"This is 2nd visit for afternoon tea for us"
I have been volunteering at the farm weekly for a few months and I am thoroughly enjoying it. I have Aspergers a form of Autism and have struggled with my mental health these past few years, and volunteering here has really helped. It has been really good for my mental health and also I am getting exercise, enjoying interacting with the animals and also chatting with the other volunteers and staff as we work. The staff are lovely and very supportive and friendly. The animals are well cared for and look happy to me, having also been brought up on a homestead farm. Any issues with the animals are dealt with as soon as possible, including to call the vet, when needed. The staff are very caring to the animals, which is lovely to see. The enclosures are cleaned each day and we also do a range of other tasks to ensure the farm is safe and clean for animals, staff and visitors. The farm does not have many funds, since losing the funding from the Council a few years ago, but they still manage to have a welcoming and lovely environment for the animals and visitors. I love seeing the smiles of the faces on the little children who come with their parents and caregivers to see and feed the animals. It is very uplifting. There are also quite a few people who come to visit who have different kinds of disabilities and it is also a really great to see their enjoyment also. I don't agree with the perspectives of the other person who has given a negative review after volunteering at the farm. It is not my experience at all and I think the staff room is perfectly suitable and fine. It is a working farm, so I am not sure what this reviewer expects from this context? I have worked in multiple places in the past and I have found the farm a great place to volunteer in. Thanks so much to everyone there. I am looking forward to continuing to volunteer at the farm going forward.
As a person who has worked here for work experience for college this place is terrible at respecting younger workers who aren’t even getting paid but yet still trying their best. I have been accused of being rude and not doing my work when I know and other people around me have agreed that I work really hard and I’m not rude just quiet. Some of the main workers there are completely unprofessional and very hypocritical when working with others their age. Overall the farms animals have a poor and unhealthy environment to sleep in and doesn’t have any enrichment (toys or objects that can keep them entertained without workers or customers having to do it) and the areas of some of the animals are far too small. The staff room is full off dirty old shoes and clothes that haven’t been worn in ages and a sofa that sits 3 people max, they have a table with some chairs but it stinks inside and has no source of heating and isn’t very hygienic when eating in there since we can not eat in the cafe. When I offered to mop in there they said there was no point as it will just get dirty again. I also know a few people who have worked here and have left or complained due to terrible experience and awful management. If you ever consider working here be prepared as they treat workers younger than them with disrespect and unpleasant comments.
What a little gem, the Horse Gill City Farm is more than we expected and apart from the animals all staff we me were so friendly, we actually visited the cage for afternoon tea which for the cost was good value a no frills cafe but serving honest food. After eating we visited the different animals and realised it is a great place to take little ones as there is plenty to see and the areas are so planned that almost all animals are there close to feed goats especially are so friendly little ones would get really involved. Food is sold for 50p a bag which basically is pelleted food and notices are all around requesting you not to feed with your own food which common sense should tell they should stick to there die. Varieties of small animals are housed inside which again little ones can get closer to.. There are many volunteers working there and especially people with learning difficulties who obviously are getting experience. Gorse Hill Farm is a charitable establishment and I find it hard to take in some of the negative views that have been posted here and especially other more well site, the place is giving sanctuary and has a breeding programme for some of the animals that are rare, so I can only say go along and enjoy the value the City Farm is donating to the community. Well recommended!!!!
Lovely afternoon tea booked on Groupon. Loads for your money and it includes entrance to the little farm. Food was fresh, filling and tasty. We don't drink actual tea so were supplied with loads of decaf coffee and hot chocolate. The farm is very basic - ideal for city kids who don't get chance to experience farm animals ordinarily. Of course the chickens had to be confined due to Avian Flu unfortunately but everything else was happily free ranging in their fields and paddocks. The donkeys are very friendly and one was hilarious. Responds to the name Eeyore though I have no idea if that's his actual name - it's just what we called him to watch him run over to us! It also has THE friendliest young bull you will ever meet. Very very happy to have cuddles and face scratches like a horse! All in all, it's not big or exotic but it's very nice for a pleasant afternoon out.
This is 2nd visit for afternoon tea for us. 1st time was the weekend of lockdown starting on March 20th 2020 so was very quiet but this time it was Mother's Day....There was no heating on so we were cold. We were told at the beginning we just had table for an hour as it was very busy. that was fine because it was too cold to hang around and was glad they still accepted the Groupon as they could have excluded Mother's day but hadn't. The food was nice enough and a good selection. 3 different sandwich fillings, about 6 different bite sized cakes and 2 scones (unfortunately for me were fruited which I don't like but Hubby does so he had both scones and I ate all the cakes!). There was a big pot of tea which was enough for 2 cups each. I would go again but try to avoid a busy afternoon tea day. Car parking was a little tricky too as only room for about 12 cars
Nice little Farm. It is small but they have quite a few animals living there. When you enter the gate is DIY and there is a donation box you can donate whatever you feel like but it also suggest the amount for adults and kids. However we tend to give more as this place is run privately and they do need our support. You can also buy the food to feed those sheeps & lambs, it is also self help. They have a cafe there but I didn’t have a chance to try. We noticed in one of the room there are some photos of animals which people currently supporting, is like adopting I guess. And we are considering to join the family annual pass so we can bring the little one there more often. When my friends come to visit me from other part of England or even other part of the world, this is a must place to bring them here.
On arrival the car park was full and had to drop off my wife and two granddaughters ( 4years and 2 years) then drive back down and park on the road. When we were inside the farm there was one other family visiting and at least 20 volunteers painting and doing other job's this meant the vast majority of cars in the car park were owned by volunteers blocking the car park to genuine paying visitor's which was very awkward and on leaving we all had to walk down the uneven road to our car. Why couldn't the volunteers be made to park on the road? Also with the volunteers painting some of the areas where out of bounds and prevented access to some animals which there was no prior notice of. Finally some of the staff made us feel that we shouldn't have been there and where doing us a favor.
The farm was ok but had an obvious lack of animals. We saw mainly goats/sheep a couple of pigs and a few donkeys. The set up is dated. There was a wishing well which consisted of a black bucket in a hole. And a random dirty fish tank! The cafe was a whole other story! Tables and floors were dirty. Food (toasties ) came and were burnt. Cheesy fries had a strange small hair and the small breakfast had raw mushrooms, overcooked hash browns and was swimming in tomato’s with the amount given. The staff did not know what I meant when I asked for cutlery to be brought to the table. Overall we won’t be going back. Better off eating at home! And you’ll see more animals watching David Attenborough!
I honestly don't know how to feel about this place. While I should point out, the day I visited it was absolutely chucking it down, so that somewhat soured my experience but on top of that there was practicaly nothing there. No cows or pigs or horses other than Shetland Ponnies. I was also a bit disappointed, the cafe didn't have everything on the menu. The only real positives were my lunch was alright and priced at £3 for children and £4.50 is amongst the cheaper farms I have been to. In short, I wasn't particularly impressed and I'm certainly not aching to go back but I don't dissuade others from doing so.
I have recently been to this farm and was rather disappointed, there wasn't many animals there and what there was looked quite fed up with life. The goats were great though. You couldn't get near the donkeys to interact with, and the rabbits and guinea pigs looked suicidal, two of the rabbits were isolated, and there were only three guinea pigs, but there was no enrichment for them just two upside down dog beds for them to hide under. Surely their lives could be made better by a little thought. All in all I came away feeling rather sad so deffinately wont be going back there again unless things improve.
Its a lovely little farm to visit with family, if you take a pushchair like I did your able to get around it quite easy the paths are easy to push on and big enough for a wheelchair as well. The cafe is nice nd decent price for things too. There is also a park within the farm to have a sit down with benches so we had our lunch there whilst the kiddies played before having something to eat as well. You can also purchase feed when getting paying to get in which was a pound I believe to feed to the animals as you go around all in all its a nice experience to have with the kids for cheap too
I have just taken my Grandaughter to see the Dinisaurs at the farm. It is absolutely disgusting. I paid £9 entrace fee waited over an hour a saw no Dinosaurs. Other people were complaining about this. It is very disapointing for the little children who go there all excited. I went up to the place where the so called Dinosaurs were all they are is rubber stretched around wire. The posters make them look better than they. I have never been so disapointed and wasted money. If your thinking of going don't bother. Save your money.. Never will i go there again. 29/5/2023.
Nice little farm, well taken, with several types of sheep's. The only negative feedback goes to the cafe. The girls who worked that day there weren't very welcome. My friend and I bought an afternoon tea, and we received a still frozen scone. And was expecting a fresh one with fresh clotted cream...since we were in the farm. On top of this....the cafe was very dirty. Something unbelievable. So that, that we asked the spray and a blu paper in order to clean our table. Toilet is better to not mention! I would suggest training that girls.
Took my daughter, who's now 25, in our bubble to go somewhere we hadn't been for ages. Very well organised during Covid 19, one-way system, lots of hand sanitizer posts and online booking (£3.50 adults). Obviously, the main attraction are the animals, who look very well looked after. We fell in love with the kids (baby goats) and the piglets. They have their own parking (go up the path) and good disabled access. The city council are withdrawing their funding so they are relying on donations, it would be sad if we lost this place.
A lovely place to visit with your child, super cute animals and baby animals, cafe, playground, handwashing facilities throughout. Lovely friendly staff. Be sure to buy a pot or two of animal feed for a £1 at reception, your child (and you!) will be delighted to feed the goats and sheep and their babies. A notice in the yard says that Leicester City Council will be withdrawing funding from the farm, I thought this was really sad, please support this place by visiting and having a snack and a drink there.
I visited the farm around the time of Halloween and it was wonderful to see the farm themed with Halloween. Definitely, a place to take your kids too as they will enjoy feeding the animals at the farm. It's quite a small farm, so might not take more than 1-2 hrs to cover the whole farm along with feeding the animals. I couldn't try the cafe. However, the staff was very friendly. Learned some new facts about animals displayed throughout the farm. Would definitely recommend to visit especially with kids.
This is a nice little local farm where you can see a variety of animals! My son really enjoyed his visit here specially with feeding the goats. The only problem we had was the difficulty in parking, I had to park a street away as I wasn't sure how to get to farm's car park. This didn't cause much of an issue as it was only a few minutes walk! Overall an enjoyable experience and we will definitely come back!

Sadly I am confused by the good reviews.. there are hardly any animals.. it’s so strange. There is a pond with plastic ducks on… a dog house with a picture of a dog on.. horse paddocks with no horses in.. its also so small that we had finished after 20mins.. I’m also confused about the food reviews.. its run by kids who never smile and seem not to care. The place needs a lot of work, it’s very shabby and rundown. I’m so sorry but was very disappointed.
It's a nice little farm, It is small and you get round quickly, but the animals are friendly to feed and there is a nice little play area in the middle of the farm as well for the kids. We didn't get to see any rabbits or other small animals this time and none of the sinks were working outside to wash our hands after touching the animals so we had to go through the food area to the toilets to do this.l so would advise taking hand gel.
Ok for a cheap day out with baby as under twos have free entry. They have a play park for kids, plenty of outdoor seeting for family picnics and a nice little cafe that serves food hot/cold food and drinks and icecream. Mainly just goats and sheep but also have a few of each of the following: chickens, cockerels, ducks, rabbits, Guinea pigs, donkeys and pigs. My 2 year old boy loves it we have been 4 times now
A great farm with lots of animals to see and feed , we came to see our youngest a adopted ducks . Staff were welcoming and so good with the kids . Good wheelchair access just take care at the entrance as it’s quite a steep hill . We arrived later in the day so the food options were quite limited , the food we ordered was nice , well presented and tasted great . Kids are already pestering to visit again !
I know it is charity funded and I am sorry but there were hardly any animals available to see . No cows . Pigs had piglets so couldn't see them. There were only a few goats and sheep and no petting available with smaller animals . It was £13 for 2 adults and a 2 year old . The play area is very old and basic. Our grandson still enjoyed it but there are other farms charging the same that are a lot better.
Nice little farm. Well taken with different species of sheep. The cafe was very dirty, the toilet better to don't mention it. I had to ask the spray and blu roll to clean my table and chairs. To be a little cafe, the dirtiness was something out of the world. The girls who worked there were not very welcoming. I would suggest training those girls before placing them behind a bar.
Fantastic charity run farm in Leicester, not far from the city centre and easy to reach by bus or car. Great for children and adults alike, offering the opportunity to feed the goats, sheep and ducks. As well as being fun for all the family, the farm relies completely on donations so you know that the entrance fee is to support the upkeep and housing of the farm animals.
We drove an hour to visit this farm and left after 20 minutes as we had walked around it all (stopping to feed the goats, sheep and pigs as well) . It is run down, the facilities are poor and there isnt alot of different animals or even facts about the animals to read. we wont be coming again. such a waste of a drive to not even get a few hours out with our kids.
Give a 3 as we did have a lovely time with kids however Due to being pregnant there was no clear indication that pregnant woman shouldn't feed animals and reasons why at the enterence there need to be clear and bold posters or signs as wasn't properly stated It was my sister who pointed out once we had been that pregnant woman shouldn't go
Now I know that the farm is no longer council funded and had to charge entrance to keep farm open but the admissions charges are so over priced for what there was to actual see and do cost £25 for admission and food for sheep ( only animals we was allowed to feed) we spent approximately 30 mins there before the children was board and we left .
What a cracking place for all the family. Came here Tuesday 19th April and loved my time there. The staff are super friendly and helpful and the animals are gorgeous. Only negative is the car park is tiny and if you're lucky you'll need to find a parking spot on the main road in the lay-by. But apart from that, great place.
Came with me niece and nephew, they really loved it! The animals are very friendly, there's plenty to do with small children, it's a comfortable relaxed day out, you can bring a picnic and it's reasonably priced. I shall bring them back if only to apologise to the goat my baby niece bopped on the nose! (He started it!)
Had a lovely afternoon tea the staff were amazing and couldn't do enough for us. So thanks for an enjoyable afternoon. Loved walking round the farm fortunately the weather fantastic. Could do with a bit of a spruce up but as funding has been cut I can see the struggle. It would be a shame to lose this little gem.
Dirty cakes left out on the side no covering no kids drinks apart from fizzy pop coffee hardly any milk taste disgusting only animals were goats dirty everywhere u walk and well over charged!! Am really surprised its still open won't be going again

My grand daughter and I had a lovely time here. There are sheep, pigs, goats, ponies, donkeys and llamas. There is also a pets corner. There was a room open for Lego play and designing a t-Shirt. There is also a cafeteria. There is also a play area with swings etc and picnic tables.
It was a new experience which I visited a farm in a city it is really suitable for children to feed animalls and see several domestic animals and nature. There is a small playground for them too. I remember the ticket for an adult was 4.5 pounds, and animals feed was 1 pound.
All the Animals!!! Such a great place and the animals are so well treated. Make sure you buy lots of food from reception, and I mean lots. Also try and spot Chester the Cat a new addition. He was very shy but if you zoom in on one of my photos he is in his bed all warm and cosy.
Lovely little city farm, but desperately in need of funding. The site looks and feels tired. However the animals appeared happy and healthy. It isn't an attraction for the entire day; we managed to stretch this to 2 hours. Parking is limited and down a narrow access road.
Small but pleasent farm, the animals are very friendly and you have the opportunity to buy bags of food to feed them. There is a little cafe, the farm shop only has a small selection of children's toys, theres nothing much else for sale. Overall a pleasent experience.
I was very disappointed. I went there this morning with my three children. There are fewer animals. We spent there less than one hour; thus, it is not worth for the money. Moreover, there is a lot of poster saying to wash hands. However, none tap worked! Disappointed!!
Went with friends for a lovely afternoon tea. Food was amazing and great value. We then looked at all the different animals but unfortunately never got to see all as weather conditions weren't good. Definitely be back . Staff were friendly and helpful well done
Personally had a really fun time. The volunteers are lovely and know all the animals. The cafe has really nice food too. As it's non profit it's worth every penny, and although it's not the largest farm you could go to, it's worth seeing and taking your time!
For a first time visiting a farm with my young daughter with no expectations, a nice peaceful place to visit to see your common farmyard animals. Although few and far between the setting was calm and organised and a full visit will take no more than an hour.
Nice place, had to park in long grass though. A lot of animals too, especially sheep! Decent park and when we went there was a dinosaur event and lots of rides because of it, like a trampoline and some kids rides. Overall nice place and would recommend!
Great day out for the kids. Hot food available, though we brought a picnic. Play area for the little ones. Ended up purchasing an annual family membership at just £45, (2 adults + 3 children) so we can visit as often as we like . Well worth a visit
Had a nice few hours at Gorse Hill City Farm with our 2 grandkids. We had booked a cream tea and it was very enjoyable and fresh. The girls fed the animals and had freedom in a safe environment. All the staff were helpful. Good value. All round.
Very small farm but has everything you need to keep small children entertained for an afternoon. My 2 year old loves it. Excellent value for money. Worth getting two bags of food as the sheep will guilt you into feeding them everything …
Nice and inexpensive way to entertain children by having them to meet and feed live animals. The farm has a big playground area with a large picknick area, spacious children's cafe with good food and prices. The place is smoke-free througout.
I bought an entry to the farm voucher from WOWcher and after 1 hour drive to get there and back I can certainly say that it wasn't worthy at all. The farm is extremely small, there's hardly anything to see. I have been to farms with free
Great visit which exceeded all expectation! Excellent all round - entry price unbelievably low + annual passes offering even better value; friendly and helpful young staff who treated my mum(who has Alzheimers) like royalty and excellent
If I could give less than 1 star I would Went with the children 3 5 7 9 years and not one of them liked it we saw goats and a pig it is not worth the money old run down can’t be called a farm. The play area was like the “farm” in need of
Great run farm for kids in a nice local area with polite staff spoke to some staff there, told me there struggling to make ends meat if anyone see this review please come and visit here and donate if you can would really help thank you .
Came here with my daughter and Grandchildren. We had an enjoyable time. I hope that this farm can remain open as it's a great place for children.

We loved this place! The kids enjoyed feeding the goats and sheep and the walk round the paddocks wasn't too long for them. The play park was fun and there were plenty of places to wash your hands. We would definitely recommend.

Lovely little farm with quite a few different farm animals for the little one to see and some you can feed. Easy to push a pushchair around and there's a good little cafe and play area too.
Great little farm, perfect for smaller children. The staff are really lovely and friendly. There's a nice little cafe where you can buy adult meals, snacks, kids food, hot and cold drinks.
It's a nice day out for the family, especially for the younger kids. They'll enjoy feeding the animals. The food there is delicious and they have a good selection of mains and desserts.
It was very nice to find a farm inside Leicester without need to take long distance. Me and my family enjoyed the time there.

Fab little city farm! Buy a bag of animal feed and become best mates with the goats and sheep. Try your hand at milking a cow. Small play area and lovely cafe-vegan menu too!
Such a great farm and close to the city centre. Sometimes they have events on. Small playground great for all sizes and you can feed the animals with the feed they sell.
Good value for money, local, my daughter loved it, especially the bunnies.

Lovely little farm, took my grandson, he's 2 and a half, he loved feeding the sheep and the goat's. He had a great time …
This farm is extremely nice, I love so much, these animals are quite adorable. Also the ticket is very cheap!!! Very worthy!!!
It's very run down and not many animals but the ones that are there look well cared for. It was a nice way to spend an hour.
Food and service were brilliant! Worth the money for what we paid! Would recommend if you want a little treat during the day
We love this farm, it has a good variety of animals to see, great food, friendly staff and is great value for money.
Not a bad little farm, shame all the birds were sick! Beware of being totally boxed in the car park!
Lovely farm, animals are the cutest, done a donation to save them, cities need to have farms …
Lovely place to visit to see and feed the animals..but cafe a bit pricy..and terrible coffee...
Had a lovely afternoon tea. Very helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Catered for a vegan.
Hardley any animals a lot of pens empty and overgrown coffee in cafe not so good either
Lovely little farm, great for a day out, great for little ones. Nice cafe …
