"I absolutely love this place"
"This park is great for just about anyone : walkers, runners, skaters, basketball players, cyclists, families and pets! I also come here to have picnic or do yoga"
"The start of the Southern Walnut Creek Trail! This trail is an amazing mostly-paved trail that leads for several miles across East Austin all the way to Decker Lake"
"Govalle is the southern terminus of the South Walnut Creek Trail"
"My commute to work is about 18 miles each way and a portion of the trips are on the Southern Walnut trail"
I absolutely love this place. Been coming for years even before the update. The pool upgrades have been great. Disappointing how the female lifeguards have little patience and were constantly making rude faces as I was trying to clean up my kids. The male lifeguard was very polite and said the pool closes at 7 but there's no rush. You can still use the showers and bathrooms to clean up. But as soon as we were in the bathroom we kept getting rude faces from the female staff. Even spraying cleaning chemicals around us. I was very vocal with my children to hurry because they wanted to leave and all I got was eye rolls from the lifeguard till another one came to also hurry us out. I told her we were trying to go as fast as we could cause some of my children were special needs but was met with another eye roll instead of some sort of understanding or compassion. Next time I won't be so nice to hurry my children with such little empathy.
This park is great for just about anyone : walkers, runners, skaters, basketball players, cyclists, families and pets! I also come here to have picnic or do yoga. My puppy love to come and walk and meet new friends. Everyone keeps their pups on a leash while walking the trail, but also allow them to mingle in open area unleashed. The park never feels overcrowded and the trail is about 10miles and easy to navigate. The parking on a Weekend can get a bit tricky, but you should be fine in every season, besides late summer. I’m not sure what it would look like when the new apartment complex start leasing. I have never used the pool, but I see families in it during the summer. Overall great park all year around.
The start of the Southern Walnut Creek Trail! This trail is an amazing mostly-paved trail that leads for several miles across East Austin all the way to Decker Lake. Govalle Park, the southern terminus, is a small but nice park on the east side of Austin. Fortunately it offers a fair amount of parking as the hike and bike trail is quite popular on weekends. The buildings and grounds seem well-maintained. But please, reopen the bathrooms! A porta potti is certainly not safer with regard to covid than a real bathroom. I have not used the swimming pool here but it I’m sure it offers a welcome break from Texas heat in the summer. Austin really does a great job of providing parks, trails, and open spaces!
Govalle is the southern terminus of the South Walnut Creek Trail. There's a kid's playscape, baseball fields, and plenty of space for kids to run around. Be aware that due to proximity to the animal shelter, this is a popular place for shelter volunteers to bring shelter dogs for field trips - please keep your dog on leash as we need to keep shelter dogs at least 15' away from other dogs at all times - you'll recognize the volunteers because 1) they'll have volunteer shirts on, and 2) as soon as they see your off-leash dog, they'll try to put as much distance as possible between the shelter dog and your dog, but they'll keep watching your dog.
My commute to work is about 18 miles each way and a portion of the trips are on the Southern Walnut trail. Without this convenient and immaculate cycling expressway connecting my rural residence to the more urbanized commercial areas, I would be forced to take MLK or Loyola. These two roads have bike lanes that are filled with tire ruining debris. I've never had a mechanical in the area and the park is wonderful. It's also a wonderful opportunity to meet other cyclists in a neutral setting where interested glances and radiant smiles can be exchanged.
The multi-use trail is great, but the rest of the place is just scary! Went with a friend and our two toddlers twice. Visit 1: A gang fight broke out about 100 feet from the playground where our kids were playing. Visit 2: Men's poopy underwear in bathroom, two passed out people who woke up and used more drugs and passed out again at a picnic table near playground, 2 drug deals went down in the parking lot, guy in motorized chair vomiting over the side of his chair. Pretty disgusted with what could be a decent park if the riff raff was run off!
Once upon a time, we played this cubed game here when our family would come and visit. Usually quite often as we have a large familia. Games were great , pool, water, and company always the best, but most of all being here together, in this time and space! Wow what a time. Many , many thanks for the beautiful memories.
Playground
Playscape as well.
Restrooms
Avaiable
Dog-friendliness
There is a large enough area for any pets to romp.
Picnic area
There are a few tables for gatheirings and great shade too.
They did a great job improving this park, we love coming out here for playdates and letting the kiddos run around the playground.
Playground
Great activities from climbing to slides and monkey bars and swings.
Restrooms
Restrooms have been closed on the weekends we've gone to the park.
Dog-friendliness
Bags available and lots of open space
Picnic area
Tables available, and spread out throughout the park.
At one point it might have been a really nice place to be. But every time I've gone we seen a gang fight, and Drug deals going down in front of us. While our kids are playing on the playground people around us are passed out on the park benches. This is a very sad thing because the Park it self is very pretty and we go there because of the trailhead for the long bike ride. But after this last visit we won't be going back.
I loved this park. I would go here as a kid so I recently took my granddaughter and we had a blast. They have slides for 8mths to 11yr olds. The landscape has been newly renovated plus the swimming pool is amazing it was clothes but I think I saw a shower room. I will definitely be exploring more if this park. Fyi I seen 2 happy dog owners and they have small gravel on the Play surface.
Yes the park is small but if you're a sports guy this is a good spot , this park has a baseball field, basket ball place ,there's a huge field huge enough to play other sports like soccer or football , you can also ride you bicycle there if you'd like , and another thing there's a public pool that open during the summer, yes there's swimming classes as well there
I have been living on Ahady Lane and Bolm road since I was in Elementary. My Mom still lives on this side .The new upgrades on Govalle Community Park has really BEAUTIFIED this area.It has always been a shady and lush green park since I can remember. My daughter ( who is 37 now) come daily and we have a great time!
The park has a public pool, an outdoor basketball court, some playground climbing frames, and a few picnic benches. I give it 4 stars because it is at the head of a long and mostly very peaceful, and in places quite pretty, trail (despite it's path under 183 and the flight path of Austin Bergstrom airport).
This is geared toward the kids. Great to get the kids to the park or cool off at the pool, the water fountain works inside, but is shut off outside for some reason even though it's brand new.
Restrooms
Trashed by unhoused folks
Dog-friendliness
Is fine
Picnic area
Noce
This is just a really pretty park with some lovely trees, lots of open space. I've never used the pool but it looks nice. And they have a walk/ bike trail that connects to the Greenbelt for a shortish jaunt or goes long through for a paved trail for some miles that has some lovely scenery.
Very clean, u can see the whole park, people's are very friendly, lovely pool, grills is ok u need some water holes to clean up also it's just nice all around & the trees are beautiful - shady really good. It really need some more bunches like the green one when u comming in the park
Start of the best bike path in town. Get on and head to Manor on a car free corridor. Once linked together, this will be connected to a trail network that can connect the whole city. It looks like there's a pool under construction which will be a nice way to end a long ride
Fire ants like crazy, not much grass in this drought but if you hang out under one of the huge trees it's not so bad, just watch out for the random homeless the every once in a while show up, and it's not well lit so I personally wouldn't go there after dark. More
Great 10.25 mile paved path for booking, running, and walking. There's fields along the path for rugby, cricket, and soccer. Just a really enjoyable path through East Austin. Eventually it will be a 14+ mile path to Manor, TX but that had not been completed yet.
Beautiful old park, it was a favorite of mine as a child and a favorite of my children growing up. They're attempting to upgrade areas of the park such as the pool. Playground needs to be refinished as well. Overall a great park full of Pecan trees and nature.
Love the new swimming pool. It's be has good shade and both a good little kid pool and nice deep adult pool. Also love the wide open spaces for running around and kite flying. Lots of great shade from old pecan trees and pecan picking in
Loved it here! The pool is open Mon-Sat. Its bn so hot out and hadnt been to a pool since pre-pandemic. One of the life guards told me that are looking to hire ppl cuz they are trying to open more pools soon and starting rate is $15
Remember coming here as a kid with my siblings in the summer to swim or to play at the park. Kinda sad that all the new Austin residents are taking over my old hood and changing most of the places that remind me of my childhood.
Lovely park with trails for walking and biking. Great playgrounds (one for little kids and one for bigger kids) and picnic tables for enjoying our playground snack time. Love this park! One of the best new playgrounds in town!
This is a lovely park with beautiful trees and grassy areas. Very soon the new swimming rec area and dressing rooms will be completed. The southern trailhead for the Walnut Creek Bike is located adjacent to the parking area.
The park says that there is a little playground but there was nothing and my little siblings couldn't play and to top it all of I had to walk a mile there and all for nothing they should put under construction
The park has a pool, playscape & a ball field. The Southern Walnut Creek Trail starts here. If you're coming in via bike from west of Airport Blvd, try the new bike underpass along the tracks next to Bolm Rd.
Its a verry old Austin park, verry beautiful and clean and fun playground for kids pool in the summer and a track basketball baseball and long trail you could walk also right next to a store fir convenience.
The restroom were so so dirty. How sad I was raise in the park and the restroom back then were cleaner and broken doors pieces were people can see inside the restroom. Shame shame to the staff at this park.
Nice park with a children's play area also. A place for picnics and sitting areas to enjoy the outdoors. Both suitable for families with or without children to enjoy the park like atmosphere.
Beautiful place and the construction is leaving behind a much nicer parking area now that it is partially completed. Makes a great destination to bike to on the Walnut Creek trail system.
New equipment clean park basketball swimming pool clean
Playground
New equipment nice
Restrooms
OK clean
Picnic area
Regular and flies. Yard guard did the trick.
Great park for everyone! It has a playground for kids, basketball court and great walking trails! Dogs meet up there around 530 so if you have a four legged baby they will love going
Awsome place, theres a bike trail and u can go hiking in the woods, awsome place to chill. Theres some homeless poeple there too that stay there and sleep but they dont bother nobody.
The park is pretty run down and not "safe" looking. But, it is a great entry to the Walnut Creek Hike and Bike trail. Just make sure to lock you vehicle up, if you leave it there.
Enjoyed the park, looking forward to returning when I'm on this side of town. Friendly people!
Playground
Fun to explore
Restrooms
Restrooms we're not open
I love this park it's great for my kids, biking, hoops, trails, it's awesome! My only problem with it is all the development around it. It's like a cloud looming over it.
Pretty good amount of picnic tables pool was still closed playground said you shouldn't play at it walking trails pretty nice couple homeless people throughout the park
Big open fields, modern playground, bathrooms, lots of parking. Also the start of the 10 mile long bike trail that goes past Decker power plant. All paved all the way.
Nice park and the trailhead for the Walnut Creek hike and bike trail. The trail is 7 miles, extending north towards Manor, and is popular with runners and cyclists.
To be as close as they are to a busy and quite active road, (Airport Blvd), this place is very much the diamond in the rough that one would enjoy visiting.
One of the best basketball courts (recently renovated) on the east side. Surrounded by beautiful trees in a new park. Best part: backboards are glass!
The paved path here is awesome. Could use some TLC with the facilities, but besides that a great space for kids, families, hikers, runners, and bikers
safe-ish park. enjoy going for walks during the day but might be a little more wary during the evening hours. excellent area for yoga on the grass :)
A peaceful quiet place to drink a beer after work. The bums are taking over though. They got the park benches camped out now. Don't bother me though.
very awesome bike trail! 7.5 miles of twisties and elevation changes. great workout on a road bike. ride the whole thing out then back for 14 miles.
Started on the Walnut Creek Trail from this park. Awesome trail....got in beautiful 14 mile bike ride for date night. Trail paved the whole way.
Great during the day and evening. At night it gets a little sketchy with the homeless but other then that pretty good place to take the kids.
Beautiful trees and open spaces. The start of the Walnut creek trail and Dan's is across the street. Hope to try out the NEW pool this summer
By the house good for lunch and dog walks... Neighborhood pool and basketball courts with a playground and 5 or 7 mile walkway thats paved
Wonderful multi use trail. Nice flow and twisty bits to add to the fun. Ends at Lester field, a radio control aircraft park. Really cool.
Nicely paved trails, wish they had water available at the end but you can turn off after the hill and get water at the tennis courts.
So much space its nice right by the water theres bb courts and a playground and some trails pools closed rn but it looks nice …
This is a nice change from the usual rocky trails around Austin. The main drawback is that it's almost entirely a paved trail.
Need more dog waste bag stations. Need water drink fountains. The fountains dogs have a place to drink from. Nice Park. …
Riding the Govalle Bike Path was challenging and beautiful! It allows for a safe and challenging ride with beautiful scenery!
Nice little park area different from when I used to bring my kids recently brought my nephew here and the new set up is nice
We've been to the completely remodeled play area a few times now and it's been fantastic-- ages 18 months, 5 yrs and 7 yrs.
Nice hang out, work out space. I've been there just a couple of times to play Basketball. Yeah, nice court to practice.
Trail is super chill and not too crowded. Looking forward to more connectivity to trails in town, like Walnut North.
Entrance is destroyed, but good paved path, to go on a bike ride... enjoy the green scenery around you while riding!
Beautiful place in a beautiful scenery for the kids plus got a side pool for the children to play an adult to be in
Went to my nephew's baseball game here. Glad we parked across the bridge, 2 foul balls hit cars! Great time though.
I believe the construction right now is what makes this park a undesired visit. Kids didn't want to even stay long.
Extremely nice trail for cycling. Plenty wide and well maintained. I only went out 7 miles before turning around.
Fantastic bike path and/or walking trail. It has mile markers every quarter mile and it's over 5 miles long
bare park with a lot of construction. can be fun to explore but not much besides the playground and tables.
Easy access hike and bike trail featuring paved level pathways. Great for beginners and learning to ride.
GREAT bike riding trail for the weekend warrior. Not too easy, but not too tough either. Well maintained.
Missing some swings and the restrooms were locked but other then that it was alright. Good memories here
The park is the southern terminus of the south walnut creek trail. We park there when riding our bikes.
Beautiful little park but, wish there were better parking options. Get there early on the weekends!
Nice park with parking lot, most notably it is the trailhead for the bike trail, which is amazing!
Govalle park will have two big swimming pools pretty soon, they are currently under construction.
Great new pool and the best bike trail in town but they need to rejuvenate the basketball court.
Friendly and clean. It's a nice open space for early morning hoops outdoors with all this heat.
The best park to start a road bike ride. 20 mi round trip with a pretty good uphill section...
Grandchildren had a blast, playing a great park to relax, and play, and wow the pool is open.
This place has changed so much since I last came here as a kid, the trail is a nice addition.
Nice little playground for kids and there is a nice hike and bike trail that starts there.
Pool open! Great 20 mile out-and-back paved and marked trail. Playground under renovation
When I went there, it was all under construction for installing a new pool. No bathrooms.
The bike trail was nice. Great view cycling through the trees. I can't wait to go back.
Never very crowded. Equipment is kept up. Lots of room for kiddos to run around. Clean.
The neighborhood has grown so much. It has changed the apartments going up look great.
Relatively safe parking for Walnut Creek bike way parking. Limited number of spots.
Good facilities. There always seems to be someone on drugs hanging around though.
Cuz EddieT and I had our concrete trail tires on MTB's got in 18 miles! !! !!!
Nice park. This is the access point for one of the best bike trails in Austin
Not the greatest park but the nicest off-road bike trail (paved) starts here!
Nice park with a new pool. Access to the Walnut Creek Hike and Bike trail.
Great starting point for the Southern Walnut Creek Trail. Good parking.
Great new east side park with miles of bike lanes and a great new pool
Went to BBQ with the family it brought back memories. It was peaceful.
It will be great when the pool is done. Bike trail is great for kids!
It's the trailhead for the Southern Walnut Creek Trail! It's great!!!
Best place to ride in town - no worries about tangling with traffic.
The most beautiful trees, lots of grassy space, great playground
Family friendly, connected to long paths. A beautiful escape.
