Exceptionally nice staff who only persuaded me towards equipment and bikes that met my needs rather than push the more expensive items. EDIT: Update: It's been a couple of months since I bought my Specialized MTB. It was definitely not a more expensive version but a mid-level hard tail. Since then I've logged a few hundred miles on it in hot, warm, cold, freezing, rainy and snowy weather. I mostly ride to work or to go shopping for food and other needs because I sold my car long ago. To date it has been a dream to ride and has never failed on me. I did get one flat in that time because I went over a curb too fast. Otherwise it's been great. And, yes, there are things I will definitely need to upgrade for better performance (for when I compete this coming season) but as it stands this thing is fantastic. In the time I've had this bike the Gray Goat team has adjusted the mechanics several times (minor things that all bikes require when they are being broken in) and provided good advice on other times. They even took for adjustment when I was there just to get lights for the bike. Sweet. I don't make much money so when I do buy something I want it to be worthwhile and provide exactly what I need. Again, Gray Goat has not yet steered me in the wrong direction. The stuff I have purchased has worked exactly as they explained. The information they provided allowed me to make a wise choice as later I checked reviews on most of what I have purchased to find their recommendations were in sync with those of professional cyclist. Yay. I actually look forward to being able to get a more capable bike when I have the money saved up and I've already begun window shopping at their store. Full suspension, baby! This review sounds like a fanboy trying to convince others to also buy his favorite product but I am not blind to my purchase. I did check out the other stores in the area, I actually wanted a different bike (more expensive, harder to find) and wasn't convinced that Gray Goat would be, or would remain, a good choice. They person who initially talked to me months before I bought the bike was an experienced rider both casually and professionally. I gave him my basic needs and rather than the more expensive options he steered me towards the far less expensive, but not cheap, Specialized MTB. After researching it, going back a few times, checking other places I eventually went back and made the purchase. Smooth as butter. Now, two months later, I've been back there a few times for adjustment or other purchases (each one researched to be certain I was getting what I needed) to improve my bike experience. To reference this review I just can't be happier with my decision to go Gray. I will be back there for my next bike without hesitation.
Responsive to all needs in all the right ways in an absolutely gone-wrong world of manufacturing and shipping deficiencies known to end such businesses overnight. It's hard to feel served by a business that falls short of pre-Covid-19 expectations. That's because you haven't been served. However, since that is the unavoidable reality in the world of bicycle shops, you will have to adjust those expectations if you want any substantive interaction with it. Here's what you should know to make that eventually happen: Gray Goat fails in no wise to understand the hardship in that for you, and it shows. For example: If a bike you want isn't available due to a manufacturing or shipping delay beyond their control, they can tell you why with a specificity akin to an IRS audit. They can say where your bike is made, where and how is it shipped and stored, in some cases, down to the production schedule, storage depot and transportation route. Insodoing, they ground your expectations in detailed reality, never once shrugging their shoulders in a your-guess-is-as-good-as-mine fashion. Of course, that changes nothing until it changes something, and your assessment of the futility of that is right-on. Even still, you should fail in no-wise to see just how important their business is to them. Regardless of their motivation — whether it be for the love of money or the love of you — their demonstration of a desperate desire to keep going evidences an absence of and aversion to the prevalence of disinterest that now pervades most businesses that have succumbed to their impending doom. Unless you have already succumbed to same, you'll find their attitude a boost against same. That's nothing now, I'll admit; but it's something later if God be true. A passion for business, which is a passion for people, becomes a habit when it endures. Even though Gray Goat suffers like everyone else, I'm confident a difference will reveal itself in the end.
Gray Goat is the best! Brian and Cory were extremely helpful in picking out and setting up my new Allez. I ordered my bike just before Specialized issued a recall of the fork. Before the details were released on the recall, Specialized stopped shipping their Allez models, so Brian went out of his way to drive to another location to get me my bike. He got me on the list and swapped out the fork as soon as Specialized shipped the new forks. He then worked out the details to get me the $75 gift card from Specialized (due to the recall). After some initial bike set-up I was having some knee and back pain. Brian and Cory worked with me to adjust my saddle and swap out a stem for a slightly shorter one. I highly recommend Gray Goat to anyone as a place to buy a quality bike. I plan on buying a mountain bike from them in the future, and I will also be spending more money at this shop instead of buying stuff on-line. I'll gladly pay a tiny bit more to support them and benefit from their experience. In many cases, their prices are the same as on-line pricing anyway. Just go there and tell them what you want to do on a bike. You won't regret it!
Gray Goat Sports is by far the most welcoming LBS I have ever been in. The two managers are helpful and reassuring when it comes to the purchases I have made in the shop. The owner is warm and welcoming did not even realize it was him when he first assisted me. The rest of the staff is always inviting and knowledgeable, I have bought two bikes from them and almost all my accessories and components for those bike. They even have a beginners ride to cut your teeth on while getting to the cycling world where experienced cyclist work with you and others to form a solid group ride which is no drop (no drop means that you will never be left behind). This team has taught me the love of cycling and I owe them a great thanks for helping develop a true passion in my adult life outside of the 9-5 grind. Thanks Gray Goat and I will see you all on the Road!!!!
Jake and Gray Goat Bicycle Indy are AWESOME!!! I had a really great experience. My son is participating in his first Triathlon and I took him to get fitted with the manager Jake! Right from the start he was very understanding and knowledgeable to our situation. We scheduled our appointment and Jake took his time answering all of our questions, giving my son helpful tips, and assisting us with what we needed and didn't need for his first time. Additionally my son was able to participate in a class to learn how to change his tires. The staff members are very knowledgeable as well and made the class enjoyable. The showroom is immaculate with lots of differs types of bikes, gear, and accessories and I loved the upstairs bar area! This is a fantastic bike shop with great staff and management!! I just wish it was closer to my house!
The staff at the shop are very helpful. I bought a bike at their old location on SR135 a few years ago as a gift for my husband. They were helpful in selecting something in my price range. Since then, they moved to the Southport location and my husband got me a bike as a gift. We have been a few times for accessories. They are always helpful. Back in the spring, they told me about group rides. I attended my first one today. The Sunday rides are paced for the slowest rider, who was me. The faster riders go ahead in an group and someone from the staff stays with the slower rider(s). I felt very welcome. After the ride I enjoyed a beer and a chat with Michael from the shop and a few other riders. If you are looking for a bike, accessories, or gear, I recommend checking out this shop.
I went in for a bike addition for my 6 month old son. These guys were awesome! Very knowledgeable and super helpful. I ended up buying a bike for myself and they were very set on making sure it was the perfect bike for me. Helped with seat adjustment, making sure I understood gear changes...explained that they would be there in the future with a free first time tune up and free support. Im a dad of 4 and just took my daughters out on a bike ride with my new bike. My bike was everything I hoped it would be and my daughters for once had to catch up to me! This is the only bike shop I'll be using in the future! Great customer service and a definite 5 stars!
I arranged a bike fit with Brian due to his level of knowledge, experience and level of certification. He was very willing to educate me on the process and the why of it. He was timely with his appointments and great with follow up. I had to have a follow up appointment for my new shoes due to my larger than normal women's foot size, 43. Not only did Brian have the 2 closest sizes and their 2 color choices for the shoes, he price matched them. Lastly, he extends follow up on the set up for future tweaking if needed. Additionally, I purchased other bike related items and will continue to shop there despite living in Bloomington.
Brian sold me my first Mt Bike many years ago when they were at the old location off 31. I felt like i got a good deal and could tell they knew their stuff. The mechanics were great too. I've only been to the new location a couple times to get some misc stuff but i have no doubt they remain one of if not the best bike shop in Indy. There were many times they got me a fast turnaround on a bike tune or fixed something so i could hit the trail the next day. Not sure about now but they used to sell Hoosier Natnl Forest trail passes here. You can get all your Power Gels and Hammer stuff here too last i checked. Good people here.
Have purchased bikes from the Franklin store and have been very pleased with the exceptional staff and the services that are offered. Being new to cycling, they have helped me to make sure I'm getting what I need to enjoy the sport. I have attended some of the clinics that are offered and benefitted from the greatly. I've showed up for some of the group rides and haven't felt intimidated by being new to the group. If I have had any questions they have always been answered professionally and knowledgably. This shop is awesome and I would and have recommended it to others.
Went to them for my tire to be aired up as well. They over aired up the tire and the tire blew up. I called BGI OF Indy who replaced my tire and fixed the lining all for $20 where as Gray Goat representative could not air my tire up in one day I had to leave it over night. When I tried to ride the bike after 3 peddles the tire blew out. They charged me $21.09 to PUT AIR IN A TIRE THAT THEY AIRED UP INCORRECTLY AND CAUSED IT TO BLOW OUT. I will NEVER RECOMMEND YOU ALL. Take your bike here: Bicycle Garage Indy & BGI Fitness for customer service!!!!
flackjacket tech for mountain bike so far I ride alot prolly see me if your around south all construction no issues like kenda mountain bike tire like them but flackjacket tread is doing much better it will throw rocks off it occasionally but only reason noticed it hit bike obviously so if this be problem for you the kenda ...this store followed to many new locations guys have been doing it since I was kid seem like keep up with new stuff great (electric) kinda wish had the 20 inch or 24 inch selection little better inside but great place.
I am beyond happy that I stopped in at Gray Goat Bicycle Co. on Southport rd. This homeless man in my neighborhood had his bicycle stolen along with his backpack of his belongings. I explained this to Michael at the shop and he said to come on in. He had a bike they were using for parts and fixed it up and let me purchase it for what it took to get it running! There was another kind hearted man who overheard the story and went half with me!! I highly recommend and wish more people had hearts like these men!! Check him out! We made his year!
Every time I go here, the guys are so good to me. They are extremely knowledgeable. I don't go anywhere else. Highly recommend...AND... he, at first put a certain type of wheel tape on my rim....and then decided there was a better option. He took the time to take the tire off the wheel AGAIN...and put an even better rim tape on for my application... He didn't have to do that...I would have never known the difference. He did it like he would have done his own... I am grateful for that. Gray Goat is the best.
I recently experienced an issue with my mountain bike. The staff and owner of Gray Goat were instrumental in helping me get back on the trail! They took the time to provide and explain the myriad of component options available and which were compatible with my current drivetrain. They then facilitated the ordering, purchase, and installation of. The staff are knowledgeable and don't push a sale (VERY much appreciated!). Highly recommend this shop (both locations).
Editing my review to add a star because this bike was stolen recently and their extra step to register it (referenced below) helped it get returned today! No other bike shop I’ve ever bought from has gone the extra step to do that, and it really paid off! Happy with the bike, fair price. The sales experience included some typical bike shop snobbery but the bike is well put together and they registered it with a stolen bike registry which is cool.
We went in as a family to pick out my son’s first pedal bike for his birthday. Every staff member spoke with us and were all very pleasant and willing to help. The bike we were interested in was not on the floor so they built one out of a box right then and there so my son could ride it around. They also cut an after market kick stand to size and installed it to fit the tiny bike. Great service and we will be back for future bike needs!
I had a really hard time finding a bike rack that would work with my car and my little travel trailer. They did an excellent job of exploring all the options --- and of explaining the pluses and minuses of each one. They were terrific! They also did a wonderful job of installing the bike rack I bought from them. It is completely secure. They are knowledgeable, thoughtful, and a real pleasure to work with. Thank you, Grey Goat!
Stopped by today to get my bike looked at. The rear derailleur had been shifting poorly. Not only was it seen to right then and there, they also took the time to show me how to properly clean my entire bike. Which was explained to be the root cause of my shifting problems. This kind of one-on-one attention from a shop is very much appreciated, and gives the impression that you are more than just a customer to them.
Love this bike shop. My husband and I have only been riding a year now and love everything about it, and it wouldn't have been possible without the help of the Gray Goat staff. They really went out of their way to make sure we were getting exactly what we needed to enjoy cycling. They offer clinics, exceptional service and friendly group rides. Can't say enough about how happy we are about our experience
Had to get my cycle repaired under warranty and the manufacturer said to take it here. They proceeded to do additional work on it with out getting my approval or even contacting me first. Charged me for said extra work and I found out later they threw away or stole some unusual parts I had on it. I've only been to two Gray Goat shops once each but I've had issues every time.
Went to get a tire inner tube replaced on my stand-up electric scooter. This is pretty much the only place we could find that even did this kind of service, and we were not disappointed! The staff clearly knew what they were doing, and they did a great job changing the tire. Despite being a bike shop, would definitely recommend for anyone having scooter problems.
What a great shop! I got the quarantine desire to get a bike and had been looking/researching but still wasn’t quite sure what I wanted. Rick was so patient and kind, explaining lots of different things I needed to know to make decision. I came away with this red beauty and Gray Goat is coming away with a life long customer in me. Thanks so much Rick!! :)
Bought a bike from Gray Goat in late May. The bike was creaking and shifting poorly after a few rides. Brought the bike in and was told shifting was fine and that I am wrong about the noise. I had to drive a few hours to get here and very disappointed in the staff customer service and their rude demeanor. Will definitely not recommend shopping here.
Avoid this store at all costs. after buying headlight i tried to return it less than an hour later. told they don't take head lights back as the sign says. trouble is that is not what the sign said. then was told well that is on our web page. if it is, you cannot see it. if could give them zero stars i would. they don't care about their customers
A lot of items and parts available to the public. Impressed with the quality of brands and merchandise, wasn't able to find anything from Kona though. With great quality comes a great price though! Looking forward to trying their services out in the future. Just had a derailleur tune up/repair, fee was not bad and service was quick!
They have a nice selection of bicycles whether you are a beginner or expert. Prices are reasonable and competitive. Have purchased three bicycles there in the past two years--one Electra and two Specialized-- and have been very happy with the sales and service aspects of Gray Goat Sports. Highly recommend trying them out.
My son’s bike needed a new chain, a new brake pad and lines. The guys fixed it while we waited. They were friendly, knowledgeable, and the price for the work/parts was very fair. My son was thrilled to have his bike working right again. We will definitely take our other bikes there when we need work done on them.
The staff were extremely helpful, patient, and understanding. We brought my daughter in to find a better adaptive seat for her bike and Rick helped us find the right fit, try out a couple and ensured we would have it installed for her I Can Bike camp the next day. They have absolutely earned a lifelong customer.
Even during the busy season, I have had very little wait before I was greeted by someone ready to help. Their pricing is competitive and with several locations in Indy, there’s a large stock in town. Also, had a tune-up and everything worked very well. Most of my experiences have been at the north store.
I highly recommend Gray Goat Bicycle Co. on Meridian Street! They have ordered and built 3 bikes for me now, and each time has been a flawless and kind experience. Each employee treats me extremely well whenever I am in the store and I look forward to bringing my business to their shop in the future!
Dropped off 2 bikes to be packaged for shipping. Both bikes arrived to the destination poorly packaged. 1 frame scratched and 1 missing a seat collar. Talked with the shop numerous times and in the end took no responsibility for any of it. I would not recommend their service department for any work.
The bike experts at Gray Goat South are amazing! I gained an abundance of knowledge from Michael today on changing out my road tires to gravel tires for a gravel event. I feel confident in the tires he helped me select and he even provided beneficial tips on tire changing to me. Great experience!!!
Brian and crew helped with a fitting and tuneup today, and did a super job. I ride 5000 miles a year and fittings are critical to avoid joint and muscle pain. Gray Goat uses the Retul system for precise fitting. Brian was very thorough, and took the time to explain everything. A great shop!
We bought some e-bikes last week and they were EXCELLENT to work with! We were leaving town and they did everything they could to get our bikes ready for the trips...and we loved them! Jacob, the manager, was great, and so was everyone else there. Highly recommend this shop for sure!
Gray Goat Bicycle on Southport Road in Indianapolis was amazing. They ordered multiple bikes in for my son to test ride. They adjusted & made the bike feel comfortable. Very pleased with all their service what they have to offer. This is around our 6th bike bought here. Thanks again.
Brought my bike in for a quick safety check and chain work. They had me in and out within 20 minutes. I had all of my questions answered and I left satisfied. I will definitely come back in for future maintenance. The staff are very professional, definitely felt valued as a customer.
Well stocked with products and bike accessories. Predominantly Specialized Brand. Well layed out merchandise is well displayed. Prices are medium to higher end. I purchase my cycling Gels and small parts from Chris R and Crew.. Knowledgeable staff and full service mechanic shop.
Jacob was very knowledgeable and professional. He took the time to properly address my needs and helped me find the right shoes and insoles. I will definitely be coming back when I have need. The customer service was spot on, so glad I choose to give them a try today.
All growing up my family went here for any bike needs to receive great service. I just got an awesome bike last summer from here! There riding groups are very friendly & welcoming (just like the staff). The owners are pretty amazing too - great family !
Matt was helpful, efficient, and friendly when we brought our bike in today. He got the tube fixed quickly so that we could ride our bike again! He also offered sound advice and recommendations when we asked his opinion about some things on our bikes.
I went in looking for some answers on a few questions I had. The gentleman that helped me went above and beyond what I was expecting. He was very knowledgeable and friendly. I like working with him so much that this store has now become my bike store.
Excellent staff, service, and selection. They were able to get me exactly what was needed to repair my daughters bike. This was my first experience with Grey Goat Bicycle Company and I was impressed. They will be my go to for all our bicycle needs.
They were not trying to sell me stuff I didn't need. They explained what I needed to do to get my bike up and running again. They showed me what parts I may need to replace in the future and where they were located in the store. I will be back!
Had bought a bike online, had trouble with the cables. Gray goat replace the shifter cable, working great. Two days later the chain broke, took it back to have that fixed. That put a new link in the same time. Very happy to have great service.
The guys at Gray Goat are the best around. If you are looking for top notch customer service as well as a wide variety of products this is the place for you. They are open 7 days a week and always willing to help you no matter your budget is.
This is more like a big box store than a local bike shop. It has a lot of very expensive, probably high end bicycles. I think this store is targeted at racers and people who cycle professionally and can throw down a lot of money at once.
Promised to match price from a competitor (BGI) so I made the drive down from the north side. I told them that BGI was out of stock and that was why I was calling around to see if anyone else would match the deal. Got there and they were
Excellent experience everytime. If they don't have something in stock they will find it at another location or order it for you. Someone is always there to make sure you have been helped. They are very knowledgeable and willing to help.
Staff are invested in assuring customers are heard. There is no interest in "up selling"-- they want to understand what your needs are and help you select product based on that vs what costs more or has more bells, and whistles.
Very knowledgeable I thought a bike was just a bike no you Put technology in there and it's a whole new thing But otherwise very nice people I'm not gonna lie the are very pretty but I understand it because of the technology
Gray Goat is great and the only place I will take my bike for maintenance. They communicated to me every step of the way. Very knowledgeable and took their time giving me a mini tutorial of my new tubeless tires and wheels.
Worked with Larry to get my kids bikes fixed that I bought at Walmart. He was very friendly and knowledgeable and explained things perfectly. Bones are back up and running and better than ever. Was inexpensive as well.
I brought my bike in to have the front derailleur checked after having issues shifting and dropping the chain. Larry was absolutely amazing and meticulous about making sure it was aligned correctly. Thank you so much!
I had a GREAT experience with this shop. Super knowledgeable about my problem, they walked me through my issues in a way three other shops haven’t, and their prices are more than competitive. This is my new bike shop
"Grayt" knowledgable staff, friendly, no worries if you have little or no experience. They sell Specialized. They are local and responsible to the locals. I like the sales staff here, there are no bike snobs here.
Great overall experience everytime i have been in. Even fixed my bike on the fly after a short trail ride so i could go back out. Just bought a few helmets for me and the kids and the staff was great. Thanks!
Needed a rear wheel bearing for my wife’s coaster bike. Gentleman at gray ghost took the bearing races back to the work area and found the proper bearing for it. I put it all together and it rides just fine.
Got a little confused finding the right size mountain tire for the bike the tires are in the back so you must ask it is a expensive but they do have the newest stuff. Disclosure all bike shops are expensive.
This Bike Shop has been the best I have ever been to. The staff are jovial and very knowledgeable. They are apways eager to help and take the time to explain the intricacies of parts, options, and settings.
I love this shop! I’ve had my awesome gravel bike for about 5 years, and all upgrades and repairs have been done through this shop. The staff are great help and give many options regardless of your budget.
My spouse and I got both our road bikes from Gray Goat at their previous South Indy location back in 2017. We've been very happy with both bikes and have never had any issues with quality or performance.
Great service and competitive in store pricing. Have purchased several rides for MtB and joy riding around the neighborhood. Always friendly staff and they help with the trail efforts at Southwestway
I was looking at two different models and Jacob hooked me up with test rides swapped peddles out a couple times and I ultimately got the bike I felt most comfortable on. Great job Jacob!
Purchased my Specialized Tarmac here and had an awesome fitting done. Super friendly staff and they know their stuff. Very satisfied with the quality and service. Thanks again Brian!
Cory, Brian, and the guys are the best to work with. I have purchased a lot from them and had them do a lot of work on my bikes. The new shop is a big improvement! Thanks fellas!
Great experience at the Southport location. Mike and Rick were fantastic on getting my bike tuned up and ready to go again. Edit- bike worked wonderful for my first triathalon.
Awesome bike shop!!! It's set up like the other bike shops in Indy, but the people are friendly and most helpful in all facets of purchasing and maintaining your bicycle.
I am a first-time caller of "Gray Goat Bicycle Co. Indy" -- I spoke of that there be another Indiana bicycle retailer with the wording of "Indy" in its business title.
Friendly, responsive, great selection, and quality mechanic work! I have been buying bikes at Gray Goat since 2003 and will continue to do so for myself and my family.
The staff is incredibly kind and extremely helpful. I truly appreciate them taking the time to walk me through several items. That’s what you get when you shop local.
Had the part I needed, seem like nice people. Low pressure sales, employees who know the product. 2nd time here,I recommend it if you need a bike or parts and service
The entire crew was friendly and helpful, I was there for service on my e-bike. Mike fixed me up quickly and got my problem taken care of. I will be back!
I was there for a bike fit. It was a very productive visit. Jacob did an awesome job setting me and my bike up. Everyone there was friendly and helpful.
Stopped by to fix a flat- that were so helpful and knowledgeable I was really impressed-and glad to have someplace for bikes open on Monday nearby!
Purchased a new bike , month ago , I've upgraded wheels and other items and they have gone above, on their service . It's been a great experience.
Yet another bike emergency hit us If it weren’t for Rick & the team at GG - Zane Meyer (left) would not have earned his first race podium. …
Super friendly and very skilled, turn around was on the longer side but that’s to be expected when it comes to more complex service projects
Today, my wife and I had great service from friendly/knowledgeable staff. What a great, new location too! Thanks for the awesome experience!
The shop techs are fantastic. They took time to chat about a variety of topics and had practical advice on bike maintenance and gear.
Always exceptional service from extremely qualified staff. Purchased a Terratrike tandem recumbent, life-changing for me and my son.
Helpful and friendly staff and the items that I was looking for. The fact that they are having their end-of-summer sale didn’t hurt.
I've stopped in there a couple of times for small repair parts and they were always very helpful with advice and products selection.
Great place. Clean and well stocked. The repair / salesperson was friendly and well knowledged. I'll head back for future repairs.
Great service. Really appreciate the attention to detail. As well as not costing me and arm and leg to get my bike repaired.
Stopped in on a visit to Indy and really enjoyed the shop. I received great service and the store had a great selection.
Jacob was just awesome!! He took the time to make me feel welcomed and valued as a customer. Above and beyond service.
Their "sale prices" are usually full retail. So they either overpriced their items, or lie. Either way, dishonest AF
Took in a scary looking beat up bike and the guys at the shop fixed it up and got it looking brand new! Awesome job.
Jacob was Exceptional!!! Very knowledgeable, patient, and an absolute delight to deal with. Highly recommend!
Great service and everyone was very friendly! Cost of the repair was very reasonable and done on the spot.
Bought new pedals. The gentleman who waited on me was very professional at went out of his way to help me.
Great store, great service. Purchased my sons first bicycle here and the experience was exceptional.
The gentleman that helped me dial in my suspension on my new bike was very helpful and informative!
I was very happy with the service. Will definitely go back for future needs! I highly recommend!
Best ever. Weve been buying our bikes from Gray Goat since 1995. Always the best service! ♥️
Great experience, went here to get my flat tire repaired. Service was quick and reasonable
Very helpful, friendly staff, today and in the past. Fantastic pricing, will return SOON.
Great bike shop! Have had multiple good experiences with their mechanics and sales team!
