12/29 I received a recorded call from a Hertz Rep who made reservations for me in conjunction with a claim with State Farm. It was expected for me to receive a rental this morning. Upon contacting the designated Hertz location, I was told that there is no car for me and further due to the holiday the rates are higher and I would be welcomed to pay out of pocket for said rate. I refused that option, was placed on hold to consult the supervisor. The rep returned on the line reiterated the option to pay out of pocket or wait until 5 for a car to be returned. I have called repeatedly. "Rocky" was supposed to call me by 9:30 am. It is almost 3pm and NO ONE from Hertz has phoned. I was expected at work as I insured I would be a little late but would be in after dropping my car off and picking up a rental. I will not get paid for the day nor will I qualify for holiday pay as I would be required to work the day prior. How and why do you treat a contract customer in this manner. State Farm should not send business to your company as you don't value the business. My call for the reservations was recorded. Take a listen. I would like my issued escalated to a Regional Manager or the Business Liazon for State Farm. This is unacceptable.

I was in a car accident on Monday and my car insurance made a reservation through this company. I received a voicemail from them telling me to call them back for my reservation. When I called them back the same day a woman answered and told me she was helping two customers that she would call me back and take my number down I told her I would wait on hold but she said it will take too long. Come to Wednesday she still never called me back I called and the phone just rang and rang then hung up. I called again Thursday morning and it was the same. I have two children I have to find ways to get them to school and live an hour away from my work and go back on Friday. How do they expect customers to figure this stuff out when they have no voicemail, don’t answer, don’t call back?? I would’ve showed up but I don’t have a car so risking getting a ride from someone to be turned down when I don’t have any information is not going to happen. Thank you guys for making this horrible incident for me this much more difficult.

I chose Hertz because of my AAA discount after an accident and was picked up at my home. I felt the driver was traveling too close to other vehicles and attempted to educate her about defensive driving. She acknowledged that I was anxious because I had just been in an accident but said she was an offensive driver Customer service at the office was ok but nothing out of the ordinary and i rented a great Nissan Sentra When I returned the car the same agent met me at the office. I gave her the keys and went back in while I waited for my ride home .I attempted to go into the officebefore I left but the door was loecked and no one answered. I never received a receipt nor was the transaction completed . This is not the kind of service Hertz is known for and I believe what I experienced may have to do with the fact that the agent told me she had only worked there a few months. COVID-19 has turned our world upside down. However i wonder if new agents are given driving tests and wonder what kind of training they get

The manager here is a NIGHTMARE!! There were 10 people waiting to pick up cars & she insisted on vaccuming & slowly wiping down one vehicle for over 30 minutes!!! We had been waiting over an hour (mind you, we had an appointment to pick up our vehicle)and asked if we could just take our vehicle as is. She said “No! All vehicles must be cleaned before we release them”. We offered to clean the vehicle ourselves, and she still refused to give us our car. We missed our reservations we had for a tour because of her ridiculous policies!!! Her staff was extremely nice & the young black girl who worked there (her name was Cherry Freeman?) should be the manager!!! She went out of her way to help all of the people who were stranded without a vehicle because the manager refused to release any vehicles without them being cleaned first. This blonde, white woman is NOT manager material & does not understand the concept of good customer service. Hertz needs to get rid of her!!!!

My wife and I arrived early... hoping to check into our reservation. (We knew it would be difficult since this Hertz is right next to the airport) sure enough, we would have to wait until our reservation time. Fair enough... Renting a car is not our favorite thing to do but Nick (I think he is the manager) was outstanding. Extremely professional, attentive and understanding of our needs as customers. He was able to get a car for us before our reservation time but he also offered us a LYFT to roam around while we waited. He suggested Little Italy which was very close to HERTZ. We got some very good suggestions for places to eat at and my wife and I had a blast! We definitely did not need a LYFT but the fact that we were offered one and treated so nicely made a huge difference in our experience. Thank you!

This place is a scam, I booked through Expedia and paid all of the money to rent the car. I get to this place and all of a sudden it’s extra stuff to pay, I say cool and pay. Everything’s good customer service great ! Then I get home from vacation and I notice an additional $231.00 was taken off my card. I also notice $95.90 was taken off my card ( this was the amount I was supposed to pay for gas, extra charges. I call and talk to the Lady Deborah or Deanna or whatever. And she’s then playing as if She doesn’t know anything, she doesn’t know why I was charged 231.00 she doesn’t know what’s going on. She then gives me a number and tells me she has other stuff to do and can’t stay on the phone with me. This place steals from people and Hertz is an overall trash company

I had a pick up appointment scheduled for 12pm on a Saturday. Took an uber from the airport and arrived around 1215 due to a slight delay in my flight. Was never notified that my appointment time was at the moment they closed, despite a lengthy conversation with a gentlemen about my vehicle a few days prior who ended the call with "see you at 12pm on the 24th!" I arrived and was informed by the rude attendant that they were closed and she could not help me. So I had to uber back to the airport, rent a car there and pay 3x as much for a lower class car. Maybe I should have checked the posted hours but maybe don't schedule an appointment for the moment you close and maybe a courtesy call would have been nice to at least save me the uber ride.

I don't personally recommend going here if you need a car. Go to the location at the San Diego Airport instead - This location's hours are much more limited than many other car rental agencies in this area, including closing at noon on Saturdays and not being open on Sundays - They forfeited my reservation and took my payment when I was unable to pick up my car on time (I made an error in booking on my side). While they did call me to let me know that they were closing at noon, they would not cancel my reservation and give me a refund. This was incredibly frustrating as I was left having to find another place to rent a car on very short notice. I disputed this charge with my credit card company and was thankfully able to get a refund

I wanted to write this review for Melisa Newlin. Melisa was so kind during the rental process. She was extremely busy while we were there to rent a car, but she was so kind throughout the entire process even though she was by herself. She managed the entire process professionally and with a smile as she had to check us in and clean the inside and outside of the car herself bc they were short staffed. I told her she didn't have to clean the car we were renting but she made sure the car was in excellent condition before we drove it off the lot. Thank you for your grace and positive attitude even though you were in a not ideal situation. We will definitely be back to this Hertz because of your amazing customer service.

Stayed in San Diego for a few days before renting a car to tour California, so dealt with the staff here as a ‘walk-in’. Service was good; the package options were well explained to us by Mauricio, and the Jeep Compass we rented for 10 days was excellent. The location is very close to the airport but it was certainly easier (and no doubt cheaper) to pick-up and return the Jeep at this location. It’s also adjacent to a Shell Service Station, which is handy for whichever fuel option you go for. Worth noting that this location is closed on Saturday afternoons and Sundays, and so you would be charged until the office reopened if you returned a vehicle out-of-hours. Would recommend dealing with this place directly.

We were unaware that Hertz was not located at the airport. We specifically searched for an airport site so I feel this was misleading. As a result, we had to pay cab fare to get the car. The Hyundai was new and nice. However, the price of $700+, plus the cab fare of $40 was excessive. The GPS is a very old model that requires a lot of hands on by the driver or a passenger and barely works. I found it funny that a Hertz warning on the hands on nature of the GPS came up every time we used it. Obviously, they know it is a problem. I would not book Hertz unless you use AAA. Otherwise you will get completely ripped off. That was not just our opinion, but the opinion of the Hertz employee as well.

I do not recommend this location for rental. They did not any cars available despite the customers had reservations. Had to wait 30 minutes to get cars transport from another location. The lady behind the counter was nice and helpful but she couldn't do anything when there were no cars. Upon returning my car, the place was closed without any notice. The gate was lock. I had to call the 800 number any the operator directed me to return to the airport location. They charge me $75 dollars "inter city" fee because the car was return to a different location even when it is their fault. Now I have to call the 800 number to dispute. Horrible experience and a waste of time.

I agree with almost all bad comments on this business; I am in this business right now. Two people I see working; Melissa - she is nice and trying her best; manager (lady) - trying to justify anomalies (example: I rented Full size online for price cheaper than what she is charging me for mid size; key buttons don't work and they can't replace battery on car remote etc.). This place is mess at all levels; 2019 cars is what you get here in mid 2021. Yucky cars. Avoid at all if you can. This should be last option for anyone. I learnt my lessons and sharing so others don't have to go through what I am going through right now.

One person operation. If you are in a hurry, forget it. Melissa (the agent) is a friendly and super nice person, but waiting for service, or your car is long and frustrating. When I arrived there were 3 parties ahead of me. At least 45 min wait before my name was taken, then another 30 min- but luckily my car was physically ready. One person ahead of me had waited hours. The one desk person (Melissa) was actually cleaning the cars. I asked her, and she said that this was their everyday process, they were not short. She was it. But service with a smile, not flustered, definitely a great employee.

The Tesla car rental was nice. Available on time and check out process was smooth and easy. Got a nice upgrade based on availability and hertz gold member status. But we prepared to go over the bills when you return the car. This franchise will slap random fees on and claim theres nothing they can do. They even tried charging me for an extra day which I showed my original reservation and receipt which proved otherwise. On my reservation page it says : Amount to be paid at time of rent/counter $0 Of course, not the case. Now I’ll have to dispute with my credit card company.

We rented a car for 5 days while in San Diego. We had originally reserved a small-size economy car, but they didn't have it and ended up with a Tesla Model 3. The manager, Melissa, was super helpful in checking us out. This was my first time driving a Tesla and she showed us the basic functionality and answered any questions we had. Even though they do have restricted hours, they worked with us as we had an early flight and we were able to drop off our car in a different location. I would definitely rent from them again!

I was at this location about a month ago, during spring break - I needed a rental and almost nobody had any. Found one here, but as it turned out, the rental didn’t show up for its return time. The agent helping me, Avery, was very efficient, calm & collected while taking care of my situation and helping the 3 other customers coming in after me. Soon enough, Avery drove me up the freeway (about 10 mins) because they were able to find me a rental. Top notch service on his end. Thank you!

Unbelievable. Melisa was the rudest most unprofessional person I have ever spoken with. I can not believe the way she speaks and I’m ashamed that hertz hired this woman.. she’s a disgrace to the company and to customer support. By the way I work Uber/Lyft this is my job. She was so rude guys! Do not even waste your time here. I’m extremely angry and trying to control my language on here. She really is just low... thank you for letting me post this. I hope she gets removed!

The manager here ( Melissa) is a rock star ! I’ve rented here multiple times and she always knocked it outa the park for me . When I have an issue she makes an adjustment for me, and I see her take care of every customer as if they were her own family. Hertz good Job hiring this one she’s a keeper. I look forward to renting here again. FYI I rent from here because it’s cheaper than at the airport ( no airport fees ) and it’s a quick walk from the airport

I definitely have to recommend this place. Excellent service given by J.T and Rodrigo. I've been to many rental car companies before and these two gentleman have gone more than out of their way to help solve my needs. I was greeted upon my arrival and they seemed to sincerely care on my needs. They went out of their way to make sure I was taken care of and even did a follow up call to make sure things were going well. I will use this service again

My 3-Star review is not about this location. It is about the customer service I got when calling the 800 number. They were rude and ended up charging me over $100 in late fees. Not the fault of this location and that’s why I gave 3 stars when overall I would give Hertz a ZERO star rating if I could. Rosie is awesome here as this location and very helpful. If you can, bypass the corporate number and rent directly from this place.

1. Guy who checked in and out not personable at all. 2. Cars door lock did not work and no way to lock manually. When I told the guy after we brought it back he didn’t seem to care. The whole trip was uncomfortable since we could not lock the van. Very stressful. 3. The drivers seat kept unlatching and would push the seat all the way to the back when it hit a bump on the road. This happened 3-4 times while driving! So unsafe.

Bad experience I will complaint with AAA that book me with hertz in the first place. They have only one person onsite that needs to do everything alone while other customers are waiting for a long time. Picking up and dropping off was the same. Hertz should have more staff working to help clients many people have flights or places to be in time. I dont think I will rent at this location anymore or any othe hertz.

We went on a Saturday and was a little bit crowded because of the reduced hours I believe, so had to wait a little but the lady at the desk was extremely helpful and manageable of the situation for everyone. Checking in was smooth, we did have to wait to get the EV we chose even though other options were given but wasn't bad it was our choice to wait and worked out fine in the end.

My experience at this location was excellent. Clean establishment, with great inventory. Emmit was the representative helping me, and he went above and beyond to provide me with a wonderful experience. He was helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. My transaction was fast, and enjoyable. HUGE S/O to Emmett! He really looked out for me while I was vacationing from Maryland. I wasn't exactly thrilled with the initial vehicle offered so he upgraded me to a more favorable option for a small fee (very affordable). The entire staff was polite, nice, and professional. I will certainly recommend this location and I will definitely use them again for sure.

They are “out” of all cars at a car rental place. There have been families waiting here for 4 hours to get a car they had rented that morning. I personally was told minimum an hour to wait for a car that should’ve been ready at the time we got here. It is also ridiculous how they had 1 worker on a friday and saturday evening. I felt bad for her.

It seems like these guys are normally pretty fast/efficient but today, people are waiting at 5:00 pm for cars that had 8:00/9:00 am reservations and others have been turned away. The staff here are working super hard and are really polite despite the stressful situation. Seems like this office is getting no help from above during this crisis.

Thank you for the perfect rental experience. Before renting I was a little worried because I have had a few bad experiences with car rentals in the USA. However, everything worked really well here and they didn't try to get more money from extra fees. Fast service too, so I think this is the better choice than renting a car at airports.

Could not have had a more pleasant experience picking up our rental just now with Emmett. He was wonderful and made us feel like our business was much appreciated. This summer I used this hertz branch and received very professional service from Melisa, she is amazing lady, very kind and helpful all the time. The car we used for our stay was brand new and very good one- Polstar!- I was really happy with their electric car selection and definately will recommend to everyone! Greetings to Melisa:)

Made a reservation over a month in advance, but when I arrived, they told me they didn’t have any cars available. They said I could leave, and they would call me when they have a car. Where am I going to go with out a car? What’s the point of taking reservations if they aren’t going to have a car reserved?

Decent. Close enough to the airport rental building (.5 miles) to walk to save a few bucks. Only one employee behind the counter, could be a problem if they're busy. Make sure and grab your receipt when you drop off the car--I had to call and get mine as it never was sent. Employee was friendly

Patience is key at this location. It’s a bit under staffed, but a huge shout out to Melissa the rental agent who maintained a positive and energetic attitude to ensure that everything went smoothly for everyone that was at the location during pick up and again at drop off! She’s a Rockstar!

Incredibly bad service. Melisa, the branch manager, lies to the faces of customers and Deanna, one of the reps, does not know what she's doing. They make promises in voicemails and on the phone, and when you show up, the rates are double the price of what you BOOKED and confirmed.

Canceled my reservation as I'm on the way there. They called to say it was delayed at least 2 hours with no estimate of when or even if they could fulfill my reservation. They made no attempt to work with me or see if other locations had cars. It sounded like they overbooked.

Friendly, fast, clean. It was a little difficult for our Uber driver to drop us off as it's kind of tucked behind the gas station, and not an easy U-turn to get back to it. Staff immediately cleaned and sanitized as soon as we dropped off our car. Great experience here.

I picked up the car at Marriott and used it for one day. Superb service, reasonable price, dependable and comfortable car. Gas was 7/8 full when I picked up the car. It is hard to decide how much to refill. I filled up the tank and everybody should be happy.

Absolutely the best car rental experience in the downtown San Diego area. Melissa and her team were fabulous! Timely, super friendly and efficient. Highly recommend renting through Hertz versus dealing with the airport rental facilities.

Every time I drive by this location, there is MORE graffiti on their building! It is impossible to get someone on the phone and even when I tried through their roadside assistance line, I was put on HOLD for over EIGHT minutes!!

Two hours to get into a rental car. Absolutely insane. Staff your locations or close it. Also, need better indication that the shuttle does NOT take you here from the airport. Had to walk a mile over. Absolutely ridiculous.
