By the time my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's it was already pretty clear that she could no longer take care of herself and would need to move into a retirement community. However, with me being the only family she has, us living 3 hours apart, and my career being extremely demanding at the time, the stress of trying to coordinate downsizing, moving and selling her house all on my own, and in the middle of a pandemic, was more than I wanted to take on. Gordon's Downsizing was suggested to me as a one-stop shop that could take care of all of it. I spoke with Barry Gordon, and he clearly explained the process to me and answered all of my questions, to the point that I was satisfied they would be the right service to engage. Now that everything is done, I can confidently say it was the right decision. From the expert care with packing all of my mother's very valuable antiques and furniture, setting up her new apartment beautifully to make it look like home as soon as she walked in the door, auctioning off the remaining items in the home and to finally selling the house, it all went seamlessly, only requiring very manageable involvement from me. Even when my mother required relocating yet again very soon after the first move, due to needing greater care than originally anticipated, and moving her to an entirely different city to be closer to me, it was a painless experience. Lastly, I really appreciate the patience shown when it ended up taking much longer than I anticipated to be able to give the final go ahead to sell the house. And despite the downturn in the market by that time, they were still able to secure a selling price I was satisfied with. In conclusion, I would recommend Gordon's Downsizing without hesitation!
After our father passed away, mom was left in a 6,000 sq. ft house on her own packed to the rafters on 3 levels. Gordon's helped us help our mother come to terms with downsizing by calming her anxieties over moving and having to let go of her home and many of her possessions. This is something that would not have been possible without their calming advice and plan. Gordon's helped mom find a new home, worked with her on deciding what to take, sorted, packed, moved and unpacked her in her new home and got her completely settled. Then they expertly tackled the enormous job of emptying the house with 2 online auctions, preparing the home for sale and then selling it in just 2 weeks for $105,000 over the asking price. Fast forward 4 years, mom passed away in 2020 and Gordon's was our first call to arrange real estate and personal property appraisals for the probate application, allowing us to start the estate settlement process quickly. Once family had taken the things bequeathed to them and other personal items from the house, we turned the keys over to Gordon's. The Gordon's team took over and sold the remaining items in the house in an online auction, emptied, cleaned and prepared the home for sale and sold it in 7 days for $52,000 above the listing price. Words to describe the Gordon's team would include professional, compassionate, patient, hard working, honest and trustworthy. When it is my turn to downsize and sell my home, I will be calling Gordon's again.
It's hard to summarize how thankful I am for the assistance and leadership Gordon's provided me and my siblings after the quick passing of my Dad. We were tasked with a HUGE job. The property housed 40 years worth of stuff, passed down by generations before. As an exhausted caregiver who was deeply grieving, I decided life was too short and fragile to take this on without expert help. We had another auction company come take a look and told us we had to ship what we wanted to sell to them, and left us feeling defeated and unsupported. We had over 300 outboards, 40+ vehicles, and so much more. The first meeting with Barry was the day I breathed a sign of relief. He never faltered at the enormous task this estate would be. He welcomed the challenge. Cathy and her crew got to work fast and surprised us with how fast they cleaned out stuff, while sorting and organizing sellable items for auction. We did so well at the auctions and felt peace knowing items were going to others for use and not the landfill. Cathy always kept me informed and was a gem to deal with. Manson and Don strategically marketed the home and sold it within 7 days, over asking, and multiple offers. They were a pleasure to work with. Gordon's knows exactly what they are doing. They are the whole package. I strongly suggest people look into Gordon's. They give you what is truly valuable; Your Time. They truly do help you move on!
My husband Gerald Johnsrude and I downsized from a 4 bedroom , 4 bathroom home in Kingston which also had a finished basement to a downtown apartment with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Right from the first visit from Barry Gordon to when the last packer and mover left our apartment, we were treated like very special guests . Amazing service Our real estate agent ,Sherry Mayhew , was professional , understanding and very kind and kept us in the loop with daily updates . We also had exceptional care from Cathy Gordon who organized the actual move. The day of the move , 7 packers arrived on time at 9 am and were finished early afternoon .They worked so well as a team and we were impressed that they never stopped till they had a fast lunch at noon ....not even a coffee break ! The movers arrived at 1130 and shrink wrapped every bit of furniture before loading on the truck so no damage. Gordons had booked the elevator at our apartment for 830 the following morning and by the time Jerry and I arrived , they had already unloaded several boxes . Th unpacking was all done by 1 pm ...and everything put away .....even beds made ! The movers were very courteous to the tenants on our floor and when an elevator was required even though one was booked , the movers took the tenants down so there was no waiting . We highly recommend Gordons Downsizing and Real Estate service .

She moved to a lovely retirement community, but packing up a lifetime of memories was overwhelming. Having used Gordon's to clear out my late SIL house, we knew precisely who to call! Gordon's handled everything - they helped her pick out the pieces she needed in her new place by doing a floor plan, they packed up the house and moved her, then unpacked when she got there. They even hung pics and curtains for her. Everyone - Barry, Cathy, Sue and the packing team and moving crew were so wonderful and responsive to her needs. They arranged the auction and took care of all disposals. Then Sherry came in and sold the house for over asking! It has truly been a life changing experience for mom, and she is so happy she trusted Gordon's to help her through it. One year ago today, my mother moved into a retirement home. She joined my father there, who had been moved three months previously into full-assisted care in the same facility. My mother’s decision to drastically downsize, sell the family home, and make this move meant that she and the family were faced with the enormous task of sorting and purging, packing, and readying the home for selling. It was overwhelming, and we wisely realized that professional help was needed to get everything done with the least amount of stress for everyone involved. So we interviewed three companies who specialize in facilitating seniors’ moves and decided to engage the services of Gordon’s Downsizing and Estate Services. We were extremely happy with our decision. Gordon’s took care of everything that had to be done at the house, the move to the new home was smooth and stress-free, and the house was sold quickly for a good price. The professionalism, care, work ethic, depth of knowledge, and positive attitude shown by all the nice people at Gordon’s was excellent.
When my father suddenly passed away I initially tried to handle everything myself, which as the only child not to mention living hours away, was overwhelming to say the least. On top of simply trying to come to grips with the emotions of the loss, there are all the other things that have to get done -- the funeral, probate, estate filings, property bills, sorting house contents, ... the list goes on. Being able to rely on the team from Gordon's for their expert advice during such a time was a great relief. Not only did they handle the contents of the house -- putting aside items based on a rough explanation of what I wanted to keep, sorting saleable items into lots for auction based on efficiency, donating what could be donated, and disposing of the rest -- they managed the property while the probate process completed and then managed the sale. Everything went smoothly and it allowed me the time to be with my family instead of driving back and forth. Thank you Gordon's for everything.
We contacted Gordon’s after finding a condo for my Grandma that they had listed. They sent all requested information quickly and, after connecting us with a buyer’s agent, we made an offer within 24 hours. Moving is stressful and overwhelming at the best of times, but made even more so in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Manson, Cathy and their team were professional, helpful, patient and understanding as they worked with us to determine a timeline for the move. Manson also arranged and organized all aspects of the sale of Grandma’s waterfront home. Things couldn’t have been easier. Grandma is now comfortably moved into her new condo and her home had an accepted offer within two weeks and closed shortly after that. My family and I would recommend Gordon’s for all your moving and downsizing needs.
After a loss in the family, I had to sell a family member's property and house, which were in a remote location and several hours from where I lived. Enter Gordon's. They could not have been better to deal with and things could not have been easier! I have zero negative things to say about them. They took care of everything, including the cleaning and prepping of the house, the sale of the contents and all the appointments. Communication through phone, text and email was timely and often. Document signing and paperwork were all handled through email. Each member of the team in this process were friendly, helpful and professional. Their advice was invaluable throughout the process. The services provided by Gordon's were indispensable when my mom was transitioning from her home to a retirement facility last year. What a difference these folks made to my move! Leaving a huge house with 20 years of accumulated stuff was exhausting as well as emotionally difficult. Just the thought of it was awful. The sale of my house went very smoothly, with excellent advice being offered by Don as to what price should be asked, and his reasoning for it. It was a pleasure being able to participate in the write-up for the listing and the very detailed pamphlet that was produced for prospective buyers. Don was very easy to communicate with at all times, which was greatly appreciated and the whole transaction was handled very professionally. The house was marketed at a very just price, and the price was met. It was a painless process and I would highly recommend Gordon's to anyone for selling their home.
Fantastic! It is an awful experience to be forced to move especially through no fault of your own. Gordon'd babied us through. No judgements were passed, no impatience shown with seniors having to deal with this event. Everything was clarified. Everyone was respectful. We used Gordon's for our Mom twice. The first move was from her house to a retirement home. She was anxious and there was a HUGE amount of possessions to be gone through. Gordon's management and staff were supportive of her and offered us a thorough in explanation of the process. Then the staff were very efficient in managing the sale and the move. All went better than we expected. The second move was to a long term care facility. It wad important to us to have this move be as smooth as the first. It was! My mother has Parkinson's and is terribly frail. Gordon's managed the entire pack and move process from a retirement home to a nursing home perfectly. The day after the move-in, everything looked so perfect that you'd swear she had lived in the new place for years. They were courteous and careful, and kept me posted throughout the entire process, from planning through to execution, which was critical because I live outside the country. OMG. Gordons packed me up today - two days after my Mom passed away - and a day before I'm driving west with my little dog to relocate to Campbell River BC. Julie and her team breezed through my 700 sq.ft. place with ease, professionalism and care. We have moved 5 or 6 times in our lives. Always supervised by my husband's employer. This was a move I would have to handle by myself, due to my husband's ill health. We couldn’t have moved without the help of Gordon’s. With no family left in Edmonton, it was time to move closer to our daughter and her family in Toronto. She put us in touch with Gordon’s. We began the moving process and, after 42 years in our home, left Edmonton with our two cats and were on our way in five weeks to Toronto. Without the help of Gordon’s, we couldn’t possibly have handled a cross country move in only five weeks.
There are so many good things to say about this company. I had an impossibly huge task ahead of me and they took on the many tasks in a very organized fashiion. Kudos to Gordon's and their partners in Sudbury for all the help provided in the downsizing of our parent's home. Sometimes very nice people, other quite rude. Sometimes decent presentation and pics other time the reality totally different from the pics. I would most definitely use Gordon’s again. It was an extremely smooth process with not a single issue. They looked after everything and answered every concern. I live four hours away which made it difficult to handle all aspects of this estate but I felt totally comfortable with the Gordon team of professionals. Gordon’s did an amazing job.
