UPDATE Unfortunately my rating has fallen from a solid 5/5 to two . Barely two stars at that.. Our entire family is extremely disappointed with the new management. The portions are much smaller, there's cheap filler in some of the dishes such as bean sprouts, the food was luke warm and there were items missing from our order. -Ginger Beef: Mostly all batter, over chewy beef what little there is, luke warm, very small portion and very little sauce/mostly dry. -Lemon Soo Gi: Mostly batter and very little chicken. Luke warm. -Beef w Black Pepper Sauce: Very little meat & mostly veggies. What beef there was did taste delicious. All 5 pieces of it. Lukewarm. -Chicken Fried Rice: Smaller portion but otherwise just okay. Lukewarm. -Shanghai Noodles w Chicken, Pork & Shrimp: Buffed up w bean sprouts & red pepper. Instead of just noodles & the meat. Besides also being a smaller portion, there's very few noodles compared to the orginal Golden Leaf. Lukewarm. Super disappointing. -Deep Fried Wontons: Smaller portion but taste good. They forgot to put the sauce in the bag. Lukewarm. -Dumplings: Lukewarm but okay. ☆☆☆ One of my family members has a severe allergy to shellfish. I asked when placing our order to please bag the Shanghai noodles separately as I always do. The noodles were packed with everything else. This is very dangerous & or careless. Unacceptable period.☆☆☆ For almost a $100 order, it was a major rip off. Not only smaller portions but increased prices as well. I hate leaving negative reviews and normally won't bother. In this case we've been championing Golden Leaf since 1979. As have many others who order frm here. Golden Leaf was like a best hidden secret for take out Chinese food. Because many won't know about the new management, is why I'm taking the time to write this though I'd rather not. I believe the new plastic containers instead of the old fashioned kind, is why the food is lukewarm at best. I cannot see this place lasting very long. Corners have been drastically cut including quality. Whatever you do, don't expect the orginal Golden Leaf quality, portion size, the way each dish was made. Which reminds me, everything pretty much tastes the same. I hope that the new management takes all the feedback same/similar to mine to heart. We normally spend a decent amount of money annually. We won't be back, or recommending ordering when having large get togethers. My family has been ordering from Golden Leaf since 1979. It's been years since I've eaten from here & holy it's not only exactly what I remember but truly excellent! Fast service/delivery, piping hot food, great portion size, excellent taste and my delivery man was awesome. There's a reason Golden Leaf is still around!

My story starts like this I'm an American born and raised. Visiting Canada for work and nothing more. I get off my flight after finally landing and enjoy the hellish torment of dealing with COVID restrictions and regulations as if the delays weren't enough! I have trouble finding my hotel and when I get there all I'm getting is just the most blatant disrespect you can imagine, further souring my already poor mood. When I finally reach my room and settle in I am ready for my day to be over and head to bed for a long night's slumber. When I awake I'm hit with the strongest of hunger pangs my stomach rumbling as if I haven't consumed food for the last week! I need something and I need it quick I'm using the phone book and keep coming up short. Finally, like a beam of white light, a lady named Ivory answers the phone at a place called Golden Leaf. You could not find a comparable employee such as Ivory at any other establishment the like. The way she handled my order with the most care, concern, and compassion immediately quelled any misgivings this trip had bestowed upon me like a blessing from above. With my apatite put to rest, I was ready to enjoy my trip and push through. Food 7/10 Ivory's customer service 10/10
Having to change my review of Golden Leaf... been ordering from them for several years now and all of sudden something has changed. I don't know if I just got the scraps being fairly late or they've adjusted the quality negatively. Ordered 4 dishes the other night, 2 were "normal" as what we expected, 2 were not good at all. Chicken Chow Mein hardly had any noodles? My daughter said "why did you order bean sprouts?". Almost no chicken. I don't mind some veg but when 80% of the dish is bean sprouts mixed with a little bit of noodles...bit disappointing. Shrimp dish was much the same.... first glance looked like a great dish, but then just sitting on top of a full container of bean sprouts. Neither of these dishes were worth the $ whatsoever. I guess it's time to find another place to order from. *********** Old review below*********** We've ordered 2x now and both times have had great food. Quick delivery and was hot and fresh. Highly recommended and we'll definitely order again!
Beware, the food is NOT FRESH! I've ordered from Golden Leaf for years and food quality has gone downhill since their change in management. I've given them three chances, just to be sure, and now I'm sure I'll never order from them again. Last order cost me over $70 and I got salt and pepper squid that was all batter and air with a tiny pieces of squid inside, ginger beef with fresh and non-fresh pieces mixed in and a tiny bit of sauce at the bottom, stale tasting beef in the black bean sauce and on and on ... and they had the audacity to automatically charge a tip on the online order. What they think they're doing extra to earn a tip is beyond me. I'm convinced they will be out of business again in a few months. Do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs, the food is that bad!

THE END OF AN ERA...we've been ordering from Golden Leaf for 20 years. Unfortunately, our first order under the new management will be our last. Our favourite dishes from the original Golden Leaf were the saucy and delicious ginger beef and the ginger chicken with its balance of breading and juicy chunks of chicken. The new ginger beef had no sauce and the new ginger chicken was hard and stringy. Spring rolls were a doughy, oily mess - I actually spit it out. Shrimp chop suey was tasteless. Pork chow mein was dry and tasteless. Pork dumplings were a soggy and doughy with very little pork filling. The one highlight was the Shanghai Noodles which were more flavourful than the original Golden Leaf version.

Easy & reliable. Quick turn around so you can order, and go pick up quickly. We usually get the chicken fried rice (portion is a bit too big I think, but it's good), ginger beef (not too chewy), chicken balls (really yummy), Spring rolls (a little too oily but good), battered shrimp (also really good), gai ding (not my favourite, I find it too oily) and won ton soup (not too salty). The only thing I didn't like from there is the salt and pepper squid. The food is very consistent, so if you like something... you'll get the same experience every time. Interior feels a little run down, but there's no dine-in, so it doesnt' really matter. Telephone/counter staff are always efficient and clear with a good telephone manner.
Wish I would have read the reviews and known they switched owners!! Went to grab take out to realize new owners, who knows maybe they'd be amazing. Every dish was bland, house fried rice was more white rice mushrooms and onion. Dumping where these huge soggy things. The fries ribs are bland and differently creates but not for the better. Veggies and beef with black bean sauce they charged extra for the bb sauce, bland and the veggies not cooked. Salt and pepper shrimp over battered but did have flavor. I hope the new owners understand standard of quality and taste the community is custom to and will be able to improve!

Really great food here. My favorite, #32a. Breaded Pork (Boneless), something that you can't get anywhere else. It's like popcorn chicken, except really tasty. Very rarely will we get something that's not great. Usually an off day. Once we had the Almond Soo Gai, and the sauce was way off (no flavor, and just basically jelly). A different time we had Beef & Mixed Vegetables, and it too had a problem with the sauce....it tasted burnt. Every other time these same dishes and all the others have been awesome. We don't live in the neighborhood anymore, but we try and still order from here every few months.
Used to be good but has gone to the dogs. Ordered last weekend - employee had to phone back twice because she screwed up the credit card number. Order shows up and it's wrong. We politely call and she tells us "nope, that's what you ordered". Well, I can assure you the words "Ginger CHICKEN" have never crossed my lips! No discussion though - we were just wrong. Would have been ok if noodles weren't gluey, fried rice wasn't flavourless and the wontons not overcooked....Ordered from them well over 30 times in the last 8 yrs...but no more. Last three orders have been this way.
I've had the this before the new owners and wasn't a fan. I went back when I saw they had changed ownership and was pleasantly surprised with the food. I had the chicken chow mein, S&S chicken balls, and the chicken fried rice. All of them tasted great. I thought the rice might be a bit flavorless since it was a lighter color but it was quite good

Great food! I received a pamphlet in my mailbox for this place saying it was under new management. Thought I would give it a try. I’ve now ordered from them twice, and the food is amazing! It’s all standard fare for a Chinese Food restaurant, but it’s very well prepared by people who obviously care about the customer’s experience. This is my new favourite place for take out.

After a long return to the SW and very happy to see that the Golden Leaf is even better than before. From the phone call to place the order, to pick up, to eating it all was an amazing experience. The chicken balls full of meat and lightly battered, the ginger chicken was perfectly cooked, the veggies, the noodles, the spring rolls, ect. To the owners and cooks and front staff please don't change a thing, keep up the good work! We will return!

Golden leaf must have sold… been going here for 30 years and went today and absolutely everything has changed for the worse. Was super excited to have some dishes that golden leaf was known for and it’s nothing like before. Spring rolls are now generic store bought, chicken chow main covered in soya sauce and chicken fried rice used to have peas in and not loaded with soya sauce as well. I will not be going back here, sad because it’s been a known name in our fmaily since I was a kid. Unbelievably disappointed
We have been ordering from here for 15 years, owners changed but we thought we would try, extremely disappointed, it’s not just different, it’s bad, like real bad, really poor quality, mostly fillers, all the dishes were lacking quality and spring rolls weren’t even cooked all the way through. Super disappointing, would not recommend trying, would send it all back if I could. Just terrible.

Quite literally the best ginger beef ever! My mother and sister are huge fans! The Shanghai noodles could use some work and I wish there were more vegetarian dishes available, or even substitutes for the meat like tofu. The guy at the front is always so grumpy, but he smiles sometimes so its okay. But if you want tasty ginger beef leftovers when they are straight out of the fridge at 8am in the morning. This place is where it is at.
I read the reviews before ordering, I should have listened to the ones that said the food was BLAND We ordered $120 worth of food, most went in the garbage :-( It was so bland, almost seemed water down, especially the black bean sauce items. Every gave a weird after taste in your mouth as well?? Chicken fried rice was white (where the flavor?) I’m sorry to say but legit, worst Chinese food I have ever had
The staff is very pleasant and helpful. I can call in an order for pickup and it is always ready when I get there to pick it up. I use delivery too and the delivery is always fast. Their Ginger Beef is to die for and I locve their special fried rice. They are also active in helping with fundraising efforts in the community.
They have really good food but it is a little Chinnsy on the chow mein products. It is all noodles. So if you want to pay 12 dollars for noodles???

We've lived in the area for 7 years and had never ordered from this restaurant until a few evenings ago. It was fantastic. The staff were friendly, the storefront was clean and the food was delicious. We will definitely be ordering from golden leaf again.
Very friendly service on the phone (they gave us some great suggestions) and were flexible with our customization requests! We greatly enjoyed the dumplings and spring rolls.

Ordered the Won Ton Soup, it was tasty no complaints. Also got the Cantonese Chow Mein, it was okay but the chicken had a very weird consistency and I found a hair in it... overall don’t recommend this place.
The food was very good. I knock off a star for giving me garlic rib sauce for my chicken balls. Should have been a sweet and sour red sauce. Otherwise portions were very good. Service was helpful.
Great food! Staff were pleasant and friendly, and food was ready super quick. Food was steaming hot even after I got all the way home with it. The best ginger beef I've ever had!
I used to live nearby and order a ton, but it seems to have changed over the years. Small portion sizes, very bland food. Tastes like grocery store Chinese food. It’s a shame.
Food was a bit bland, and way too salty. First time trying, wouldn’t re-order.
