We couldn't get into the Old Bank round the corner and tried this, specifically for Sunday roast. The place has real potential like a Browns sort of vibe but was half empty, but we stayed. Aircon made us put layers back on. Young's beer ok. We ordered chicken roast (stuffed with pork), pork roast(with apple sauce) and 2x beef roast (with horseradish). Server specifically asked if we wanted condiments and we said 'apple sauce for the pork, horseradish for the beef). Food came... They had an extra chicken instead of beef, so they quickly changed that. No condiments arrived. We started anyway. Beef was from a catering pack and completely well done like leather strips. Chicken was dry and no pork stuffing at all (they said the menu needed to be changed), Pork was nice but very small crackling piece. Server said they weren't sure about the condiments, but then brought it (tho only one horseradish initially). In summary - totally let down by the service and the food was only comfort, not £20 territory. No problem paying for the meals, which we mostly cleaned up, but felt guilty not leaving a tip. But it really did not need failure to be rewarded. I think the rating provided is fair. They 'can do much better'.

From the beginning to end, the experience has been exceptional. I organise the company Christmas bash every year, for roughly 20 people, and after being burned in Oxford by a completely different company in 2022, I was on edge with the risk of that happening again in 2023. The HT team absolutely smashed it and 100% delivered, with everyone of my team saying how good this years venue was. The front of house staff were all amazing. You had a super friendly team of waiting staff, supported by a manager who worked quietly in the background over seeing everything and ensuring things ran smoothly. You could see the manager respected the staff and visa versa, by the way they all engaged with each other. Geat to see that in a high-pressure environment such as a packed out large pub at Christmas. The food was just as good as the service. The back of house staff clearly know what they are doing and we had 3 courses of delightful food. Some of the nicest beef I have personally eaten for my main as well. The venue is also lovely and well located. Thank you to the whole team for such a great Christmas lunch. Our first visit for food was excellent but we returned this weekend and it was terrible. We waited over 40 minutes for our food and the pork belly (which was a highlight before) was poorly cooked, no crispy skin, awful cut. The potatoes that were meant to be crushed with herbs arrived in single disc shape, not cooked through and with no herbs. The triple cooked chips were also not crispy...... Almost certainly not triple cooked. I don't think the fish should have left the kitchen. We did get the pork belly removed from the bill, bit considering I didn't eat it and the whole table had such a long wait for the rest of the food it didn't really improve our view of the place. We also got a free coffee.....

First visit since it reopened after full refurbishment. Always really liked the venue and the new setup seems really nice. However, our review reflects our disappointment related to hygiene standards. We watched the staff whilst we had some drinks and observed a number of them including the managers, pet the “pub dog” between serving clients both drinks and food without even once washing their hands. I’m sure they would have been trained in hospitality hygiene so was very disappointed to see this. Whatever their personal view is they must adhere to better behaviours and appreciate that not everyone likes dogs and even those that do may expect better. We will visit again for drinks at some point so will see if this issue improves.

A very disappointing visit. I like the atmosphere and decor, but I am coeliac and they didn’t even list allergens on their menu- when I went to ask, there was only one starter (a soup) and two mains that were gluten free. Neither were vegetarian. I wouldn’t have come if they’d made that clear on their website. Very poor for those with dietary requirements. It’s standard practise to list ingredients and allergens on menus now. I’ve added a pic of what they said I could eat, no choice whatsoever (it’s the three things marked).

Terrible for anyone with dietary restrictions. Nothing listed, you have to ask at the bar, took ages to find out and barely any choice. Only one choice, in fact.
Actually just went in to use the loo before an appointment nearby. Straight off the staff were welcoming and friendly. The drinks we had were spot on.we didn't eat as time was against us,but the smells and mmmms coming from the other tables told their tale. The refurb they've had is great too, nicest gents I've used in eons, every part of the place whispers class.i have been a bar fittet in my past so probably appreciated this more than most.we intend a much longer visit than just a couple of drinks the next time we visit. I rated food at 5 just so the average score the place deserved wasn't marked down, but intend to verify fairly soon! Would recommend

I loved this typical looking boozer and the next day we even had dinner there. It was very good. The only negative were the toxic two middleaged geezers sitting next to us, other couples & groups continually effing and blinding like a bunch of adolescent escapees from a borstal (and I really don't mind speaking a bit 0f French, but this was OTT). Or maybe as I realised later they were anti-social wannabes trying to overcompensate being "real men" I really think that venues need to warn clientele about anti-social behaviour as I felt ready to step in and it was only my anti-toerag radar that gave them reason to be concerned. And it's not my job!!!

The style of the place and the friendly staff sadly is let down by the food, or at least it was this meaning for breakfast. One of our group had the breakfast table, and although it looked nicely laid out the pastries were over warmed and had lost their softness (possibly yesterday's reheated). The pancakes with bacon and maple syrup were raw inside and the second attempt was no better than the first, so clearly the chef needs to rethink their recipe. And the muffin with the eggs benedict hadn't been toasted properly. The very nice waitress who was doing her best to deal with the kitchen mistakes took the pancakes off the bill, which was kind. But sadly this isn't a place I could recommend.
Went to the comedy chest night on Thursday, which is held monthly and it was great. Its the second time I've been and for only £2 you get to see 7 great acts, some new to comedy, but still very good, and a slice or two of pizza (depending on how fast you are). Definitely beats sitting at home watching TV. They also host other nights such as a movie night which takes place in their theatre room which is full of comfortable armchairs. The pub has a pool table, darts board and a small amount of outdoor seating. They serve food which is good quality and reasonably priced and the staff have always been friendly and helpful. All in all, a little gem right in the centre of Bristol.
We were greeted quickly and yes it’s a lovely setting. But from there all down hill. When we were finally asked about drinks we waited ages, while waiting all this time we were asked if we wanted to order. So we started to give our choices and when started on mains I wanted the lamb, but was told No beans or asparagus!! So they will swap for carrots and courgette!!!!!! What !!! With that insult we decided to leave and asked for the bill. Well a 1lt of sparkling water £4.67 !!! a small bowel of nuts similar cost. We went to San Carlo and was grated warmly and yes they were full but got us a table and what amazing food and service.
UPDATE 09/04/23: Hort's now reopen as Hotel / Bar. Had a Sunday roast and the quality was excellent. The service is what really stood out 10/10, fantastic! However, Horts has now lost some of its character and felt sterile , it's more like a hotel restaurant than the pub I knew before, and the most disappointing element of the refurb was the Cinema at the back of the pub is gone! Overall, will be good for a meal, but as a pub, it's lost its spirit and atmosphere it once had. Great pub with a good drinks selection. The cinema room at the back of the pub is great for sports and not forgetting the good Sunday roasts they do here!
We had a large group meal on a Saturday in the run up to Christmas. Our server ensured everything ran smoothly by being very attentive. She suggested we pay for drinks as we go which meant sorting the bill at the end was a breeze! Such a relief. It took a long time for the starters to be served but once the food started arriving it was appetising and the rest of the courses arrived promptly. For a bulk set menu at Christmas the food was surprisingly good. We had a great evening and would recommend Horts. Thank you to everyone involved that evening.

Our family Christmas Day dinner at Horts was excellent. The recent renovations of the interior are tasteful and well planed. The staff were accommodating, professional and organised despite our large booking (16 people) and a sizeable restaurant that was almost full. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with delightful seasonal reminders. We congratulate Horts staff for giving up Christmas Day with their families to serve us and we recognise the size of their sacrifice in doing so.

We booked a room at Horts for our anniversary, as we loved it for drinks previously before the refurbishment. The hotel and bar are now gorgeous. Clean and art deco in design with beautiful thoughtful touches. The staff are friendly and happy to help. Amazing drinks selection at the bar, the room was big, comfortable and quiet considering the city centre location. The breakfast in the morning was amazing quality and good value for the size! Would recommend and we will be staying again.

Recently stayed at this hotel in the heart of Bristol. Loved the recent refurbishment however we were woken up @ 6:00 in the morning by a very noisy laundry delivery at the rear and couldn’t get back to sleep again afterwards - hence my low rating for atmosphere. What about organising this for later in the day so it doesn’t ruin your guests sleep or using a front entrance where the sound of wheels on cobbles won’t cause such a din?

I really want to like this place. Been going on and off for 7 years but after the cinema was installed, it changed for the worse. It's well laid out and has a welcoming feel. Live sport, good food and a wide selection of drinks make it somewhere I'd want to visit regularly. Prices are higher than other pubs in the area, presumably to subsidise the cinema. Staff are generally friendly but the landlord is not. He's abrupt and even a little rude at times. It's a shame, because it would be a great venue otherwise.
Through double glazing and earplugs, the deliveries/bins being done for 2 hours in the early morning did not only make a horrific noise but also made the room shake. Neither myself or the nice couple we met at breakfast will be staying again. As I can see this was commented on a few months ago and was said to have been dealt with, this is EXTREMELY disappointing. A real shame as the place has so much potential.

I visited this place hoping for a roast, but they stopped serving it after 6 pm. Instead, I had the Catch of the day, which was decent and fresh but nothing extraordinary. On the bright side, the drink was good and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. It's a shame they couldn't fulfill my roast craving, though. I will make sure to come back in the afternoon next time.

Stayed at the newly refurbished Horts for a long weekend, although it has been beautifully done up, it’s couldn’t have been louder for sleeping. We had drunk people outside until 3am (which can be expected staying in a city), but Horts having their deliveries arrive over the cobbles in the courtyard below all the rooms was going on from 5:30 - 7am. Really disappointed. Please find a new way to receive your deliveries!
Super nice staff, lovely and curated interiors. They also have a movie club going on, and they advertised a special week with movies for children (since we went during school break), that is a lovely cheap alternative for parents, while also being very entertaining for kids. Due to the extra business of the day (balloon fiesta) we missed on the Sunday roast, but the normal menu is fantastic as well. Well done!
Sat outside on a nice summer evening and had food . I had fish n chips, can't remember what the wife had! Service was good and so was the food. Had been past several times and thought must go in there and try it out ,glad we did .

Well, Christmas lunch may not be the best first experience for judgement, but there won't be a second experience. Slow, slow service, at times hardly any service at all and food piled high, and only marginally edible. So why give any star at all, you may ask. Well Horts is an attractive venue and the bar staff (one of) was charming, that's the best I can say about this place. Give this a miss.
The roast was amazing, colourful dish, and everything was really tasty, the place is clean, tidy and in good condition, and tables are the right distance each other. Probably the knifes are not the sharpest that doesn’t help with cracklings. £19 for roast

Was recently at the Horts Townhouse for business. Food and service was good and rooms were lovely, but was very noisy in the night. Assume there were deliveries or something below the rooms but couldn’t tell. Still was extremely noisy from like 5:30am onwards. Not ideal when you’re presenting the next day. Overall a pleasant stay but not sure I would choose to come again for this reason.
What a beautiful refurbishment! Serving delicious food and staff absolutely lovely. Although I haven’t stayed in the rooms, they look stunning. Has all been done very thoughtfully. Just had a Sunday roast and it was spot on! The beef was delicious with and the atmosphere perfectly suited with good drinks and chilled, dog friendly vibes. Very highly recommended!
Chris the barman is exceptional. Makes cocktails with passion and great skill. Enjoys sharing his knowledge and takes the time to explain his methods, so take advantage of this wonderful cocktail theatre and experience and learn. A great place to be. I personally, loved the 'Old Fashioned'

Nice atmosphere but quite a lot of the food we ordered wasn't on the menu. It was more a case of what do you actually have on menu. Staff were really apologetic though but not what you would expect. Hopefully it was unusual because the place did come recommended so will probably give it one more try. The rest of the party were happy with the ale selection.
What a great night we had. Thanks to Coco our waitress who was fabulous and the manager who promised us a good table for the rugby and came up trumps. The best Guinness I had all weekend too. We’ll done all.

We went to Horts to watch England Croatia today. The service was absolutely incredible. Ordered on the app and the drinks were there no more than 2 minutes later. All socially distanced and everyone had a great view of the screen. Best service we’ve had so far in Bristol and reasonably priced. Thanks Horts Staff you smashed it xx
Really nice pub, my favourite in the city centre. Great for watching sport, nice drinks list and food is tasty! Decent Saturday breakfast too, though you need to have time...Prices are on the high-rise but, you get decent quality :) It's got pool and darts, which is great, but please guys, fix the dart board and the display!!! :(
After over a decade living in Bristol, this is one of the comfiest spots in the city. Friendly staff, calm lighting, wonderful chairs, cracking selection of drinks and tasty food, not to mention their cinema! All in a great location and step-free access from pavement to pint which is a rare thing. Love this place.

Really good Sunday roast. Turned up without booking and had no issues getting in. Service was fast and friendly and had the beef which was amazing with a couple of sides, everything was really good. Had a pint of Guinness with the meal which wasn’t very good tbh but overall would absolutely recommend.
Lovely cosy gastropub to relax in. That said, I felt the food was quite expensive. The fish and chips were just ok. Handcut chips would have been better and the haddock was a bit tasteless. The peas were not mushy peas but garden peas.

My favourite pub in Bristol for many years now. Good range of beers and ciders. Food good too. Friendly and accommodating staff. Yes, drinks are slightly more “expensive” (we are only talking 50p a pint here) , but they aren’t involved in a race to the bottom, and puts off riff raff.
Welcoming and attentive staff provided good service, very good food and drinks menu to go with the warm decor and lovely atmosphere. Best negroni I've had in a while, cheers to Alex, Chris and all the staff for making my evening so comfortable and enjoyable, will definitely be back.
