Update 7/29: went into grand cycle because i havent used my bike in awhile wanted to get it checked out and had a flat tire. the actual tire ripped when i was riding so i asked about replacements and if they had 2 matching tires. they got me the size and the inner tubes and came in a half hour before they were going to close (as well as 3 other people) and i asked to leave the bike there so they can work on it tomorrow and i can come pick it up after work. next day, talked to the couple and they explained what was replaced and gave me my old parts that they replaced. looked over the bike to make sure things were greased and tightened correctly and the bike seems brand new!. i totally understand that i have good experiences here but saying that they should retire and negative things that way isnt fair. nonetheless, great place.. bike feel brand new..a great customer experience. check them out for yourself <3 I bought a GT air roughly about 10 years ago from this place and went there pretty consistently to the point they knew me by first name. I didn’t ride for years and finally pulled my bike out a few days ago first place I called and took it to to do a once over and see what needed adjustments and replacing. This two here are amazing explained to me what parts would be good to upgrade and how much it would be. Not pushy at all. They said they’d call me back when my bike was finished. 2 hours later, it was ready. Gave me a list of what was replaced and what it does. Pricing was good. And it feels like I just bought it again. If I ever decide to get another bike it will definitely be thru these two. I’m glad even after all these years they are still Up and running. Thank you guys for the amazing customer experience.
When I brought in my bike, all that needed to be adjusted/fixed were my brakes. They told me it would be $25 to fix both the front and the back. A few days later, I got a call saying it was done but they had to mess with the rear wheel because there was a problem with it. The lady didn't go into much detail and said it would come to about $43. I wasn't too happy about that. Whatever, I went in to get it and the brakes were fixed. They then said that the front wheel had to be adjusted and the total came to $30. I was utterly confused but whatever it was cheaper than I had thought it would be. Here's where it gets good. I took my bike for a spin and the gears where definitely not where I left them. I was changing gears and as I rode, I consistently heard clicking. I had never had this problem before I brought the bike to them and I shifted through all gears seamlessly. I brought it back into them and asked them if they had to mess with the rear wheel or gears at all. They said no, but on the phone they said they did. Once again, I was very confused. So I told them I had never had the problem before I brought the bike in and the mechanic pulled out a rosary yelling at me that he swears on his rosary that he didn't touch the gears. I tried to reason with him but he kept yelling and threw me out. Needless to say, I will never be going back there again. Throughout this ordeal, they kept calling me Brian... That isn't my name... At all.... I would not suggest going to the bike shop unless you are severely desperate.
DO NOT GO TO THIS RUN DOWN STORE!!! Owner is a major you know what. I brought my bike and also my girlfriends bike into this shop last year to get a bike "tune up". Everything was fine, but my girlfriends front brakes were super tight. This year I brought the bike back into the shop and asked if he could please make the front brake much looser, because is was really tight when he worked on my bike last year. This guy went into a rant about how he will not be blamed for something he did not do. I tried to explain several times, I did not blame him for anything, and I was bringing my business back to him to fix my bike, and if I thought he did something wrong. Why would I bring my business back. His polish rant continued arguing with me about the wheel not being on correctly and that was not his fault either. This guy is way over priced also, I just wanted to keep my business in a local shop that looked like it could use some business. Now it's very obvious why this shop looks so sad. STAY AWAY!!!
I've been coming here since I was 14 years old and now I'm 34. I have allot great teen memories because of this place, this is where I fist got started in BMX/Freestyle ground attack biking. All the BMXers from River Grove would come here to get bikes and have maintenance done they had allot of choice performance parts tailored for abuse. Those were the good ol days when kids would need their rim spokes redone on a regular basis because everybody was pushing it to the limit and thus beating up their bikes but never totally destroying them. You could never justify buying an entirely new bike with this type of bike store. They had the best customer around out of any bike shop and at a reasonable prices. I consider this store to be the pinnacle of mom and pop stores. This place must be protected at all cost! By or fix your bike here and you will never want for proper customer service again.
Went in on a Saturday afternoon with a repair. A simple relatively easy repair. I was expecting to wait a day or week or whatever. I was in no rush. After being told the approximate price I was told an hour. Wait a minute did you just say an hour? 1 single hour? Not about an hour, one hour come on back. No hesitation, just a simple reminder. I got my ticket to come back, came back an hour later. I was ready to go. I stood there in almost disbelief because there it was ready to go. A simple explanation as to why it got broken and even went above and beyond to fix a few other things free of charge. Overall I couldn't have been more impressed with the service and quality of service offered and received. This is a true gem of a place a one of a kind store. Check this place out for all your needs! DO NOT miss this place!!
Consistently terrible experiences. These folks obviously have a type of customer (shall I say color?) they cater to. I have gone there on several occasions, trying to support shops in my neighborhood, but have been consistently treated poorly. They don't speak when you walk in, busy themselves with stuff behind the counter while you wait and then take care of folks that come in after you. Yesterday, I took in 2 bikes, got the usual treatment, and then after they took 15 minutes or back and forth to quote me $250 in repair, took care of a guy behind me whose repair came to $40. The place is grimy and I always get the feeling they are likely charging me way more than they should. I will not be going back. I took my bikes out of there, down to a shop in Oak Park where the experience was TOTALLY different.
In 1994 I did meet my dream bike for the first time there at Grand Cycle. A lady and a man both parent figure two fine characters did sell me their 1991 Haro Ground Master, and a set of hand crafted twisted spokes. I have not left home that far before. When my friend said '' Where Fullerton meets Grand and bit further '' Now you have to imagine two parallel lines do eventually meet close to infinity, so did I, yet I could not imagine that Fullerton would ever meet Grand, well pretty young of me. And the ride, oh, and the ride all the way to Oak Street beach was a memory I cannot forget. I should have gone back there and thank them both endlessly. Now, I like to take this moment and like to thank them both. Thank you kindly.
Didn't have a single issue with the husband or wife who run this place. Came in, he was more than happy to show me whatever I had an interest in, wasn't pushy and even let me in the display area in front. Zero attitude, and I left without buying anything that day. Did some more research online on what BMX I might like, and came back the next day with my decision. He sold me the exact bike I wanted, even adjusted it a bit to fit my stature, and while he was going over it to make sure it was ready, his wife and I chatted for a few. VERY friendly Czechs (not Polish - get to know them and get it right, people), and I would be MORE than happy to visit them again! Thank you guys!
Best BMX shop in Illinois! Well, it used to be as far as bmx they don't have the stock they used to. You could come here and get any frame, fork, bars, crank, etc but now as far as BMX they have nothing. They only do repairs, etc. Unfortunately like another of BMX shops online stores are killed BMX mom & pop shops like GC. places like dansComp, Faltlandfuel, etc. Same owners as it was 40 years ago. Anna and her husband are amazing people. very nice and they know their stuff. Been coming here since 1988 and it's exactly as it was then. PLEASE support your local BMX shops because they're going the way of the dinosaur Unfortunately.
i wouldnt ask them to overhaul any bearings here - but then again they would probably outright refuse. but i am ok with that, as they are a convenient place to pick up the odd part and get simpler stuff done like having a wheel trued. an older couple has owned the place seemingly forever and i wonder what will become of one of my favorite bike shops when they decide to retire. i have had some great conversations with the two of them. we dont know each others name, but we 'know' each other pretty well. great customer service and a fairly expansive array of bits and pieces of keep you rolling on down the road.
Rude customer service. Especially the old guy wearing glasses. I wanted to buy a seat pole for my bike. I asked him to measure the diameter and possibly find a seat pole that will fit the frame. He looked annoyed that I as a customer actually asked him to do that. So anyway, he did some measurements and walked away without saying a word and just started to work on somebody's else bike! No response if he has or not the seat pole. No answer, no goodbye, no have a nice day. Simply Nothing! What a waste of time! I will never come back to that place again.
This place is a very good mom and pops place. Covid hit this place hard they don't have any bikes for sale, and the older guy said the pandemic made bike prices double what they cost. The older gentleman really knows his bikes and can probably even take a whole bike apart blindfolded. They have been in business for a long time it would suck to see them close down, but the route they are down seems like they will. They only have customers' bikes in the shop that they are working on. ABSOLUTELY NO BIKES FOR SALE AT THIS BIKE SHOP. 09-26-23
Excellent business experience. I purchased a new rear rim and the gears were swapped without charge. They are very knowledgeable and fast with repairs. If you need a quality repair done right and quick, then this is the place to go. They take their business real seriously. You do-it-yourself keep of people, if you want help, go there well educated on your matters at hand (know what you need). Otherwise, from a liability standpoint, you won't get much help. I will be a repeat customer. 2 thumbs ups for Grand Cycle L.S
This is a small shop, but they have a great selection of bikes. It's located on Grane ave, next to other local shops. I'm so happy with the service I received. My bike had a simple fix, I was in and out in a matter of minutes. I thought the price was fair. It's a family run store. The shop owners are great! The husband was friendly ( fixed my bike )and the wife (cashier) was as very welcoming. I recommend this shop.
Very rude people. I went in to go get an inner tube changed and the man told me he was not going to do it because apparently my rim was "garbage" and that he did not want to be blamed for something he did not do. And kicked my father and I out just because we were looking around. Dont recommend going to that place. Go to Kozys cyclery on Milwaukee which has far better service and will get the job done.
Dont take your bike here! !! Worst experience I have ever had!!! RUDE RUDE RUDE!!! Received a call back with their estimate. When I asked a few questions (politely) she said "Bye! Come pick up your bike" before clicking on me. Tried calling back multiple times without a response. I can't even imagine what quality job they do.If they don't have a principle of any business, customer service!
Getting assaulted by a bike shop owner for changing a muddy tire on the sidewalk outside. Kicked my buddy's rear wheel completely out of true and threw both of our bike while yelling and cursing the whole time, finally gave up chasing and harassing us down the sidewalk after we both put our bikes down and he realized he was severely outnumbered. He didn't even ask us to sweep up..
Came in for a bike adjustment/tighten and was told to come back another day. Owner is too busy. Very short and unfriendly response. First time coming into the store, its a shame that the first impression as like this. I commute to work everyday for years and moving here from Chicago, I was excited to have a bike shop close to my new home. Guess I will have to look elsewhere.
I need to fixing my shifters and do what ever to make my bicycle back to work again. Got it back in a day and reasonable price. So hard to find bicycle shop like this anymore since every one go for online. This shop opens on time. Five stars quick services and reasonable price. Both owners are so nice as well.
Wonderful couple works/owns this place. Prices are great and they are just great to talk to. I had my inner tube replaced and the guy fixed up my brakes for free. I wish I could explain my experience in concise words but by the time I left I felt like they were family and I had to resist hugging the lady!
The staff at Grand Cycle go out of their way to help out a customer. I brought in my bike I had bought there for a tune-up and a repair. They fixed it lickity split, and didn't even charge me. They said it was a minor part and sent me on my way. I was very happy, especially when riding my bike that hums.
Complete rip off and rude. Wanted to charge me $5 to take one bolt off crank. Not striped or anything just to take it off. I said I would do it myself but wouldn’t let me. DO NOT GO HERE! Plenty of better bike shops that will enjoy having you there. Doesn’t seem like these people like being in business.
Worse bike store ever! The two people who work there (husband & Wife) are very rude people. When you buy a bike they give you one year free warranty and they wouldn't let me use the warranty. I will never buy another bike from them! But they do have a nice selection of accessories and part.
Dont know what all these bad ratings are about claiming this couple to be rude some of nicest people i have came by. Excellent customer service go above and beyond with their customers even teaching you things that most bike mechanics wouldnt defiently will be returning.
Very rude and everything is super expensive compared to all other bicycle shops.I ask one simple question and I got ran out of there . They charge too much for everything this place is a rip off do not shop there you will regret it poor customer service.
This ma and pop bike store is the BEST, he's very knowledgeable and extremely patient with the customer as well as his wife. I purchased a bike from there 10 years ago, and I go there anytime I have a bike problem, and he gets you in, and RIGHT out!
Very rude, they chase customers out, they sold me a broken bike, and refused to fix it. DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF. Rudy's is the better bike place to go. Grand Cycle refused to work on my bike because it was from Rudy's.
do not come with a fold up tire in emergency situations when you desperately need your bike for your only way of transportation, they WILL NOT help you in any way! they will not put the brand new tire on no matter what.
I've been going here since I was 15 and they never want to sell anything it's always an argument with the lady. It's a shame but none good bikes are ever for sale. Don't go there somebody please open another bike shop
Bike shop has been there since I was a teen. I just recently started riding again and needed a few things and stopped in. Older couple that work/own the shop were very nice and were very helpful and knowledgable
They suck can even put a iner tube right. GOt a iner tube put on by the then got home and took it out of car was flat and them they try to charge me for another tube. They sucks and this is not the first time.
OS this the old western auto store on west grand ave in Franklin park,I'll tharpt was originally owned by the Boris family and are these two girls running it hid daughters ? Next to the Chinese resraraunt ?
There is a reason they have been here for a very long time. I went to their shop just once. Very fast service, nice people to make business with. I will be going there again soon. I need a new bike seat!
called to see about axle and bearings lady said o whatever I have another call and hung up worst phone service I have had in a long time will never try to do service with them again very rude
Lol nice to me but i am pomish and they are czech so we have close heritage. Also, you will probably get better service if you talk to the owners about their day, where theyre from etc
Don't come here bad service ,fake nice couple who are actually rude they need to retire already. You will get better service and prices elsewhere. Save your money and time.
i needed help to put my seet down and he didnt even know how to put it down. They had very poor customer service, they are very rude and i will never go back. One Star.
Great customer service. I did not make a purchase but only due to me trying to decide what to do. I can appreciate the fact thay they wasn't upsold stuff pointlessly.
This is the Best Bike Shop in Chicago. The staff is A+++++ the service is A+++++ and the selection of bikes have been awsome for many years. I love this Bike Shop.
Great shop! My Mom took me here when I was maybe 12 years old and got me my first BMX. Still coming here at the age of 24. It's a no b.s shop. Great prices too.
He would not fix my bicycle. Stating the repairs aren't worth it. And he is trying to sell 349.99 bikes + 10% tax. I can not afford 385.00 for a new bike.
Great Store, I bring my Bike there all the time whenever I need something fixed the owners are nice and the prices are fair, especially for the quality
I called for pricing and the lady was very nice. She was polite and quite knowledgeable She spent alot of time on the phone with me over a $2.00 part.
Bought my first bike here in the 80s. Still continue to do business here. Very knowledgeable when it come to old school bikes as well as the new.
Went above and beyond with my bike tune up. Feels like I have a brand new bike now, shifts nice and all. Thank you to the folks at Grand Cycle.
Very rude don’t want to answer questions. An lazy. Plus they are over priced don’t know how they stay in business. I would stay away from them.
I've been a customer for over 15 years and the service has always been great. I'm glad this bike shop is still open after all these years!
Use to spend lots of money here don't bike to much anymore but they were over priced and perfered just take money over good service
John and his wife are very friendly and have been doing this for over 34 years. Great service and great pricing. I will come back.
Been going here since I was 14 to upgrade my bmx bike and refuse to go elsewhere, not many bikes to buy in store anymore though.
Brought in a very damagedBMX bike. Grand Cycle did a fantastic job repairing it. Couldn't have been happier. Thank you!
Only place that had the part i needed for my bike. Went to 2 other shops and this was the only place that had the part.
Horible service !!!!! Woman on phone don’t understand nothing and don’t what help you if you have some questions
This place does a fantastic job fixing bikes. They do not charge for labor if it's their bike that they sold you
They are very rude and one way or another they will mess up your bike so you have to come back and get it fixed
Did awesome job fixing my tires and putting my new seat on the bike. Wonderful people and service; thank you!
BEWARE. Owners are not wearing mask- not following Illinois COV19 guidelines. No mask, no social distance.
Family owned and operated, I would recommend for good service and knowledge. Thank you Grand Cycle
Walked in to drop off my bicycle, but they fixed it right away, minor charges. Very friendly.
The guy working on bikes was really friendly and kind would definitely come back again …
