This place is amazing! I discovered it upon moving back to Seattle 3 weeks ago. I google challah and this one one of the listings that came up. I happened to be in the area a few days later and picked up 3 of their delicious challahs. I returned this week and was too early for challah. I bought a dozen (baker’s dozen) bagels, some cinnamon rolls, a rye bread, some croissants and some cookies; everything was fantastic. A short back story. As a child we were raised on “egg bread”. I didn’t even know from white bread until I was around 10 years old. It was made by a bakery in Southern California called Weby’s; used to be on Ventura blvd in studio city. When I graduated from high school I got a job at this same bakery. I have never found a bakery that made challah in a loaf like they did. Fast forward to being at the Grateful Bread yesterday and I asked if they ever made their challah in a loaf. The person waiting on me said they had done it in the past and offered to check with the bakers about making some for me; they agreed. Today I went and picked up two loaves of challah which were sliced on a machine almost identical to the one used at the bakery where I used to work; I recognized the machine immediately. The food is awesome, the staff are awesome and I highly recommend adding the Grateful Bread to your list of go to spots. Whether your visiting Seattle or a resident you need the Grateful Bread!
I love this place. Everything is generally yummy. Outside of the super cute person with the long hair who has been cashier forever though, the service is soooo friggin slow. For example, went in today at 1245 to grab some lunch. A caesar salad with chicken. No line; maybe 10 folks in the dining area. Cute cashier was there and took my order super fast. Checked the board in the food service prep area, only saw two orders up and neither too big. There were six employees in the space; all laughing, hooting and hollering. A couple people came in after me, waiting a few minutes and got their orders. Weird right? I was there before them. Took 23 minutes to make a salad. 23 minutes! People got places to go/be, Grateful Bread. Hurry it up will ya? PS - Salad was chefs kiss btw, but it’s a simple thing to prep/turn isn’t it?
This place rocks. Has the classic Seattle feel that seems harder to find these days. I have a thing for toasted garlic bagels, and haven't found anywhere else that has a legit garlic bagel, like they have here. Its absolutely delicious. The mochas here are also great. They have a wonderful flavor. There are also a bunch of other menu items I have yet to try. Sandwiches and a variety of pastries. The service here has always been friendly, and they have never been understaffed, in my experiences. I would recommend stopping in for coffee and something to eat or snack on. It seems like they have something for almost anyone. Only thing I caution is the parking. My lowered vehicle has issues getting into the lot, and street parking is sometimes not possible to find.
After spending a week in Portland and a week in Seattle as bicycle tourists, this is the only restaurant that the kids and I felt like we had to go back to- even though lots of others were excellent. The almond croissants, cheese danishes, Marion berry danishes, snicker doodle cookies, and the bagels are all in the top 5% of the ones I’ve eaten in the 7 US cities I’ve lived in (tied w Twisted Croissant in NE Portland, but wider selection). We regret not having another week to try all of the different bakery items. Plus almost everything is organic and the prices are reasonable. Espresso based drinks were good and much better than average, so the 5 stars is for bakery items and sandwiches.
Great local spot for fresh quality breads, pastries and sandwiches. Update - I cannot successfully order food to go. More than 80% of the time my order is made incorrectly. I order a turkey sandwich with bacon, lettuce, tomato on toasted struan. No mayo, no mustard (it even says it on the ticket attached to the bag). A week ago I got a sandwich lathered in mayo and mustard. Today I got a turkey sandwich with NO TURKEY! I like the food, but come on, put a little effort into reading the ticket and making the item correctly. At this point it feels intentional.

It's a nice space with lots of seating. The staff is friendly. They have a big selection of bakery items. We got a veggie quiche, egg and cheese bagel and a mocha. The coffee was decent, but we weren't too impressed with the food. The quiche lacked flavor. The place had a good vibe, so I might come back to try some of the other items and hopefully have a better experience.

I’ve heard about this place for awhile and finally went in recently. Great vibe, food and staff. It opens early enough and can be a popular place per the breakfast and lunch rush. Ample seating both indoor and out. Excellent bread and food with many options to choose from. Coffee is cafe vita which I love! I had a very nice experience but wish there was wifi.

This spot is in my neighborhood so I frequent it fairly often. Going extra early in the morning when the bagels are fresh is the move! My only complaint is the bagel sandwich method badly needs a refresh… it could be so good with some basic tweaks. Right now the egg is dry and spongy and the cheese is over cooked. This morning it tasted vaguely like soap?? Truthfully I’d stop in much more often if the whole place had a bit of an overhaul, even aside from the recipes. It feels stuck in the early 2000s (not in a charming way) but has so much potential and is in a great location.
stopped in here for a bagel — which is hard to find in seattle. anyway, much better bagels than blazing bagels which gets all the hype. the service was friendly and fast, there is currently no inside seating (which is fine), but the baked goods all looked pretty tasty to go. coffee is caffe vita, not great but OK. i had the sesame bagel with cream cheese and the thing was beautiful (see photo). i’m not a huge dead head, but i appreciate the pun and would probably go back here. very accessible (with parking) and unpretentious.
It's the breakfast bagel sandwiches for me. Great seating options, tasty pastry case and nice rotating soups. Other favorites are their plain croissants, pizza bagels, rooster combs, and - of course - the cinnamon rolls. Staff is awesome, I really appreciate that they wear face masks!

The woman taking our order was obviously in a bad mood, it was our first time here and we’re just trying to enjoy the experience. She walked away from us and wouldn’t take our order then started cussing in front of our child. When we tried to talk to someone else about it the response we got was “oh well I didn’t see it” horrible experience

Charming local bakery that's been around since I went to school nearby! Was happy to see the same patio bench and some similar decorations from years prior. The daily vegetable lentil soup was very tasty and the bacon leek quiche was solid. Rooster's comb danish is superb and highly recommend that. Otherwise would next time try one of their bagels

Being honest, I think the bagel isn't anything to write home about. It's better than a grocery store bagel, sure, but there's a dozen shops in Seattle that do a better bagel. Great garlic and herb schmear, though. I give this a five star because it's easily the best cinnamon roll I've ever had. The dough is croissant-like in a perfect way, with an icing that's rich and not as sweet as it looks at a glance. Truly outstanding stuff.
This place is legit. Their baked goods are amazing--sourdough bread and blueberry muffins are TO DIE FOR as is their coffee. I'd say it's the BEST coffee and baked goods in town--all ingredients organic too. I love the vibe in here and it's always hoppin! Staff is super friendly. Again, the Blueberry Muffins will change your life! I keep having to come back and edit my review because I have so many good things to say! :)
If this place ever closes I will cry. With Thai of Wedgewood, Bryant corner, Wedgewood ale house, and Wedgwood mart all closing I fear that all the other small businesses in Wedgwood will close too :,( I’ve been going here since I was a kid, I freaking love this place. Never close grateful bread!!! You are all we have left!!!!!

We went on a Saturday morning, so the place was understandably busy. But a nice, spread out line that moved through really quickly. We got a few pastries, a bagel, and coffee. Everything was impossibly delicious. The ham and cheddar croissant was mind blowing. And the butter croissant was as beautiful as it was tasty. We will definitely be back before our trip is over!
Best bagels in Seattle! I tried a dozen bagel places when I moved to Seattle and these are by far the best taste, variety of flavor options, and price. The bagels are soft and have a good chew. There is usually a line when we go in on the weekends, but it moves quickly. They have lots of pastries, breads, and sandwich options too!
Just moved to the neighbourhood and I love this place! It’s hard to find good bagels in Seattle and Grateful Bread is definitely one of the best. The staff is always super friendly, they even let me taste test the bread before I purchased a loaf. Hot sandwiches and baked goods are delicious too!
Just what we wanted for a small lunch before our visit to the iconic Wedgewood Rock. Salmon spread on a Poppyseed Bagel and Lentil soup with a nice sample of their delicious bread. Although it is Teabag Tea, the ginger turmeric was pungent with actual bits of root instead of the usual powders.
Fantastic local bakery. Cinnamon roles have wonderful lamination and are some of the best I’ve ever had. There can be some variability, I think due to who is baking that day, but never had a bad baked good. Organic ingredients, day olds and reasonable prices means it’s a local gem.
A good spot to window watch from the lobby, with lots of natural light for reading. I really liked this lil coffee nook, and enjoyed my breve latte in quiet peace.

Amazing local bakery. Great coffee, friendly service, and of course the yummiest bakery in NE Seattle. Call the day ahead or early morning if you want challah. Their soups and quiches make super yummy lunch too. The veggie quiche is my favorite. Enjoy!
Love this place, love the staff. Pastries and a quiche are on point. Coffee hits the spot. Cheese Danish are lovely. I refuse to tell you my fave because it will change your life and force me to go earlier to beat you to the counter. Yes. I am selfish.
Always excellent. Everything is delicious. If you want a no-frills taste test, go cinnamon raisin with light butter. Nothing to hide behind there. But they have nothing to hide from at all though.

Yum! Their cookies are extremely large, great selection of pastries. My Mom likes it MUCH better than the bakery a few blocks away, so do I. Their espresso is very good, too. They are a lot more accommodating with support animals, than other places.
Great baked goods and awesome cookies. The molasses cookie was one of the better cookies I've had and the chocolate croissant was flaky and delicious. We got there just before 1 pm on a Saturday and they were all out of bagels, so they must be good.
Heard about this place from friends. Great vibe, food and staff. Excellent bread and food with many options to choose from. Coffee is cafe vita which I love! I had a very nice experience.

Absolutely amazing place! Ordered a number of different things, including a couple different bagels, croissants a loaf of Italian bread and some scones. Everything was absolutely fantastic! Service was incredible. They require mass indoors
The staff is super friendly and the food is amazing. It was the 5 of us on our last visit and everyone loved their food. They don’t have coconut milk for lattes/mochas but they do have almond, soy and oat milk. We visited in February of
Everything is good here. We had a pesto pizza bagel, a marinara pizza bagel and a turkey sandwich, and loved all of them. Also took home a fresh loaf of delicious multigrain bread. The coffee is also very good quality, and well made.
If you ever find yourself north of UW. Stop in for these amazing Croissant Cinnamon Rolls. Very light and the creamiest cream cheese frosting. Addictive

Great pastries and decent coffee at reasonable prices, and the staff are friendly. It's also nice that there's plenty of indoor seating (and some outdoor seating too), since this place is pretty popular on weekend mornings.
Welllll this is the best cinnamon roll I’ve ever had. I even ate a cinnamon roll in Norway that was advertised as “Best Cinnamon Roll In The World” and now I’m going to have to go back and tell them that they’re #2 now :(
The prices are great and the bread is fresh! It's so hard to find good food in Seattle that doesn't break the bank. This is one of those rare gems. They also sell bagels and bread that is a day old at a discount! More
It's a real bakery and a great eat neighborhood place to sit and have Latte and pastry. The paninis, made with their fresh bread, are also pretty great. They have both inside and outside seating.
Good sandwiches, good Ethiopian bread, the standard white loaf we got was pretty dry, tomato basil soup was not for me. The service was friendly and lots of options to choose from.
The Seattle bakery experience, organic rustic artisan breads delicious pastries, soup and sandwich, vita coffee and friendly staff, super limited parking but totally worth it.
It's a pretty good place to get sandwiches

I have been going here for many years & it has always been a great experience. My favorites are the rooster combs & the cinnamon rolls. Would highly recommend it.
Very friendly staffs. Good sandwiches and soup. Parking space limited though Most recent visit: April 2018. Very good bread. Broccoli cheddar soup was ok.
Great bagels, great food, great vibe, typically great service. However the experience I had today will have me taking a long break from going back.
Hands down our favorite bakery and deli. They do a great job every time

Best bakery café in NE Seattle. Great ambiance wonderful variety of baked goods, quiches, soups, sandwiches, etc.
We get our weekly challah here and it's always a treat to sit in the front room and treat myself to brunch!
The bagel is really good and cheap. It's my first time to buy it. I very like and I will often to go there.
I love their cinnamon buns and the the cheese Danish along with the twice baked almond pastry. …
