No matter where you start or finish, this is spectacular walk along the Nepean River! Highlights are the Yandhai crossing and M4 bridges where you get an uninterrupted view of our beautiful river and surrounds. You can take the easy, well paved, pretty smooth concrete pathway, run, walk, cycle, skate, skateboard, wheelchair or jog 5.5 kilometres round trip, or you can divert to the lower dirt path on the western or Emu Plains side and get a bit closer to nature and further away from the crowds & traffic but watch out for water dragons and off leash dogs!! Check out Emu Hall, the Log Cabin at the Northern End or the myriad of eateries and cafes on the south eastern side then walk it off!! Check out the spectacular houses along River Road o just take in the atmosphere as you walk along - fresh air, beautiful trees and soon there will be major improvements to Tench Reserve which will be awesome!! This is a must do activity in Penrith!! Don’t miss it!!
Peaceful relaxing quiet nature walk with easy trekking grounds ..footpaths directing the direction of the walk.. this nature reserve is frequented by locals... & rowing club members as the Nepean rowing club is right next to the car park you can get cafe style meals there with great views as it over looks the Nepean River... This is great place for bird watching as we found many native birds here on the walk.. surrounded by silence & bird calls especially the New Zealand bell bird call.. along the walk you can read up on historical inscriptions at certain parts of the walk very informative in regards to how the Nepean River was founded & occurrences of historical flooding events... nice to bring a friend to enjoy a picnic or cup of coffee here.. car park available but grounds close at sunset.. lovely scenic walk especially at sunset with the sun reflecting off the water creating a great setting for nature photography..
An easy 7 plus K walk and one has the choice of walking road or river side personally I walk river side.Sometimes you may see waterdragons sunning themselves .And during Covid walking is directional but so many people choose to ignore this even though there are signs anyway one can also walk in the other direction and walk to the Penrith Weir which if the river is low and bridge accessible you can continue to the back of Castlereagh Road factories The only drawback is you return the same way The River walk is circular and to me the best time to go is weekdays less people There are a few eatery / coffee options on walk Emu Hall,Coffee club to name a few
For people living near the area, this place might not be as striking as it was to me. But man, I love this place a lot. Even though it’s just a simple river with a big bridge on top of it, this place just gives me a different feeling. This river is quite long and has tons of things to see. Multiple birds of various kinds are flocking in the area which might surprise you. The weir might be small but it gave me a wow feeling. Parking in this place is very easy and directly beside the place. There are also a good coffee shop and rowing club nearby. Overall, a solid 5/5, a breathtaking place with tons of things you can check and visit.
Nice quiet place to get in touch with nature without leaving civilization. Enjoy different aspects of a river in a short 1,or 2 km walk: gently flowing, a weir then contributing stream deltas. Good fishing spot Great place for weddings (see local council, though) with Japanese pagodas and contemplative garden As well as several picnicking fields and comprehensive open plan toilet facilities
Yes it is a great place to go as specially after the floods it has cleaned all the river up there a nice places around to have coffee ☕️ and picnic lunch areas and bistros and there will be a kids playground park for the family as well it will be billet by the end of the year yes come to Penrith and the Napean River today you will love ❤️ it .
Great Wheelchair-accessible destination but only via the Yandhai Bridge. The Nepean River M4 Bridge approaches are not wheelchair accessible therefore the entire walk is not able to be accessed.

They don't call it the Great river walk for nothing , a very pleasant and even challenging walk , beautiful scenery, cool cafes , and now with a good , safe pedestrian bridge. Just a great couple of hours besided the river but do the more scenic lower shady part of the walk.
Very nice place for a stroll along the banks of the river , or a walk with a a friend or family . The walkway is fairly well maintained , has a few slight hills and lots of shady sections along the way . There are information boards along
Family and dog friendly Good to visit over the weekend. Facilities are well maintained. The dam view is good, however didn’t find the track for hiking - probably I got the wrong way. It is more like a park.

A very nice walk with some very nice views along the water. A lot of fishing going on along the banks of the river. Some birds and ducks on the water and some lizards moving in the bushes too. It was a nice walk. I enjoyed it.

Grate place for family picnic. Nice walking track along the river. Fishing, cycling. rowing. Sometimes gets really crowded. Only one toilet up on the hill.
Very tranquil... watching the sunset assassin's all the trees as you walk...a few too many people which ruins it a bit but other than that it's awesome
A perfect view of Nepean river and the blue mountains on a fine day. Bridge to bridge walk, parks food and drinks as a reward for all that exercise
Great Place for an evening Walk. Great Sunset View with an outstanding view of the bridge. Suitable for family picnic as well. just Wonderful.
A walk you must take. I am sure you will cherish each step of it. Additionally, the evening at Emu hall adds a great essence to the trip.
Hi . We completed 6,4 km Bridge-Bridge Loop today. It was great!!! We saw many water dragons, nice birds. Beware snakes in the area !!!
