get a workout in. Squat rack, bench press, or a bench of any kind. Might have to wait a hour or more before one becomes available. Very limit squat racks and bench press and people are doing circuit training. Doing two other machines will people waiting to use the equipment. It has gotten so bad. One than once had to wait over a hour for a bench or squat rack due to people doing circuit training using the equipment. The will do one set of squat or bench and leave for 10 to 15 minutes to do another machine.
Solid gym. Good equipment and in good condition as well. Friendly staff when I’ve had to interact with them and it’s a decent location. As others have indicated though, the crowd is ridiculous. All gyms during peak hours can be rough but even during off hours, this place is busier than others. I’m thinking the reason is because the alternative Gold’s in the area(E. William Cannon / 35) is a joke with half of everything broken, in disrepair and the cleanliness non-existent. I’m willing to be thats a solid driver for people to frequent the Congress location over the other southeast spot. It was my reason for coming back to this location.
I've been with Golds for about 9 years now, and this location is by far my favorite. I have been with the studio program since it started, and Ren Tipton and Noemi Matos are the best coaches I've ever had. They are so smart, and no matter what annoying question I ask about a movement they always know the answer. They do everything with safety and longevity in mind. Ren is also an amazing powerlifting coach, and helped me through three meets so far. She's incredibly thorough and keeps super up to date in the sport. An amazing community in Studio also, which I've noticed has really gone away at a lot of other locations.
Could be a 5 star experience if something can be done to expand the facility or manage the crowd. Equipment is clean and well kept, staff is friendly and welcoming, fellow members are polite and friendly. The crowd is perfectly acceptable during off-hours but good luck getting a full session in if you go during peak times. Quite literally, every station is occupied and people are standing around waiting for something (anything) to open. The attendance at this location has gotten to the point where they should consider implementing a reservation/wait-list entry system during peak hours (if they are unable to expand).
I joined Golds 6 years ago when I moved to Austin and they have always been great. Not until recently they have shifted their branding to be more of a Planet fitness and this includes the other golds gym in the area. The staff there are not very friendly or helpful and seem annoyed whenever you ask them for help or a question with the exception of peace sign girl, she’s awesome. The manager only walks around looking for things to call out members for and even when she’s up at the desks seems like she doesn’t want to help anyone. My wife and I will be looking for a new gym and will be canceling our memberships here.
After cancelling my gym membership and filling out the paperwork in store I’ve been billed four times for a membership. Multiple calls to the gym and they say they cancelled it and don’t document anything, eventually had to call corporate, they say they can’t refund anything even though their employees lost the paperwork and did not document any calls about it. So they supposively finally cancelled it. After over $100 dollars billed. Do yourself a favor and sign up for a different gym so you don’t get robbed from these people. They don’t care about customers they just want to take your money and shrug you off.
Ive been going to golds for over 6+ years, This location is by far the worst. They charge almost nothing for new memberships, so you get members who have no gym etiquette, they literally had gym members stealing equipment and thought the solution was to enforce no bags on the gym floor instead of removing those members. The staff are dismissive and on multiple occasions went out of their way to avoid being helpful. I’d suggest a different location or not going to golds at all. The experiences i’ve had here has caused me to change gyms completely. They don’t care about retention or your loyalty.
Nice clean gym with dope lighting for videos the atmosphere in there is badass the gym goers are cool but when did golds gym become planet fitness you can’t record yourself for self progress you can’t even text in the gym what ??? You can’t have your gym bag you have to carry all of your stuff you will constantly see someone stalking you walking the whole gym making sure you’re not breaking “the rules” which is annoying nobody minds if you do any of that only the staff that works there apparently so I will not be coming back here I’ll stick to the golds by my house they are way less uptight.
Please be careful at this gym my brother had his car stolen from this location, they went in and took his whole gym bag from a locker due to the bag policy, in the bag was his wallet and his car keys so they took his car and by the way this was only 2 days after a previous theft incident that was also not informed to the members. Mrs.Moses Rodriguez please make sure you inform your members about these thefts so others don’t go through this hardship. Also please reconsider this bag policy, or at least provide locks for your members I think it’s the least y’all could do.
Been working out here since I moved to Austin. I used to be a trainer in FL, and as I watch the trainers here, they are better the the majority of those in FL because they actually pay attention to their clients. Majority of people workout out here are pretty decent and respects your boundaries and space, although it can get a bit busy. Just about every time I enter the gym I am greeted, which is very pleasant. I do have a few issues: Taking photos and videos are prohibited, which makes no sense. And there is zero usage of chalk. Still gets 5 ⭐️ for the other reasons.
Let me first start out by saying the staff here is friendly and will often do what they can to accommodate. However, the equipment here is extremely limited and the facility is often over crowded. This is also the first time I’ve experienced a gym refusing to let their paying customers use their cycle studio without an active class. I would understand if they had bikes available outside of the studio for use but they don’t. Is this an insurance issue or liability that the gym refuses to own? Please someone explain it to me. Thanks in advance.
There’s a certain worker there named RICHARD who cleans the machines that was really rude when I was confused why there were towels on the treadmills even when I politely asked him if I was able to use one and then was very rudely told “I’m cleaning THEM” Also this has happened to not just me but to my brother as well after he cleaned his hands in the mens restroom He very rudely said “ I just cleaned that” I understand someone’s hard work and I appreciate cleaners but the attitude was unnecessary. Please fix this golds gym. Thank you
This gym has a great energy and the staff are incredibly friendly overall. I recognize that the following critique could be a general one for all gyms. However, this gym is significantly worse — blockers. There are almost four instances every week I go to this gym where people are blatantly texting or watching videos while sitting on machines. They take 10-15 minutes at a time to just sit there. There has to be a way of moving traffic along, as often times multiple people are waiting.
Edit: They expanded the hours on Saturday and Sunday - more packed than ever lol It's a nice new gym in a fast growing part of town... But the crowds are just a joke. I usually wait pretty late to go, and there just isn't enough equipment for the amount of people there. It's not at all a comfortable or enjoyable time to work out at this location. Y'all gotta do something about all these folks! And you can't say "oh try our club at an off peak time" - there isn't an off peak time!
I have never been able to get a squat rack because they are always taken or people don’t respect me waiting for one and just grab it before I can walk up (I’ve been at all different times of the day) Half of their equipment is currently broken and they don’t have air conditioning on the main floor. If there was a gym closer to me I would go to it but this is the only one within 15 minutes of me. I’m pretty close to biting the bullet and getting a lifetime membership.
Came back to gold's after a hiatus due to you-know-what, glad to see they are enforcing mask usage covering mouth and nose, and cardio machines are socially distanced well enough. They emphasize cleaning the machines after use too, and the facilities are well kept. The only concern I'd say is the free weight area can get a bit crowded, but everyone does their best to maintain as much distance as possible. Looking forward to getting my body back in shape!
Pros: it looks nice, is clean, and equipment is in good condition. They just added another squat rack, totalling 4 racks. Managers walk the floor occasionally to ensure everyone is following safety guidelines for COVID. Members do a good job of keeping machines clean Small outdoor area which has some shade. Cons: The layout is cramped, and best accommodates cardio machines. Staff is okay. This is one of the busiest Gold's I've been to. .
Great Gold's location, it has modern setup and equipment. I went for cardio today and the 3 machines I used all felt great with no sticking like some other locations. The men's locker room is very clean and bright; I especially like the shower stalls with plenty of space. I would give this location 5 stars if they had a pool and actually required people to wear mask, which is still required in Austin, but not at this Gold's Gym.
Honestly if it wasent for the receptionist at the front desk I would have gave it 5 stars. I love the gym, I love the energy, the environment. But the guy at the front desk always has attitude and is always rude. I’ve seen him be rude to plenty of people. Don’t know how he still works there. If you don’t have your barcode he rolls his eyes if you want to buy something he rolls his eyes. Very unprofessional.
I have been here a few weeks now and I love when I come in I’m always greeted so friendly with a good morning or asking how I’m doing. Kelsy is so friendly and always goes out of her way to talk to the guests and get to know them. This gym makes me feel comfortable and that the staff genuinely cares and loves their job! The gym is very clean and the staff is friendly. I’d give 10 stars if I could!!
Nice equipment but not nearly enough to go around. Also beware of the contract and don’t trust their word. I asked to be billed once and signed a notice the same day I signed up for my membership, because I would be leaving for military service within the month. They are still charging after the contract. Seems like others have also had problems with fees and charges after the contract is over too.
Love coming here. Also very happy the golds employees have been regulating the gYm BrOs with their tripods recording and duffel bags being all over the gym floor. I will say, avoid the afternoons between 4:00-7:00. Very crowded and you’ll be dodging free weights. All the staff is super nice and I love seeing the maintenance/cleaning guy in the morning. He’s so sweet and seems to LOVE his job.
My favorite golds gym! Everyone I walk in it feels homey. The workout equipment is fairly new and works better than other golds I’ve been too. All equipment is up to date with new technology embedded. The restrooms and showers are the nicest and always clean. If you have a bag, make sure to leave it in your car or bring a lock for a locker as they started a no bags on floor policy last week!
Had never been to this location before. Got to the fit class a little late due to traffic and work. Walked in to be told rudely by the instructor (girl with pink hair) I can’t take the class because I was late. I show up late to the other ones and have no problems. The girl was very rude about it and Then proceeded to just turn around and ignore me. Will never come back to this location!
This location does have very nice and new equipment but it is also one of the newer Gold's gym in the area. My two complaints for this gym is the bench seats near the dumbbells are too tall and the busy times in this gym are way too busy! It is impossible go through a normal workout routine during the afternoons. I would recommend going to the other gold's gym at that time.
Have experienced several Golds in the area and this is the best hands down. All the big stuff you want is outside (tires, sleds and such) and all the rest indoors. Kristi is always there to help you out with anything you need and goes the extra mile. She definitely puts the customer in customer service. Everyone tends to be polite, work in, and that goes a long way.
This is a newly-built gold's gym and requires a premium membership. All the equipment is new and they do have a lot of cardio studios and group classes that are focused on high intensity training and CrossFit style workouts. The equipment is all brand new and very adequate for what you will need but they are definitely crowded at peak hours like most gold's gyms.
Overall the place is pretty amazing. It's clean, packed with machines with sufficient room to navigate between them. I can live without techno music. They have lots of group classes, more for the Gold's fitness classes than the non or base membership. Friday's Zumba could use better calling so you know what to do next. The staff is amazing! Showers are available!
Please install a small ledge in the bathroom stalls as a place to hold water bottle, phone, headphones, keys, etc. Please install a ventilation fan in the toilet area, which is fully enclosed and traps "smells." It would be great if cardio machines came with a fan option. Lastly, please add filters to water dispensers, they taste like pool water.
They will charge you $70 to cancel your membership as they require a 30-day window post cancellation. The sauna is filled with people in sweaty gym clothes, because there is no direction or concern from Gold's to shower and change clothes before going in -- even though this has been addressed. Have fun getting a bacterial or viral infection in there!
This gym is usually decently clean which is about all I can say about it. Over crowded and not enough equipment to go around. Bathrooms are constantly out of order. And they recently jacked the monthly rates without notifying the members. When I asked why they told me it's because they added uncovered equipment outdoors. Perfect for those 110° days
Pretty great gym. I really enjoy the Zumba classes. The only improvement I can suggest is the sauna in the ladies locker room has been out of commission for two months now. I've noticed things getting fixed in a timely manner earlier in the year so I'm trying to be patient. I like to meditate in the sauna after my workout and haven't been able to.
The gym itself is very solid. There is a good variety of machines/equipment and it's kept relatively clean. The crowd is brutal from 6:00am-8:00am and 4:00pm-7:30pm. The addition of the outdoor equipment has helped make rush hours a lot more manageable. Hopefully they add some dumbbells and squat racks to the outdoor area. Overall a decent spot!
Great gym. Nice amenities. Even enjoy the much needed addition of equipment on the outside/turf area. Would of gave 4 stars but they are pretty consistent with opening late on Sundays. 5 or 6 people standing outside the door. 10 or 15 cars in the parking lot. All of us waiting at now 7:40 am for the gym that's supposed to open at 7am.
After a month of coming here during busy times, it is pretty tough doing the workouts that you want to but it is understandable since so many people are there in the afternoons but most of the time it is manageable to an extent. Other than that nice and clean, dope turf area, and classes that people can enjoy and air is always cool.
I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the energy at this gym location. Had a really great cycle class. I've being going to the South Central location for a few months, but I'm definitely going to be coming here instead. They have so many more classes to choose from. But locations are good, but this location really impressed me.
I love the Studio classes at Gold's Gym. Ren, Noemi and Jennifer are fantastic coaches! They are tough but make the classes fun and ensure you get an effective workout while maintaining proper form. Just make sure you show up on time or they'll make you do burpees or won't let you into class after the warm up to avoid injury!
This is the best Golds location I’ve been to. Great equipment, clean facilities, and the staff are friendly and helpful. No one likes wearing masks while they work out, but the staff here are diligent about enforcing the law, which really helps me feel better about continuing to go to the gym during the pandemic.
It's a nice gym. Only giving 3 stars because they don't have nearly enough dumbbells 30 lbs and below and not nearly enough benches. This area of town could easily support a gym with twice as much space. Crowding and waiting on equipment is a regular problem at this location, South Congress near Slaughter.
Nice place with even nicer staff. Specifically Luis Patino. Works nonstop to keep the place clean and hygienic and it shows. Plus he’s gotta be one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. Always joking around, motivating people, and working hard. Love him, the other staff, and the gym. Great experience.
Although a relatively clean gym, there is no real off peak time. You will spend more time waiting for a machine than working out. Once you find a machine, you will be bombarded by guys asking how much longer you will be or asking to cut in. Embarrassing small for the size of the crowd that uses it.
This gym is always clean and management is very quick to address any issues. Morning manager James Garcia was on duty and was quick to respond to a billing issue I had. It was cleared up and he made things right with my account. I definitely recommend heading to this gym and giving it a shot.
I love this gym so far I been in this gym for over a year now. I love the staff their so nice to me and they even say hi and bye to me if I’m leaving or coming in the front doors. The equipment are nice and the bathrooms are clean which I really like about it. Thank u guys for having me.
I have to say that this place is nice and that the atmosphere is awesome! My suggestion is to get more leg equipment inside. 2 leg press(hmmm) ..May I suggest 2 of each ... you have the space inside for it. It was too darn hot for me to workout outside...Overall Great Place and Staff!
The classic silver sneakers class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday are great.Jennifer is the best instructor. You feel stronger and more flexible when you take her class. The front staff is very friendly and helpful. Luis does a fantastic job keeping the gym clean. Management is great.
The staff very friendly and helpful. Very clean. Great lighting for a progress selfie. The only thing I would like to change is add more weighted machines and move the cardio machines to another area. The lack of equipment and it only being 1 floor means lots of congestion at times.
4 stars just for the fact that even if it is one of the best, I feel that it is one that the most people attend. There are always people! Always. At any time, any day of the week. In other ways, as I said, one of the best: clean and modern. It has a sauna and towel service.
I had my car broken into while at this location. Not the first time I’ve seen it happen. Some additional security measures should be taken if this is a known issue. Otherwise, this location is fine. Very crowded during peak times but that’s every gym in Austin. Nice staff.
My first Golds Fit class at this location was amazing. I can't remember the name of the coach that was there, I believe she had pink hair? I showed up early which was customary and she even showed me a couple movements and helped with some mobility. 10/10 would go again.
The equipment set up is so crammed in there. The free weights area does not have enough open space so people cannot spread out and lift. Also at every other golds gym the staff is so much more welcoming. Definitely recommend going down the road for the better golds.
Gold’ s Gym is very clean and offers a great silver sneakers class with an amazing instructor, Jennifer Aguilar. The gym is kept very clean by Luis. He is always friendly and polite. Thank you Gold’s for all your workers as they always greet you and very friendly.
It's a great gym, it's clean and everything still looks new. Staff has also been friendly and super helpful. My only complaint is that can get pretty crowded all the way up until closing time during the week and so it can be difficult to follow a specific routine.
A variety of equipment options, friendly staff, probably the only gym i’ve gone to where people wipe down their machines and rerack their weights. PT’s go above and beyond. Not the closest gym to me but the service and environment make the extra drive so worth it.
Paying more for less privileges, less equipment, only thing new is that the gym is a new gym. That’s it. Nothing special about it. They don’t allow you to have your bag with you while you workout. Getting Planet Fitness vibes, pretty disappointed at this location
I have exercised at over dozen gyms in TX and CA in the last 20 years. This gym is by far the most unprofessionally operated and unsanitary gym I have ever visited - not to mention the rude staff, especially the GM, Shauna Gibson. Don't waste your time or money.
I have no idea why anyone goes here - worst Gold’s in the area. Barely a step above planet fitness. Poorly laid out, and there’s a giant mostly-unused treadmill section while the machines and racks usually have a wait. You can get a better workout anywhere else.
Just moved to the area and wanted to try the local golds. I was welcomed by Logan. She did an incredible job answering my questions and making sure I had an excellent introduction to the gym. Couldn’t have been happier with the service and employees here.
The gym itself is really nice but they need to address the lack of room during peak hours. Never have I seen a golds gym THIS packed during peak hours. It’s nearly impossible to get a workout in if you work out between 3-8pm. They need to address this.
We love this gym! It's super clean, the staff is friendly and helpful, and we love going to classes here. The coaches and trainers are amazing. Staff also remind folks to wear a mask which makes me feel safe about going to the gym during a pandemic.
The custodian, Luis, is an amazing man. That gym is the cleanest public space I have ever seen all thanks to him. He’s always so nice and has a joke lined up to make my morning Monday through Friday. This dude deserves a raise and some praise!
It was all good until I was approached by some red head worker bee with poor communication skills and customer service. There is a way to communicate and there is a difference between RESPECTFULLY asking someone to do or not to do something
Amazing for body building. Great machines and equipment. But if you want a gym that’s a peaceful place to workout. This ain’t it. Music is too loud, if you are an influencer or coach you can’t film with a tripod…never seen this by the way
Buyer beware! Completely incompetent and terrible service. This place is a revolving door of staff and no one knows what's going on, good luck trying to get anywhere without multiple phone calls and in-person visits. I knew my credit card
They charge you for an additional month when you cancel and make you jump through multiple hoops to cancel. And charge you a few extra dollars on top of your membership fee. On a month to month membership, I still had to visit the gym in
Watch out for all the fees they don't tell you about. You basically sign a contract that says you authorize them to draft funds when they want, without prior notice. I normally at least skim through contracts, but they make theirs so
Love all the new equipment. Some of the sit-down pieces "rock" as you exercise to give you better range of motion. There is a stretching room, a room for yoga type classes, room for cross fit classes with outdoor section, 2 rooms for
Nice gym, but it’s kinda small so you are always waiting for equipment. The men’s sauna seems to always be out of service and 2 out of 5 sinks in the locker room have been not working for awhile. Contemplating moving to another gym.
Sauna has been broken for a month straight. I understand people don’t treat the sauna equipment correctly, but something has to change. Get a piece of equipment for the sauna that doesn’t break every other week. Please.
Its a nice gym, but it's way too crowded at all times. People just stand around hogging the machines, chit chatting, and not working out. Like get out of the way and let the people who are really there to work, workout!
They say you can cancel any time which is a big lie because they will charge you one month even if you cancel your membership before the due date. They want one month notification ahead as if I am renting an apartment.
Shauna helped me out and provided more help than the customer service line did. I would no longer be a member if it wasn’t for her. Clean gym with solid employees. Would recommend to my friends and family.
Love the studio fit classes here! I’ve taken classes with all the coaches and they’re all amazing. Great facility. Always clean. I avoid peak times and don’t ever have any issues using what I need.
Bad experience. I had already canceled my membership and they keep charging me every month . I had to contact my bank and put an stop on my card in order to prevent getting charged …
Just signed up and I'm loving it. Everybody there is motivated to make gains . Can get crowded, so I recommend going hard with whatever equipment you use and getting out. …
Overall decent gym with newer equipment. It’s pretty crowded before 8a so you’ll occasionally have to wait for machines. Bathrooms are really nice. Stretch area is a bit small.
Honestly it’s a great place, everyone is amazing and patient I just really wish it were bigger with it being so packed, but all around it’s truly an amazing gym to go too
