Showed up to make sure I was okay after getting a bad reaction from AstraZeneca. I showed up and told them I was coughing because my chest felt tight and that I was concerned I had a clot. They threw me into the "Covid section" of their waiting room with other patients who had respiratory distress! I came here to make sure I was being pro active with my health and instead of getting peace of mind I was treated like a Covid patient. I asked if I could go outside so I wouldn't catch anything but was not allowed. (If restaurants can have beepers hospitals should have them too during a respiratory pandemic!) Was thrown into a room for 7+ hours while getting blood tests, lung x rays, and a Covid test. The room had dead horsefly mosquitoes smeared on the wall and the paint was peeling and bubbling off like there was major water damage. They threw me into a room on the Covid side that had a soiled laundry hamper for the gowns they switched out of often. The bin was empty when I got in there and was overflowing by the time I left. 6+ hours breathing dirty possibly Covid contaminated gowns!!! No one came to tell me anything....left me waiting for hours in an eerily quiet wing if the hospital. One nurse who took my Covid test noticed my swollen injection site and it felt hot so she said it was infected. That got me anxious only to be told by the dr it was a perfectly normal reaction. Gee... shouldn't a nurse in the "Covid" section know about vaccine reactions. Finally by 6:30 I told them I had to go because I had been there since 11am and felt faint (I have low blood pressure.) They couldn't tell me when the dr was going to come and see me to discuss results so the nurse said if I was going to leave that I had to sign a paper saying I left against the advice of the medical staff. I asked if I could be called with results because I felt weak and she said no. She said I wasn't going to pass out and that if I left I had to write my name down so that if I died from anything that showed up in my results without my knowing they wouldn't be held legally responsible. Stayed for results. Nothing showed up so dr says they are convinced I have Covid. Unless I caught Covid at Northlands getting my Astrazeneca that doesn't seem likely. I never leave the house and we take MEGA precautions. I will update with results. Went for peace of mind that I wasn't having a bad reaction to the vaccine only now to be TERRIFIED I caught Covid from the Grey Nuns Hospital!!!! (Was told by dr that if I got reactions to my 2nd dose to come back. Why would I? To get thrown in with potential Covid patients and risk my life?! I will take my chances with the vaccine thanks! Another woman came in after me with vaccine reaction concerns but she was put on the "safe side" of the waiting room merely because her reaction didn't include anything respiratory related.) Grey Nuns maternity ward is awesome but I will NEVER come back to emergency! Grey Nuns has had Covid outbreaks multiple times and I wouldn't be surprised to hear it's from the incompetency of the emergency room. I know all the drs and nurses are stressed and overworked but this was just a dangerous visit overall. Now I know if I get an adverse reaction to the 2nd dose to either go to the UofA Hospital or simply take my chances at home and pray my body is able to fight everything it needs to. *Thursday.....no update on Covid test from them. 4+ days later when I was told 2 days. Feeling a bit better but still trouble breathing. Just weak. I have read Astrazeneca reports that it makes you feel faintish which is how I feel. Finding out that the woman who died of a blood clot was originally turned away from Grey Nuns Emergency is not surprising. It's day 8 from the day I got AZ and I'm considering going to another hospital for re-evaluation because my chest is still tight but after the "care" I received at Grey Nuns I'm terrified of going anywhere! Let's hope I'm not the next person to be heard on the news. *Friday AHS called and surprise....no Covid....LIKEI TOLD YOU.
I had my first baby here earlier this year. When we arrived we were given a private room quickly. I had mentally and physically prepared for the most natural birth possible and when I was asked by the first nurse what I wanted for pain medication and I said nothing, she had a very condescending attitude. (I birthed unmedicated and it was amazing, would do again! The female body is more than capable.) The rest of the labor and delivery nurses were lovely. I was left alone to labor for several hours and was not pressured to have any cervical checks or fetal monitoring which was awesome. When I could feel my baby coming the nurses came in to help. I asked for the birthing bar to help me feel more comfortable, and they gave it to me. I felt so good and confident that I could birth like this and was excited to meet my baby in a matter on minutes. But I had one contraction in that position and they forced me on my back because they could see the baby crowning. I was far too exhausted to argue them on it but this is 2021... we seriously still force women to birth on their backs and not how they feel comfortable? By this time all the medical staff was in the room. I was then pressured to push harder, faster, and was told I wasn't doing it right, all because there was an "emergency" next door. If I would've been allowed to birth with gravity and not against my baby would've been out so much faster. I know this because I could feel it and I knew what my body was doing. I was very disappointed that I was just at the mercy of the procedure of the hospital. Every birth is different and it makes no physiological sense to push all births through the same procedure. I realize this is a flaw of the medical system as a whole and will consider other non-hospital options for my next baby. There were some lovely nurses on the postpartum ward too but altogether this ward was lacking. I had to ask several times for things and they were just disorganized.
I supposed to submit the survey to the OB nursing station but I missed it. I just want to express my gratitude towards the best nurses In Grey Nuns especially (in order): 1. Brenda - she's the most caring nurse of all treating our baby liker hers. She's very compassionate. 2. Amy - The nicest and most patient nurse in our hospital stay. 3. Miranda - The fastest nurse that offers the most service but she has to slow down a little bit as she misses minor stuff. 4. Taylor - She always make an effort to help us despite she's struggling to do a certain task. 5. Janelle - she's very nice to us and our little baby. 6. LINDSAY - YES LINDSAY, the worst nurse in EDMONTON and not even close with the nurses above. - She visits only 3-4 times during her morning shift during our first 24-stay in the OB room. - She does not give us a heads up after her visit that she will come back or not. She just left the room and that's it. - We press the red call button for help and completely ignored it and she arrived after an hour and did not bother to apologize. - We asked an ice and glass of water and she did not HELP AT ALL. - DID NOT BATH OUR BABY which is her task that day. - No instruction at all for proper latching and breastfeeding. - Just stay for less than a minute to check the baby and the mother and there's zero compassion at all. - She told us to read the booklet and she will come back should we have questions she did not come back. - A nurse who's not happy to work. - A nurse who's not happy to help. - A nurse without a heart to take care of patients. Training might help but her behavior will take time (maybe years) to correct. - Sorry, she's extremely lazy and I AM A NURSE as well and I believe she has tons of complaints. - She better change or else or her patients will increase the risk of post-partum blues/depression. PLEASE SHARE AND SPREAD AWARENESS
I wrote a review before. But after last week I wanted to write a new one. Firstly, almost all my experiences here were bad. But however last Thursday at 7 am. I actually had a very good experience. To the triage nurse. I believe blonde and one black hair older ladies, you were amazing. Thank you for showing me such understanding and compassion when I was in pain and not shrugging it off. And for pushing my file ahead because you knew the pain I had was unbearable. Thank you to the nurse who was assigned to me in the room who gave me the pain meds and letting me vent to you on why I’m so cautious about “newer” meds that I’m not familiar with and showing compassion. Here’s where some of my problems are The nurse with the glasses who is younger who gave me major attitude because you said I was text and then you gave 4 other people a room 5 minutes later and I said, you said I was next. And gave me a rude response. Get some bedside manners. Did nursing school not teach you that? I also was really confused why the dr would take me to the ambulance loading area for consultation and then send me back in the waiting room to wait for a bed? Should it not be wait for a bed then see a doctor. A place where I can lay down and you can do a proper exam Why would you take blood in the waiting room? Why would you not wait until I’m in my hospital bed or room to take the blood? I was in my patient room for 3 hrs could have taken it then. It just doesn’t seem super sanitary. Also as much as the dr did his best he was a little stand offish. He did his job. But very black and white and straight to the point. Not very chummy. I get it you’re tired. Which I understand. But trying to sound compassionate or friendly helps ease patients trust. All in all. It was a better experience than previous times.
Labour & Delivery - I had to be induced with my third kid, from the moment I walked in Unit #31 and left was such an PLEASANT experience. - The Nurses (especially Jacey & Anastasia) were absolutely wonderful. I knew everything that was happening and going to happen. They answered all my questions and made me feel so comfortable that I would even insist their opinion on certain areas of my delivery. - Anastasia (RNA) actually shortened her break, so she wouldn’t miss assisting the DR in delivering my baby boy. Such a sweet individual inside and out. **Postpartum - The RNA nurses are wonderful (Sophia, Lindsay & Rachel), very supportive and were there to help me during my 36 hour stay. Any questions or if I needed anything done, they were incredibly sweet about it. - HOUSEKEEPING in postpartum is absolutely DISGUSTING!!!! Even though I had a private room, it was NEVER cleaned during my stay. The housekeeper just came in to change the garbage and went away. If anyone has given vaginal birth you would know the amount you bleed out - and let’s just say I didn’t even want to use my private bathroom anymore. Dirt and hair follicles from previous stay were along the corners of the shower - it seemed like it was just sprayed down. It was just a complete mess and you would be appalled. Additionally, when you would page for water, one of the front desk staff would say “Use the TAP WATER in the bathroom” Are you kidding me!? I’m not even sharing a bathroom and am disgusted, you want me to use the water from there!? I politely said “the washroom has been cleaned in 36 hours and you want me to drink from it?” She then replied, ok I’ll get your nurse. The housekeeping is disgusting and definitely needs improvement.
Honestly, I have never really been to an emergency waiting until now. My mom doesn’t properly understand English so I decided to go with her so I could explain things in an uncomplicated way for her to understand. I thought people knew as much. Some people like my mom just need someone to be there, really believed it was common sense. There was no need for these triage workers to be humiliating us like that. Making faces when she doesn’t understand something and having an attitude of some sort like I truly do not understand what is going on in these places. I know some of these people work hard and you have to be immediate and straightforward and all that like I get that but aren’t hospitals supposed to be welcoming and suitable to everyone? Why treat people like that when we are going through stressful times? I know some patients that come there are rude to these workers as well, most of us understand that but regular people that come there like us who are just scared and seek help get the unnecessary thought of being unwanted there which is truly heartbreaking to me. Imagine being in a serious matter and someone is making fun of you for not understanding some things and genuinely not caring. Seriously like I am so disappointed at how these hospitals are working, I supported all these free healthcare and talked about it with people from different countries. It truly opened my eyes today, so never do I want to go back here or anywhere with similar situations. Anyways, to anyone reading this stay safe, you are loved by many, and you are wanted. I hope these similar situations don’t come your way. Have a blessed day!
The reason why this hospital has the shortest wait times of all the hospitals in Edmonton is because no one wants to go here! Go to the U of A and wait longer so you can actually get proper treatment. Do not go here. The triage nurses are horrible… came in with suspected acute appendicitis (was in emergency the day before and was sent to get an ultrasound, came back to emergency because radiologist told me I needed to go back as he believed I had appendicitis). Triage nurse was horribly rude, as soon as I came up to triage and began telling her I was here yesterday already and explaining what my health issues were she interrupted and said “so why are you here today”… while I was in the middle of telling her the history of why I am back again. She also told me that acute appendicitis is “not a medical emergency” and she has people actually dying. Not sure how appendicitis isn’t an emergency, and last time I checked those working triage are not doctors? I’d love to know where she got her medical degree. Ironic that she said i wasn’t a priority because less than 10 mins after I sat in waiting room a doctor brought me in and called a surgeon. Oh, and the day before they “misplaced” the requisition for me to get an ultrasound, and had I not advocated for my health and continued to call, I wouldn’t have been able to go for an ultrasound and wouldn’t have been able to get treatment. I’ve already began to file an official complaint with covenant health. When I was actually in the hospital though, the male nurse I had was amazing and the doctors and surgeons were very kind and compassionate.
Rude nurse, when I first arrived, no one offered a mask as I didn't bring my own, knowing all hospitals have a policy to give fresh new ones when walking in. No direction or help when asked where the elavators are. 1st nurse, I saw once in the day surgery ward, was not very directive. She acted as if I should know what to do and where to go as if I'm there every day. I think she didn't give me standard care as we have a mutual aquaintance. She was very forgetful and unattentive. She eventually passed me off to someone else and they treated me as a pincushion as they just started doing IVs for day surgeries and "are out of practice" according to their fellow nurses and doctors had mentioned to me. The surgery went very well over all Dr.Otto from Glen Sather Clinic was splendid and assured me everything would be ok, settling my nerves and answering all of my questions. He has a fantastic and calm precedence. The anesthesiologist Dr.Bucyk was very reassuring and informative her told me every step from the moment I get into the operating room. Very lovely treatment by my operating team all very welcoming and happy in the operating room as well. Compliments to the aftercare team as well. Not a terrible hospital, If you like people touting religion, when you're just there to have your surgery done. They recite prayers over the intercom, and some of the posters on the walls are offensive to those of us who aren't Catholic. I wish I had been at any other hospital in Edmonton or even Leduc with the same operating team. A choice I wish I knew I had when booking.
If possible I would give this hospital a 0. Have had 2 bad experiences here. Took my grandma (dads side) to their emergency. After waiting 8 hours she got told she is fine and nothing to worry about. 2 days later she’s still in pain called the ambulance they took her back to the same hospital. To find out she had a minor heart attack, her bowls where leaking in her organs hence the reason she was in pain. After they did the proper check ups and was supposed to be going into surgery she passes away in the icu. If they had taken care of her and looked at her the first day I took her there she would still be here. My other grandma (moms side) was taken to the same hospital by ambulance yesterday and after 10 hours she was told that she is good to go home. Only gave her an iv and a pill. Her ultrasound was done and they couldn’t see them properly so they said they will call again today to redo them. Got no call. She’s still in pain. The nurses there said the doctor was in to see her but no doctor came to tell her she was able to go home as they sucked at being a doctor. The nurse comes and yells at her as she’s still in the bed and to leave. When tried to tell her that the doctor never came she said I was lying and to leave before she calls security.
I was at Grey Nun’s Hospital for 2 weeks because of covid 1 week was in a coma in the ICU ward, and my only gripe with the hospital was that the staff where overworked, understaffed and looking after few dozen patients and some where working shift after shift. But other than that the staff were overall very understanding, helpful and kind there was the odd nurse that was taking their time but I never minded because I understood that there was covid restrictions and they had to do their job of wearing PPE. As for the the food from the time I started to regain my sense of taste and smell the food was a bit bland but filled you up until the next meal and I was even able to order take out when I was on my last couple days of Grey Nun’s Hospital. As for visitors they only allow a couple because of the restrictions so I’d advise using them for family members or close friends. Overall positive experience, the nurses are hard workers and very responsive when you press the cowbell for help and they move as fast as they can, as for the doctors they where very professional and even went out of their way to make sure you were comfortable some even had a sense of humour to boost moral. Keep doing gods work
The quality of the medical care that was provided was excellent. The personal well being was not taken into account at all. I have never come across such a large amount of miserable nurses like I have here! And they didn’t seem to care who knew or not. I was talked down to and treated as thou my intelligence had disappeared.I was in “Ward 43” palliative care. While there I threw my neck out making my bed after a nurse refused to make it. I was told I wasn’t supposed to make my bed but after a bout of the night sweats, the nurse just threw the sheets on the bed after the bottom sheet had been put on and walked out!! I ended up straining my neck so badly and I was in so much pain I had to be fitted with a neck brace. I’m still using the neck brace to this day. I’m concerned what kind of treatment I’ll receive if I have to go back the Grey Nun’s because the nurses whom I will not name and damage their record, but they will definitely recognize me. It’s unfortunate I and others were so abused and no one except other patients. This abusive treatment has to be looked into and has to stop. It’s sad.
Absolutely terrible place to go. I was sent in with a letter for having possible heart attack issues. I waited and hour in the triage line because the brunette nurse within glasses decided for every patient she saw she would take 20 minutes in between to talk to the younger blonde girl she was working with about her life and supper choices. I finally got to the window and handed her the letter to which I got “I don’t care about that you can give that to the doctor when you see him. You’re going to have at least a 7 hour wait.” I explained my history with my heart conditions just to be told “ well there’s not much i can do for you so either wait or go home” I ended up driving as far as I could to another emergency room and thankfully I did as I had a minor heart attack in my vehicle. I will update everyone when I put my lawsuit in court and have her as one of the ones I’m going after. Disgusting the way she treated me and everyone else that day and shouldn’t be working with the public. I’m not sure what you thought the position was going to be like when you took schooling and everything
Went there for gallbladder removal. Sadly I was still slightly loopy after the surgery, so I could not remember the names of the nurses, but I wanted to express my gratitude and genuine thank you to every single one staff member that I ended up in care of today. Everyone was absolutely amazing. The lovely nurses made me feel welcome and safe, making sure I had all I need, with absolutely no rush, being patient, understanding and caring. I am feeling overwhelmed with how much genuine care and attention I was provided before and after the surgery in the recovery room and in the waiting room later. I was monitored closely, and before going to the hospital I was incredibly nervous for it was my first ever surgery, and the one with general anaesthesia as well! I am so thrilled with how nice everyone is, and just sending a huge thank you to everyone today, I could not have wished for better care and treatment than what I got today, it was absolutely lovely. Thank you to every single person who made this experience painless and as little worrisome as possible. All the love <3
Emergency: *Extreme wait times despite online times *Unclean *Symptoms overlooked/dismissed *Packed waiting rooms * One triage nurse *Patients stand, not sit, at triage *Patients are told to go sit after triage only to be called to registration one minute later. Registration shouts out names from desk *Respiratory virus illness patients not separated from others in waiting area nor rooms *Patients lying on waiting room floor *Dirty washrooms with cold water *Minor injuries taking precedence over cardiology or stroke like symptoms *Some waiting 7 hours to see a Dr., let alone testing results etc *No pillows or blankets offered in rooms *Nurses talking loudly and constantly in hallways discussing patient status and room info; swearing; referring to some female patients as "chick" in their conversations *Patients left alone without attention/check-ins for hours at a time *Impatiently and cooly telling patients to go back to waiting room to wait for pickups immediately after discharge
**ATTENTION FIRST NATIONS MOTHERS** ❤️ November 2022 My baby was born at The Grey Nuns Hospital. As a First Nations woman, I heard so many horror stories of First Nations Woman being treated very poorly at other hospitals in Edmonton, Alberta. I was treated with love & compassion from the doctor's & nurses. The staff was super friendly towards me they helped me in any way they could. I really enjoyed the nurses there. I never experienced anything bad the whole time I was there, and I am so grateful for that. I had a wonderful birth with beautiful memories of the stay while I was there. I would like to thank the staff in the maternity level for taking such good care of my child and I. I recommend this hospital! They treat all walks of life with the love and compassion any human being deserves. May creator bless these beautiful women who helped deliver my baby. I hope your stay here will be just as good as mine.
I went into emergency in the morning of October 20th, the man checking me in gave me a hard time not having a family doctor, I have called at least 50. The nurse that I had was amazing, I'm sure she was running the show. I was there for severe pain in my hip , I was there for 11 hours, xrays were taken and since they didn't show anything they sent me home. I did get a note for missing work but the doctor wrote it wrong and instead of giving me 2 days off . He wrote it for a month off , so if I want to go back on Monday I need another note saying I can return to work. Then I go to get the pain meds, the pharmacy can't fill it as doctor wrote it on a paper and didn't write how much was prescribed so I'm in severe pain and I can't get my meds. I would give it a negative stars if I could. Worse experience with very rude people! Only the nurse was good.
If you value your life or that of your loved ones, please do not come to this emergency room. I have never seen a worse emergency room. I have been here since 6 pm in excruciating pain, it’s 2 am. And I was given a medication after some blood being drawn. I didn’t get a single physical, mind you I am a women bleeding and should be seen by someone from Gyne. I only saw the emergency doctor who popped in and out. The staff value their chitchat time with the EMS workers more than they do about the waiting room full of patients. I have never seen more incompetent nurses in my life. The reported wait times on the AHS website is also absolutely fraudulent. The average wait time in this hospital is 10 hours for those who stay and there are many who discharge themselves when they see the nonsense happening. Shame that this is where our tax dollars go.
Update: Came here on Feb 11/23 @ 6PM & couldn’t believe it. The wait time was suppose to be 3 hours it took more then that, after getting a room, all seemed well but when I was discussing my symptoms with the doctor he said all is good but that it could be a viral infection. Medicine wasn’t really given, then this morning got an ultrasound done but it took about 45 minutes to be sent back to my room, only to be told about five minutes after that I can go home and to follow up with my family doctor in a week. That wasn’t really helpful or reassuring. I understand that there is a need for beds and such but now our healthcare system just really sucks and is overwhelmed. I enjoyed the nice, friendly & helpful staff, the linens could be cleaned a bit better. Don't enjoy anything spilled on my blanket, but not a bad place not all
Hell no to this place. They don’t care even if a person is dying. After waiting for 4 hours in the emergency room, I asked the nurse how many patients are before me. She answered 9. After two hours, I asked again and she replied the same. My husband was not even able to digest water. He was standing at the first place in the waiting queue and the nurse completely ignored him for good 15 minutes. Then I asked the receptionist and told her to send us any help. I requested the nurse if they can help in anyway before we see the doctor. His reply was “I cannot help you in any way, We are not forcing you to come here”.I asked him your waiting time online is 2 hours. He said thats never correct. What is the point of showing online waiting times if they are never true? They really need to understand the meaning of emergency.
The worst hospital I have ever been to trying to get help with depression. It was a year ago in May when I was forced against my will to come to this hospital by paramedics. I told that I wanted to go to Leduc hospital. But they brought me there instead. Will thanks to them not only did I not get my anit depression pills. But I had to wait 5 hours to see a doctor. I was forced to stay in a white room with bars on the windows. A toilet in the room with no toilet paper and the camera was aiming right towards the toilet. I told the er Nurse that I was there just to get my pills and go. To sum it up not only did I not get my pills. But I had to deal with ignorant nurse's as well as an ignorant security guard. Never again will I ever go here. They make fun off people who have depression. And do not care about them at all.
Update: i had alarming results in labs i had to wait weeks for because this hospital turned me away. I am far behind the help i need now. If the doctor didnt tell me to go away i could have been treated sooner. Horrible service. Im in a lot of pain!! U shouldn't turn patients away I injured myself a few months ago. I have been trying to get seen for a while now. Ive come here a few times and no one will see me. Today the doctor told me "its been a few months so it isnt an emergency" and refused to help me. I cant walk. Ive never been turned away like that before. I sure hope its nothing i need surgery for. That doctor is a joke. Theres dozens of stories of people being turned away and it ended up being a blood clot or something very serious. It wasnt busy at all you could have seen me. Terrible horrible service
I really can't say enough good things about my experience here and the medical care that I received! From the moment I entered I was greeted with courtesy and professionalism. Once admitted I knew I was in good hands and received nothing but genuine compassionate care from all of the nurses and doctors who took care of me in the vascular surgery ward and radiology. Their positive attitudes and medical professionalism really assured me that I made the right choice when I travelled here to have a surgical procedure done. The doctors are patient and friendly and they take the time to answer your questions and really explain what will be happening each step of the way while the nurses are diligent, understanding, and very compassionate. I have no hesitations about returning here in the future should I need to.
Nurses here unprofessional, rude and condescending. My mom was in a room yesterday in the ER department when the beeping on her monitor was going off. I tried to tell one nurse to come check the monitor to which she responded in a agitated manner "yea her monitor is going off, I hear it" then after a good few minutes she came into the room abruptly, walked over the monitor to restart it and said "we have to prioritize things here and I can't even be in here without a gown" as a nurse you should not be telling patients about what & who gets prioritized especially when they are under stress and have gone through several tests. It was shocking and extremely disappointing to hear a professional to speak to a patient in such a demeanour. I'm not sure who reads these reviews but take the feedback seriously.
The medical has completely failed. Not failing, failed!! The nurses and staff just completely lie and say wait is 3 hours. There is people waiting over 24hrs. I have severe ulcerative colitis and I am in worst condition I have ever been. I am in a very serious condition right now and even I have to wait 20 hrs just to get told by a med student there is nothing wrong with me. My specialist is the only person I can trust and he absolutely swamped right now and takes up to a week to get to him. This the new reality in canada and there needs to be more discussion about this so it can be brought to light. I lm really scared and can't get help from our medical system and I can't afford to go the USA to get proper care. This our goverment at its finest.
I went in for this procedure with the intention of being at least partially sedated. I asked multiple staff, and multiple people whom I know who've had this procedure done and what to expect, and when I tell you I felt everything. I mean I felt everything. Not just some discomfort, but I legitimately felt every movement. I asked multiple times when the medication was going to kick in, I just got told to take a deep breath and that I was "doing great." I was the second last patient of the day and it showed. My procedure was way too fast, and by the time I felt any of the meds kick in, I was already in my friends car on my way home. This was absolutely traumatizing and I hope that you guys will take better care of your patients going forward.
Some of the rudest nurses I have ever seen work in this hospital. My mother asked a nurse about my medical condition and other details. The nurse came to my room with a sticky note of what they were testing for and told me(patient) to call my mother and tell her what they looking for. I don’t understand why she couldn’t tell my parents upfront and why she wanted me to do it. If I was in a coma, is that what she expects… me to call my mother and tell her what is wrong with me??? I saw a nurse raising her voice to a patient in this hospital as well.. not only are the nurses rude but this hospital is extremely disorganized… they had my test results done early but I had to notify a nurse twice for them to show it to me…
Was sent to emergency by my family physician. I waited six hours wasn’t one blood test or any test for that matter started in that six hour period. I told then at the triage desk when I was checking in that I was weak, dizzy, and very sick and that my blood results earlier that day were extremely concerning to my dr and that is why he sent me there. After the six hours I couldn’t sit up anymore because of the dizziness and weakness and came home. I called to let them know I had left and the triage nurse said thanks for the call and laughed as she hung up the phone. I would not recommend this hospital. I’ve never seen such disarray and unorganization in a hospital. Pray for our healthcare system.
Found out that my father was in the ER. He didn't have his cell phone on him and I couldn't reach him so I called the ER to see if I could get a hold of him. Was told he was in fact in the ER and when I asked if I could speak to him I was bluntly told "NO" then i proceeded to ask if she could relay the msg to him to say 'call his daughter' she said "NO". So I drove down to the ER to find out that, whomever that woman was, was indeed suppose to relay the msg or was suppose to let me speak to him. I called at 10:58pm on Thursday, March 9, 2023. Who ever that woman was is rude, insensitive, and has no humanity/kindness. Perhaps she should be working in a different field where she works with rocks.
Pathetic overall. Took 4 year old in with deep cuts to hand , gauze stuck in it, at 9am. Stood in triage line for over an hour (roughly 8 ppl ahead of us). At 12 asked where we were on the list roughly as they were taking in fully functional adults prior to All the children in the waiting room, was told 3rd on list. Triage nurse was rude, said she’d ask regarding if stitches and tetanus shot were needed as I could have him seen at walk in later, never got back to me by time we left at 3pm after asking again as more than a dozen others had went in, still 3rd on list. Couldn’t even get a drink of water as all vending machines were empty and told not to go out to vehicle as “your next”.
This hospital is very mediocre. The doctors are kind, welcoming and assuring. On the other hand, the nurses are rude, arrogant, and practically laugh at struggling patients. I had arrived 5pm and didn’t get to leave until 7am. I was then admitted again at 1pm, and waited until 11pm until I was discharged with no help whatsoever. Some of the nurses are very kind, but the ones I had primarily talked to were dismissive and basically laughing at others. Repulsive. I also find it important to mention that I was a 16 year old girl waiting with no one with me. Maybe they were dismissive because of my age, but I was (and still am) in overwhelming pain that was entirely overlooked and mocked.
Told them I had a swollen appendix been in pain for two weeks, was crying for 5 hours straight another lady was also crying. They let kids with colds go on prior to real medics emergencies. What can you do for a child with a cold? Literally nothing but administer Tylenol. After checking in at 1030 pm, I was in waiting room without any type of instructions such as add pressure the pain was unbearable, 6 am rolls around and they still have 2 hour wait of people ahead of me? When the wait time at 10 pm was 4 hours? Why would any decent medical professional keep someone waiting 8 hours? The nurses and doctors here are extremely poor in treating medical emergencies
We were at the ER. My son is having mental health issues. The nurse who first interviewed us was awesome. The doctor named Dr. Campbell (must be a resident) who interviewed him was showing no compassion and empathy at all. He was not a good listener, turns his head around while me and my son were talking, and cuts us off with every word we say. He was so rude. This is sad and frustrating. Treating my son with mental health that way. He will not be a very good doctor whenever he graduates (poor future patients). And I bet IMGs will come out more as good doctors because they take the exam and learn the Canadian way of properly treating the patients.
All the staff that helped me in emergency/triage were amazing last night (2:00amJune3). All the nurses that took care of me were lovely friendly caring people. I have extreme fear of medical needles but they were able to keep me calm enough for blood work and an IV. If anything I owe them an apology for all the extra work they had to go through to get me comfortable and ready. It was a medical nightmare for me but the people doing there jobs really helped me to stay calm a did the best they could with a hysterical person. I’ve been to the other major hospitals in Edmonton before but this was by far my best experience with emergency/triage.
The ER is ridiculous! When I arrived, I had to wait in a big lineup that was moving extraordinarily slowly. I only had a chance to see the triage nurse after 3 hours of standing and waiting. One man even collapsed while standing in that ridiculous line. I was told that it was going to take from 6-8 hours till I get seen, but it's been more than 16 hours since I got here. I arrived at 6 PM and now it's 11:15 AM the next day, and I'm still waiting. I don't know if they're really testing my survival endurance or if they're waiting till I drop dead or faint. This is absolutely ridiculous. I do not recommend this hospital at all!
For the past two years, one of our favourite places to go has been Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton, AB. This hospital is just 22 kilometres from our home. The care that we have received there has always been excellent. They are very responsive to questions and requests for medical attention if needed, and they are also generous in providing information when asked about their services. This is not a large facility with many doctors but the care here is timely and effective in all cases that I have seen or heard of any time I have visited Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton, AB over the past few years.
Worst hospital I ever visited. I was in a condition yesterday that I could even stand and I was almost running into things( doors, pillars) so, unfortunately I decided to visit this hospital in emergency. I went there and spend 12 hours and came back got no treatment at all. Firstly i had wait 6 hours in the line and waiting area. Then finally my turn came and they didn’t even offer me bed I was extremely sick and was standing and sitting for 12 hours which made me even more sick. Doctor did not do anything at all no medications or glucose or nothing. I just wasted 12 hours and came home in even worst cond.
My husband crashed his bike and his collarbone is broken and sticking out of his skin. He had to wait 12 hours and then was kicked out because he didn’t have healthcare even though we were going to pay for it and they were asking for money before doing bc anything. My husband was on the phone with the surgeon and they said I won’t work on you until I have my money. These people only care about money, if you don’t have it they will leave you to die. For two days he’s at home now suffering from the pain of his bone scraping is skin. They left him to die. The hospitals in Edmonton won’t help you.
Had the unfortunate experience of visiting the ER last night for what I thought was a broken foot. 7 hours of waiting for an xray. While in the waiting room - I felt uncomfortable. They started taking blood from other patients in the room in the open. Not everyone is okay with blood or needles. And what about cross contamination? Come on. Do better. I've never seen that in ANY other emergency room in the city. It's gross. And please clean up the floors of the emergency room and garbage. Staff were friendly but 7 hours for a possible broken bone is not okay.
I had a great experience with my first delivery. I was scared about everything before but hospital staff is fantastic , kind and helpful. When my labour started I had no idea what to do but nurses took great care of me one nurse I want to mention her name is Karen she took over in second half and she was so so amazing my baby was born in her presence just a minute before her shift was ended. Everyone was so kind Doctors and nurses they took care of me like baby my husband was standing in corner . Only terrible thing was small benches for fathers to sleep.
If you have mental health problems, come here and the doctor in charge will fix you up real quick. Trussssst me. He knows what he is doing. Love this place. They care ❤️ Just be honest with them, all I gotta say. Bunch of activities to keep your head occupied from the bad things. Be HONEST, and you will get the help you deserve, all I gotta say. I suffered from anxiety and depression and now I truly feel as if I can face my fears. If this can happen to me, this can happen to you. Love this place, they care... Trust me.
Compared to my previous labour & delivery experience elsewhere, Grey Nuns had better care especially recovery. Shout out to the ER nurse that literally run me up to labour floor. I hope you had a good laugh after cause I did. Shout out to the nurses and doctor that rushed to deliver my baby in mere minutes. Shout out to my nurse(Can’t believe I forgot your name) for great bedside manners and care for baby and I until you took us to the recovery unit. Last but not least, shout out to the nurses I had while on the recovery floor. Y’all are amazing!
I went to the grey nuns today for day surgery and had a great experience. There was a gentleman at the front door screening for Covid and he was hilarious, really lightened the mood. Made me feel good as soon as I got in as I was pretty nervous. All the nurses were friendly but it was really the operating room staff that was incredible. I told them about previous bad experiences when going under and having a panic attack. They made feel comfortable and calm. I really appreciate this and I am super great full for the positive experience.
It’s hard to believe that a hospital has such a low rating. My experience here was great. I sincerely believe that the staff are wanting to help and are kind and courteous. At least that was my experience. The hospital is very clean and well lit. It’s smaller but seems to be well taken care of. My aunt had a MRI appointment that I brought her too and she was well taken of. The waiting area was nice and the seating was comfortable. Even though the MRI was somewhat stressful she was made to feel comfortable. All was good in the end.
I love the maternity ward at Grey Nuns Hospital, I had both of my daughters there. The doctors and nurses are so nice and attentive, they made sure I was as comfortable as I could be. I always recommend this hospital to any of my friends or family that are having a baby. I would say more about the hospital but I've only ever been to the labor and delivery/maternity ward lol Across the street there are businesses and fast food places, if you take the bus there us a bus stop close by, plus that new train should be starting up soon.
I was at grey nuns coz I brought my husband to ER. I have to parked at the front coz it’s cheaper to park there since we’ve been waiting for over 2hrs already. I went to the Information desk to ask where is the best way to get back to ER and the lady at the front (black long hair with eyeglasses) was not friendly at all and seems to be annoyed to be interrupted. No smile and just b**** face as she pointed me to the direction where to go. She shouldn’t be at the front/ help desk with this attitude! *Happened on April 26th, 7pm.
I had such an amazing experience here. I had a surgery in my leg under general anesthesia, I felt very well taken care of and everybody in Unit 23 from the doctors especially the nurses are attentive, friendly, and courteous. It was my first time to have such a major surgery and I was here almost the whole day, I was anxious at first but it went away with the nurses’ treatment. I really appreciate the work of these nurses and doctors. My husband is also happy with how I was treated, plus the parking was free all day so yay!
Inefficient staff, some are with attitudes. Saw a nurse showing her attitude towards an elderly person. Inefficient system. Just to see triage nurse at emergency it takes 1.5 hours. Only one nurse at triage who takes like ever to gather your info.. it's like complete chaos outside at the waiting area and inside everyone is in chilling mood. Complete Canadian healthcare system is a joke. Doesn't matter how many staff they hire, they have to make the system efficient. Lots of areas to improve.. hope it'll..
All the staff that work here seem to be working at their own pace. They have no sense of urgency what so ever. I understand there were some cut backs in healthcare but if they worked a bit faster, there would be less wait time. I couldn't wait to get out of emergency while I was waiting for my results so someone else could take my place. The waiting rooms are jam packed! Everyone who works there seem friendly. If they referred to patients as "patients " vs "my guy "or "that lady' would sound more professional.
The Grey Nuns is staffed with doctors and nurses who are exceptional. My experience was very positive due to Dr. Ip's expertise. This doctor is a blessing to mankind for sure. The nurses were well trained, compassionate, helpful and keenly hard-working. The hospital is very clean and well organized. It could use an injection of millions in donations as the emergency department was very busy and has a shortage of space, which I could see as I passed by it. God bless everyone at Grey Nuns.
I’m really surprised to see you such a low review count on this place. I went in one morning with severe lower abdomen pain and waited maybe an hour to be admitted. Once in the back the staff treated me very well and took good care of me. Turns out I had gallbladder issues and needed it removed. I had surgery that very same day and got to go home in the morning. I am so thankful to all the nurses who took care of me. Oh and yes thank you to my surgeon and her team!!
Extremely long and slow line, and it took over 12 hours to be seen by nurses and doctors, but the best hospital I’ve attended. All staff related to patients on an emotional level, and explained all they were doing. All the sick patients were kind to each other. One young man dialed the phone on the wall for an Elderly lady, multiple times. Patients offered to help one another whenever it looked like they needed help. This is the way we should all live, everyday!
Had the worst time ever at Grey Nuns Hospital. The nurse was beyond disrespectful and treated me like I had no value. If they have absolutely zero tolerance for disrespect towards staff such as doctors and nurses, that exact same rule should apply towards the patients. Someone needs to remind these people their place and remind them to stay in their lane and stop thinking themselves as if they have power over us. Worst experience ever.
Overflowing triage waiting room. One person has been in fetal position moaning in pain on the floor for hours now. Another woman came in incoherent unable to hold her head up and they put her in a wheelchair to wait - I'm not sure if she's now passed out or sleeping. Many people waiting eventually give up and walk out. I'd say it feels like a third world country, but I've been to triage in third world countries and it was miles better.
I came here after a surgery in another hospital in pain. Infected. This hospital and its staff has been amazing. The did a surgery to fix the issues the other caused and I came out feeling 1000x better. Mentally and physically. They have gone above and beyond at making me feel heard and cared for. For the triage nurse Carol who was on when I came in at 6 am to Dr Lee and my burning staff on the 4th. Thank you all so so so much.
June 9, yesterday, was my first time as a patient at the Grey Nuns and my first colonoscopy. Many thanks to Dr. Siffledeen and his assistants in making this a very positive experience. The staff in the Endoscopy Department were wonderful, so helpful and caring. I was helped mostly by Stephanie, who made me feel relaxed and cared for. She has a lovely personality and wonderful skills in making this procedure positive.
I have had to come to the hospital a few times since last year . Mostly with my grandparents . All the doctors are superb. The cardiologists, the ones in ER are so kind. they are quick and through with assessments. BUT I cannot seem to understand why the Triage nurses are so so so rude . So mean! The guy nurse is nice but the older lady and one wil long hair would roll their eyes or just pass remarks that so hurtful.
Great staff and good hospital with well managed services. As we all know waiting is a major concern. Regardless the emergency situation they may ask you to wait for 4 to 5 hours . Be prepared for that delay min and max up to 8 to 12 hours . It's always better to take 14$ one day parking as you don't know exactly how Long it would take. nice cafeteria but sandwiches are pretty expensive but healthy though look like.
Hospital facilities are great, but i had very bad experience with nurse labour and delivery ward . Her name is Harpreet kaur , she is very selfish and careless nurse i saw over there. Other nurses doing great job but she did not show any interest for patients, i want to request to staff please teach her everything again she just making money with do anything, and she also show interest to patients personal life.
Insanely long waiting times. I arrived at 4 pm, waited 6 hrs, and saw a doctor at 10:30 pm. They did some tests on me and I waited another hour and a half for the results. I left the hospital at 12am. The staff do not seem to be coordinated with each other: I had two separate nurses do ECGs on me. The doctor and nurses were mostly nice and professional, except for one Asian female nurse who was a bit rude.
We had a great experience at the Grey Nuns. During the arrival of our first born we had great service and first hand look at how hard the nurses, doctors, and nurse practitioners work to provide the best health care possible. They had excellent parking and the parking app was easy to use, in-room machines, and even free fabric face masks for outpatients. Appreciate the staff at Grey Nuns.
Great care for patients and their visitors. My partner went to the emergency room and he ended up needing surgery. Nurses were wonderful at helping me find his room, they gave me the time and space to be with him even after visitor hours had technically ended. I was also able to come early before his surgery in the morning. They took great care of him and treated me well as a visitor.
I will never forget Dr. Joel San Agustin and the amazing nurses who provided lightning fast and exceptional care to my husband when he got injured. Dr. Agustin’s expertise and kindness were outstanding, and the nurses went above and beyond to comfort both my husband and me during a stressful time. We’re immensely grateful for their incredible service! Thank you for all that you do.
The experience my family has had with Grey Nuns Hospital. They don't care about the patients. The doctor and staff I have talked to have no respect, are rude, they interupt when trying to talk and explain the situation, they just don't care. I would never want to send any family to this hospital. I will never donate anything to this hospital. What an awful and horrible experience.
Hospital is FILTHY. as with most hospitals, the wait time is brutal. Staff are kind, but quiet so you have to constantly sit on the edge of your seat to actually be helped. If they call your name and you don't hear it, they don't call it again. They fill the bed. 10 hours with no help in a dirty hospital leaves me feeling like I strongly suggest that NO ONE comes here.
Brought my partner to the emergency room because she was vomiting excessively. Also 8 weeks pregnant. Since she couldn't keep anything down, she was told not to eat or drink water. Even after telling the front desk we waited over 5 hours. She was dehydrated and very hungry. Absolutely no sense of urgency from the emergency room, which is very disappointing.
My first grandson was born at this hospital!! He spent a few days in their NICU!! I live in Ontario and knowing that the wonderful doctors and nurses took such great care of him as well as my son and his girlfriend was of great comfort to me!! I just wanted to say how much I appreciate the staff there!! God bless all of you!!!❤❤❤ …
If you’re not DYING - expect to wait up to 10 hours. Online wait times are never accurate. I got in at 4 hours with severe vertigo. Yes it sucked, but you have to understand how triage works and the reality of Alberta doctor shortage. I was treated by compassionate, kind nurse - richard, doctor l.maternist, and CT scan. Parking is brutal by the hour.
When you go for an emergency, it will take 6 to 8 hours to see a nurse or a doctor, which is painful but okay. But the more distressing is the behaviour of the staff, inhumane, no value for the human life. They treat you like they are doing some favour to you, they forget that they are getting paid from the common civilian’s hard-earned tax money.
The staff and management need to understand a meaning of emergency medical needs. I went to Emergency room with my wife. She is 19 weeks of pregnant and can’t stand and sit more than 5 minutes due to severe back pain and complications. They made us to wait 8 hrs at hospital. They need to give a first priority to kids, pregnant, and seniors.
Very thankful for the doctors and nurses who were there for me, my wife and our new born. Extremely knowledgeable, helpful and we have great experience with their birth centre. Highly recommended to anyone who are about to give birth to their child. Especially thanks to Dr. Lee for her expertise. Truly amazing team you have there.
Great health care, very short wait and admittance time, couldn't ask for better staff, nurse's and doctors they all worked beyond the call of duty. Why only four stars food was terrible when I was discharged found out it was not their fault, Alberta Health services to blame the food is catered out and supplied to the hospitals.
I went to emerge last Sat. This hospital was excellent. I was Impressed with the level of care and how completely thorough they were. Nurses very kind...doctor excellent caring cominicated.very well. Always asked if I had a question,if I'm comfy. I highly recommend this hospital. I cannot say enough good things about it.
Worst experience, indifferent staff, push the button mentality. 0 accountability, incompetent staff, "going to leave that for the night shift" when Iv is needed. Indifferent to patients in pain. Have to be reminded to provide medications on time. Not clean bedding, no help with personal. No compassion oeriod.hygiene,
Been here twice recently and had a good experience. Staff is respectful if you're respectful to them. They explain things really well and answer your questions without making you feel like you're bothering them. They're very thorough with tests. My only complaint is the wait times, but that's a different issue
I waited in ER for 6 hours until being seen by a doctor, then another 6 hours after being admitted into the ER, then another 2 hours after the doctor say I can go home. It is the longest wait I had in my life, but I am glad they figured out what’s wrong with my health, and big thank you to the ultrasound lady
We had to go in for an emergency C-section and had a very good experience. Both doctors and nurses were fantastic. Everyone was helpful and very knowledgeable. The only bad thing is the little benches they have for the fathers to sleep on in the rooms. Those are terrible. Otherwise staff was great.
Went there with a concussion and a broken Jaw and they said it wasnt urgent enough to wait in the back on the line. Unless your bleeding all over the floor your waiting forever like the rest. Update spent 12h there and they wouldnt let me go eat.if i left they take me out of the system.
I wish i could give less than zero . Unfortunately, there is no option. Few days ago, My gave a birth to a new baby, the staff at the hospital didn’t write down the name of new born baby on the white board as well as did not mention the name of assigned nurse. They seemed to be RACIST.
Long wait times and the nurses have really bad attitudes when you’re trying to ask for help ! Kids sitting there crying in pain and they don’t offer anything and make you wait all damn night ! What’s the point of even going ? Better off calling an ambulance and going In that way
I understand the medical system and this more so falls on management. The er waiting rooms are confrontational areas of talk. A calm cool attitude does make for efficient intake of people but also a lack of respect for urgency in some situations is very present here.
If you can avoid going there do it! So many errors in my father in laws care, he shouldn’t have died. If that wasn’t bad enough, the food he was served, I honestly wouldn’t give to my dog. If I could give a lower score than one star I would. Absolute tragedy
This hospital discriminates against me and my brother, not only did we wait for 8 hours, they didn’t even give us a bed to sleep in, well all of the white people had a bed to sleep, literally ever people who come after us. The stuff were mean as well.
Waited 10 hours for an xray, and when i inquired about the wait time or when approximately id be seen, 3 different nurses were extremely rude. Dont even come here if you're dying because they are not compassionate here. Would rate lower if i could.
Awful humans that work at this hospital.. Horrible to people with health issues it's because of poorly mismanaged places so many places in Edmonton are shutting down are poorly and mismanaged system. Waiting times are disgustingly long..
We had our first baby at Grey Nuns and it was an amazing experience. All the staff was so caring and we felt like our family members are taking care of both mother and baby. Especially Dr. Skroniauk. and nurse Megan were fabulous …
Came at 5 am in the mrng. It’s almost 1:30 pm still waiting for my turn in the Emergency waiting area..faced similar situation around 2 yrs ago when I have to go to Emergency. Nothing changes in 2 yrs. Health system sucks here…
Had day surgery today. EVERY nurse, doctor, porter that took care of me was so kind and caring. I felt so well cared for and everyone was smiling and happy. I am so pleased with the incredible care I received today. Thanks!
worst place in the world to be, takes so long to get seen with a overfilled room where people need to sit on the floor or stand. how is that sanitary or safe? and the room to sit in is tiny compared to the amount of people.
When you need to stay because a family member is passing this place has 1 cot on the unit that they share with another unit. It is not offered you have to ask for it. The food they serve the patients is horrible as well.
Better go to ur gp, drive few miles to some other hospital or die at home peacefully! Avoid this place! Traige nurses are robots, no mercy or sympathy! No time limit to be seen by doc. Prepare to wait here forever!
The triage here is the worst I have ever received from any hospital completely disrespectful and rude with no thoughts or cares for the well being of those entering the emergency room. Honestly shameful.
Disgrace to healthcare. Waited over 7 hrs. Some of the triage nurses are extremely condescending and rude. Our healthcare is only getting from bad to worse and the staff seem to work at their own pace.
I would like to thank the staff on the 5th floor for treating my grandmother so well. She had a long stay with them and they respected her and treated her well. She came out of there happy and strong.
The emergency waiting room is an absolute joke ! Do not go to this hospital. I heard people talking about waiting for 12 hours !!! You could be screaming in pain and you won’t get any help still
Very bad experience The waiting time so long in Emergency. Not quick Emergency help Emergency mean Emergency. Maybe im complain and im post this post Facebook and tiktok and other social media
I can't thank the incredible staff at grey nuns hospital enough. The doctor eased my worries and the nurses were so supportive. The wait time was long but not as long as it could have been.
Drs and nurses that did my procedure were fantastic. However after care was horrific. Extremely incompetent nurses. Its like they never went to school. And the building was very unsanitary.
My husband was very sick the basic things were not given to him he had to urinate in a cup because they were too lazy to empty his urinal that's just the beginning horrible filthy hospital
Nurse was vey excellent but management staff was not so nice. Instead of 2 private rooms there didn’t give us private roomand made to stay in congested room with other.
Very nice hospital very clean and organized, the nurses and doctors are very nice.
