"Overall I enjoyed my experience at Great Jones Spa"
If I could give 0 stars I would. It was my birthday and my best friend and I booked hot stone massages and body scrubs at Great Jones Spa. My friend and I get massages on a regular basis since we were in college (we are both now in our thirties). I used to come to GJS in college and remember it being a nice experience. Now? It is dirty and the massage technicians/ management are terrible. I was supposed to receive a hot stone with a deep tissue massage. I told my technician I wanted a deep tissue massage and asked her TWICE to go deeper during the massage. She basically just "grazed" my skin with her hands and then put luke warm and cold stones over my body. Half way through I had to END the massage! It was so, so terrible. I was really cold and miserable with how bad it was I couldn't even finish it. The technician was really sweet and I felt terrible- but I was so cold and miserable I just couldn't finish it. I apologized for making it uncomfortable and she was really sweet about it. She told me she would let her manager know. I expected them to come and find me to discuss but they never did. After my friend got out- she *also* complained that she did not have a good massage but her stones were at least hot (she made no complaints). We were sitting there and noticed how dirty the place was. What used to be a table with snacks and drinks was now a tub of water and hot water for tea out of *plastic* cups. Everything has really gone down hill here. We decided there was no way we were going to enjoy the next service so decided to go to Equinox and get massages and treatments there- SO GLAD WE DID THIS. Anyways, we head to the front desk and was told management would come talk to us because I was not going to pay for my massage. It was a young guy that clearly came ready to fight. He never let me get my story/ experience out. He only focused on my complaint that the stones were cold and was *adamant* that they were not (...because he was there enjoying the massage with me???!!!) He told me that he checked the temp of the stones and there was no issue with them... Then why did I leave HALF WAY THROUGH a massage?? Who leaves halfway through a massage?!? It has to be pretty bad to not finish your service!! Anyways, he charged me for 35% of the massage and refused to give me the massage for free. I am currently fighting this with my credit card company and will be leaving a review *every* place that I can possibly can to tell others that there are *WAY* better places with MUCH better customer service, better services in general, and cleaner facilities. Highly, highly recommend Equinox. They had champagne for us, food, the services were *INCREDIBLE* and the customer service was *out* of this world. GJS has a lot to learn if it's going to survive! Most of the clients sitting in there with us were young kids .. that should tell you all you need to know. Management here is just terrible and has NO idea how to handle legitimate complaints. I came ready to discuss and would have been willing to find a compromise however his abrupt and rude demeanor- telling me how my experience *actually* was has pushed me to getting petty about it. Do not come here- your money is better spent at Equinox!!
Today, I went for facial and body massage appointment , spent about $ 500 and my entire day traveling all the way from forest hills queens to great jones spa New York downtown. I was checked in by the front desk with the gift certificates my daughter had gifted me for facial and body massage. But after my facial and massage done and I was checking out , the totally inexperienced front desk girl who made me spent over half hour just because she couldn't find my facial gift certificate in the system in-spite of me providing all the information regarding my email , phone number and my daughter email and phone and even showed them the all paid gift certificate online purchase email confirmation with order number and the amount $ 151.53 The front desk girl kept asking me questions with an attitude Making me feel like I was just pretending and got the service without gift certificate , she not even knowing the spa policy that they do not let anyone check in without having a booking in the system and credit card on file. I showed her the email confirmation which clearly stated the facial order number and the gift certificate to be picked at spa but still she couldn't find my facial gift certificate. In short I end up spending over 30 min and then even talked to the manager inside and explained the entire situation, showed her the email with order number and the mgmt. person was able to find my facial order gift certificate in the system but without any apology both manager and other mgmt. person just said it happens as we have so many booking in the system ! Excuse me is that all you have to say ? Neither the front desk girl apologized. Spa manager didn't apologized nor admitted that the front desk staff need to be more trained and seasoned. I wish they had a co operate head office phone number or customer service so I could file a complain of misconduct with me and the horrible experience the front desk girl and manager made me go hurting me emotionally. I would never ever go to this spa again and I hope people reading my review should think twice before booking an appointment with this spa.
Beware - they will upgrade your service without telling you. I was booked for a signature facial. When I went in the room, first of all it was pitch black and very hard to see. The esthetician said the facial I booked was customized to my skincare needs, and said she felt I’d benefit from a hydrafacial. I was going to say no, and she said the facial is “only $130”. I said fine. It was a horrible facial. I have suction cup marks all over my hair line and bruising/broken blood vessels under my eye. The massage portion of the facial lasted maybe 2-3 min and I’d hardly call it a massage. She placed a sopping wet sheet mask on my face and we just sat there for maybe 10 min. No hands on or anything, just sitting there. When the facial was done, I had product all over my face that wasn’t completely rubbed in to my skin, and the SPF was pilling all over. I went to the front desk to confirm the price and they said $240! I was there with a bachelorette party, so I decided to email them later to complain about my poor treatment. After reaching out to them via email with no response, I called 2 days later. They told me, “we forwarded it to our manager but it’s like…a Monday? So like, they have to investigate and get back to you”. Once the emailed back, they basically told me it was my fault, I must’ve misheard as they would never quote that price, they can give me 20% off, and that they’d waited for me that day to talk with me. When I checked out that day no one had mentioned anything to me, so that is a lie. I followed up to that email saying I didn’t think 20% was worth it, and felt I should be charged the original price I booked for as I was upgraded without anyone telling me it was an upgrade. No response. I called the next day and they told me this person wasn’t even the “real manager” and they’d forward it to their esthetician manager. No response. Called later to speak w the original manager to which again they blamed me, told me they’d give me $50 back, and there was nothing more they can do. This place is a scam.
This is one of the best spas in NYC. A very elegant layout with steam room with jasmine and eucalyptus oils, sauna made of large rounded river rocks kept at 168*F, hot tub with varying intensities of bubble jets, and cold (very cold) plunge pool on the bottom floor. This level is 2 stories under the busy manhattan streets and really feels like an escape, also on this level is "the water lounge" a restful array of chairs and chaise lounges surrounding an indoor waterfall from the street level where you can relax and listen to the babble of the falling water. The locker rooms are very well kept and have restrooms, showers, lockers, and a well stocked sink area (soaps, moisturizer, cotton swabs, etc...). Lush robes, towels an slippers are provided in the locker room too. I went most recently for a couples massage and the experience couldn't have been better. We came a few hours early and decompressed for a while in the water lounge and steam room. The couples massage room is huge and smelled great. My masseuse took my direction perfectly and really worked the aches and pains I described to her and tailored the treatment to my needs (I'm an athlete with many intricate muscular and skeletal issues). My partner, also an athlete, had an entirely different set of instructions for her masseuse who also took the direction to heart and performed a wonderful deep tissue massage. After the massage we went back to the lounge and spent some more time in the sauna and steam rooms which was a great way to extend the feeling of the escape. I really can't recommend this spa highly enough. A wonderful and attentive staff, a great facility, a flexible schedule, and above all fantastic practitioners. Thank you!
Overall I enjoyed my experience at Great Jones Spa. On Sunday 3 April 2022, I booked a Swedish massage for 60mins and access to the facilities for 3hrs total. The masseuse I had was very experienced and did a great job, especially focussing on my shoulders and calves. The spa itself is clean and the jacuzzi can easily hold up to 10 people. The steam and sauna rooms do exactly what they’re supposed to do and free snacks are available. I really like the endless supply of towels and water, without having to ask anyone. The only letdown was the reception staff. Being British, I can understand my accent can be ‘confusing’ for some, however having a spa in Manhattan then staff should be used to hearing all kinds of accents. The receptionist seemed genuinely confused on how to check out myself and a family member. Repetition of questions would’ve seemed pointless, if she had been paying more attention. Additionally, I wasn’t impressed that the second receptionist ordered McDonald’s and Uber Eats dropped off the food at the front of the spa! I’m not here to lecture about what food to eat, but surely the food could have been dropped off around the back or at a side door? She mumbled some kind of apology before her colleague finally finished charging our treatments and then referred to two women as ‘girls’ when saying goodbye. I do think your front of house staff need further training about customer service and realising working in Manhattan you will meet all kinds of people fro across the world!
It’s a pretty big space in a crowded part of the city, clean and usually not too busy. However, my experience here wasn’t pleasant because it wasn’t worth it. I won’t be going again. I’ve been to very high-end spas around the world and been to the quick and to the point Chinese spots too, so I know what to expect from where.. this one had not so friendly + professional staff. The people at the front desk are rude and not very hospitable. The massage was very average; the masseuse spoke a lot for a relaxing massage and the result of the message wasn’t that good. Didn’t hurt but didn’t feel different afterwards. The woman who did my facial did the opposite, said nothing even though you need to tell the customer what steps you’re doing, what products you’re using and etc. some steps were painful and she proceeded with them without any warning. Again, the facial lady wasn’t hospitable. I felt they’re doing me a favor instead of feeling welcomed even though I spent 400$ for just 60 min basic massage and basic facial. Few other points.. Steam-room and other amenities are basic, no salt pool or any additions that you find in some spas. The common area is mixed. They give you disposable swimsuit if you forgot yours. You also get a locker with slippers and plastic bag inside. The snacks options in the lounge area by the pool is very limited and below average for a place that tries to be in a certain scale, basically not a St. Regis expectation, but the prices aren’t kinda the same.
The worst experience I ever had, if there was a way to give 0 stars I would. When I first walked into the locker room a cleaning lady was trying to open a locker that was locked, soon as she saw us she quickly pretended to pick up a towel. She stood there the whole time staring at us while we undress. That made me feel very uncomfortable. In the pool area we were sitting on chairs and a male employee started to clean/brush the walls right next to us so the sounds of brushing was totally unpleasant. Another lady was cleaning the other side of the wall as well, it is called a spa but sounds more like a construction site. We complained to the front desk and nothing was done. Then another employee follow us into the locker room and stood there until we left. The Brazilian wax was awful seems like the lady never did it before or she just don't know the process. She left me with hair and wax all over. I was told that it didn't matter if I get the wax before or after going to the pool, so I got the wax done first after that I was told I cannot go into the pool because I got the wax done. I was only able to sit on a chair the whole time. My pedicure was awful too, my 5 year old daughter does a better job. Don't waste your money on child like work that is supposedly done by professionals. Oh I almost forgot to mention one of the most disturbing thing happened the lady finished my wax and says "It just like a little girl" who in there right mind would want to hear that.
My sister and I went to Great Jones for a weekend away while we were visiting the city. Easy to say I will never be visiting again or recommending this place. I had a truly awful experience, the services are lovely but don't attempt to use any common space to relax as it is more like a water park than a spa. My sister and I were displeased and it was a poor way to end our experience but the worst part came after. When leaving a tip at the end of my service they accidentally place 50% of my order totally on the card instead of $50. I completely understand that mistakes happen but unfortunately, nobody at the store at that time knew how to refund so I left my information and was told I would hear back by the end of the day. This was when the wild goose chase really happened, I felt truly stalker-like have to call and call every day for FIVE DAYS to try to get an answer from someone on the state of my refund. Finally today I got the manager on the phone expecting nothing more than a refund of the overpaid amount and an apology. I got a refund but no apology or kindness from the manager. Instead, I got excuse after excuse and he complained to me that he had to call the customer service line of his system to figure out how to process a refund. Truly disappointed with my waterpark, I mean spa experience.
If you want the worst experience of your life, then come on down to Great Jones Spa! During business hours, your phone calls are greeted by 5 minutes of constant ringing only to be told you cant even leave a voicemail. Want to cancel or reschedule your appointment? Well you're in the right place! No one will get back to you and when you arrive for your appointment they'll tell you that they already cancelled it. Not like the consumers deserve to know before they make the trip anyway, am I right? So now you want to have the situation rectified because having your time and money wasted isn't good business, well you can send an email to them! They'll respond to your email swiftly, a day later, with a response that clearly shows that they didn't even read it! No one to answers the phones and no one to handle customer service? No problem! In all seriousness, this place is horribly run and staffed. You'd be better off going literally anywhere else. You can get massages elsewhere for a third of the price and they'll actually answer your phone calls and emails. I pity anyone who puts up with the low level of care and diligence that this train wreck of an establishment provides.
DO NOT GET FACIALS HERE!!! I went as a treat for myself a few weeks ago and my skin is STILL SO MESSED UP. I’ve gotten many MANY facials before and this has BY FAR been the worse. I am also ALLERGIC to beeswax and told the girl at the beginning of my session. MIND YOU they do not. Ask for any intake form or anything beforehand so the aesthetician is literally going off of how your skin looks. I was never asked what concerns I wanted to address, any medication I could be taking ETC. after I told the girl I was allergic to beeswax she brushed it off and said none of the products have beesewax. I trusted her. Then when I am leaving I asked her if she had any product recommendations for me. She ends up recommending the spot treatment that she put on my face at the end of my session. I took a picture of it so I could remember and I look it up the next day and it HAS BEESWAX IN IT!!!! NOW MY SKIN HAS BEEN ABSOLUTELY AWFUL THE PAST MONTH AND A HALF. I would not go here for a facial ever again. Especially people with skin sensitivity and allergies they obviously do not CARE!
My husband and I had an impromptu spa day at Great Jones Spa. We spend around $55 each for 3 hours use of the water lounge. Had a perfectly nice time without spending too much. Facilities are nice and clean, towels are fresh. They offer you robes and slippers too. Employees are diligent about cleaning up and refreshing supplies. The water lounge has a smallish but pretty hot tub, and a 2 person ice bath, dry and wet sauna as well as a comfy lounge spot with magazines and chairs. This is all in the lower floor of the building so it's not big but the space is nice and the high ceiling gives it the illusion of a larger space. We went Saturday night around 6pm and it was not crowded but pleasantly full of other people. Dressing rooms have showers with shanpoo etc. They also offer lotion, hair product, shaving needs, and blow dryers. It's a trendy area so going out for drinks is pretty typical of the spa goers. Overall very pleased and will probably go again. Only comment was that I wish they had a little more space but in NYC that's pretty much the norm.
I haven't yet enjoyed a massage at Great Jones but i have enjoyed the water lounge. It's small but peaceful warm and elegant. I've read the reviews before posting and i disagree with the negative ones. Honestly people... certain places or settings just aren't for everyone. yes it's small but it's lovely. It's refreshing and clean, richly scented of eucalyptice upon entry. lots of products for sale and high grade long lasting candles which i love! It's a nice place to enjoy girl time with your friends. staff is super friendly and efficient. There's lockers with robes slippers and towel, lots of amenities within the locker room. The attendants are always tasking and never in your way. Cell phones are not to be taken out in the locker rooms for secured privacy of the changing woman. But, soo what if there's cell use in the lounge and photos taken people love to show off a good time jeez! No, i wouldn't want to be here if the lounge is full; however, when its not i tell you its a time well spent you leave feeling relaxed & brand new! Try it girls!
Expensive Bathing Suit Vanishes Bizarre...I have been going for years every blue moon -- not a lot but I always loved Great Jones spa but now there is something very, very wrong there. If you want to relax by the jacuzzi and waterfall expect to see hard working individuals coming and going -- constant stream -- another wards not so peaceful and what is interesting is so many employees that even in the locker room you are never alone. There are two showers in the woman's locker room and only took hooks. I put my bathing suit up there and left it so the locker room attendant admitted she took it and put in a plastic bag and for some reason she left it on a bench. The bathing suit was mostly likely stolen -- very creepy. Also the massage had the worst music and I was told there was no other option so I asked for no music. There is something very very wrong with the Great Jones and after so many years of thinking it was great I won't be going back. I can't recommend Great Jones.
Went here with two friends as a treat, and we had the best day. Booking was very easy to coordinate a group getting treatments done at the same time (love that!). Upon arrival we were greeted and shown the facilities. We came about 2 hours in advance of our treatments so we could enjoy the water lounge. It was quite clean, and we enjoyed moving from sauna, to steam room, to hot tub, to ice bath! Other spa goers were nice and mostly polite (generally we stayed out of other groups way). For my treatment I got the coconut body scrub - was SO good, i left feeling like a newborn baby and smelling delicious. Fernando did my treatment and he was very nice and explained everything before getting started, which I appreiciated. My friends got a facial and a deep tissue massage and they both said they enjoyed their treatments too. I think this is a really great place to relax and enjoy the amenities and I felt the pricepoint was very fair! Will definitely be back
This was a great spot ! My husband and I love sauna and this was a part of their pool lounge pass . I felt the price was really great for the pass and that we got really nice treatment while there. The place is clean .. and I am very particular with this kind of thing. The steam room with eucalyptus was relaxing , the locker set up was thoughtful with the robe and sandals ( while you are given a standard size shoe, you can exchange them for a size up or down — just ask the attendant ) . They had little snacks and beverages to stay hydrated and the electrolytes up . We came just after opening time on a Sunday and it was not too busy. Had enough room to move around and not feel crowded . The location is lovely and after we sweated out the alcohol in the sauna from the night before , we were in a good neighborhood to get some food and drinks afterwards. I would come back if ever In this part of town again. We just felt so relaxed
I was not impressed with my experience at Great Jones. This was my second time here, and it was very much a let down from my first time there. Last year when I went for the first time, someone came to the pool area/sauna to retrieve myself and my guest for our massages while we were able to enjoy the amenities without worrying about what time it was. This time around, I was not informed that no one would come for us and we had to go to the second floor to meet our masseuses. That ended up knocking time off of our massages. Not only that, but the masseuses for myself and my guest were unimpressive. I’m not sure I will return as my money went to waste this time around. The spa all around is clean and very nice in appearance. My favorite area is the steam room. My least favorite area is the pool area because it is quite small, which can make you feel like you’re on top of other guests and don’t have much privacy or space.
If I could give 0 stars I would. It was just awful. This was supposed to be a present for my boyfriends birthday and for 55$ I was expecting much more! I could have had the same spa experience in my bathtub at home. The water lounge is tiny, the cold water plunge is not even cold and there is almost no space to lay down and relax after. Everyone is talking and the atmosphere was not relaxing at all. The steam room has Christmas lights in the ceiling which is advertised as a stimulating chakra steam room. The staff at the reception was very unfriendly and did not even say goodbye to us though the staff working in the water lounge was very efficient and friendly. The water in the spa pool was very dirty and we did not even stay the 3 hours we paid for. I wish we could get our money back cause this was definitely not worth it and just a ripoff!
This place is just okay, I really don’t understand any of the hype that it’s received on the internet. Certainly does not belong on any “best spas of NYC” list and will be sure to let down after expecting a place that does belong on that list. It’s a shame that we are so used to sacrificing quality for convenience in Manhattan but this well located spa was not worth the price. The place is old, crowded even during off hours, only has 1 hot tub (which can only fit about 6 people) and has no quiet or relaxing area. The “three story waterfall” is merely a wall sculpture of trickling water that can barely be heard over the roaring chatter of groups of friends and loud tourists in this triple height echo-chamber. All of that being said, my massage was great, shout-out to Nick for the wonderful deep tissue treatment.
I planned a group get together for the girls and I at the spa this past weekend! From the group booking representative, Carlos, to the staff at the front desk to all of our incredible therapists, everything met and exceeded our expectations! The facility is incredibly large, beautiful, relaxing, and very clean. The locker room was constantly staffed with two staff members who assisted with anything and everything. The large space made it feel very spacious and allowed for groups of spa-goers to enjoy their time without being too close together. The Covid protocols in place were great, as clients could remove their masks inside the spa, after providing their vaccination card. The therapists were knowledgeable and professional. It was a wonderful time and we look forward to going back again!
I booked my husband a massage for his birthday and of course booked myself one. Jacob was extremely professional and highly skillful. I have problems with restricted movement in my shoulders and spine. Jacob really opened up my range of movement and was very impressed. My husband thought it was one of the best massages he'd had and that is high praise indeed. It's like hitting gold finding a practitioner of this quality, planning on booking every month as part of self-care and improving my range of movement. The staff at the spa were extremely helpful and the facilities were good but not exceptional. It's a bonus to have use of the facilities as part of the massage so nice to relax, drink tea (or bubbles) after an amazing massage. Highly recommend Jacob and to enjoy the facilities.
I love this spa. I regularly get deep tissue massages, which have always been excellent and very relaxing. The water lounge is a really lovely bonus but is usually quite full (and thus less relaxing) unless you go midweek and middle of the day. I don't typically use it, but that doesn't take away from the experience. I love the ambiance and the heated massage table. The prices are also very good for NYC. I recently got a facial for the first time with an aesthetician named Jacqueline and it was amazing! She was very knowledgeable and very kind. I initially booked a vitamin C facial but after evaluating my skin she recommended the Hyaluronic LED Light Therapy Facial instead. It was wonderful! My skin immediately looked rejuvenated. I will definitely book that facial again soon.
My girlfriend treated me to a Lemongrass and Mimosa Body scrub/massage package for 60 minutes and WOW that is the best body treatment I have got. We came here about an hour early just to enjoy the facility. There are a jacuzzi, cold pool, steam room and sauna all free to use if you buy a service here. If not, it is $50 for a 3hr pass. After we hung around in the lounge, I went into a private room for the glorious service. My masseuse, Rebecca is very friendly and very very good. She massaged the scrub deeply into my skin carefully and rinsed me off after all was done. It felt amazing! Then she massaged me with more lemongrass oil and I was so smooth and moisturized after the treatment! I would love to come back again for this super pampering experience!
Wish I had read most of these reviews before I asked for a gift certificate for my birthday to this place. Everyone who says that it is the opposite of relaxing is spot-on. The people who come here don't know how to behave in a spa-setting, and aren't guided by the staff to learn how. There were groups of people treating it like a pool party, not a spa. It did not feel special or rejuvenating at all. There were women taking selfies and Instagramming the spa (can we please not bring phones into this area?!?!?!). The conversations I overheard were some of the most vapid, idiotic ramblings I've ever heard coming out of peoples' mouths. I'm from LA originally, and I didn't even realize there were people like this in NYC.
Everything was very nice wonderful experience. The only thing I went with a friend and we compared our massages, we both got signature massages but we got different experiences. I enjoyed mine much more as my technician used more stones. I believe I enjoyed my massage more because he focus on my knots and really relaxed me. As my friend felt like it was very generic and minimal. I have had many massages in the past I definitely leave it is and the technician who is more educated in the body maybe do way better personalized massages versus someone I feel like a straight at school doing textbook massages that feel like you get nothing out of them. All and all an amazing spot though I will come back for sure!
This place is pathetic. My friend booked my facial at 7pm. She mentioned nothing of a cancellation fee. I called at 9am the next morning to cancel...they wanted to charge me 50 percent. I indicated that no one relayed this information. Also I spent 250 on a hydro- facial. They then tell me afterwards that I can not wash my face....so I could not use the water spa. I also have hot yoga tonight so this is a big waste of my money. I talked to the manager Carlos who just offered me a free water spa pass and told me it was on the website. Hint to manaement... train your employees properly and give the information when booking. The place is dirty as well. This is bar far the worst spa experience ever.
Very nice for Manhattan based spa. We just did the water lounge pass for $50 ish each for 3 hours. Nice jacuzzi pool, cold plunge pool, steam room and sauna. It isnt huge but was fine for a Sunday with about 10 - 15 others there while we were. Most chairs are plain plastic, not very comfy or relaxing, so not very spa-like. Lockers are handy using a code you set yourself, so no need to keep a wristband / key on you. Nice extras in the changing room in case you forget things like a comb or hair ties. Would definitely return, but you do get a lot more value for your money at the huge spa retreats in Queens/NJ - but if you don't want to travel and are Manhattan based this is a great option!
Had a wonderful time here, truly. Struggled about writing a review because I don’t want it to be harder to make an appointment, but I’ll live. I came with a friend. We got deep tissue massages and coconut pedicures. We booked our services 3 hours apart so we’d have two hours in the water lounge. After spending 5 hours there, I could not imagine a better day. Only thing that could have made it better would be if they had any food service, but they did have some free nuts and fruits in the lounge. I can imagine that if I only came for a basic mani pedi I’d be underwhelmed. As with all things in spas, the more money you spend the better your experience is. Will absolutely be back.
Really clean and good services. Only a few details, which could take it to the next level. Chair and recliner availability is not that great. That sauna door hinge was so squeaky, every time someone was getting in or out, it was messing with the peacefulness of the place. At one of the massage rooms, every few minutes, you could hear from behind the walls, some kind of machinery, like a water pump, going off for a few seconds, every few minutes, again messing with the whole tranquility experience. Lastly, the men's showers could use an upgrade. Every time someone flushed the toilet, the water was getting really hot momentarily.
It was my first time here I had aromatherapy massage and loved it!! They have access to facilities either before or after treatment: dry sauna, small hot tub, cold plunge pool, loungers and refreshments like water, nuts, fruit. The locker room had bathrobe, towels, slippers, hair comb, hair dryer, showers. The lockers get locked with combination code you set yourself. You have to bring proof of vaccine or wear mask on property. I made appointment online, the receptionist said if you want longer treatment 90 minutes or more, you have to call to set up appointment. Overall I had a great time here, I definitely recommend.
Long time ago I went to there for Thai massage. Receptionist told me to brought comfortable clothes to have Thai massage so I brought them and wear them and went to the massage room. I was already embarrassing because only I had my own gym kind clothes lol. Then at the room a guy showed up even I said I wanted a woman. Besides, I didn’t need my gym clothes.. I had to be naked anyway for oil massage that was not not not Thai massage that I wanted.. I don’t know why but I just remembered and got question mark about this experience so decided post it. That was very bad spa experience and never went back to any spa.
I have been here twice. The facilities are nice and relaxing and I think $79 is a good deal for a spa in Manhattan. However, on June 11 2023 I was here was with my mom and mother-in-law the day before my wedding. My mother-in-law contracted pseudomonas aeruginosa (hot tub folliculitis) from the spa. She has been in a lot of pain and fighting the infection for weeks. Their water is contaminated with bacteria and viruses. They need to drain the spa immediately and clean everything. Here are photos of us at the spa just to prove we were patrons in case the spa tries to dispute this review with google.
The Great Jones Spa does amazing things with a NYC space. How many places do you go to for a massage that has changing rooms, sauna, jacuzzi, cool water dip, and showers with all of the amenities? Essentially,I go there for an excellent massage and each time I am never disappointed. Everyone there is kind and helpful and I cannot think of one bad thing to say! One suggestion that I have is to add a tip or put out somewhere in the locker room a place to put a tip for the cleaning lady. I rate fair mindedness and certainly their hard work is as important as anyone else there.
Four of us went for the first time. The place is confusing to navigate for the first time. I’m in the service business myself and for 30 years I know how important customer service is. There should have been someone there to show us around. I spent time running up and down looking for assistance. It was awful. By the time I was ready for my massage I was through. The massage was nice but the first impression and service was unwelcoming. The only person who helped us was Ada in the changing room after 5 minutes of running around. Won’t be back. Shameful.
I’ve been to numerous spas in the city and Great Jones is by far the best. They have amazing facials and massages along with fairly priced products that are very high quality. The facility is extremely clean and very spacious for a spa in nyc (especially Manhattan). They have a budget friendly deal for all day use of the facilities which I use regularly (hot tub, dry sauna, wet sauna, cold bath, unlimited refreshments, snacks and towels!), and the service is always top notch and super friendly. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Was here on December 7th with my friend for 90 minute deep tissue massage and reflexology. The therapist did whatever she wanted. I got tired of saying "can you do deep tissue massage?" and gave up. She hardly used her hands and relied on her forearms. I sat there staring at the ceiling waiting for the time to be over. I spent $$$$ for a waste of time. When I told the receptionist about my experience, she kind of stared at me and didn't say anything. Definitely a most disappointing experience.
I had such a great time at Great Jones Spa for my birthday yesterday!!! The staff were kind and professional, the facilities were beautiful and immaculate, and the entire experience was soothing, elegant and perfect to unwind and dissu for a while. My massage therapist Diane was unbelievable. I got the hot towel lavender full body massage, and I can’t recommend it enough!!! My next massage appointment has already been booked Thank You so much Great Jones Spa!!!
I had a nice experience at the Great Jones Spa. The Thai massage that I booked was good but not amazing; I did however feel relaxed afterwards and my masseuse was very friendly. More than the massage, I really enjoyed the use of the facilities. They have a nice sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi. I also like that they have the option of bringing your own food in. I would definitely return for the use of the facilities but I probably would not go with the Thai massage again.
The worst experience ever, i was with my partner and it was a surprise for him so i did put as special request that i am going to be the one who going to pay and i don’t want my partner to know about the price, well certainly they didn’t do as I requested, we didn’t enjoy the pool at all! Because there just two small pools for crowd of people, they didn’t have even hot water in the ladies room!!!! I pay almost 400 for an experience that sorry but it wasn’t worth it.
Never again. It was filthy with dirty wet towels everywhere. Has a misunderstanding about time of a second service and on charging me a cancellation fee for that, they could not have been more arrogant. The front desk guy actually said they couldn’t care less about losing my future business since they are pretty fully booked, so customer service doesn’t matter to them. Wow. Ok. The facial was ok, but certainly not worth being treated so badly. Never again.
Wrong place to go if you want a couples massage! They let you book online for having the same room and the same service with a significant other, friend or whoever you'd like to get a massage with. However, when you get there that's not the case as they put you in different rooms and they act like you should've known. When I got there and was put in another room I then tried to cancel and they told me they would have to charge me still. Shame on them.
I went to Great jones spa for hydrafacial experience. I really love the set up and location of this place. Also, the staff at the front desk were very welcoming. Super convenient to visit in Soho area. My aesthetician was Kate. She is very professional, knows about the different types of skins and explains what will be the best treatment so well. I absolutely love my result after the hydrafacial. I will definitely be visiting here for more.
Not sure if they’re short staffed or have new therapists but I just received the worst massage I’ve ever experienced and I never thought I would ever say that. I’d give the review 1 star but I still love their facilities. I reserved a deep tissue and instead had oil applied to my body for an hour. Not even joking I was dripping with oil, it was even dripping from my face lol I can’t even make this up. Unfortunate because I loved this place
Having been coming here for several years, and it has always been exceptional. It can get crowded, but that's NYC. I was able to sit in the sauna and the hot pool today alone, but other times it has been crowded. This is not a problem if you are there for a treatment. The massage rooms are quiet and relaxing. Shower and locker room facilities are clean and tidy. Thank you to Claire for really getting my tight shoulders loosened up today!
I had a wonderful experience at Great Jones Spa! I booked a 60 minute Swedish Massage, and it was incredible. My masseuse Mileidy was so kind, and did a wonderful job! The water lounge was very relaxing, it was nice to have a cold pool, a hot tub, sauna and a steam room. My only complaint was that it was a bit small, and there were only 4 lounge chairs. I was never able to use a lounge chair, and it was a quiet Monday afternoon.
Just had a really good massage from a knowledgeable guy called Michael. Thanks! His service was great. As were the reception staff, welcoming and friendly. Didn't find the common parts relaxing however. Loads of young hipsters saying "oh my god" to each other, quite bustling and didn't feel very special. Would not put me off revisiting at all, but if this was a special treat luxury spa day maybe I would pick elsewhere.
Julia did highlights in my hair last Friday & I love it. I'm so glad that I found her, because I have not been this happy with a stylist in years. She has a great eye for color and really listens to you to figure out the best solution for you. Everything is organic so, the smell is nice and you don't have any regrets lurking around. Julia is fabulous and she had made me feel younger and prettier. Thanks, April
Went in for a massage. There was a little mixup with the reservation, was supposed to be a couples massage but was booked separately. The manager did a good job of making it right. Had the best massage I've ever had at a spa. I highly recommend Ian. The rest of the spa was a little small. The steam room was nice post massage. It was pretty good value for the cost. I'd definitely go back for another massage.
Really hit the spot and exactly what we needed to recharge the holiday batteries. Incredible massage but pricey for half hour at 110. Water lounge was refreshing and perfect with sauna steam cold plunge and hot tub but got crowded quickly after 3. Would give 5 stars had a giant cockroach not roam across the floor... I alerted an attendant who quickly squished it and kicked it aside.... so weird.
My friends gave me a gift card to use here so I wanted to get a nice mani-pedi. First; They didnt have any white color options which was weird to me. Also my nails looked no different than how they looked before I got the mani-pedi. Thank god I didnt pay anything because I had the gift card but normally it’s pricey! You can definitely do your nails better yourself for free.
THEY WILL STEAL YOUR FINE JEWELRY. BEWARE. Camille gave me a facial and removed my gold necklace and never gave it back. I have called countless times and have spoken to the manager Ginny Dean who each time I call acts like she doesn't remember what I'm talking about! And supposedly the general manager is aware! Yeah right. I'm filing a police report on this joint.
Me and my man enjoyed the hot tub and sauna areas before our hot stone massages. He also enjoyed the cold plunge pool, but that was not for me, LOL. There were lots of places to sit and lounge before and after our massages. Every space was clean and well-maintained including the locker rooms. Water and hot tea were available. Robes and slippers were provided.
My daughter took me there for a day-after Mother's Day surprise. The place is wonderful - three levels-- massage, water area (steam room, jacuzzi and cold plunge) with waterfalls and mani/pedi/facial area. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Because it was the day after Mother's Day, it was fairly empty, which was great for us. I can't wait to go back.
The pool/sauna area is so nice & relaxing to do before your treatments. I got an LED facial with Judy & she was wonderful & my skin looked amazing after. Even the women’s locker room attendant was wonderful, especially after I misunderstood the locker instructions & locked my stuff inside lol. Overall wonderful experience & a great getaway in the city
My new go to in Manhattan for massage or hot tub (also sauna and steam are ) Much more reasonable price than other nearby options. Towels, robes and slippers provided. Everything is clean and well kept. The will even give you a disposable bathing suit if you forget yours and a bag to take home wet stuff not to mention the unlimited tea and snacks!
My fiancée and I were so pleased after visiting this place - see Jacob for the best massage. The space is not as small as other reviews suggest... unless there’s another 50 people in the water lounge. Such a relaxing area with the pools, sauna and steam room - you go spend 2 hours there. Definitely recommend after a week navigating Manhattan by foot!
I had an amazing experience at Great Jones Spa earlier this month. I waited for my facial in the water lounge which was wonderfully relaxing. The facial treatment was wonderful and Kim made sure I had as much information as I needed. I finished off my stay with a smoothie from the cafe upstairs. Exactly what I needed in the middle of a hectic week.
Nice spa experience. I enjoyed the jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. The mani and pedi techs are personable and warm. I however didn't appreciate the staff coming to down to shush us, we weren't even noisy. If you want a quiet area then I suggest signs indicating that. It ruined the experience as if I was in school. That should not repeat itself.
Best massage I ever had. Not exaggerating. The staff was delightful and professional. My masseuse was obviously very well trained. It is the next day and things that have been bothering me for months feel unnoticeable today. Beautiful facilities as well. Will be going here from now on. Why this place doesn’t have a 4.5 or higher is beyond me.
Treated my Mom to a massage as a gift thus past weekend . She usually loves them. She said this was the worst massage ever. She didn't feel at all relaxed when done she was sore the following two days . She usually never wants it to end BUT this spa treatment actually hurt. Not relaxing and total waste of money she tols me . Don't go here !
This place is below average. The 60 minute tissue massage was good but everything else about this place needs a makeover. The locker rooms were worn down. The jacuzzi was barley warm and the cold pool was extremely small. I did enjoy the sauna but overall I wouldn’t pay to come here. Thank goodness someone gave us a gift card.
Not worth what I paid for Everything was nice and clean and smelled great. The massage was ok I relaxed. Even if I didn’t leave the generous tip I did, still overpriced. Water lounge is small and the surcharge for setting up a bottle and my little slice of cake. Not worth it at all. First and last time coming here
Nice spa with an option to relax for a couple of hours in the pool area before a massage. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Property is clean. The reason I took one star off is because the pool area is on a smaller side. We came on a weekday so it was fine but I fee like on weekends it can get pretty packed.
This place was disgusting. I came here with my wife and we both left itchy, wet, and appalled that a place like this could still even be open for business. Strongly suggest you go somewhere else. If I could give 0 stars I would. They DO NOT let you experience serenity with your significant other. 0 stars.
Went to get a deep tissue massage with a friend who recommended it. Every once in awhile it's nice to get it done. It was great, the first two minutes I heard a bunch of cracks, which I really needed, the rest was just icing on the cake! I left feeling recharged and ready to take on the day. Will be back!
It’s a great place for relaxation in the city. I booked massage and May was an exceptionally qualified masseuse. I sat in the sauna prior massage and after as well. I felt energized and revitalized. I also liked how quite was the place and people were friendly, with their minds turned towards relaxation.
I had a 90 minute (deep tissue) massage but in this case, the massage was missing the deep tissue. The therapist lacked the agility to perform the treatment. It ranked as one of the worst treatments to-date. On the way out, I asked to speak with a manager but no one came. Poor customer service.
Hello, This was my first time there I was really impress with the place during the week is less crowded... I enjoy my massage by Claire i felt so comfortable with her I even fell asleep She was gentle and kind. I would reccomend her to anyone!!! Thank you Claire. I will be back for sure!!!!
Today Karen gave me the best facial experience of my life. Thank you, Karen! We discussed my skin care needs and settled on the hydra facial, which was lovely but complimentary hot stone shoulder massage and the feet warmer made the experience extra special. I will certainly return.
I was here several times and can say that every massage I got here was very professional, comparing to other spas I've been. Plus they have steam room, sauna and pool which are included into massage price, and you can stay there as long as you want. Definitely recommend this spa.
My fiance and I got manicures for my birthday. His technician was awesome. She was detailed and doting. Now he got color and he is a perfectionest and was not thrilled with final results. While my technician was disengaged. I was her last client and she was ready to go.
Good massage but really bad customer experience. The personnel in the front desk very rude including the manager. If I’m willing to pay $200 for a massage, at least I expect to be treated nicely. Locker room was a bit old and not totally clean. Will never come back.
Such a wonderful experience! I will be back to see Jennifer who really listened to what I needed during my massage and took away so much tension and pain in my back. Left feeling so much better and refreshed. The sauna and cold plunge was an added bonus.
Really nice and clean spa in NYC. Staff is incredibly nice. The sauna is excellent. Loved all of the different pools, but they were kind of small. I got a mani/pedi and they didn't do the best job. But otherwise, it's one of the best spas in the city.
This is my go-to spa! I come here with a friend of mine a couple times of year and it always does the trick! I especially love their facials. Staff is friendly, love the sauna and steam room. I've never had a problem with booking or customer service.
I’ve been here twice already and absolutely love it! The massage therapists are amazing and both times I felt a deep relaxation and high that I rarely ever get. The pools and saunas are perfect for an after massage treat. It’s my new go to place!
This was my second experience at this spa for a Swedish massage. Adam is an absolute angel. He's so warm, and genuinely cares about his work and clients. It's very rare for me to feel safe and comfortable, and I can't wait to go back to see him.
Really bad customer service. On my birthday we had a reservation for 2 with my husband for spa and massage. I broke my leg, on my birthday. And while they agreed to move my appointment for free, they made my husband to pay to move his, as
Everything was great! Customer service was excellent. The massage was amazing and much needed. Although I didn't go into the pool or sauna I did sit back and relaxed just before getting my massage. I'm looking forward to returning.
This venue is so calming and the staff is great. Highly recommend booking Anthony for deep tissue / sports massage! Prices are similar to my fave spas in NYC, and the sauna/steam room + pool area is a great added bonus.
Don't go here if you are queer especially if you are trans. I was treated horribly by one of the employees. Overall not a safe or comfortable experience here especially for the price and being in New York.
Professional and non obnoxious employees behind the desk. Prices are reasonable, given the high end demographic. Can't comment on the services however, as I simply entered to obtain a gift certificate.
My wife and I received massages and we both enjoyed the deep tissue massage. Remember to bring a bathing suit so you can partake in the other amenities (they do have one time use suits if you forget).
Fantastic massage and love the water spa. They kept refilling the hot tub with cold water though and then we would have to wait forever for it to warm up. Seems like there should be a better system.
My Wife and I attended this Spa for our anniversary and this place did not disappoint. Awesome small spot, not too crowded, amazing hot stone massages, and pleasant staff. Definitely would go again.
I loved it! Had a great massage with Adam. Great water lounge area with steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, and showers. It’s a fun place to go with friends and the massages are actually incredible.
We were a little nervous about going here because of the reviews. Overall the facilities were good so was the massage. No frills, but it definitely did the job. I would definitely return.
small spa that does the trick. sauna and steam room were very hot. hot tub not so much. people were friendly. if you have no suit, there are disposables for men and women. light snacks.
I have been to Great Jones Spa twice now. The first time for a deep tissue massage, which was one of the best I have ever had. I was so relaxed and felt looked after by the therapist.
I had a deep tissue massage, which was pretty bad. I would not go back. Too many other much better spa’s In NYC. Also the locker rooms are old and dirty with poor facilities.
I was there for a 60 minute massage and my masseur Mark was excellent. I have asked to have Mark’s name notes with my account as I will definitely request him the next time.
I got a massage and my friend got a facial... Both were amazing by very experienced technicians. Spa was spotless and had wonderful energy. We will definitely be back!
Basically the YMCA with massages. Way too crowded for the space, everyone bumping into each other and loud. Far too expensive for a pedestrian experience at best.
One of the best spa experiences I've ever had. The ambiance is incredible! Plus, the amenities are beautiful and relaxing. I can't wait to bring my girl here!!!
one of the best (if not THE best) in the city. the spa time (sauna, whirlpool and plunge pool) before and after the massage is well worth the extra time!
Nice facilities and great massage. It's the place to go and unwind in Manhattan for a couple of ours. My wife and I felt great for days afterwards.
What a interesting place this is! Very friendly and caring staff, hot sauna and not overcrowded - maybe bc its 70$, maybe bc its a hidden gem …
Been coming here for years. Massage therapists are some of the best in the world. Facilities are clean and relaxing. A great escape from the city.
Massages were good. It's nice to have a spa retreat in the city, but I'm not sure we would go back. For the prices, you can probably do better.
My husband and I went for a spa day on a Thursday afternoon. His massage was ok, I had an amazing facial by Judy. Overall it was underwhelming.
The waterfall feature was amazing and such a relaxing atmosphere. Their signature facial with deep enzyme cleaning upgrade was life-changing!
