I had been searching for a new hairdresser and saw Hobbs had excellent reviews, so I booked with Doug - thinking he would surely be a great hairdresser. I showed him photos and tried to explain what I wanted but he was not very interested. He said "people usually trust me to make those decisions" he didn't give me the haircut I asked for - it was 1-2 inches longer than I wanted. I politely asked for more off, but he insisted saying I could come back again free of charge. It looked bad but i judged that returning would likely be super-awkward and might not end up getting what i wanted again- he had a friendly manner but also was also very confident that he knows better than the customer. I found it condescending. When I got to the register the woman told me it was going to cost extra because it was my first visit. £71. What a waste of money. To top it off, it was such a bad haircut I was teased by my co-workers a few weeks later as it grew out to be even worse.
One of the ladies here was extremely rude. I went in for a consultation in which I was told I'd be able to get my hair died lighter like I wanted. However, when I went back to get it done, the rude older hairdresser grabbed my hair after it had been washed and said 'I can't die this, it's so dry.' I know it's dry. This is why I was worried at the consultation. I never use heat on it or dye it, my hair is just naturally dry but I wanted a little blonde colour in it for summer which I was told they would be able to do at the consultation. I was so embarrassed by her rudeness. She pinched my hair and pulled it to while loudly saying how 'dry' it was. She refused the offer me the treatment I had planned for in the consultation and I left feeling hurt and embarrassed. To make things worse my friend was treating me as a gift and we couldn't get our hair done together like we had planned. If you do go to this place, pray you don't encounter this awful women.
This is the loveliest hairdressers I've ever been to! Not only are they incredibly well trained, they are very talkative and kind and really value the customers opinion. The entire vibe of the place is a very relaxed and happy atmosphere; we even met the owner when he came in and he wished us a good day when we left. Special mention to Kate who coloured my hair beautifully (especially considering I had hardly any clue what i wanted), and Ashley who cut and styled my hair; (and many other staff that complimented me during the whole process). Would definitely recommend if you prefer having salon quality hair as well as amazing customer service!! And there was even a little coffee shop type thing downstairs next to a beautiful garden so my boyfriend could wait while I had all this done! Already booked my next appointment :)
I got my hair cut by a lovely girl who was learning. I didn't mind that it took longer because I paid a discounted price. However, the woman that was guiding her spoke about me like I wasn't there saying I had been "very naughty" not getting my hair cut in such a long time and thats why it had so many split ends and why my hair looked so "thin". I'd gone in asking for layers but the older woman redirected the younger saying that "wouldn't suit" me because my hair wasn't thick enough. Going to the hairdressers can be quite stressful for some people. You're vulnerable while you're sitting under the scrutiny of people that know more than you. I think they need to work on being warmer and more considerate because I personally left feeling very insecure and silly for asking for layers
Would Avoid at all cost, They drove my girlfriend to tears. She went in to have her hair dyed and explained what had been done to her hair previously. They then made a mistake and turned her ginger, fair enough we are all human things happen. But when we called up to book AND PAY for another appointment to fix the problem (no haggling for discount just want it fixed) They were incredibly rude and refused to admit there had been a mistake. So not only was their performance below what you'd expect, their customer service is downright disgraceful and they turned away someone willing to pay to have them fix a problem they had caused. Friendly advice to you reading this going forwards, don't go there its not worth the hassle unless you like to pay to be shouted at.
Cannot believe I've lived in Bristol for so long and never been to this gem of a salon till yesterday! I had a terrible haircut on Wednesday at a place in London & desperately needed someone good to fix it- it was so bad that Mel who did my hair at Hobbs gasped with horror when I took my pony tail out and showed her my butchered hair . I am thrilled with the results and with Mel's service, she made me feel instantly calm & I feel so much better now i have have had my hair sorted properly by someone who really knows their stuff . The salon itself is really stylish and clean and all the staff were bubbly and helpful. Added bonus of the beautiful wild garden to sit in downstairs while you wait & great coffee. I will be making this my new hair salon from now on.
I booked a student appointment on my friend's recommendation (she does her hair here very regularly) and had it cancelled and rescheduled 3 separate times after my original booking. They were mistakes that were really obviously on the part of the reception - they'd failed to record that the stylist wouldn't be there and didn't bother to put me in for a different appointment. I felt like because I was a student I was insignificant. I understand that I would pay less than other customers but I don't think that really changes my value as a returning customer who was ready to make Hobbs my regular place. Unfortunately I'll be taking my business elsewhere (probably somewhere along Cotham Hill - great student offers).
Really disappointed with my appointment today as my hair is nothing like the image I showed the hairdresser. The colour I accept because I know my dark hair will have to go through some more rounds of bleaching but I wanted more colour around my face and towards the top of my hair near the roots but it’s nothing like I asked. I asked the hair dresser I wanted to cut my dead ends and I don’t think he knows what that is because he only cut my hair from the end which I could have done myself if I wanted to. He gave me the smallest trim off the ends of my hair and I had to pay a ridiculous fee for it. Never stepping a foot in that salon again after today.
The hairdressers always advise me on what is best for what I want and what is best for my hair (and how this impacts the long term condition/maintenance of my hair) rather than telling me everything I should do. Also, after colouring or toning my hair always feels super healthy. I could use semi permanent dyes bought from the shops to tone but they never work as well and always seem to damage my hair, whereas Hobbs seem to use really high quality products so I don't mind paying a little more. The salon also has a fun and friendly vibe.
I came for my first appointment here a few weeks back. All the staff were really friendly. I was served a delicious cup of coffee whilst I waited. Gemma cut my hair. She has a great consultation style and has clear knowledge and confidence of how to work with different hair types and what will look best on the person. She gave me a lovely cut and style and went above and beyond to make sure my hair looked fabulous for my birthday date. I had loads of complements on my hair that day. I will definitely be coming back here.
I was struggling to find a hairdresser to do my wedding hair as it was a Monday. I was in the salon having my hair coloured (which was amazing) when Doug overheard and offered to help me out on his day off. Doug did such an incredible job on my hair, he took the time to make sure it tied in with my dress and jewellery and even used some greenery from his own garden. My friends and family commented on how beautiful my hair looked throughout the day and I will strongly recommend Hobbs salon and Doug to anyone! Thank you!
I have been going to Hobbs for a while now, and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. Georgina always does my highlights the perfect shade of blonde, and I am always so happy with the result (so much so that I never ask her for anything else). The whole service is great, with a fresh cut and blow dry to finish. Not to mention the salon has such a lovely feel to it, all the employees feel like one big family. Would highly highly recommend!
Absolutely lovely experience!! Comfortable seat and coffee when I came through the door. Cool relaxing surroundings. Staff lovely and calming and warm :) Izzy? Who washed my hair was really easy to talk to and Neil who cut my hair is a real professional- so happy with my layered hairstyle - hair feels so much lighter, healthier and exactly what I wanted ! I’ll be back again! Such good value for money!
Best salon in Bristol! I first came here looking for someone who could cut curly hair (a seemingly impossible task for every other hairdresser I've been to!) I was not disappointed! The whole team is really friendly and every customer who walks out of the doors looks great! I always see Neil who is a brilliant hairdresser, would definitely recommend to anyone!
Hairdressers are like dentists for me! Being in possession of huge curly red hair (going grey), I decided to go for something different. Amazing doesn't cover it! Fab cut from Doug, beautiful colour from Carla & Skye worked magic with the hairdryer & brush!! I haven't brushed my hair in over 30 years! Fantastic, can't wait to return.
I am very grateful for the kindness and understanding I was shown and not made to feel bad about myself (I have trichotillomania). I will definitely go back, and their products smell amazing! Thank you to the young lady that worked with me and gave me a super new hair-do, really sorry your name popped out of my head.
Hobbs Hairdressing are exceptional. I went in with a unkempt top knot and an undercut and came out with a gorgeous pixie cut. The staff were really kind, creative and acommodating. I felt treated and it felt safe to be there; covid measures were clearly being taken with every client. Thank you guys!
The staff are really nice. Beautiful garden by the waiting area, tended by the friendly, chatty owner. It looks very contemporary inside. I go to Neil and every time he cuts my hair it looks great and I get strangers coming up to me and asking where I got my hair cut.
Reasonable prices, lovely staff, free beers as well as coffee on occasion. Always happy with what they do with my hair. My favourite for a few years now whenever I can afford to indulge myself or need someone a special occasion such as gig or video shoot.
Hobbs hairdressing is a Bristol institution, I have been going to have my hair cut here for many years. Sometimes I've been lucky to have cheap model haircut and colour too! As the owner Doug Hobbs teaches hairdressing too. Definitely going again.
I moved to Bristol in 2012 and have had Gemma style my hair for nearly 8 years. She is fantastic, very professional and friendly, and really understands her clients. Have not considered anywhere else but Hobbs due to the great service. Thank you!
I have been going to Hobbs for years and can't recommend it highly enough. The staff are fantastic, it has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and I always come out with a great confidence boost (in the form of an amazing haircut). …
Brilliant experience! Gemma was really professional and friendly; offered great advice too. The haircut and finish is fantastic so I would definitely recommend Hobbs :) Great student discount too if you manage to get an appointment!
Great experience here, lovely atmosphere and decor, offered a hot drink straight through the door. Georgina really listened to what I wanted and I ended up with one of the best haircuts I've had to date. Will be returning.
Hobbs is great! I won't go anywhere else for a haircut now. Hobbs listen, take take to understand what you want, and do a great job. They really know their stuff and are user-friendly! Recommended.
The stylist really knew her stuff and everyone I chatted to was lovely. They even bring you a hot beverage and there’s a little coffee area downstairs. I should have started coming here years ago!
Really inclusive, super friendly and laid back. Excellent hair cut. Felt like a lovely treat with the coffee and special secret garden at the back. I've found my forever hairdresses.
Corinna is a star as always, I've been going to hobbs for around 6 years now and the staff are always friendly. Wouldn't change hairdressers.
I’ve had my hair done here for the past 13 years, highly recommend Mal’s skill for colouring hair and Georgina’s talent for cutting hair.
