I also agree with the poster who said that they are sexist. I called the shop to enquire as to whether they stock an item. Rude staff, sarcasm and didn't assist me in a nice way at all. Very disappointed so I went to Wickes instead as its not the first time they have reacted like this when I have called them.

Never had any issues, nice staff and service. I got help selecting some nice timber from higher up and they let me use their hand saw to cut it to size. Sure, sometimes it's annoying not everything is in stock but as it's not massive warehouse this is totally fine. You can give them call upfront...

A brilliant local shop. They have almost everything that one of the soulless big warehouse stores have. The difference is that the staff are friendly and helpful. They have always been able to help me even with the most weird request (not THAT weird, it's not that kind of place).

It's good to work with such a friendly, knowledgeable firm right in the heart of East London. Such a difference compared to the big, faceless national super-merchants who lack the experienced staff to help you. These guys are keen on price as well as service; top marks HBS !

Possibly the friendliest, most helpful builders merchants ever, and my go-to DIY place. The ONLY reason I'm not giving a five star is because they don't always have things in stock but that's no reflection on the customer service.

I've been a customer of HBS for over 8 years. In general my experience has been positive, and as a local building shop its very convenient. The staff are usually very friendly and helpful.

I think the management of this place would be advised to spend more time improving the service and attitude of their staff rather posting bogus 5 star reviews here to bolster their rating.

Be wary when paying card here. Three times in a row I was overcharged by exactly £1. Had to ask several times for a proper receipt as I was only offered a card machine receipt. Avoid.

I use these guys regularly. They are on average the most helpful merchant I use. They remember who you are and always go out of their way to help you with supplies and materials.
