27 years ago I was asked by Jewish tourists where the Synagogue was located.I went with them stepped in side and it changed my life completely .I was home at last and would never return to my former ways .Wonderful people Torah focused were patient with my questions .Thank God for those tourists. My path is clearer .
Went for an hour tour with a group of UTAS Students and ex UTAS lecturer. The tour guide was very experience and was talking at the tip of his finger ~ with detailed description and historical events of the Synagogue. To many of us it was indeed an amazing and memorable experience A must to visit.
The oldest synagogue in Australia and the southern hemisphere still operating. Built in Egyptian Revival style, it opened in 1845 and reached its peak congregation soon after with numbers declining when men moved to Victoria following the discovery of gold in 1851.
The Architectural Design is actually based upon King Soloman's Temple and is my favourite building in Hobart. Gives one a preview of what the new Temple will look like when it is eventually rebuilt in Jerusalem...hopefully sooner rather than later.
Australia's oldest continuous synagogue. Opened in 1845. A real jem, both in an architecture sense and certainly historically. Most interesting.
I went here once and looks generally well maintained and cared for by its owners, they were friendly and looked after our group very well!
Go to one of the free tours offered. Learn the history of the building and the people who built it and continue to use it.
A very serene place in the middle of the city. A very historic synagogue built in 1840s and still in use.
Great sense of history and community. Love the unique convict benches and the rich red decor.
Oldest synagogue in Australia. Beautiful architecture and rich with historical significance.
Call up to arrange a tour. Some great knowledge will be imparted.
I am a descendant of Judah Yehuda Leib Solomon ESQ
Beautiful building, original from 1845.
